Interesting! Respect for human beings, eh? Like these passages?
“Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Book and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the most vile of created beings.” (Qur’an 98:6)
“Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allah are those who have disbelieved, and they will not believe.” (Qur’an 8:55)
“Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are ruthless against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves.” (Qur’an 48:29)
“O Prophet, fight against the disbelievers and the hypocrites and be harsh upon them.” (Qur’an 9:73)
“O you who have believed, fight those adjacent to you of the disbelievers and let them find in you harshness.” (Qur’an 9:123)
I thought Putin was shrewder than this.
“Islam and Orthodox Christianity Have the Same Values, Putin Says,” Moscow Times, November 22, 2019:
Orthodox Christianity and Islam are based on the same fundamental values, President Vladimir Putin said in an address to a religious conference in Kyrgyzstan.
The conference, titled “Orthodoxy and Islam — Religions of Peace,” aimed to promote interethnic and interreligious dialogue between Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
“Islam and Orthodox Christianity, just like other world religions, are based on fundamental humanistic values that are of enduring importance — on mercy and love for one’s near, justice and respect for human beings,” the state-run TASS news agency quoted Putin as saying Thursday….
ntesdorf says
That would be the same sort of ‘fundamental humanistic values — respect for human beings’ that was found in Communism too then?
SKA says
Most likely.
Putin, like Machiavelli’s Prince, is playing an outward respect for religion to win trust etc. But I think his real g-d is Russian nationalism and he plays these games to keep both his Muslim and Christian subjects docile.
mortimer says
Putin is reading a speech someone wrote for political purposes.
In reality, Islam is extremely intolerant and its punishments and cruelties to humans and animals, and attitude towards the arts and learning in general are not ‘humanistic’ at all.
A perfect example of Islam’s barbarity is the passage of K. 4. 23-24 which decrees genocidal rape of married captives. That’s genocidal rape … and Allah commands it.
Anyone who thinks that the Koran is ‘humanistic’ has not read it or is lying about the Koran.
No modern, civilized person could endorse the genocidal RAPE OF MARRIED CAPTIVES supposedly DECREED BY ALLAH THE CREATOR in K.4.23-24? This is a war crime and crime against humanity.
HOW CAN ALLAH DECREE THAT HIS FOLLOWERS SHOULD COMMIT THE CRIME OF GENOCIDAL RAPE?
What is the moral justification for KAFIR sex slaves? Are Muslims and is Putin FOR or AGAINST the sex slave Sunna of Mohammed and his companions?
Islam clearly rejects moral philosophy because it is obscurantist and has no consistent ethical teaching. What is inconsistent cannot be moral. Therefore, Islam is amoral and opportunistic. Why would anyone adhere to this amoral Death Cult that commands war crimes and hideously evil crimes against women? How can Putin endorse this? He’s reading a speech someone else wrote.
Koran 4.24 “And all married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) WHAT (neuter) your RIGHT HANDS POSSESS. It is a decree of Allah for you.”
Westman says
Like Tip O’Neil said, “it’s all politics”. There isn’t a re-elected politician that hasn’t lied for to appease some group.
Putin, with a KGB background, is expected to be honest and rile a Muslim hornet’s nest? It’s what he does, like rubbing out reporters, that counts, not what propaganda he speaks.

Infidel says
President Hafez Assad – the current president’s father – was a monster – doing his routine massacres, sponsoring terrorism abroad, particularly in Lebanon, and making Syria stand out as a regional troublemaker, whether it was backing Iran in the Iran-Iraq war in the 80s, trying to annex Lebanon by making Syrian occupation permanent, or harboring Hamas and being headquarters to Islamic Jihad.
Bashar, the current president, had no such ambitions and started off as a reformer. Yeah, that slowed down over time, but in 2011, when the Arab Spring started, the Saudis and Qataris tried to offset the fall of Mubarak and Gaddafi by encouraging an Arab Spring in Syria. Unfortunately, here, the result of such a revolution would have been a slaughter of Alawites and Christians, as was actually seen during the war. So that sort of a rebellion just provoked the worst in the Alawites as they were fighting tooth and nail, and initially lost much of the country until Russia intervened on their side.
An al-Bawaba analysis of the situation then suggested that Israel preferred the devil it knew to the one it didn’t – the Free Syrian Army and so on. The only time Israel attacked Syria during this war was recently, when Iran started trying to establish military bases in Syria, and Israel told Putin point blank that it wouldn’t be tolerated.
Also, the 2 chemical attacks that were alleged to have been done by Assad defied common sense. On both those occasions, he had the upper hand: the first time, the US announced that it would no longer seek regime change in Damascus, so it would be counter-productive of the Baath regime to celebrate by launching a chemical attack. The second time was when Trump announced that the US would be withdrawing forces. There are questions about the OEPD’s conclusions that it was launched from air, and evidence that it was launched from the ground, which would be a setup to incriminate the regime

