President Trump suggests that the Kurds may have released them in order to get us involved:
….Kurds may be releasing some to get us involved. Easily recaptured by Turkey or European Nations from where many came, but they should move quickly. Big sanctions on Turkey coming! Do people really think we should go to war with NATO Member Turkey? Never ending wars will end!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 14, 2019
The UK’s far-Left Independent calls that suggestion “insane.” But why is it insane? Is it really inconceivable that such a thing could occur?
One principal reason why I hesitate to join the chorus of condemnation of Trump over his refusal to go to war with Turkey right now, as despotic and aggressive as Recep Tayyip Erdogan is, is because of those leading that chorus. The hard-Left Independent has never had American interests at heart, and is part of the ongoing establishment media effort to discredit and destroy an elected President because they don’t like his policies. Their moral outrage on the part of the Kurds is illuminating of who and what is behind all this.
Meanwhile, it is terrible that the Islamic State prisoners have escaped, and not proven that they would not have been able to overpower their guards and escape if the U.S. had troops in the area. They need to be recaptured. If the Turks, and the Kurds, do not make efforts to do this, the onus is on them.
“US-backed Kurdish forces strike deal with Syria’s Assad,” by Helen Regan and Eliza Mackintosh, CNN, October 14, 2019:
…Kurdish authorities claim Turkey’s offensive has led to the escape of “785 people affiliated with foreign ISIS fighters” from the Ain Issa camp. The camp mainly houses internally displaced people and some ISIS family members.
According to a statement posted on the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria Facebook page, “ISIS elements attacked the camp guards, opened the gates and escaped.” CNN is unable to verify the claims.
Erdogan called the reports of an escape “disinformation” in order to “provoke the US and Europe,” Turkish news agency Anadolu reports.
Trump has railed against European countries for not taking back their nationals who left to join the extremist group. “The US has the worst of the ISIS prisoners. Turkey and the Kurds must not let them escape. Europe should have taken them back after numerous requests. They should do it now.” Trump tweeted Sunday.
Trump has also dismissed the overall threat of ISIS escapees, saying last week, “Well, they’re going to be escaping to Europe.”
A European intelligence official questioned the Syrian regime and Russia’s readiness and willingness to take foreign ISIS fighters into custody….
mortimer says
The Kurds have no backup, limited resources and releasing the prisoners is logical under those circumstances. The US should have called for a plebiscite to determine the desire among Kurds for an independent Kurdistan. Such an independent Kurdish state would be a true ally to the US in the region.

The West should never ally with a Muslim country Sunni or Shiite. If you think differently then you shouldn’t be on JW.
elee says
As I undeerstand the situation, the Kurds—who are mostly but not all Muslims—-have operated the closest thing to a modern western polity in the region, with toleration for Christians and secularists. If you dispute this assertion let me know, And your assertion that mortimer is out of place here is offensive to anyone who has read his posts here for a while. Ive disagreed with him from time to time but would never impugn his commitment to countering Musllim world domination schemes.
Avenger says
elee,
When Kurds with American backing, annihilated Al-Qaeda and ISIS fighters from northern Syrian cities the surviving Christians, Yashidis and other non Muslims were immediately reduced to dhimmi status.
For centuries these “brave” muslim fighters have slaughtered with impunity Christians in the Anatolia. During the Armenian genocide they were used by the Turks to hunt down and kill every Christian man, woman or child they could get their bloody hands on. Their voracity was such that they even invaded neighboring Persia to seek out any Armenian or Assyrian Christians that may have sought refuge there.
Mortimer has very thoughtful comments on JW but he believes that in the long run Muslims will snap out of their bad behavior and become world class citizens. He’s either very naive or its a rather wicked form of Muslim Taqiya.

“The West should never ally with a Muslim country Sunni or Shiite. ”
How about the East?
Avenger says
First of all I consider Russia a Western nation. Yes the Russians need to leave Iran and implode it on their way out but only after the US and NATO ends their alliance with Wahhabist Saudi Arabia.
So when you say the “east” I believe you mean China, Thailand etc.
If it’s only buying oil, coal, or minerals then I say to them it’s okay but if China militarizes Pakistan to destabilize India we are back to the same conundrum of using Muslims to fight your enemies. When this happens the enemy is conquered but what takes over is a new muslim controlled country.
Savvy Kafir has it dead right, you isolate these Muhammad following gangsters.
Angemon says
“First of all I consider Russia a Western nation. ”
First time I hear say something along those lines from you. In fact, you have made statements where “Russia” and “the West” were portrayed as opposing players.
“Yes the Russians need to leave Iran and implode it on their way out ”
The same Iran you defend on this very thread?… “Ignore the Jew, he’s just a Jew (have I mentioned he is a Jew), therefore he’s using evidence to make Iran look bad!”
Savvy Kafir says
Avenger — I agree that the U.S. should never ally itself with any Muslim country, which is always incredibly foolish. Nor should we spend our money strengthening our enemies by giving Muslims any sort of aid. Nor should we sell them weapons … or allow them to make donations to American universities, etc. … or allow them to fund the building of mosques in the U.S. … or allow them to own businesses or real estate in the U.S., or stock in American companies.
Also, we need to get serious about developing the technology & infrastructure for alternative energy sources, so that we, and the rest of the West, can PERMANENTLY become energy independent, WITHOUT degrading or endangering the environment with fracking, the mining of shale oil, oil pipelines, deep-water oil rigs, etc. We need to get smart about energy. There is no good reason not to.
Muslim countries need to be isolated and left to their own devices. With no one to buy their oil, they will soon become irrelevant — except as dumping-grounds for Muslims deported from the West en masse.
Savvy Kafir says
I should have said: Muslim nations will become irrelevant (except for the dumping of deportees) after we stop buying their oil and isolate them economically … AND we deprive Pakistan of its nukes (I gather the U.S. military has a plan in place) … and IF we make damn sure that Iran, and other Muslim countries, never develop the ability to produce nuclear weapons. Yeah. That oughta do it.
Avenger says
Excellent posts!
I agree 100% with every point you made Savvy Kafir.
SAFI says
I don’t think they released anyone on purpose, but given the circumstances it’s logical that they will priorotize defending their own homes over guarding the prisons. The turkish FM said turkey will take responsibility for any cuptured ISIS fighters within the zone they’ve declared they will occupy. We’ll see about that…
Trick_or_Treat says
While Magog (Turkey) invades and things deepen and take shape even more, the other allies in this biblical triad, Persia (Iran) and Gog (Russia), wait in the wings also – and Israel ready to react straight away. Isaiah 17:1 is very close. And if Ezekiel 38, 39, and Daniel 9: 25-27 closely follow that, then do you know what comes with that?
People (even as all the other biblical prophecies now unfold and fulfill at an astonishing pace now, right before our very eyes) if you have not already believed that Christ is Lord of all, and have not already accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of your soul, and have ‘got right’ with God, then you should think about doing it TODAY, NOW, because you are not even promised the next breath – let alone the next hour – before the trumpet blows.
RonaldB says
The US created ISIS through its overthrow of the Saddam Hussein government, and perpetuated it by training and supporting rebel groups trying to overthrow the Syrian government of Assad, a stable government, although a threat to Israel. The US has no vital interest in maintaining a Kurdish state. The Kurds are already signalling an agreement with Turkey, which is a logical move.
Trump is correct: the Muslims sects have been fighting each other for a thousand years, and the US has no interest in siding with one or another as long as we keep them out of our country.

