“In a statement, OCR said it has apologised to Abbey, adding that its initial conclusion was incorrect and ‘too harsh.'”
Good. But notice that this harshness and overzealousness only ever goes one way: toward Sharia. Britain is so paralyzed by fear of accusations of “racism” and “Islamophobia” that it is losing its culture, its traditions, its national character, its national integrity. On its epitaph as a free nation, write: “At least they didn’t think I was ‘Islamophobic.'”
“Vegetarian GCSE student 16, is disqualified for ‘obscene racial comments’ because she criticised halal meat in Religious Studies exam,” by Shari Miller, Mailonline, August 18, 2019:
A GCSE pupil was disqualified after examiners mistook her vegetarian views on Halal meat for Islamophobia.
Abigail Ward, 16, who attends Gildredge House school in Eastbourne, East Sussex, was told by exam board OCR that she had made ‘obscene racial comments’ while answering her Religious Studies exam in June.
On the subject of halal butchers, the student had written, ‘…which I find absolutely disgusting.’
In an appeal, her school explained that her comment was in relation to her vegetarian beliefs, not her opinions on Muslims.
Her mother, Layla Ward, said the examiner has been ‘over-zealous, over-righteous’.
Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, the 36-year-old said the family were shocked by the decision to disqualify her daughter, and the exam board has since been overturned the decision.
She said: ‘Abbey is an animal lover and a very strict vegetarian.
‘It made me angry … when asked a question in the exam, you can’t even express your feelings.
‘It’s great that it has been overturned, but it should never have happened.’
In a statement, OCR said it has apologised to Abbey, adding that its initial conclusion was incorrect and ‘too harsh’….

PeTA: Truth About Halal Meat
https://www.peta.org.uk/blog/the-truth-about-halal-meat/
Here’s the thing: no religion needs to slaughter animals for food. For anyone who’s concerned about animals raised and killed for food, there is only one label that really matters: “vegan”. Yes, people have a right to know what – or who – is in their food, but the simple solution to avoid mystery-meat scandals is to eat plant-based meals, which are kinder to animals and open to all faiths. And it’s so easy to eat with a clear conscience. At PizzaExpress, try ordering the new vegan Pianta pizza, or at Subway, try the Veggie Delite.
Don’t get us wrong, as long as animals are still killed for food, stopping the most inhumane slaughter methods – in which cows and other animals have their throats cut while they’re still conscious – would be a step in the right direction, but even in conventional abattoirs, millions of animals are improperly stunned in the UK every year and face the fatal incision awake, alert and terrified.
And let’s not forget that the actual slaughter, whether the animal is stunned and killed or just killed, is only part of the long and blatantly cruel process of modern meat production. At the “best” of times, meat is a product of a bloody and violent industry with no respect for other living beings who value their lives in the same way that we do and experience the same pain and terror that we would if we were killed for a sandwich or a pizza topping.
Chickens are mutilated by having the sensitive ends of their beaks cut off – without painkillers. Pigs are castrated – also without painkillers. Animals may be kept in darkened sheds for their entire lives and never see the sun or confined to cages so small that they can barely turn around. They have their beloved babies taken away from them when they are just days or even hours old. And on their journey to slaughter, they will be crammed into dirty lorries on a punishing journey that can last for days, often with inadequate food or water, before reaching their final destination – all of which directly contradicts the basic principles of compassion and reverence for life shared by most religions.
Rick says
Did you ever wonder what a animals demise would be like in pure nature???
e.g. an injured/older animal would probably die/be-weakened by starvation and then be torn to bits by voracious animals (while still alive) – there is NO compassion in nature!! This is probably worst and even more prolonged for diseased animals (or should we have a universal health plan for animals?
SUMMARY: Civilized mankind’s (un-halal) methods of animal slaughter and management are a significant improvement on their “natural” lives!!
Kepha says
Nailed it. IN any case, I’ve often wondered how many vegans own leather bags, shoes, belts, etc.
But, as a CCC (Christian conservative carnivore–although sometime vegetarian when I’m in the Far East), I’m amused to see the Muslims getting the vegans in trouble for being “racist”.
Quazgaa says
May I ask why is it you’re vegetarian only when in the Far East?
Apologies for the indiscretion, but this has aroused my curiosity.
Thank you kindly.

