You criticize Islam, you pay a dear price, ranging from jail to murder in many Muslim countries.
Canan Kaftancioglu, a Turkish politician and critic of Islam, has received a ten-year-long prison sentence for “blasphemy against Islam.”
Canan has risked her life and future by standing up for human rights and being daring enough to make fun of Islam:
“Canan once quipped on Twitter: “men with small dicks want to build big mosques.” She posted pictures of herself eating pork (forbidden in Islam) and acknowledged the historical reality of the Armenian Genocide. She once wrote, “stop praying, Muslims: there is no room left in paradise.”
Beyond Canan’s jokes about Islam is her activism for human rights, which are unrecognized by the Turkish government as it makes an example out of those who oppose President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his status as an Islamic despot. Canan is popular, which makes her more vulnerable as a threat to Erdogan. So in the classic Islamic supremacist style, accusations against her are full of lies, including the claim that she spread “terrorist propaganda, insulting civil servants, insulting the president and the Turkish state as well as having provoked public enmity.” The lies are reminiscent of charges of “Islamophobia” now commonly used in the West against those who criticize Islam and the human rights abuses committed in the name of its doctrine.
Canan’s plight should be of concern to anyone and everyone who advocates for human rights, but Westerners have generally become apathetic to the sufferings of those living in Muslim countries. The West has instead become increasingly subjugated, accepting the flawed claims that all cultures are equal, that Islam is a religion of peace, that acceptance of indiscriminate “diversity” is the new holy grail. All of these come at the expense of human rights and freedoms. The truth is that what is happening to Canan has entered Western nations: punishment for those who criticize Islam, all in the name of “tolerance.”

“Turkish Dissident Faces Ten Years in Prison for ‘Blasphemy’ Against Islam,” by Kursat Christoff Pekgoz, FrontPage Magazine, October 7, 2019:
Canan Kaftancioglu, a Turkish politician and critic of Islam, has received a ten-year-long prison sentence for “blasphemy against Islam.” If the Court of Cassation upholds the verdict, Kaftancioglu will have to serve time in prison.
Canan is the executive director of the Istanbul branch of Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP), the secular opposition. Islamists have suffered a crushing defeat in Istanbul, the largest city in Europe and the fourth largest city in the world, thanks to Canan’s relentless efforts. Canan has multiple college degrees and a long history of human rights advocacy, including working for TIHV (Turkish Human Rights Foundation). She has written her dissertation about “Torture Victims in Forensic Medicine.” Her father was assassinated by Islamists.
Islamists are furious because they lost Istanbul, and Canan has now become their scapegoat – given her courageous and colorful rhetoric. Canan once quipped on Twitter: “men with small dicks want to build big mosques.” She posted pictures of herself eating pork (forbidden in Islam) and acknowledged the historical reality of the Armenian Genocide. She once wrote, “stop praying, Muslims: there is no room left in paradise.” She expressed support for Kurdish dissidents, accused the current Turkish government of serial murder, and wrote that “being human is a higher dignity than being Turkish.” She is a Socratic provocateur, perhaps. But her irreverent statements serve a higher purpose: to protest human rights violations. She is the proverbial canary in the coal mine.
Turkey was once an imperfect but functional democracy. Now it is an increasingly theocratic state under the totalitarian presidency of Tayyip Erdogan. Erdogan’s presidential achievements include electoral fraud, persecution of religious minorities, war crimes in Africa, massacring Kurdish civilians, unparalleled corruption, banning Wikipedia and Twitter, centralized online censorship, stacking the courts, persecuting academics, and terrorizing journalists. Swedish lawmakers pressed charges of genocide against him. Various commentators have called him a tyrant, a terrorist, and a war criminal. He has been condemned by international organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
Erdogan’s world view is hateful, racist, imperialistic and totalitarian. He believes that Muslims can conquer Europe via demographic jihad. He denies that men and women are equal. He wrote an anti-Semitic play in high school, with a plot borrowed from The Protocols of the Elders of Zion. He once endorsed a German faction of al-Qaeda. He is also a catastrophic failure in economic matters. He had the constitution rewritten to invest himself with unlimited executive powers. And yet he is shameless enough to market himself as a human rights advocate to The Washington Post…..

