“A true acknowledgement of historical crimes against humanity must include both the heinous genocides of the 20th century, along with earlier mass slaughters like the transatlantic slave trade and Native American genocide, which took the lives of hundreds of millions of indigenous people in this country.”
All right. And how about we also add the 1,400-year Islamic jihad against non-Muslims? Does Ilhan Omar have anything to say about that? Almost certainly not, even though it featured not one, but many “mass slaughters.”
“Ilhan Omar refuses to back vote recognising Armenian genocide,” by Chris Riotta, Independent, October 30, 2019:
Ilhan Omar declined to vote in favour of a resolution recognising the mass killing of Armenians by Ottoman Turks as a genocide, saying any “true acknowledgement” of such crimes must include other historical “mass slaughters”.
The Minnesota Democrat was one of just three House members to vote “present” on the resolution that passed in an overwhelming 405-11 vote.
The congresswoman said in a statement shortly after the vote she believes in “accountability for human rights violations” but “accountability and recognition of genocide should not be used as cudgel in a political fight.
“It should be done based on academic consensus outside the push and pull of geopolitics”, she said.
Ms Omar appeared to be referring to the increasingly tense developments surrounding Turkey’s invasion into Syria after the US pulled its troops out of the region.
“A true acknowledgement of historical crimes against humanity must include both the heinous genocides of the 20th century, along with earlier mass slaughters like the transatlantic slave trade and Native American genocide, which took the lives of hundreds of millions of indigenous people in this country”, she continued in the statement sent to CNN.
All 11 House members who voted “no” on the resolution were Republican. Paul Gosar, an Arizona Republican, and Eddie Bernice Johnson, a Texas Democrat, joined Ms Omar in voting “present”….

mortimer says
A Muslim should not criticize another Muslim, even when guilt has been confirmed.
However, a member of the Ottoman Royal Family DID condemn the genocides with horror!
Prince Abdul Mecid (heir-apparent to the Ottoman Throne, during an interview and later Caliph of Islam until 1924) said, “I refer to those awful massacres. They are the greatest stain that has ever disgraced our nation and race. They were entirely the work of Talat and Enver. I heard some days before they began that they were intended. I went to Istanbul and insisted on seeing Enver. I asked him if it was true that they intended to recommence the massacres which had been our shame and disgrace under Abdul Hamid. The only reply I could get from him was: ‘It is decided. It is the program.’”
Wellington says
Thanks again, mortimer, for having uncommon knowledge about one of the most egregious inflictions ever visited upon mankind, this being the Islamic faith of course.

The Armenian Genocides, the Assyrian Genocide and the Pontic Genocide were ISLAMIC GENOCIDES authorized by the CALIPH OF ALL ISLAM. The genocides were conducted under the authority of Turkey’s Islamic autocracy in the name of the caliph (aka The Sultan ‘the ruler’).
It is clear that Ilhan Omar recognizes that these GENOCIDES had the full authority of the Islamic state. That is why she cannot condemn them.
“A Universal Proclamation to All the People of Islam” published in 1915 in the name of the Sultan is also known as the Fatwa of 1915. It gave Muslims the green light to attack kafirs around the world except for German allies.

Which makes no sense whatsoever. Does the Armenian Genocide stops being a genocide if one doesn’t consider the Rwandan genocide to be a genocide? Or the other way around? It is also a self-defeating argument – if one must acknowledge ALL genocides in order to acknowledge each of them, then there’ll never be any recognized genocide because, whatever the genocide, there’ll always be someone denying it.

I like your optimism. May it eventually be borne out by the future but I have a reservation about the voting electorate in this country, which is dumbing down by the decade precipitously. Your “prophet” muhammed.

Can you guess what religion has “terrorized the world” with ” a message of violence and hate”?
islam :with its violent koranically sanctioned jihadist ideology and its DOCTRINE OF HATE{al walaa wal baraa}
If ilhan omar is willing to condemn a mass-murderer as evil will she now condemn that famous mass murderer, muhammed{ABU DAWUD 4390}??
If YES then she must denounce her “prophet”,muhammed the mass-murderer.
If NO,then she proves herself a hypocrite, insincere and a fraud!

And wouldn’t the world be a”safer place without”{muhammed} and islam?

The only thing Ilhan Omar is interested in is the cause of Islam. If there was the remotest doubt about it in my mind, it was removed by her comments in a discussion about India recently in congress:
While the discussions were on Kashmir, the only thing she was interested in was Muslims being able to easily migrate to India and have full voting rights as citizens. This aside from her conflating her own ‘values’ w/ American values.

