My latest in PJ Media:
Were they drunk? Last week it was discovered that the U.S. website of rum brand Captain Morgan was asking visitors to check a box confirming that they were “non-Muslim.” After the box became a focus of controversy, it was quickly removed, but questions remain. The UK’s Metro newspaper says that the box “provoked intense theological debate online, with some calling it an example of ‘back door Sharia’ and others branding it ‘corporate racism.’” Neither Islam nor rum is a race, but back door Sharia? That it certainly is.
The Sharia aspect is clear. The Islamic prohibition on drinking alcohol is based on this Qur’anic passage: “O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, stone altars and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful” (5:90).
This is not a call for self-control. Like all of Islamic law, it is to be enforced by the Islamic state, with harsh punishments for those who get out of line (or stumble out of it). If the government is not based on Islamic law, it is up to individual Muslims to be executors of the wrath of Allah, as the Qur’an commands: “Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands and will disgrace them and give you victory over them and satisfy the breasts of a believing people, and remove the fury in the believers’ hearts” (9:14-15).
Thus we saw last week the Sharia authorities in Nigeria’s Kano State destroying 196,400 bottles of beer. Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje explained why: “In Islam, alcohol is strongly forbidden. Our Islamic Scholars, religious and community leaders should join hands together in the crusade [sic!] against such social vices.” Ganduje, like the temperance crusaders of old in the United States, apparently believes that people can’t be trusted to do the right thing of their own accord, and so the cause of temptation simply must be taken away from them.
We also saw last week what happens if the cause of temptation is not taken away. Jihadis entered the village of Mbau in Mozambique and came upon a group of young people who were drinking alcohol; they murdered ten of them. The perpetrators didn’t notice the incongruity of committing a major evil in order to stop the commission of a minor vice; they believed that Allah was going to punish these miscreants by their hands, as the Qur’an says.
So what about Captain Morgan? The key question in this odd incident is why the company decided in the first place to require visitors to declare that they were not Muslim. In the first place, this was certainly an application of Sharia, because it is not illegal for Muslims to drink alcohol in the United States; it is only illegal under Sharia.
There is much more. Read the rest here.

Indeed.
Diane Harvey says
And what’s it to Captain Morgan? Even by the rule of their own religionist cult Muslims aren’t prohibited from buying alcohol, only consuming it.
mortimer says
And Captain Morgan is 100% certain about how many Muslims drink their problems from their highly accurate market surveys. They will lose Muslim customers if they upset or frighten them.
Don’t want to lower sales from Muslims, do we?
David says
A lot of muslims who work in shops refuse to sell alcohol.

Here in Oakland most of the corner liquor stores are owned by Muslims from Yemen.

Lots of Muslims drink alcohol.
Trick_or_Treat says
And I bet a lot of them secretly just love bacon and eggs on an avocado and toast bed?? and juicy steaming plate of crackle roasted pork ! ??? ?
Two of this f**ked up world’s delights (gastronomically), so of course they would be bloody haram.
mortimer says
Yes, lots drink secretly or openly. Even their prophet drank too. They know that.
MOHAMMED DRANK WINE
“Narrated by Gaber bin Abdullah:
We were with the messenger of Allah, PBUH and he asked for a drink. One of his men said: “Oh Messenger of Allah, Can we offer you wine to drink?” He said Yes. He (Gaber) went out looking for the drink and came back with a cup of wine. The messenger (Peace Be Upon him) asked, “Have you covered it with a twig in a transverse manner” He (Gaber) said, “Yes” and he (Muhammad) drank.
Sahih Muslim – Hadith #3753
Narrated by Abdullah bin Masoud (May God be pleased with him):
He was with the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him on the night of the jinn when he asked him if he had water. He answered that he had wine in a pot. Mohammed said: Pour me some to do ablution and he did. [The] Prophet peace be upon him [said]: “O Abdullah bin Masood it is a drink and a purifier.”
Musnad Ahmad – Hadith #3594
Ibn ‘Abbas reported that Nabidh (date wine) was prepared for Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) in the waterskin, Shu’ba said: It was the night of Monday. He drank it on Monday and on Tuesday up to the afternoon, and If anything was left out of it he gave it to his servant or poured it out.
Sahih Muslim 23:4972