Kemal Ataturk is turning over in his grave. His dream Turkey has become a hegemony led by Islamist Erdogan. Turks really need to rise up and recognize the enemy within. When Islam is facing a backlash all over the non-muslim world, Muslims are is holding onto their religion even more tightly. The war of civilization is very close – we will witness it within our lifetime.
Terry Gain says
I don’t see much of a backlash against a Islam. In my little world, Canada’s National Post censors me when I criticize Islam. Disqus also tries to block my comments. Facebook has suspended me 4 times. We have one leader with the wisdom and courage to oppose massMuslim immigration and he is unlikely to get more than 3% of the vote in the coming General Election.
No western leader has, to my knowledge, acknowledged that Islam is evil. When Muslims carry out attacks in Europe the authorities pretend that they don’t understand the motivation for the attack. When they do acknowledge an ideological motivation they falsely claim that the attacker has hijacked Islam. Even President Trump doesn’t say that Islamic terrorism is Islam as practiced by Muhammad.
This site is a voice crying in the wilderness, but I am an optimist by nature so I welcome good news. Where is Islam facing a backlash?
Giacomo Latta says
Have you heard a single Canadian leader breathe the word ”Islam?” Not me. It looked like at least one might with numerous Bloc Québécois candidates sending out tweets mocking Islam yet at a leaders’ debate not one of the other leaders attacked the BQ leader because it would have meant using the word ”Islam.” One of these days some leader will accidentally spit the word out.
JW_Reader says
The leaders do not speak evil of Islam but that does not mean common people have accepted Islam. Anti-Jihad websites like this one, are testament to the fact that common people are pushing back against Islam. These push backs are founded solid knowledge of Quran, Hadith, and Muhammad’s life. That is why no leader wants to debate for Islam – as it is a lose-lose situation for them. But they will eventually come around. President Trump has spoken some truth about Islam in past and so did Boris Johnson. There election win would have been unthinkable in pre-internet era.

The only victims of the victimless “crime” of “blasphemy” are those who are persecuted in its name.
But the abandonment of victims of Islamic persecution is a crime of the most profound moral abandonment. To imprison a human being for merely using her capacity for reason — that which makes us human — to state her understanding of reality and make fun of utter nonsense is the act of the lowest, most brutal thuggery. No wonder is comes so naturally to the slaves of Allah.

“Will they not ponder on the koran? If it had been from other than allah they would have found therein much incongruity therein.”
allah’s Criterion of authenticity koran 4:82
So,ANY errors or incongruities in the koran imply IMPERFECTION which would imply allah is IMPERFECT and so his word is IMPERFECT.
The koran is PERFECT since allah is PERFECT right?
let’s see if there are any INCONGRUITIES in the koran.
Here’s a few..
1)The Jews say “Ezra is the son of allah”{no they don’t.It’s not even in Judaism}k9:30
2)”Abraham was not a Jew” k3:67{Abraham is in the Genealogy of Jesus{Jew} matthew 1
and In John 4 v 22 says “It is from the Jews that salvation comes”
Of course Abraham was JEWISH
3)”WE bestowed on Jesus the Gospel” k5:46
WHEN did Jesus have the Gospel?Never:it came AFTER Jesus and yet alah tells us he gave it to Jesus.
4}Where did Jesus get the Gospel{dawa folk tell you koran 19:30 is Jesus Speaking “Lo! I am the slave of allah. He hath given me the scripture and appointed me a prophet”
It’s a TALKING INFANT as we see from the context v 23 and in v 29 when visitors come to see the BABY and ask “How can we talk to this kid in crib” indicating an OBVIOUS language barrier…which of course would exist with..a NEWBORN INFANT}
Now remember that allah’s criterion of k4:82 says that ANY incongruity shows the koran to be IMPERFECT implies allah is IMPERFECT..
Since allah’s koran and word is indeed MPERFECT..allah is not Perfect{which means allah is not God}
Thanks allah for showing us via your criterion!
{luciferian laughter..}
Can islamic devotees get the logic of this?
Ex-muslims probably have…an IMPERFECT book cannot be PERFECT can it?
Has this information been “blasphemous”:pointing out just some of the INCONGRUITIES
in allah’s “perfect” book?
May allah stamp on my foot with his ONE leg and tickle me with his TWO RIGHT HANDS

