“It is frightful to imagine what he may have done with such sensitive information.”
Yes. But will the French authorities now do anything effective to make sure this doesn’t happen again? Of course not. That would be “Islamophobic.” Mickaël Harpon is likely to be the first of many, because any attempt to question Muslim officials or deny them top security clearance if that questioning turned up anything suspicious would immediately be denounced as “racist” and “bigoted.” The fear of charges of “Islamophobia” is a suicide pill.
“Paris police attacker had top secret security clearance,” by Lara Marlowe, Irish Times, October 7, 2019:
Mickaël Harpon, who stabbed three police officers and a woman civil servant to death before he was killed at Paris police headquarters on October 3rd, was a radical Islamist with a top secret security clearance and access to all computers in the police prefecture’s directorate of intelligence, known as the DRPP.
The DRPP is responsible for the surveillance of suspected radical Islamists. Yet Harpon continued to work there, even as he showed signs of radicalisation. This mind-boggling fact has shaken President Emmanuel Macron’s administration. Interior minister Christophe Castaner admitted the state “dysfunctioned” but denied there was a “state scandal”.
“The Paris attack showed the poison of radical Islam has penetrated the heart of the state apparatus,” said Le Figaro’s front-page editorial, which concluded the state is in denial.
Harpon, a West Indian, aged 45, was a deaf mute computer technician. Mr Castaner initially described him as an employee with no behavioural problems. Now the right and far right are clamouring for Mr Castaner’s resignation. The minister defended himself on Monday, saying he told “the truth as it was known” in the hours after the attack.
It is not known whether Harpon divulged secrets to fellow Islamists, Mr Castaner told France Inter radio. “I cannot guarantee he did not use his access to give information. For the time being, nothing indicates that he did.”
Senator Christian Cambon, head of the parliamentary committee on intelligence which will question Mr Castaner on Tuesday, said Harpon had access to the names and home addresses of all police agents. “It is frightful to imagine what he may have done with such sensitive information,” Mr Cambon said.
Police found USB sticks with data on dozens of police officers, as well as Islamic State propaganda videos, in Harpon’s apartment, France 2 television reported on Monday night.
Harpon attended prayers at the mosque in Gonesse, the banlieue north of Paris where he lived. He had recently begun wearing Muslim robes to the mosque and frequented Salafists, Muslims who interpet [sic] the Koran literally and want to return to the time of the Prophet. His mobile phone showed contact with a radical preacher who is under police surveillance, Le Figaro reported…

islam is a cancer and must be eradicated–TINA
Ida says
It is unlikely that the destructive Ideology of islam will be ‘eradicated’ as TINA said. It is well past time, however, that more people and government entities make the firm stand for the Truth about islam, and enact laws to protect the rest of societies from their rampant violence.
mortimer says
Terry, it doesn’t help to use over-the-top language. Islam is a political ideology filled with absurd ideas springing from vicious delusions of a 7th century madman suffering from temporal lobe epilepsy. Muslims self-hypnotize and some of them who convince themselves of the requirement of jihad commit cruel, evil deeds. We live a world of human rights and in such a world the way to ‘eradicate’ Islam is to convince Muslims that humans wrote the Koran and the hadiths inspired by Mohammed’s mental illness. It’s a bad IDEOLOGY.

With every fact that has now emerged about all the prior red flags put up by the muslim shit at the center of this very latest case of Sudden Jihad Syndrome in the so-called ‘anti-terrorist [ahem, excuse me] ‘intelligence’ department of the French Police, I feel every confidence in stating that this one most certainly would not have been allowed to happen here in Australia.
Despite whatever past slip ups and failings, and despite whatever (even legitimate) criticisms we may have, or had, regarding our own police and intelligence services here, they still have infinitely more brains and common sense than what the French have. This ‘sweating stick of muslim gelignite’ – if he had ever managed to procure such a departmental position here in the very first place [which I think is highly unlikely] – would most certainly have been shown the front door and ‘given his road map and billy-can’ at least by 2015 (or even before). And not only that but he would have become a POI on the constant surveillance list. He would not have even got a contract as a cleaner for a local suburban police station.
Makes me wonder just how good this French (so-called) ‘anti-terrorist intelligence’ department actually are at chatter and traffic analysis? !

Give the police time to come with some stupid statement, like ”he just read them for fun since he doesn’t have Charlie Hebdo to read anymore.”

Ironic that above article is from Irish Times, since they are so keen on muslims joining the Irish police.

Heck, Homeland Security USA had hired about 60 people who were on Watch lists. You’re supposed to do background checks *before* you hire. That wasn’t talked up much in the media…might cause “Islamophobia.” That’s not the only government department that’s hired bad characters. Just saying, France isn’t unique.
All too often mosques are bad for one’s character-they don’t seem to make people kinder and gentler. In other words, they spawn not peaceful people.
I get a kick out of media’s explanation of Salafism, that is, taking the Qur’an literally. How else is there to take it? Fight until only Allah is worshipped, don’t take non-Muslims as friends, you can only have sex with your wife and slavery girl, captive Jews and Christians can’t live only if the pay the jizya (extortion tax) or convert, otherwise fight until death…and so on. So hoe is one not to take that literally? So, what is figurative? Bible stories, gardens and 60 cubic feet tall Houris and endless sex in Paradise?
I repeatedly see this in articles. Robert ought to set the record straight. I’ve read teachers in Germany calling some Muslim students Salafists because they already have the chauvinist attitudes towards women and are apparently learning Islam’s violent origin and history. The things they’re saying are normative Islam…the Qur’an and ahadith.

Of course, it would have bigoted and Islamophobic to even consider the possibility that maybe, just maybe Muslims who are given top secret security clearance to police computers should be subjected to extra scrutiny or better yet not given such access in first instance. This is where political correctness becomes positively suicidal.

Muslims working in intelligence or security should do regular lie-detector checks to test if they are radicalized.
gravenimage says
This is mainstream Islam, Mortimer–there is nothing “radical” about Jihad.
And this Jihadist himself said that he was for the Charlie Hebdo massacre–if that wasn’t enough to give the police a head’s up, I don’t think the results of a lie detector test would be.
CogitoErgoSum says
True. He could have told them in all sincerity that one day he was going to slit their throats because the Koran tells him he should and they would not have believed him — because they were indoctrinated to believe Islam is a religion of peace and that the most pious Muslims are also the ones most dedicated to loving all of mankind. Maybe now a few more of the French are having their doubts about that.
I wonder how that French version of Islam is coming along.
gravenimage says
I don’t know if they didn’t believe him–or if they were just too cowed to do anything about it. Suicidal insanity, in any case.
CogitoErgoSum says
I am currently reading Charles Dickens’ “A Tale of Two Cities.” In contrast to the novel the tale being told today is now the same for both London and Paris — a rise in immigrants accompanied by a plague of knife attacks and, yes, a form of suicidal insanity that afflicts both cities indeed. I see the image of the grindstone permanently stained red as the blades continue to be sharpened.