Uhhh… you do realize that domestic animals such as cows, pigs, chickens, etc. are being artificially bred by humans SPECIFICALLY for human consumption, right? In other words, those animals wouldn’t exist without us because thousands of years of being domesticated by humans has made them lose any survival mechanisms they had. So if we suddenly stopped eating them, they would simply become EXTINCT! I thought vegans are suppose to care for animals, not wishing for their extinction.
Also, have you ever thought about the consequences of having the entire human population become pure herbivores? That would mean increasing the amount of arable and agricultural land area by a factor of 100 (at the very least), which would obliterate every single forest and wildlife on the planet, causing absolute animal genocide on a global scale. That’s not very kind towards animals if you ask me.
And another thing. Just because they cannot scream and wriggle in agony does not mean that plants don’t feel pain. In case you forgot, they are living beings as well. So if you really care about leaving beings, it’s best that you don’t eat anything at all!
Face it, we are forced to kill and consume other living beings in order to survive, just like all other animals, and there is no way around that fact. The sooner you make peace with it the better.

Farming is where our veggies come from…Has anyone bothered to notice that much of our farm land is now covered with condos and businesses etc. The small farmer no longer exist in the numbers it once did who fed himself and some others. We now depend mostly on large conglomerate s for our veggies and meats as well….
When it becomes ‘s un-profitable for these and the few family (large farmers), that are still trying to keep their farms going, then where will we be???..Fighting our fellow man for food and then will the Muslim still want his halal meat???
gravenimage says
No, plants don’t feel pain. There would be no reason for them to, since they cannot move away from a threat.
gravenimage says
Actually, consuming vegetables consumes fewer resources and farmland than does raising animals for meat.
Leslie Fish says
Nature gives us humans the same rights as any other animal: the right to kill other animals for our survival — but no one and nothing gives us the right to torture. There are organizations, such as Humane Farm Animal Care, which campaign for merciful treatment for animals which are raised to be slaughtered — but the PETA pervs hate them, and the Muslim slaughterers ignore them.
I find it ironic that Vegans are facing off against fundamentalist Muslims; which “oppressed” group do the Leftists side with?
James Lincoln says
According to a recent Gallup poll, liberals are 2.5 times more likely to be vegan than conservatives.
And liberals tend to be more supportive of Islam than conservatives.
Therefore:
A typical liberal vegan must experience severe cognitive dissonance when broadsided with the brutal and inhumane facts concerning halal meat preparation…

Great commentary today by intelligent people who are aware of how the world and Mother Nature work
together!! England is completely lost to criticize a 16 year old student! I am glad to hear they apologized!
The unfettered invasion of Muslims into England with no acclimation, only their demands to conform to their
religion and barbaric customs, their no go zones, their crimes and rapes, etc etc is destroying England’s sovereignty! Same for France, Germany , Norway, Sweden, etc. PM Churchill is not resting easy today!
Maybe Boris Johnson will have a positive effect on protecting English society and their sovereignty!

If she had said that Kosher meat was disgusting, would there have been such actions? What about meat in general? Of course not. Islam is a protected species in today’s Britain, even if the victims of its cruelty are not.

Like the rest of the UK establishment, this exam board is almost certain to have muslims on its staff, especially where RE is concerned. So such an excessively inappropriate, arrogant and bigoted action might be expected. Someone over here in the UK noted that this matter has come to public attention before the exam results officially came out. If that’s true, why and how? Whatever the background is, this matter shows the extent to which islam has infiltrated and corrupted UK life.

Racist? Criticizing halal meat is ‘racist’. What is the ‘race’ of halal meat? Are Hindus ‘racist’ when they criticize halal meat?
Why are there so many non-reasoning nincompoops out there? People who leap to conclusions and virtue-signal their way up to a colossal FALLACY.
These virtue-signallers are only interested in showing other people their supposed virtue by repeating the latest prejudice or slander and hardly understanding a word of it.

Lydia Church,
You are correct…
A country’s leadership and cultural heritage makes all the difference; for example:
Poland wants to retain its culture of Judeo-Christian values and stands strong against Muslim migration. They do not care if they are erroneously labeled as racist/Islamophobic.
Sweden, on the other hand, would rather lose their country to Islam than having to simply defend a racist/Islamophobic label. And the UK is not that far behind.
Unbelievable.

Probably a large number of “teachers” marking these exam papers are Muslims who may be over sensitive in looking for alleged slights against Islam.
Perhaps their qualifications to mark exam papers should be more closely examined. If the school had not appealed this young lady would have failed her exam and her career prospects would have been damaged even though she had in no way mentioned Islam or any “race”.

This is thought control. The UK government is punishing people who don’t willingly accept their status as second class citizens out of subservience to their new Muslim overlords. It is significant that George Orwell was British – his warning is one the British government really needs to listen to.

Yes! we should be deeply concerned for animal ”welfare”.Therefore ALL inhumane methods of slaughtering animals for food including the brutal halal method should be investigated and stopped. However, how is it that so many animal ”rights” activists do not care a damn about pre born infants butchered in their mother’s wombs by the most inhumane methods possible and often for money? It is inconsistent and doesn’t make sense.