Other genocides that might be worth a Congressional resolution:
The genocide of the Assyrians, more than half of whom were killed by the Ottoman Turks during and after World War I — approximately 300,000 killed.
The murder of 70-80 million Hindus by Muslims during several centuries of Mughal rule.
The Arab slave trade, that began many centuries before, and lasted almost two centuries later, and claimed tens of millions of victims more than did The Atlantic slave trade. See Jan Hogedoorn, “The Hideous Trade.”
The mass enslavement of African blacks by Muslim Arabs that continues in Mauritania, Mali, and Niger.
Finally, Have you , Ilhan Omar, received any money, or other gifts, such as travel and accommodations, from the Turkish government or anyone else connected with Turkey, including Turkish-Americans?
Ilhan Omar has had various louche dealings, including husbands who may also be brothers and non-husbands who seem to be husbands for green card and tax purposes, which we would all like to have cleared up. Any chance of that?

Kepha says
Being of East African Muslim origins, Ilhan Omar is a fine one to wax indignant over the African slave trade. Her people didn’t stop raiding and trading in humans until Perfijjus Albion pointed Maxim guns at them. However, our American liberals will take this protest seriously, since all they see is Omar’s skin color.
While Uncle Kepha is humbly grateful that the Union was preserved in 1861-65, and that the “peculiar institution” was done away with, he comes from stock that is in greater danger of an arrogant self-righteousness, and likes to wallow in white guilt in order to show that we, too, are, by virtue of our pale skins, peers of those who called Opa/Bestefar/Zayde a Greenhorn.

Ilhan Omar refuses to vote for Congressional resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide
……..,………..
Disgusting, but no surprise–a little Taqiyya for the Infidels.
I wonder if she’d have a problem with taking part in such a genocide, though? Most pious Muslims would be happy to do so.
Rob says
The late ME expert Professor Bernard Lewis also denied that the slaughter of Armenians by Turks was ‘genocide’. It was a definitional argument, in that a genocide must meet the test that one part of a population slaughters another just for the reason of race or religion. Certainly what the Turks did was a war crime on a massive scale but the Armenians had been in an armed uprising against them equating a civil war.
I think the bigger lesson if you add in Turkey’s invasion and occupation of Cyprus is this:
Turkey is unsuitable for any linkage with the West.
gravenimage says
The Armenians–and Assyrians, and Greeks, and Levantines–were slaughtered by the Muslim Turks because they were Christian. As many as 2 million civilians were murdered, in a series of waves from 1895 until 1922.
Is Rob justifying this? Sounds like it. Turkey is almost “Christian-rein” today. Not that this has anything to do with Islam…sarc/off

Probably a Holocaust Denier as well. Something like 1.5Million Armenians murdered systematically. Recently on British TV, October, 2019, there was a documentary about this episode in Turkish History. Giacomo Latta says
Ilhan Omar:
”recognition of genocide should not be used as a cudgel in a political fight”
In a political fight such as recognition of genocide? You just gotta love (lack of) Islamic logic.
One other small matter. When representatives of two different countries get together for a formal discussion are not the flags of the two countries displayed behind them? Did Omar become Turk for a day? Or was the visit not official because they met for other reasons. Is that a bong sitting on the table between thm?

Apparently in this instance that is not the view of our Executive Branch, and no prosecution has materialised.

Angemon says
Huh, what? Slave trade = genocide? That’s not how slavery works – you capture slaves and, in order to do so, you don’t try to kill every last one of them. In any case, the trasantlantic slave trade was fuelled by Arabs and African muslims who captured Africans to sell as slaves. They also kept at least as many to themselves, and yet there’s no African diaspora in, for example, Saudi Arabia or Iran as there is in, let’s say, the US and Brazil, despite them taking most of the females. You want to talk about slavery and genocide? Fine – look into that and we’ll talk.
And yet, they were unable to kill every last one of them – despite, according to you, having taking the lives of hundreds of millions(citation needed). Almost as if there was no intention of genocide… Now, whose fault it was that Native Americans lacked immunological responses to several common diseases that are little more than annoyances to Europeans and Africans?…

OK Just in India ( “mass slaughters”) :
According to Prof. K.S. Lal, the author of the Growth of Muslim population in India, the Hindu population decreased by 80 million between 1000 AD, the year Mahmud Ghazni invaded India and 1525 AD, a year before the battle of Panipat.
By all known accounts of world history, as pointed out by Koenard Elst in his book the Negationism in India, destruction of about 100 million Hindus is perhaps the biggest holocaust in the whole world history.