I’ll Drink to That: Captain Morgan Website Asks Visitors to Affirm They’re Non-Muslim
……………………..
This title is hilarious, and this whole story is funny–but, as Robert Spencer notes, there are darker elements here.
Why the hell should Captain Morgan (owner Diageo)–or any Infidels–be enforcing Shari’ah? Why should we care if Muslims drink or not–or, in this case, just want to visit the Captain Morgan website?
Then, darker yet, there is how Muslim act when they have gained power–seizing alcohol, flogging those who drink, or even murdering them. And it is not just Muslims who are subject to these draconian actions. Remember this horrifying story from a few years ago?
“Iraq: Muslims murder Christian owner of liquor store”
https://www.jihadwatch.org/2016/10/iraq-muslims-murder-christian-owner-of-liquor-store
There are many more like it.
Trick_or_Treat says
“Why the hell should we care if muslims are drinking or nor -…”
Right, precisely, GI! I don’t care if muslims (or anyone else for that matter) are drinking, or want to indulge in ‘knocking back a couple of coldies’, …only just as long as they don’t get too carried away (unfortunately like a few do in our society) and drink way too much, and then start carrying on like a mob of rock-apes and then start imposing and impacting on my or my family’s immediate peace and security – and in which case it does start to become my care and concern, and that of the police.
What I (and others) DO care about, is when muslims might start ‘caring’ about, and imposing on us, what we might be ‘allowed’ to choose to drink or eat at any time. THAT is something we care about.
As it already is these days in my life (well, like many others, I was a little bit more ‘intemperate’ in my much younger days), I don’t drink that much alcohol at all [although when I do honestly confess to the doctor that I SOMETIMES have more than a six pack in one day, they hold the inverted crucifix at me] almost never spirits now (but will on rare occasions have rum or a Drambuie), sometimes a glass of wine with an evening meal. But mostly, just like my few cold beers, but never overdo it – I absolutely hate drunkenness, and I detest the ‘culture of excess’ that seems to be promoted and ushed in commercial alcohol sales. Brewing my own naturally conditioned lagers and ales has also been a hobby of mine from way back in 1972 when the practice was still illegal here in Australa [although I don’t smoke, growing your own tobacco and distilling your own spirits is STILL illegal here – yeah, Customs and Excise and the Australian Taxation Office have a bit of a thing against it ?]
BUT, when (if) it does reach the point where we’ve got little dictator muslim scum marching around smashing down people’s doors, and pouring out our beer, and flogging (even murdering) us for enjoying bacon & egg on toast for breakfast, then (as I’ve already said here elsewhere), there is a bloody good last resort remedy for that – and I’ve had some pretty good former training in administering it.
gravenimage says
Spot on, Trick_or_Treat.
I don’t drink much myself–but I don’t mind if others do. Unless they are harming others, I have no interest in or desire to enforce behavior..
Not so with Muslims, though.
mortimer says
Yes, GI. Excellent points about the darker implications of creeping Sharia.

It would be interesting to know who actually modified the website.
Was it a decision from management?
Or…
A rogue techie playing a prank to see what would happen?

Good questions. So is RS’s question in the full article on PJ Media:
“Could someone have contacted the Diageo company, which owns the Captain Morgan brand, and warned them of consequences like those we saw last week in Mozambique if they dared to continue to make alcohol available to Muslims, and didn’t take any steps to make sure it wasn’t sold to them?”
And who pressured them to take it off ?
mortimer says
JL’s question: Was it a decision from management?
Perhaps a Saudi Prince who owns shares asked for the ‘challenge’ on the website of his favorite beverage just to show a small concession to Sharia to salve his conscience for owning shares.

We certainly need to “erase” Islam in the Western world — then contain it within the Muslim world, as if it were the plague.

Lots of “ordinary” Muslims enforce Islam, as well.

It’s a legal disclaimer. Another example is the over 18 tickabox declaration on websites. No need to go nuts afterall. Captain Morgan is only covering his back.
Savvy Kafir says
If so, it’s a legal disclaimer by gutless cowards unwilling to stand up to Muslim bullies. Captain Morgan will never get a cent from me.