Nah, Saddam and Assad gave us ISIS.

What a pile of “maybe it could be true” bullshit Angemon. Daniel Greenfield is Jewish and he will understandably go the low road and use any iota of evidence trying to connect Shi’a Muslims and finally Iran to the rise of ISIS.
Bush didn’t finish the job in Iraq, Obama let it fester and neocons like McCain and Graham finally sent these wonderful people (ISIS and Al-Qaeda) money and weapons to destroy the legitimate government of Syria.

Avenger, I was inclined to agree with your earlier posts until now when your anti-semitism showed its ugly head. I have no time or respect for people who hate the Jewish people.

My best friend in the world is Jewish and Israel is the last hope for sanity in the ME but this journalist is distorting facts and pushing a false narrative to smear the wrong people. Assad and the dead Hussein actively exterminated or imprisoned jihadis. It was in their absence that Al-Qaeda and ISIS flourished. I’ll criticize any person of any religion I want if in my opinion they’re lying.
Angemon says
“My best friend in the world is Jewish”
Reminds me of racists going “my bests friend is black”…
“ but this journalist is distorting facts and pushing a false narrative to smear the wrong people”
Or so you say. In any case, the implication is that you don’t have a problem with distorting facts and pushing a false narrative meant to smear people, just as long as it is the “right” people…
“Assad and the dead Hussein actively exterminated or imprisoned jihadis. ”
The same Assad who unleashed them on the Syrian population… Both sponsored islamic terrorists, as long as they kept their terrorism outside their nations. And both courted islamic hardliners – didn’t end well, did it?…
“ I’ll criticize any person of any religion I want if in my opinion they’re lying.”
Your opinion is that Daniel Greenfield lies because of his religion. And not in the islamic taqqyia way – you ascribe him an agenda on the grounds he is a Jew.
Angemon says
“What a pile of “maybe it could be true” bullshit Angemon.”
Daniel Greenfield, the expert analyst and tireless anti-jihadi (thus making him your exact opposite), points fingers and names names while you simply claim “it’s bullshit”. Brilliant response! Doesn’t prove anything he wrote is wrong, though… There’s no “maybe” or “it could be” in Daniel’s analysis – he names specific people and events, and your reeeeeing won’t change that. Doesn’t even make for passable damage control…
“Daniel Greenfield is Jewish and he will understandably go the low road and use any iota of evidence trying to connect Shi’a Muslims and finally Iran to the rise of ISIS. ”
You didn’t read the article, did you?… For f***’s sake, it’s titled “The US Didn’t Create ISIS — Assad and Saddam Did”, not “The US Didn’t Create ISIS — Shias and Iran Did”. Of course, being the pro-russian whitewasher you are, you are here carrying water for Iran, Russia’s ally. Not the first time and certainly not the last… And the way things are going, I expect to see you doing the same for Turkey in the near/middle future…
“Bush didn’t finish the job in Iraq, Obama let it fester and neocons like McCain and Graham finally sent these wonderful people (ISIS and Al-Qaeda) money and weapons to destroy the legitimate government of Syria.”
So many claims, so little evidence… Unlike Daniel’s analysis… BTW, here’s another take, not written by a Jew, which is seemingly a problem for you, since it’s the point of contention you use to try to discredit Mr. Greenfield:

If I was a Kurdish leader, I’d take this Turkish offensive as an opportunity to permanently rid my gang of the obligation to house and feed those 100.000 enemy ISIS troops. In wars, “accidents” often happen, ya know! (CAPISCE?)!
😉
And now, I eagerly await the predictably virtue-signaling reply from Mortimer, calling me bad names and calling on everyone else to pity all these baby-decapitating, slave-raping and prisoner-burning jihadis as “equally helpless fellow victims” too.