If islam were equivalent to Christianity, then moslims and others wouldn’t have to keep saying it…nor would they have to keep claiming that Christians are bloodthirsty and using swords to force conversion.
If one believes this creature, one will believe that putin is an humble soul with no ambition other than to ride a horse across the land, listening to the birds sing.
If one believes that, one is believing a lie and will bring harm to oneself and others. islam is demonic. There is no benefit to humans from islam…no virtue, no value, no good…only evil, harm, danger, as islam is a demonic plague.
Christianity on the other hand, is the polar opposite as it comes from God, our Heavenly Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ. They speak Truth, teach men to “benefit” themselves, to produce good ‘fruit’ and raise children to “Do to others what” they wish to be done. to themselves.. among so many other virtuous things.

Readers of Robert Spencer or Bill Warner or Mark Steyn or Douglas Murray among many others would not agree with this at all. If there were such attitudes of respect and justice for human beings in Islam, then there would be no difference between the believers and non-believers, women and men in the legal and moral systems of Islam. In Islam the bliever is above the non-believer, men over women and children. So of course this can only be reverse psychology. One says people are not like they are in hopes of motivating them to be the way we want them to be.

Chinese Communists are using high tech to turn China into one massive totalitarian prison for the mind and body. Trust me you don’t want to know the monstrous things that government has done and is doing daily. The only thing that keeps them from going as far as North Korea in tyrannizing and murdering their own people is that China wants to be rich, and totalitarianism taken too far makes people dirt poor and starves them. Because people in mainland China have been unfree for so long, many there are to a large extent insensible of the social slavery their government imposes on them. People can get so accustomed to one or another form of slavery that they no longer notice that they are not free. Accordingly they tend to reject any measures that would set them free. To forbid freedom of speech is to straitjacket the mind of the nation and make it far more stupid than it need be. It’s a bit like tying one’s arms behind one’s back before going to apprehend a killer. Idiotic. And yet so many nations reject free speech. Or rather, not so much the nations reject it, but their rulers do.

As bad as Pope Francis is in his never ending apologia for Islam, Putin is even worse because he has far more power than Francis and still he continues to make excuses aplenty for the worst religion of all time.
And please, no explanations exculpating Putin to the effect that he is dealing with the reality that some 15% of Russia is Muslim. Bad is bad and excusing evil, which Islam certainly is, serves at best as a tactical measure, NEVER a long term optimal strategic one.
Which in microcosm sums up Putin, to wit, he is for Russia tactically shrewd but he is a strategic disaster (and many times over and not just related to Islam) for his country. If truth prevails, itself by no means a given, this should be Putin’s legacy. He is, after all, so “deserving” of this epitaph.

