Ms. Begum’s plight is a shame indeed, but it is self-imposed. Nobody forced her to sneak away to join the Islamic State. Tom Hickman’s appeal to compassion includes no compassion for those murdered by Shamima Begum’s husband, or for those who might be endangered in Britain if she returns and engages in jihad activity there. This is not unexpected: for the Left in general, the perpetrators of crime in general are much more worthy of compassion than the victims.
“Shamima Begum: Stripping citizenship put her at risk of hanging, court hears,” BBC, October 22, 2019 (thanks to Paul):
Removing Shamima Begum’s citizenship after she went to Syria left her stateless and at risk of hanging, a court has heard.
Her lawyer said Ms Begum, now 20, is in “an incredibly fragile and dangerous” position in a Syrian refugee camp.
After leaving London as a 15-year-old, Ms Begum lived under the rule of the Islamic State group for three years, before being found in February.
The Home Office denies that the decision left her stateless.
It says that she could claim Bangladeshi nationality through her family, but her lawyers told the court that Bangladesh said it will not allow Ms Begum into the country and she would face hanging if she tried to enter secretly.
A four-day preliminary hearing is taking place at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission, a semi-secret court that deals with cases where the UK government wants to keep someone out of the country on national security grounds.
In submissions to the court, Ms Begum’s lawyers said she had only professed sympathy for the Islamic State group in media interviews to protect herself and her newborn son, who later died in the refugee camp.
In February 2015, Ms Begum left Bethnal Green in east London for Syria with two friends.
Within days she had crossed the Turkish border and eventually reached the IS headquarters at Raqqa, where she was married to a Dutch convert recruit. They had three children – all of whom have since died.
After she was found in February, former Home Secretary Sajid Javid stripped her of her UK citizenship.
Tom Hickman QC told the court that Ms Begum was challenging the decision on three grounds, including that it had made his client stateless.
He also argued that removing her citizenship led to a “real risk of death” or suffering other human rights abuses….
somehistory says
Well, she had to learn sometime that every decision brings with it consequences. It was her choice to go and become part of a terror group. Her choice was a very bad one and now, she has to face the consequences.
Why should anyone feel sorry for her? She has not really shown that she knows she deserves for bad things to happen to her; she just wants to go back to the way her life used to be. No one gets to do that, especially someone who commits crimes. There is a cost and now she must pay it.
Wherever she is, others are at “risk” of death by moslim terror. She is a danger to others…and it’s all her own doing that she is now in a bad situation ;and whatever danger she may face is due to her own choices.
Save Europe says
She should not be allowed to ever enter the U.K. again.
Let Bangladesh take her. That’s where her forebears are from, and it’s regressing as a Muslim country, so she’d love it there.
mortimer says
She burned her passport and denounce the UK in order to join ISIS.
Jap says
Mortimer, correct me if I’m wrong, I was taught that if anyone went to fight for a foreign power without the permission of their government, then that person is classed as a mercenary and as such loses their citizenship. So any isis fighters no longer have a home.
Also, if anyone burns there passport and renounces their citizenship, then they no longer belong to that country.
So, just what the hell is happening here?
David says
If she did burn her passport, then she made herself symbolically stateless. I would guess that her legal defence is being paid out of the public purse. Just a guess.
Why would Bangladesh hang her? You would think she would be a heroine there.
Her life is a tragedy, but of her own making. She has Islam to thank for that.
Save Europe says
That’s what I mean Sir. She’d love Bangladesh and vice versa.
Herb L says
Keep on doing what you been doing, and you’ll keep on getting what you been getting. All her kids are dead? I don’t think she has shown any responsibility of any Nation, but she leads death everywhere she goes.
Dusty says
Sorry but I really don’t care. She’s made her bed, she can lie in it.
David says
That is called Taqiyya! Muslims lie in their beds and everywhere else.
Dusty says
Sorry but I truly don’t care. She’s made her bed, she can lie in it.
Angemon says
You mean she’ll have to pay for her actions?
They see her for what she is – a dangerous terrorist. Now, the inspiration for her actions was derived from her Bangladeshi background, not from British culture. Bangladesh doesn’t want her – why should the UK take her in?
mortimer says
Yes, she should pay for her sins and crimes. 200 Nazi war criminals paid for their sins at the end of a rope. Many were sentenced to life in prison. ISIS criminals must pay.