This post is rather off-topic, but it’s current.
It seems that the World Athletics Championships in Qatar this week are turning out to be a disaster. Excessive heat impacting the athletes’ performance, a near-empty stadium and squabbling in the sport’s governing bodies all add up to a PR nightmare for the Qataris.
One thing I note in the article below is that the Qataris are giving free tickets to events to their Indian and African ‘guest workers’. It must be the first time that these benighted, indentured serfs have ever received any breaks from their Muslim overlords.
And is it being done as an act of kindness, a recognition of how much the country’s progress depends on workers like these? Not likely. Actually, they are just being used as ‘stadium fodder’, to fill up some of the seats in the nearly empty stadium so the TV cameras can point to at least a few people beng there.
The athletics governing body should be ashamed of itself for taking the Qataris’ money. As a result of their greed, the World Championships has become a laughing-stock.

Thanks, Lotus. And FIFA is, insanely, holding the World Cup there in 2022. The stadium is being built with near slave labor.
Lotus says
Yes, it does not bode well for the World Cup. The Qataris have won the right to host such big sporting events because they throw vast amounts of money around.
Many of these financial commitments have been public ones. But given the amount of corruption in sports governing bodies (the Olympics, FIFA, Athletics, Formula 1, etc.), I wonder how many backroom sweeteners there have been. I suspect a lot.
There have been quite a few scandals over the years involving officials taking bribes to vote for a host country or city. I doubt that the Qataris have held back from these tactics, because apart from financial bribes there’s nothing to recommend their sandpit.
Lotus says
Well, here’s a surprise. Workers in Qatar dying from heat stress while building the facilities for the World Cup.

Maybe it wasn’t ‘enforcing Sharia’ … maybe it was “O ye who believe! Trying to sneak a drink? Tsk tsk. Remember, life is more fun when you’re not a Muslim.”

The irony is that in “Allah’s Allotment” there are fountains and rivers flowing with wine.
Koran 47:15
Sahih International: Is the description of Paradise, which the righteous are promised, wherein are rivers of water unaltered, rivers of milk the taste of which never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of purified honey, in which they will have from all [kinds of] fruits and forgiveness from their Lord, like [that of] those who abide eternally in the Fire and are given to drink scalding water that will sever their intestines?

Knowing the Musselman’s penchant concerning lying to infidels, what purpose is served by this? Seems more likely it’s just an attempt at humor in advertising.

Why don’t all the Captain Morgan executives just troop down to the nearest mosque and throw themselves at the feet of the imam begging forgiveness for being so islamophobic by producing alcoholic beverages? Up to this point they’ve been doing everything but. I would like to see them flagellated as much as any imam.
obrlnews says
Muslims drink booze like fish, the idea of widespread abstention from alcohol is a myth, except in areas ruled by murderous mullahs, or in deep squallor poverty. The biggest bootleg item imported into Saudi Arabia has always been scotch whiskey. Same in all the wealthy oil shiekdoms. Where they have money, they drunkenly stagger through the world’s casinos and brothels, returning home to beat and screw their slave-wives. The near-war between the Saudis and Pakistan some decades back was due to the Paki leader going fundamentalist, and nixing the nearly completed development of a booze-whore-casino on one of Pakistan’s islands. The Saudis had financed it, hoping to build a Las Vegas closer to home. Basra was similar under Saddam, a place where wealthy Muslims could go to get drunk, screw imported infidel prostitutes and gamble. The high-up Western elites also participated at such places, everyone knows it in the stratospheric circles, but rarely is it spoken about publicly. Rather like Epstein’s fantasy island. I suspect that even the liberal news reporters know of it, and visit such places. Will never forget how journalist Peter Jennings was seduced in bed by the young and pretty Hannan Asharwi, PLO operative and “Mata Hari” spy, while hanging out at Lebanon’s then swinger bars. She turned him against Israel, where people also drink booze, but do so openly and modestly, where women are free, and men aren’t a hundredth as miserable.

I am not sure about the intent of this question. But it might be a valid question. I have heard Moslem taxi drivers refuse to transport riders who have been drinking or carrying alcoholic beverages. I have heard about clerks in certain stores from handling pork products at the cash register.