I disagree. Putin is trying to keep his people safe from Muslims. The Pope, who should have some expertise with religion, is doing nothing to keep his flock safe and is elevating the evil conquest ideology of Islam to the same status as a religion as the one founded by Christ when he should be pointing out that Islam doesn’t even come close to being a legitimate religion.
Wellington says
I guess praising the construction of the biggest mosque in Moscow is all part of the “safe approach,” ditto for allowing Sharia in Chechnya and working closely with the Iranian regime on weaponry.
gravenimage says
Terry, how is building Muslims the biggest mega-Mosque in Europe keeping Russians safe from Muslims? How is allowing a Shari’ah state to exist on Russian soil protecting Russians from Muslims?
I’m afraid that appeasing Muslims does *nothing* to protect Russians from Muslims. Surely you are aware of all the Jihad terror attacks in Russia?
gravenimage says
I had not read Wellington’s post above before posting my own comment.
Lilith Wept says
Appeasing islam only shows Islam that you are weak…and Islam is quick to exploit all perceived weakness.
This is what they are doing in the West right now …exploiting western tolerance , and the idea that all religions are to be respected , tolerated and are equal. This is what we have a problem in the West with moslems and all the barbarism they bring with them where ever they go.
Historically the only thing islam respects is strength, strength that is strong enough to conquer them…..defeat their military, or push back hard and make them hurt.
Infidel says
A bit of a history lesson here. Why did Russia conquer Turkistan in the 19th century, thereby triggering the ‘Great Game’ b/w Britain and Russia? Reason was that Kazakh bandits on the borders of Siberia would raid their territory and take Russian citizens as slaves. The Romanovs saw that as a long term threat and so started a campaign to wipe out that threat. It wasn’t the British claim that the Russians wanted a warm water coastline on the Arabian Sea.
So they fought a tough war w/ the Turkic kingdoms, such as the Khanates of Buqhara and Khiva, and ended up conquering them. Once they had a border w/ Afghanistan, the Brits got nervous and started their great elaborate plots to keep Afghanistan and Iran from falling to the Russians.
So if Putin really thinks that Islam is similar to Orthodox Christianity in any way, it doesn’t say much for him as an ex-KGB agent. KGB agents were supposed to be paranoid about everything, and him not being paranoid about Islam, after it was one of the leading causes in the Soviet defeat in the Afghan war and ergo, the subsequent breakup of his beloved USSR, doesn’t reflect well on him, even from a KGB point of view, let alone Russian nationalism.
Flavius Claudius Iulianus says
As you know, Infidel, I have frequently defended Putin on the JW comment board. Unfortunately, I find myself unable to continue this support. When Putin signed on to the recent law that prohibits criticism of the Russian government and its officials (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/mar/06/russian-parliament-outlaws-online-disrespect) I found that I could no longer defend him. He was committing the same old errors that Russian leaders/tyrants have repeated over and over again over the centuries.
There is no doubt that Putin almost single-handedly saved Russia from economic and cultural ruin at the hands of the oligarchs and other foreign carpetbaggers. But I have often scratched my head at some of his pronouncement, actions and decisions. (But we are talking about a person who is both a devout Orthodox Christian and a former KGB officer. Even if you take into account that the Eastern Rites have less of a caritas essence in them, you cannot explain this highly contradictory past/position.) During the World Cup, Russia was showcased as this recovering, progressive society; a new candidate for entry into the Western World. The visiting world was wowed by this new, seemingly liberalized, Russia. With one hand Putin stages this sporting extravaganza and then with the other he turns back the clock to a police state.
Again, I can no longer support him. Although his policies are consistent (and they did save Russia from the pillaging that the Ukraine had to endure), the seemly contradictory contributing motivations for those policies is a mystery to me.
Infidel says
Flavious
My defense on this board, and elsewhere, such as Breitbart, has been of Russia, not Putin. I don’t care too much about Putin, and have always been ambivalent about him – supporting him in the war against the Chechens, but opposing him when he had the Ukrainian presidential candidate poisoned, as well as Sergei Skripal. Nor am I a fan of his warming up to Erdogan or Mahmoud Abbas.
However, I have been an advocate of better ties w/ Russia for geopolitical reasons. For one, like Nixon did in 1975 but in reverse, I’d like the US to wean Russia away from China and into the US orbit, so that China has a major adversary across the Amur. Also, as the impeachment hearings showed, the State Department never changed its policy on Moscow despite the fall of the Soviet Union: that needs to change so that Russians don’t feel constantly under threat from the West. The reason they occupied Crimea was that the West was trying to get Ukraine into NATO, which would have turned Sevastopol from the headquarters of the Black Sea fleet into a NATO base. We need to update policies when facts on the grounds change, rather than let inertia dictate it all
Flavius Claudius Iulianus says
There is nothing in this, your comment, that I disagree with (except the poisonings; there is still little evidence to implicate Putin and much to exculpate him).
I was commenting on Putin because this news item was about Putin. I replied to your comment as a discussion pivot because I know that we often agree on topics related to Russia and its neighbours.

