This article says that Waugh had “extreme religious beliefs” and threatened to behead Christians, whom he called “polytheists,” but even though this makes it obvious that Waugh is a Muslim, the article never says that. As always, the establishment media considers its primary responsibility to be that no one think ill of Islam.
“Former Canberra journalist who allegedly threatened to behead Christians granted bail,” by Elliot Williams, Canberra Times, August 28, 2019:
A former Canberra journalist who allegedly made threats to behead Christians as a reprisal for the Christchurch massacre was granted bail on Wednesday.
James Michael Waugh, 28, was arrested in April after a tip off to the National Security Hotline alerted authorities to a number of online posts allegedly made by Mr Waugh.
In one post, Mr Waugh allegedly threatened to kill members of the Canberra House of Prayer and posted his own address inviting members to confront him.
“I’m going to kill every single one of you dog polytheist c—-,” a post he allegedly wrote read.
Mr Waugh has pleaded not guilty to possessing an object to be used to kill, threatening with the intent to cause public alarm and using a carriage service to menace or harass.
The court heard Mr Waugh had ordered a scimitar from Pakistan and had sharpened it before making threats to behead Christians in his front yard.
“I have issued threats, along with my name and address, to every coward dog church in Canberra. If you know someone with balls send them along. I’ve bought a scimitar and intend to cut their heads off in my front yard as reprisal,” he allegedly wrote in an online message to friends.
Mr Waugh had previously applied for bail twice and had the applications rejected by two magistrates for fear he would commit further offences.
His lawyer Helen Hayunga made the application on Wednesday stating there was new information before the court that needed to be considered.
She said his time in custody had allowed Mr Waugh’s mental health to be further assessed, as when he was arrested he was deemed to not have any mental health condition.
Ms Hayunga said he had since been diagnosed with a delusional disorder and appropriate accommodation had been found for Mr Waugh with two family friends in Curtin.
Prosecutor Vivian Wei strongly opposed the bail application saying Mr Waugh was “completely preoccupied by extreme religious views” and posed a danger to the community.
She said the most recent mental health report before the court pointed to Mr Waugh having a minimal response to his current treatment and that while he was under supervision in prison he posed a low risk to others.
However, she said the report stated that there was a likely increase in that risk if he was released into the community.
Ms Wei said Mr Waugh’s extreme religious beliefs had been “ongoing and fixated” for a period of two years and had caused the breakdown of a long-term relationship, him to become homeless and to lose his job as a journalist….

So why does this man blame Christians for the Christchurch mosque shooting? Did the Christchurch mosque shooter claim to be a Christian? Did that shooter point to anything in Christian scriptures which encourages killing non-Christians or anyone at all for that matter? On the other hand, based on this article we don’t really know what religion this James Michael Waugh follows either. We don’t know what scriptures influenced his thinking. We just know that he had some sort of delusional disorder. Did the religious material the man had been reading over the past two years have any bearing on shaping his delusions? It seems to me that would be something quite relevant to this whole story. Why is it not being reported upon?
CogitoErgoSum says
I decided to look up a copy of the Christchurch shooter’s manifesto. In it he poses questions to himself and provides some answers. One of the questions is this: Were/are you a Christian? The answer he gives is this: That is complicated. When I know, I will tell you.
So whether the Christchurch shooter was or is a Christian is unknown — even to himself. I found no references to the Christian scriptures or any quotes from the scriptures in his manifesto but he did direct some of his remarks directly to Christians. I won’t post a link to the manifesto but with a little effort you should be able to find it for yourself. My own belief is that the Christchurch shooter was not a Christian nor was he acting in accordance with the teachings of Christ.
Trick_or_Treat says
Myself and many others would agree that your belief is correct, and only academic. The Christchurch shooter is not a Christian. Christians do NOT go not individually take it upon themlves to go out of their way on a personal vendetta to kill (murder) anyone, that is quite clearly heretical to our Lord’s teaching. Some of us hold that they would rather be killed than to kill (such is their personal faith and view on killing). Other’s of us, however, will kill if somebody rises up to kill us, especially if they go out of their way to come to kill me or my family or friends. We see it as a case of ‘kill or be killed’ self defence in God’s eyes and judgement, more than a case arbitrary, unprovoked, or gratuitous murder – and we will let God be the ultimate judge, although while all the time praying to God to ultimately keep us from having to face such a situation where the one and only logical choice (other than choosing to be killed) is to kill or be killed.

Certainly, it seems unlikely that he identified as Christian–certainly, as you note, he was not acting in accordance with the teachings of Christianity. I doubt this would-be Jihadist cares

The Article say’s he converted to Islam. So I’d say the Koran influenced his Extremism. Western Converts are often easily Radicalized as Islam appeals to the Base Nature of Do What Thou Wilt. Islam preaches Muslim Supremacy and it’s appealing to those who have Very low self esteem.I a way the feel they’ve joined a Gang/Tribe and their Tribe is superior to everyone else. In reality they have just sworn allegiance to Evil.
Michael Copeland says
The Canberra Times article linked has no mention of Islam.

