Offensive comments in and of themselves are not a reason to justify punitive measures against someone. One needs to evaluate what is being said, whether it is true or false, what the motive is for the offensive comments, and the outcome of the comments.
Take for example, the valid criticism of jihad violence and Sharia oppression, and the harm they inflict upon societies. Islamic supremacists are unjustifiably offended by criticisms of normative Islam and falsely accuse critics of “Islamophobia.”
In Canada, a Muslim has been accused of offensive speech against the Jewish community and against Zionists. His name is Hassan Guillet, “an Islamic religious leader who gained international attention for speaking out in the aftermath of the Quebec City mosque attack of 2017.” He was, until his statements came to light, “the Liberal Party nominee for the riding of Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel in Montreal.” Guillet did much more than offend the Jewish community’s sensibilities. He reportedly celebrated the release of Raed Salah — a Hamas jihad terrorist — from jail, and declared that Allah would support this murderer of Jews. Guillet also openly advocated for the Palestinian jihad against the Jewish state of Israel, and prayed for its success.
In January of 2017, Guillet celebrated the release of Raed Salah, a Hamas-aligned activist who has accused Jews of staging the 9/11 terror attacks and has claimed that Jews use children’s blood for baking “holy bread.” The candidate went on to hail Salah as a “jihad-fighter” and “frontier-fighter” whom “Allah will surely support.” Guillet offered his congratulations to Salah on being freed from “the prisons of occupied Palestine,” and prayed that he will some day be successful in the fight to liberate “the whole of Palestine.” Salah had been serving a nine-month prison term in Israel for “incitement to violence and racism.”
Guillet also spewed other outlandish, hateful and harmful propaganda against Jews. But it was his approval of Raed Salah’s “incitement to violence and racism” (for which Salah was jailed), as well as Guillet’s own incitement to violence and murder, that was most disturbing and worthy of investigation. Yet even though Guillet had gained notoriety for his statements going back to 2017, he wasn’t scrutinized under Canada’s hate laws. It is noteworthy that the Liberal government of Canada is so determined to crack down on “Islamophobia” and monitor citizens for compliance, yet had no interest in cracking down on Guillet for his antisemitism.
So Hassan Guillet decided that he wanted to pursue the job of “serving” all Canadians (which includes Jews) in Canadian Parliament. It’s difficult to imagine how he could fulfill such a role for all his potential constituents, given his hateful sentiments about Jews and the Jewish Democratic nation of Israel. Yet he was allowed by the Liberal Party to run as a candidate in the upcoming federal election on October 21.
But all didn’t go quite as planned. When the Jewish advocacy group B’nai Brith released the information about Guillet to the public, it caused outrage in the Jewish community and beyond. The leader of the opposition, Conservative leader Andrew Scheer, also tweeted:
The anti-Semitic comments by one of Justin Trudeau’s hand-picked candidates are absolutely repugnant. He needs to fire this candidate right now and explain to Canadians why he appointed someone which such racist and hateful views.
Guillet then found himself dropped like a hot potato by the Liberal Party of Canada, which issued a statement:
Justin Trudeau and the Liberal party have firmly stood against statements of anti-Semitism, hate, racism, Islamophobia, homophobia, sexism, and all forms of discrimination. The Liberal Party strongly condemns all forms of discrimination, and the same is always expected of our candidates.
But why was Guillet allowed to run in the first place? Why was he only dropped when his statements came to public light? B’nai Brith alerted the Liberals about the comments weeks before the organization released the information to the public, and only in the face of bad publicity was Guillet turfed by the party.
In a followup, Guillet rebutted “soon the truth will be known by all….we have an appointment with history.” He also “told CTV that he questioned the timing of the decision coming on the eve of a long weekend.” The nerve of this man to reprimand CTV in light of his contemptible comments being exposed.
“B’nai Brith Seeks Disqualification of Liberal Candidate with History of Antisemitic Comments,” B’nai Brith Canada, August 30, 2019:
MONTREAL – B’nai Brith Canada has uncovered a pattern of disturbing antisemitic and anti-Israel statements made by a Liberal Party candidate running in the coming federal election on Oct. 21.
Hassan Guillet, an Islamic religious leader who gained international attention for speaking out in the aftermath of the Quebec City mosque attack of 2017, is currently the Liberal Party nominee for the riding of Saint-Léonard—Saint-Michel in Montreal.
B’nai Brith is shocked by a number of his statements over the past few years and believes they must preclude his candidacy.
In January of 2017, Guillet celebrated the release of Raed Salah, a Hamas-aligned activist who has accused Jews of staging the 9/11 terror attacks and has claimed that Jews use children’s blood for baking “holy bread.” The candidate went on to hail Salah as a “jihad-fighter” and “frontier-fighter” whom “Allah will surely support.”
Guillet offered his congratulations to Salah on being freed from “the prisons of occupied Palestine,” and prayed that he will some day be successful in the fight to liberate “the whole of Palestine.” Salah had been serving a nine-month prison term in Israel for “incitement to violence and racism.”
These posts no longer appear on Guillet’s social media.
In a late 2017 interview with Radio Canada International, Guillet called Israel an apartheid state. Guillet also accused Jared Kushner, the Jewish son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, of directing his government to support an “Israel first” agenda. He accused Kushner of dual loyalty because of his Jewish background and inaccurately described him as an “ultra-Orthodox” and “fundamentalist” Jew.
Guillet has also stated on Facebook that “the Zionists control American politics,” promoting the common antisemitic trope of Jews manipulating world governments.
“Montreal Liberal candidate turfed following anti-Semitism allegations,” by Kerri Breen, Global News, August 30, 2019:
The Liberals have removed Hassan Guillet as the candidate for a Montreal riding after some of his past remarks were called anti-Semitic by a Jewish human rights group.
The Liberal party said the decision to revoke Guillet’s candidacy came after a review that was ongoing for a few weeks.
“The insensitive comments made by Hassan Guillet are not aligned with the values of the Liberal Party of Canada,” the party said in a statement on Friday.
“Justin Trudeau and the Liberal party have firmly stood against statements of anti-Semitism, hate, racism, Islamophobia, homophobia, sexism, and all forms of discrimination. The Liberal Party strongly condemns all forms of discrimination, and the same is always expected of our candidates.”
Guillet, who was running in Saint-Leonard-Saint-Michel, is a former imam who spoke at the funeral for several of the victims of the Quebec City mosque attack in 2017….