Name an evil regime and you’ll find Russia supporting it. Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, Syria, Turkey, N. Korea, China. Putin regards U.S. as his main enemy, because of what we stand for, freedom, democracy, etc.which are a threat to his rule. China poses no such threat, to say the least.
Flavius Claudius Iulianus says
Gamzu … such nonsense … All three of your talking points are demonstrably false.
Infidel says
Gamzu, China is right now the world’s second most powerful superpower due to the combination of both a solid economy (even though that’s started slipping this year due to the trade war w/ the US) and military. Anybody who thinks that Russo-Chinese relations are that of equals is living in a fantasy: Beijing owns Putin, who’d be unable to do anything if any rift ever occurred (like the split b/w Krushchev & Mao during the Cold War). Russia’s economy is the size of Italy’s, and their population has been shrinking, much like the West, but much unlike China or the Islamic world.
I’m no fan of Putin, as I pointed out above, but the reason he considers the US an enemy is b’cos the US has acted as one throughout the post Cold War – even during the Yeltsin years, when Russia had nothing going on in Georgia or Ukraine. First, there was NATO ganging up on Russia’s ally Serbia, but unlike 1914, Russia didn’t respond by declaring war when Serbia was attacked. That left NATO w/ the impression that Russia would do nothing to defend its friends – or itself. Then there was Western criticism of the Russian war in Chechnya, which was waging a jihad against Moscow. And after 9/11, after Uzbekistan gave the US 2 military bases to launch forwarding operations in Afghanistan, the US criticized Tashkent for the way they curbed an Islamic revolt in Andijon, including meeting w/ Jihadist leaders in Tashkent. That infuriated the Karimov regime and they withdrew those bases from the US military.
I’m usually never a blame America first, and during the Cold War, was solidly anti-Communist. However, I refuse to join Reagan-era ideologues in thinking that Russia is a mere continuation of the Soviet Union. It wasn’t – not b/w 1992 and 2000 under Yeltsin, and even under Putin, Russia has turned rogue mainly b’cos the dismantling of the Warsaw Pact wasn’t accompanied by either redefining NATO’s mission statement nor disbanding NATO.
As a geopolitical power, Russia today is less influential than Turkey, which is a country we should be looking at as the leading anti-US power, after China. Due to its alliances both w/ Turkic comrades, like Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, as well as Islamic countries not in the Arab camp, like Qatar, Somalia, Sudan and Pakistan

Putin: “Islam and Orthodox Christianity are based on fundamental humanistic values — respect for human beings”
I believe many leaders in this world think that if they flatter islam then it will become what we wish it was, tolerant, intelligent, and a lot less violent. But it’s a basic fact of life that if you kowtow to bullies it only gets worse. There’s nothing of “humanistic value” in the bigotry and hatred of islam, their god is a confirmed psychopathic killer and intolerant hater. Civilized people don’t tolerate humans that murder for religious bigotry, I don’t understand why so many tolerate a religion that teaches murder for religious bigotry. If the terrorists are wrong then so must the religion that teaches it be wrong. It’s a crazy lie to say that islam is based on humanistic values, there’s no excuse for not knowing the bloody truth about islam in this internet day and age. I believe it’s wrong to speak so highly of a creed that explicitly declares murder and terror for religious bigotry as godly truth. At best one might say that islam contains some good traits, but only in the same way serial killer Jeffrey dahmer may have possessed some good traits too. It’s dangerously fallacious to only cite the good in something when the bad is so SO much worse.
Muslims have manifested a demon into our midst with their devotion and support for islam’s bad ideas. It doesn’t matter that allah may not actually exist in reality, the result is still the same when muslims kill and terrorize and destroy as if it did. Millions have been murdered and suffered for islam’s insane and inhumane doctrines of bigoted ignorance and hate, and when a world leader declares such doctrines to be of “humanistic value” then a crime against humanity is happening. It’s a crime because it obfuscates life saving facts, facts that Mr Spencer and other truth tellers speak out of true humanistic concern. Putin is wrong, and so is every other leader and person that declares islam to be humane and good for humanity. I believe it’s wrong to praise the KKK merely because its members conduct fun picnics and tasty barbecues; and likewise it’s wrong to praise islam as “humane” when the reality is that islam has caused more murder, war, and crime than any other ideology in history.
If the world does not stand up against the madness of islam then we too will become “mad.” We will be forced to relinquish those principles and aspirations within our own societies that we know are superior to islam, like free speech, equality, and religious freedom without murderous compulsion. We are so much better than what dumbbell islam has to offer, let’s not forsake ourselves and future generations by acting cowardly for the truth.

Ofcourse Putin try to hold his country together.I read in some decades the Army will be 50% Muslim!Putin can only pray that the Christs and Buddhists became more Kids(its mire than in the 90s now)and Muslims fewer.
Also the same goes for Turkey, but there 50% will be Kurds!Turks became less than 2 Kids in Turkey! In West Europe they get more…
Putin send Chechens to Syria to fight against ISIS etc.-but for this he must allow the Chechen President to do what he want in his Area.

Mark Steyn had a video about Turkey’s demographic issue. It’s not that Turkey is shrinking: it’s that Kemalist Turks are having less than 2 kids, being as they are like Europe, while irredentalist Turks living in internal Anatolia are having more kids. Result being the rise of Erdogan.
The Kurds in Turkey would just like to secede, and at any rate, are just there in the south-eastern part of the country
