Clare M. Lopez would be a fine replacement for John Bolton. She understands international security and she understands policy.
Terry Gain says
Why would she serve under a know-not- nearly -enough President who is narcissistic enough to think he can make a deal with anyone and who is stupid enough to invite the Taliban to Camp David?
mortimer says
OK, TG, you can invade Iran in the first wave and lead the troops. The rest of us will go to the bomb shelter and hope for the best.
The issue will be discussed at the UN General Assembly taking place in a little over a week .

Actually, trying to make a deal with the *Taliban* really is naive. Trump is not the first one to be so naive, but that doesn’t make this any wiser.
Demsci says
I respect your critical question (although you don’t respect the president much). My response would be that Pres. Trump at least understands to “carry a big stick” (President Roosevelt), “negotiating from strength”. Agressive or at least hostile enemies are now deprived of income, and the pres. Gives them no succor for nothing from them.
I don’’t like the alternatives to his policies. Appeasement; but the enemies will use any windfall against us. And neither precipitive wars
What seems to be the problem is that dictatorial regimes have no problems, because of no accountability, with ever bigger hardships for their citizens. While democracies depend on voters and perhaps also count on the same conscience among dictators as they (must) have.
mortimer says
Iran moved to attack Saudi Arabia within days of the dismissal of John Bolton. I think they assumed they would not suffer any military attack. The Iranians are seeing Trump as weak. They are seeing how far they can go. It’s possible that John Bolton’s more military approach may have been right. Stronger measures (international cooperation) must bring Iran to its knees, since the Iranian leaders are threatening to start a world war.
Terry Gain says
There is no proof that Bolton was advocating military force against Iran, but he certainly would have been against making a deal with the Taliban and was likely against a total withdrawal from Afghanistan – which will lead to the wholesale slaughter of those who assisted America in that god-forsaken country.
mortimer says
99% of Afghans want strict Sharia … the most moronic country on earth.

Afghanistan is one of the most Islamic countries on earth.

I like Mortimers point. I am sick and tired of the US helping staunch Muslims against staunch Muslims.

Sorry. I’m commenting without listening to the whole tape because it’s so egregious.
First, you’re wrong. The purge was initiated in October, 2011 under the Obama administration. It’s described in detail in the book you cited, Coughlin’s “Catastrophic Failure”.
Again, Hilary didn’t promise to criminalize criticizing Islam in the US. The incident, again, is described in detail in Coughln’s book: Hilary sipecifically mentioned the pesky 1st amendment, and said because of the 1st amendment, in the US, they would have to resort to “shaming” critics of Islam. I guess “shaming” now means doxing, harassing, threatening, and de-platforming.
There seems precious little about Bolton himself in the video. Bolton was a war-engorged neo-con who didn’t see a war or conflict he didn’t want to get into. He supported the invasion of Iraq in 2003, although it turned out by taking out the Hussein government, it destroyed the natural enemy of Iran in the region. Great strategic thinking. Bolton wanted to ramp up the Afghanistan war, thinking … well, I don’t know what he was thinking. We don’t even have to be creative in the planning: just ask the Russians for their notebooks on war planning in Afghanistan. The Russians didn’t fight with kid gloves. They lost many troops and massive amounts of money, as will we.
I do think the President should hear all points of view, even Bolton’s. The problem is/was, Bolton was in an implementation, as well has advisory, position and was capable of sabotaging the President’s wishes. His influence should have been limited to being transported to and from the White House in a hermetically sealed capsule (joke), where he would be free to argue his point of view.

I don’t think that Bolton’s considering trying to negotiate with the Taliban a mistake was wrong.

Yes.

If you follow Trump closely, you will see that he is not naive. His goal is the Deep State. He knows who is really behind 9/12 and behind the drug and human trafficking in Afghanistan that is keeping the Taliban alive. I’m sure he is aware of the fact that “President” Barry served in Pakistan, setting up the Taliban. This all goes much deeper than mere religious fervor.
I hope I’m right on this, but so far, Trump has not disappointed.
Strike the snake at the head.
gravenimage says
“9/12”–do you mean 9/11?
The idea that Jihad is not about religious fervor in Islam is mistaken. The “deep state” may be a problem, but it did not create the Taliban specifically or Jihad terrorism in general, as you appear to believe.
I am *no* fan of Obama, but the idea that he spent three weeks in Pakistan in 1981 when he was a college student and he set up the Taliban and kept it running for almost forty years against the will of Muslims in Pakistan and Afghanistan is just bizarre.
Jeremiah says
Speculation. I am confident that our president is on top of it.
Karen Dowden says
I do not think Trump should negotiate with the Taliban. You cannot negotiate with a terrorist. They will lie straight to your face and they have no respect for signing a treaty. That is just a front.
Get the troops out and leave them to sort out their mess. Crazy.
Mohammed said “War is deceit”.
This administration must get proper teaching on Islamic ideology!!!!!
kenolson90631 says
Taliban may have offered to come to the table on a 9/11 anniversary. The President may have disregarded the symbolism. I believe he is on top of the Islamic threat and I pray there are real exposures of the nature of Islam. Claire Lopez is a Rock Star.
gravenimage says
The Taliban has been “negotiating” with foolish people for some time now–this was first suggested by Karzai back in 2007. The US has been involved since at least 2010. They do *not* have a good track record.
James says
Tucker Carlson thinks that John Bolton is a war monger who never listens to criticism and his departure makes peace more likely. He says Bolton supported unwise regime changing wars that were useless. He thinks it is better that he is gone now.

I used to live on Cedar Ave in Minneapolis, down the street from “Little Mogadischu”. The high rise buildings were built then as a model city for residents of the area near the West Bank campus of the U of Minnesota. At the time it was a place for students and low-income people, local people. It was not intended to be a Muslim ghetto, so close to the university where normal academics, scholars and students work and study. It was a nice place with cafes, coffee houses, bars and older housing. Not far away is another school, Augsburg College and a big hospital complex, Fairview Hospital. Also alternative food coops. It was an American area. Leo Kottke got his start performing on Cedar Ave. at the Scholar Coffee House. It was a nice place then, now I would not go there in the night-time. Whoever brought all these new Americans there did not do the city a service. You see women and girls in Muslim headscarves and robes, as though they were not in America. Sometimes there are incidents, which the local papers under report. Like harassment of women by men belonging to the dominant religion. Or there was a killing of a woman by a policeman recruited for the purpose of diversity when she called 911. Somehow this not working out in the way the left thinks it would be if they just brought in masses of unassimilatable people and dumped them on a normal city.