The liberals got caught. They dropped this one, but have no fear. They still love the Muslims and will continue to give them an excess of love and forgiveness.

Credit to B’nai Brith.
Gradually the public will realise there is a link between Islam and anti-semitism.

Canadian Jews who vote Liberal are voting for an increase in anti-Semitism. This mullah is the tip of the Liberal anti-Semitic iceberg.

And the current polls say the liberals will be re-elected, with either a minority or a very slim majority. Oct 21, 2019 will be a very interesting day.

This guy reminds me of Minnesota’s sweetheart I. Omar. She says offensive things about Israel and Jews and various accusations of dual loyalty and buying influence on Congress. I wonder if the Democrat party of Minnesota or Minneapolis will consider bouncing her from the Democrat ballot next year? Can or would they do that? Hard to say. Perhaps she could run as an independent and still be elected by her supporters, who share a great deal in common with her.
Patti Pickerd says
You really think they would? she’s getting away with breaking US immigration laws & spouting numerous antisemitic remarks daily! Blame the damn blasted demonc?s who along with the 4 (if not more) evil biotches are hell bent on destroying America!
It seems like no one can say boo to the squad as they labeled themselves. I’ll squad ’em alright, right down to the electric chair & zap the begeebers outta them. Someone has got to stop these miserable spawns of satan, before they finish their diabolical plans to destroy the world & dominate it, by then the way we know our worldly life will be gone ?