Orianna Fallaci’s prosecution was a surprise, and had she lived and the Italian government been serious would’ve put her in prison. Canan Kaftancioglu’s situation is different: the government is serious and by law she could be executed, but as a sop to its NATO “allies” they’ll just give her time in prison.

She is a very brave and principled woman, a real beacon in that benighted country.
We should all be concerned, because the way things are going in Western countries even non-violent, fact-based criticism of Islam may soon be almost impossible and may attract a custodial sentence.
Many years ago I was in Istanbul and went to visiit Hagia Sophia. Unlike some over-hyped places, this was no letdown. It is a uniquely wonderful place.
I sadly reflected on its past as the centre of a living Christian community and wondered about all the intricate ceremonies that had been performed in it over the course of its long history.
Now it is empty and barren, with large quotations from the Quran everywhere inside. I said a prayer for all those brave Christians who died defending it. They were true to the last and died with honour.

Not exactly favourable reporting from the CBC, just as could be expected. But at least the valid point of Islam being pure evil was publicly reported. Keep up the unusually good work, CBC. Interview all the people who know that Islam wants to slit their throats as much as you like.

Max can firmly maintain his support for his candidate partly because one of his other candidates, Dr. Salim Mansur (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salim_Mansur) is a harsh critic of the Muslim world and Muslim immigration into the West.

Yet another reason to oppose Turkey and Erdogan, who is an Islamist who wishes to impose a caliphate. President Trump’s decision to allow Turkey to slaughter the Kurds is the low point in his Presidency.
And don’t romanticize President Trump. He is doing a good job, but he is not free from error. No one is. Not even this generation’s Churchill is free from error.
Giacomo Latta says
Here is a hard truth. The Kurds, an ethnic group, when in a position to save Yezidis, Kurds but non-muslims, from certain death at the hands of ISIS, many ethnicities but all muslim, they did so. Thus, they put ethnicity ahead of religion. Forced to pick among Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Kurds and ISIS, we should be showing the Kurds the most tolerance.
Flavius Claudius Iulianus says
“[The Kurds]…put ethnicity ahead of religion.”
And that is the kernel of the matter. All Kurds know that their original religion was Yezidism. And their track record has shown them to be trustworthy. The de facto reality is that they administer and administer well, the region they control (controlled?).
Civilized Infidel says
The United States of America is not responsible for the protection of anyone other than citizens of the USA. If Kurds cant protect themselves they will be eliminated. The United Nations should purchase some property and build a new headquarters there.

Turkey is a Washington DC ally through NATO. As is said, you are who your friends are. I never want to hear another word coming out of DC stating, that’s not who we are. DC needs to take a moment to reflect and begin to understand just who they are. All pre 9-11 alliances are now suspect.
Walter Sieruk says
This is yet further proof that the only reason the Muslims nations, as Turkey have such an absurd thing as “blasphemy laws” enacted, in the first place, is because Islam is actually such a weak and fragile religion that is can’t hold up or stand up to criticism of any kind, no matter how mild that criticism might be.
In the light of criticism based on either the logic and reason Islam will collapse, this there is a need for “blasphemy laws” in Islamic countries.
