“As a police officer, we always try to get what happened, and we’re always conscious in attempting to determine why it happened,” he said in sum. “We don’t always get (the) why.”
Yeah, that “why” is a real mystery. But here is a clue. The Islamic State issued this call in September 2014:
So O muwahhid, do not let this battle pass you by wherever you may be. You must strike the soldiers, patrons, and troops of the tawaghit. Strike their police, security, and intelligence members, as well as their treacherous agents. Destroy their beds. Embitter their lives for them and busy them with themselves. If you can kill a disbelieving American or European — especially the spiteful and filthy French — or an Australian, or a Canadian, or any other disbeliever from the disbelievers waging war, including the citizens of the countries that entered into a coalition against the Islamic State, then rely upon Allah, and kill him in any manner or way however it may be….If you are not able to find an IED or a bullet, then single out the disbelieving American, Frenchman, or any of their allies. Smash his head with a rock, or slaughter him with a knife, or run him over with your car, or throw him down from a high place, or choke him, or poison him….
“Driver ‘wanted to kill people’: Trial begins over 2017 high-speed street rampage in downtown Edmonton,” by Jonny Wakefield, National Post, October 2, 2019:
Abdulahi Hasan Sharif intended to kill people when he led police on a high-speed chase through downtown Edmonton after allegedly attacking Const. Mike Chernyk, Crown prosecutors argued on his first day of trial.
Sharif, 32, is accused of 11 offences, including five counts of attempted murder in connection with the events of Sept. 30, 2017. He pleaded not guilty to the offences after jury selection Monday….
“Once you have heard the evidence, it is the Crown’s position that you will be convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that Abdulahi Sharif wanted to kill people,” Crown prosecutor Elizabeth Wheaton told the jury. “He tried first to murder Const. Chernyk, and then during an extremely dangerous driving pattern, he fled from police causing bodily harm to four strangers.
“It is the Crown’s position he intentionally tried to kill these people by hitting them in that U-haul truck.”
Sharif sat in the prisoner’s box next to an interpreter, who is translating the proceedings into Somali….
Court heard Chernyk was alone manning a traffic stop around 8 p.m. “Suddenly, he noticed headlights coming toward him,” Wheaton said. “He heard the sound of a vehicle accelerating. He tried to move out of the way but it was too late.
A white Chevy Malibu “plowed into him and he flew through the air,” she continued. “A number of bystanders tried to come to his aid as he laid on his back and tried to get his bearings.”
“But suddenly the driver of that vehicle was there. A black man in dark clothing with a knife, and he was trying to stab Const. Chernyk in the head with that knife.
The bystanders saw the knife and they fled, fearing for their lives. Const. Chernyk was now alone, fighting for his.”
Court heard Cherynk kept his hand on his gun as his assailant fought for it. Eventually they disengaged and the attacker fled into the night.
A few hours later, around 11 p.m., officers manning a containment point at 112 Avenue and Wayne Gretzky Drive stopped a man driving a U-Haul. When an officer took the driver’s licence, the vehicle sped off.
Police followed the speeding vehicle into downtown Edmonton, Wheaton said, reaching speeds of up to 85 km/h. When the chase reached 109 Street, the speeding truck turned into the alley The Pint nightclub and struck two pedestrians. Two more were hit near Audreys Books, located at 107 Street and Jasper Avenue, before a constable in a police vehicle knocked the van onto its side and pulled out a suspect….
“The Crown’s position is none of the collisions were accidents,” Wheaton said. “Mr. Sharif could have avoided people in that alley but he didn’t. He intentionally hit them. He could have stayed on the road by Audreys Books but he intentionally drove into a crowd of people.”…
RCMP officer Ned Mirjanic, a sergeant with the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), testified he received a call about Chernyk 9 p.m. He assembled his team at EPS headquarters a few hours later, at which point city police and RCMP management determined the file should be passed to INSET….

What are people like this doing in the country? He can’t even speak English. Oh Canada, where are you heading?

Looks like a Somali … many of them are deeply conflicted, wanting to prosper in the West and to be jihadists at the same time. Tragically confused.

Sharif doesn’t sound confused to me–murderous, but not confused.

Abdulahi Hasan Sharif shows signs of JIHADISM … the teaching that jihad is the most important activity of a Muslims and one that guarantees his entry into the pornographic, alcohol-streaming Islamic paradise. The only conceivable reason for attacking the police would be to provoke them to send him to his playboy club in the sky. Surely, police are clever enough to get that out of him … they thought of it.

Like the feature article states:
“As a police officer, we always try to get what happened, and we’re always conscious in attempting to determine why it happened,” he said in sum. “We don’t always get (the) why.”
You’ll only get the “why” if you do a root cause analysis. Objective, factual, and evidence-based. Keep peeling back the onion until you get to the root cause – which will be Islam.
But Jihad Watch readers knew that already…
Joe says
The police don’t want to get the “why”. It might be detrimental to their careers, if they cite jihad. We have seen so many of these rented truck attacks, that we will soon probably see commercials for them.

The headline here calls Mr. Sharif a “Muslim driver”. But take a look at the original report (click on the underlined “National Post” link) and do a string-search on the strings “muslim” and “islam”. These words appear nowhere in the article. He’s probably some kind of renegade kafir.

Islamic violence against infidels… It is all connected whether they happen in France or Germany or Sweden or even in faraway India or Australia.. Ps remember this.

Dear Mirjanic, if you can’t figure out the why yourself then quit your job if in fact you are an employee of INSET (national security). I would expect anyone in that position to know a muslim when he trips over one using the same M.O. as is used by muslims worldwide.