This is what it says – “Prosecutor Vivian Wei strongly opposed the bail application saying Mr Waugh was “completely preoccupied by extreme religious views” and posed a danger to the community.” What religious views would they be? Wanting to cut heads off? Use your brain – it really doesn’t take much to read between the lines.

Out on bail with a scimitar by his side. Great news for all of the Christians in the area.

Ramadan 2020 will begin in the evening of Thursday, 23 April and ends in the evening of Saturday, 23 May.
Other arrangements also being figured by the media, publicity, etc. like what will be shown or told.

He’s 28. His life in the West is effectively over. With his record of threats, who would ever hire him? Perhaps he can join the Islamic State. It has branches in Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Libya. Or sign up with Al Shabaab in Somalia, or Abu Sayyaf in the Moro Islands of the Philippines. Not attractive choices. But what else at this point can he do?

His future employers in Australia may never be told.
Paul J says
The Labor Party or the greens will give him a job. The fact he got bail shows there are plenty of sympathizers in Australia. Repeat home invaders from a certain continent and/or religion are constantly getting bail. Especially in Victoria; a socialist Labor run state.
carpediadem says
Correct, and he’ll probably get a job at the SMH or The Age, which sympathise with jihad and are proHamas, so he’s taken care of.

It is that same old question you keep asking, Robert, about all these loathsome creatures who become Muslims and then “misunderstand” the fact that Islam is “peaceful” and all that crap. Islam is so fundamentally violent and so much of a danger to all of us infidels, all of us nasty non-believers, that it should be banned. My solution is to keep Muslims out of all non-Muslim countries in the way that the Visegrad countries do. It won’t avoid disgusting people like the guy in this report, who already lives in Australia and goes off and joins Islam, no doubt because he is a hate-filled psycho who dreams of murdering people,(so Islam fits his mentality perfectly) but, keeping Islam out of countries will lessen all the trouble it inevitably brings. Maybe this particular guy is insane because he seems to have been so open about what he was intending to do, but joining islam is obviously a perfect fit for people with his type of fantasies of violence.

tim gallagher,
You are certainly correct about the Central European Visegrad group: Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, and Slovakia. They have effectively kept Muslims out of their countries.
The Western European countries should have done the same thing, for many of them it is now too late…
carpediadem says
The Western European countries deliberately allied with Islamic countries years ago for money and cheap oil, knowing the history of Islam but not caring.
gravenimage says
Actually, most Westerners are ignorant about Islam, and know little of its history.
Paul J says
Joining islam is a good get out of jail free card too.
tim gallagher says
Thanks for your comments, gravenimage, James and Paul J. I become more and more convinced that the Visegrad countries have the only approach that works when it comes to Islam. Letting Muslims into any non-Muslim country is inviting endless trouble. I doubt whether many countries will wake up and become as sensible in their way of dealing with Islam as the Visegrad countries. On this report on this revolting man in Australia I was mainly struck by how it is just one more of the endless cases which Robert Spencer is always drawing our attention to. As Robert often points out, what, not another person who has joined Islam but seems not to understand how peaceful Islam really is. It just keeps happening over and over again. How strange it is!! Gee, I can’t imagine why this keeps on happening.

What I see here is the transformation of a human being into a killer and a blood-thirsty bandit.
The pattern creates a dysfunctional sense of empowerment and gives the mentally unstable individual all the excuses for the abominable acts of a sociopath.

Not to mention that Christians are not polytheists, but monotheists. We believe in the Trinity. It is not three ‘gods,’ but 3 persons in one God. It is hidden in the old testament as well, so all of Biblical Judeo Christianity included.
islam is not monotheistic because it does not believe in the one true God at all.
It is polytheistic in that it believes in the pagan moon god and all his demons… isis, etc.
(Isis is also a pagan god, by the way.)

“Prosecutor Vivian Wei strongly opposed the bail application saying Mr Waugh was “completely preoccupied by extreme religious views” and posed a danger to the community.
The link being made between “extreme” religious views and danger seems to indicate that the word “extreme” is a cover word for violent.
Mr. Spencer has rightly inveighed against the silly word “extremism” – can you have an “extremist” piano-player? Is an “extreme” Christian a danger to the community? Or an “extreme” Zoroastrian?
Before long it will become too obvious that “extreme religious views” and “terror” are mask words for Islam, and journalists and prosecutors will have to come up with another euphemism.
Trick_or_Treat says
Hmmmn, …Well, I sort of regard these so- called ‘rap/hip hop’ artists [lol] , with their very surly and malcontent sounding product, as being ‘extreme’.?
No Muzzies Here says
When someone converts to a new religion, he strives to practice it fully. He studies its laws and beliefs, and carries them out with religious fervor.
Conversion to some religions has the new convert shouting “I’m saved” hundreds of times a day, to the annoyance of those around him. He never thinks of hurting anyone who doesn’t believe as he does.
The new convert to Judaism takes great care to prepare foods in a Kosher way, but never attacks non-believers.
But there is one religion that inspires violence. One religion, and one alone, that orders members to kill non-members, with the lie that its deity will be pleased. That religion is dangerous to humanity.