NEVER VOTE FOR A MUSLIM. Remember Abul Ala Maududi said “ Non-Muslims have absolutely no right to seize the reins of power IN ANY PART OF GOD’S EARTH nor to direct the collective affairs of human beings according to their own misconceived doctrines. IF they do, the believers would be UNDER AN OBLIGATION TO DO THEIR UTMOST to dislodge them from political power and to MAKE THEM LIVE IN SUBSERVIENCE TO THE ISLAMIC WAY OF LIFE”.
Shari-ah law supersedes all the laws of any land.
NEVER VOTE FOR A MUSLIM

I fully agree with you. Such good advice, maybe you should post the remark far & near, & maybe, just maybe people will for once listen & wake up to the truth for once & for all & start to hurry the day when the evil radicals will be no more ?????
We need much stronger government people who are willing to listen to the people & get the mess sorted out. I for one do not support any radicals & firmly believe in separation of powers, keeping church & government, apart. No more evil radicals like omar & crew! Lets get ’em outta politics & keep ’em out!!!
Aussie Infidel says
Patti P, I don’t know what the situation is like in Canada with your politicians, but probably much the same as here in Australia. I’m also a firm believer in keeping religion out of government (secularism).
Many politicians are very religious, and will not speak ill of another religion; even though Islam is about 60% political – and most of that is advocating violence against the kuffar. They regard Islam as just another religion like Judaism and Christianity, and won’t take any action.
I’ve spoken to dozens of politicians over many years, and they won’t discriminate against another religion. They even argue that “We all worship the one God”; which is plainly ridiculous.
I’m an atheist, and don’t worship any God – although I believe in freedom of religion. But I regard this privileged position of religion as a major impediment to progress. Very few are prepared to call a spade a spade, or ban Islam as a national security risk.
A few years ago, a new political party was formed, which would have tackled the problem. They also ran good candidates, but still didn’t get anyone elected. We can only keep trying to prick the public conscience.
James Lincoln says
E.T.,
United States citizens now know what it’s like to have Muslims in Congress.
There is no excuse to vote them, or any other Muslims into office again.
I agree: Never vote for a Muslim. Nothing but trouble, and they believe that Islam – with its sharia law -overrides the U.S. Constitution.
After all, they take their oath of office on the Koran…

Are leftists (they are not liberals) discriminating against cultural norms? They cant do that, diversity and inclusion demand that these cultural norms are accepted, and yes, celebrated. The devout are not the only ones suffering from psychotic breaks.

older Canadian, Do you really believe the poll? Was it on CBC or CTV? You know CBC and CTV use Snopes (Soros owned) as the fact checker. Remember They told us Trump and Ford would lose. I NEVER watch either of the propaganda stations. Nick Nanos is a Liberal pollster CTV loves to follow. They feed the Canadian people a lot of HORSE PUCKY. I do believe the Liberal Party May end up with no party status and well they should. They are Liberal LIars.
Older Canadian says
E T: No I seldom read or watch CBC or CTV. Prefer Global News polls and Agnus Reid. Remember Trudeau is allowing over 2 million Canadians that do not live in Canada to vote for the first time ever. These votes can be allocated to whatever riding the voter chooses. This in itself leaves a huge margin of error or what-ever in weak ridings.
The Maritimes and Quebec are still very pro liberal. Taking into account the mess Ford has made by intent or not in Ontario since he has been elected he is not the least bit popular and could lose a lot of the voters that switched from liberal to conservative in the no more Wynne election last year.
Plus the average Mr and Mrs Canadian has not a clue what has been going on. Give it try sometime….ask a clerk in a store that you frequent or the receptionist at your dentist and etc. Ask them what they think about SNC or Vice Admiral Norman scandals and they will not know what you are talking about. But they are terrified about climate change and believe they will be refunded their costs paid in carbon taxes, plus the old song that the rich and small business owners to not pay their fair share of tax is still playing loud and clear.
Trudeau to be a one-term PM…..the odds are against it. Although the thought of having him for another four years is terrifying, I think he will win again as the conservatives have been doing next to nothing in promoting themselves. Perhaps they are waiting until the election is called and will come out aggressively but then again that is not their style.