European pagan says
They should hang her
Goofy says
Allah is all merciful! Bangladesh is so committed to Islam that it refuses to make marriages with children illegal, because it might put prophet Muhammad in a bad light. Send her to Bangladesh to experience firsthand the mercy of Allah! You cannot have it both ways: Enjoying the humanity of Christian nations whilst at the same time wage terror wars against them. By the way all Muslims caught in crime should be given a special edition study Koran furnished with I formation on what it costs to follow the prophet Muhammad in case of domestic violence, slavery, including sex slavery, murder, including “honour killings” threat of killing apostates etc.
TKF says
Look at the upside…if she dies, she’ll get to Muslim heaven that much faster. She’ll get to meet crazy Mo and Allah Akbar in person. Doesn’t get much better than that for a true believer. Linkum!
mortimer says
The argument about hanging is important. I am former abolitionist. My mind was changed by Islamic terrorists who ‘love death’. Let them embrace what they love with the help of their best friend, the official, public hangman.
Bring back the death sentence for Islamic terrorists.
mortimer says
Several thousand hangings of Islamist terrorists will have a sobering effect on the Muslim community and make them realize that Islamic jihad is incompatible in the 21st century and that non-Muslims WILL NOT TOLERATE IT.
Since JIHAD is an ESSENTIAL TEACHING of Islam, that cannot be removed from Islam, it will NOT BE PRACTICABLE in any country. When that happens, Muslims will consider and hopefully reason that Allah has become powerless against the dirty KUFAAR and therefore, an impotent Allah is likely to be a FICTIONAL, NON-EXISTENT Allah.
Allah is fictitious and jihad is the nightmare of a madman suffering from untreated temporal lobe epilepsy.
David says
Actually, mortimer, the hangings would cause them to be treated as martyrs, so that is what they need for propaganda, and 72 year-old virgins in Paradise.
gravenimage says
I think we should enforce our laws, independent of what Muslims want.
Besides, when it comes right down to it, many Muslims do not “embrace death” as much as they would have you think.
Keith says
No she is not at risk of death because the UK has withdrawn her citizenship.
She is at risk of death simply because of her choice to leave the country where she was born, bought up, educated and cared for to go and join a terrorist organisation that was involved in a war in 2 middle eastern countries and was at the same time was, and still is, encouraging its followers world wide to commit violent terror attacks in any country that does not accept the Islamic sharia.
At the same time they were capturing and selling slaves, beheading non muslims and butchering in various way muslims who fought against them.
That is why she is at risk of death it has nothing to do with not being a British citizen anymore. If the courts do rule that she should be allowed back then she should be accepted, charged with treason, imprisoned and tried and when found guilty hanged.
And no I don’t have any sympathy for her that she lost 3 children, again that was a consequence of her own choices and actions.
Barb says
The UK must hold it’s position on this as an example to others!
Those who willingly of their own volition chose to do what this ISIS Bride did must face the consequences of their actions!
Bangladesh has the responsibility of taking her back as a prisoner of war!
gravenimage says
Lawyer for Islamic State bride says she is at “real risk of death” because she was stripped of UK citizenship
……………….
It would leave all Britons at risk of death if she and those like her are allowed to return.
James Lincoln says
+1
Peggy says
Don’t Muslims embrace death? They keep telling us how much they welcome it so why is she asking for help?
jca reid says
Well, you know what the Russians say about it, “Toughski sh*tsk!* If that isn’t clear enough the Spanish have a saying as well: “El Tuffo Sh*tto!” Suims it all up neatly.
Dave-E says
You joined ISIS and should have to get the consequences good and hard. Sometimes you make a choice that just sucks. Some lessons are fatal—it’s how Nature demonstrates to tough lessons to others.
Tom says
Too bad, so sad, move along nothing to see here. Let the consequences of her decision fall where they may.
Red Bee says
Shamima Begum should be brought back to the UK.
If you listen carefully to the first interview & are aware of the theology of islam, you have to conclude she is speaking the truth. She is the outcome of a successful islamic upbringing, exept for one thing; islam teaches she should not tell infidels the truth.
In sharp contrast to lawyers, politicians, clerics & other scum, she told us what she really feels and thinks.
I think Shamima Begum probably is the most honest one I saw in this whole tragedy.
Most outcomes of upbringings are successful. Most grownups do what their parents & authority figures taucht them. This is common knowledge.
Shamima Begum was a minor when she made the fatal mistake of joining IS.
gravenimage says
Why, exactly, should we have this vicious Jihadist back in the UK?
Red Bee says
What, exactly, did she do wrong?
