“Luxembourg’s progressive cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich echoed a Christmas appeal for migrants by Pope Francis, decrying the exploitation of migrants in Greece and the shameful inaction of Europeans to help. Speaking at the cathedral in Luxembourg City, Cardinal Hollerich chastised his fellow Europeans for not coming to the aid of those living in refugee camps on the Greek island of Lesbos, which he personally visited last May at the pope’s behest.”
Progressive leaders of all stripes, in the Catholic Church also, have failed to recognize that not all migrants in the world are the same, just as not all people are the same. This is the reason we teach our children to be careful about strangers and to “discriminate” between a murderer and law-abiding citizen. Progressives instead lump all migrants, refugees and immigrants in the same group. They willfully ignore evidence which includes jihad attacks, abuses against infidels and other threats to national security that arise from reckless immigration policies. In the meantime, the loudest pro-open door migration voices — especially the Pope — are themselves protected by barriers and security.
There is no ill-treatment of migrants that warrants Cardinal Hollerich’s castigation of Europeans and charge that they should be “fiercely ashamed” regarding their treatment of migrants. Hollerich himself should be fiercely ashamed for not prioritizing Christians who are suffering genocide at the hands of Islamic supremacists, along with other abused religious minorities. There is big money for the Church in the migrant business — enough to encourage the neglect of the safety of the faithful.
Some sensible voices, by contrast:
- The Dalai Lama has declared that” “Europe is for Europeans….with too many Muslim migrants, the continent could become ‘Muslim’ or ‘African’….“Only a ‘limited number’ of migrants should be permitted to reside in Europe.” But he does not believe in abandoning the needy, as he goes on to instruct: “Receive them, help them, educate them, but ultimately they should develop their own country….I think Europe belongs to the Europe.”
- As former head of the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission, Trevor Phillips “was very much part of that elite. He commissioned the 1997 Runnymede report that popularised the word ‘Islamophobia.’” But Phillips eventually concluded: “‘Everyone who has pinned their hopes on the rise of reforming and liberal British Muslim voices are in for a disappointment’….Phillips’s documentary professed to find surprising: that large numbers of Muslims don’t want to integrate, that their views aren’t remotely enlightened, and that more than a few of them sympathise with terrorism. It’s only the establishment elite that has ever pretended otherwise.” Stats exposed the following:
“52 per cent of Britain’s three million Muslims think homosexuality should be illegal; 39 per cent think a woman should always obey her husband; 18 per cent sympathise with people who take part in violence against those who mock the Prophet; 4 per cent — that equates to about 100,000 Muslims — have ‘sympathy for people who take part in suicide bombing to fight injustice’. Oh, and if any of them knew someone was involved in supporting terrorism in Syria, just one in three would report it to the police.”
Not everyone in the Catholic Church is a blind guide, as Jihad Watch reported back in April:
- “In direct contradiction to his boss, the Pope of Islam, Cardinal Robert Sarah has issued a warning about Muslim migration and the subsequent destruction of open-door Europe. Sarah declared that ‘it is a false exegesis [interpretation of scriptural text] to use the Word of God to promote migration. God never wanted these rifts.’ This is exactly what Pope Francis has been doing for quite some time, acting as a blind guide in preaching that it is un-Christian to oppose mass Muslim migration into Europe. Meanwhile, the Vatican remains walled up, and the pope remains surrounded by security.”
There are far too many seemingly pious Progressives such as Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, who “echoed a Christmas appeal for migrants by Pope Francis” — leading the flock astray and putting law-abiding citizens (which of course includes responsible immigrants) in danger.
“Cardinal: Europeans Should Be ‘Fiercely Ashamed’ for Treatment of Migrants,” by Thomas D. Williams, Breitbart, December 27, 2019:
Luxembourg’s progressive cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich echoed a Christmas appeal for migrants by Pope Francis, decrying the exploitation of migrants in Greece and the shameful inaction of Europeans to help.
Speaking at the cathedral in Luxembourg City, Cardinal Hollerich chastised his fellow Europeans for not coming to the aid of those living in refugee camps on the Greek island of Lesbos, which he personally visited last May at the pope’s behest.
“There are definitely children there that will vanish and be forced into child prostitution,” said the Jesuit cardinal, who is the president of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE). “There are children there who will be taught to steal. Others will be raped and assaulted. This is gruesome.”
“This is not happening far from Luxembourg in some place where we cannot help,” he continued. “This is happening in Greece — in Europe and in the European Union. We must be fiercely ashamed that we have not done anything to help.”
Earlier this week, the cardinal expressed his opinion that the political inaction on the Mediterranean refugee crisis is due to “fear of right-wing parties.”
“I find it outrageous that we’re letting people drown in the Mediterranean; that our hearts have become so hard; that politics no longer dares to act for fear of right-wing parties,” Hollerich told RTL Radio.
In his Christmas diatribe on behalf of migrants, the cardinal brought in another topic dear to the pontiff’s heart — climate change — suggesting that many of those migrating are being forced out of their countries by global warming.
The first to suffer the effects of climate change are the less fortunate people in third-world countries, the cardinal said, namely, those fleeing for Europe…..

Why doesn’t the Vatican open its doors to the immigrants?
mortimer says
The pope invited some migrants to the Vatican. We don’t know how that worked out.
But here’s the thing: Unlike the pope, we ordinary people don’t have dozens of Swiss Guards and many other security guards watching over us 24 hours a day.
The cardinal obviously is uninformed about the CORE TEACHINGS of Islam … hatred of and segregation from the kafir and supremacist warfare against the kafir.
Muslims should stay in their own Islamic Berzerkistans and make jihad on one another. Peaceful, democratic Western countries gain nothing from having jihadist-immigrants who attack virtually everything in the West in order to destabilize it.

The good Cardinal should visit a refugee camp in that outfit unescorted or protected by local police or any body guards as he pitches love and brotherhood we are all of the same God stuff to the mob there. Do these capitulating fools think they may get new powers and renew the authority of the Church amongst their ever God denying flocks with help from these demented devotees from Islam? Do they feel they have hordes of new potential converts? Because surely they cannot believe by compromising their own beliefs to this enemy Islam it will provide them personally with any grace as Christians before the God they profess.

Many thoughtful points raised by Christine Douglass-Williams. The progressive cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich should read this article. He is an ideologue without any real knowledge of Islam’s supremacist teachings.
Hollerich is as blind as a bat … Islam’s history of conquest shows it is at war with Christianity. Islam has assassinated thousands of the church’s bishops.

Seriously, I would like to see a real revival of Christianity. I pray for the conversion of the nations (it’s covered under the petition “Thy Kingdom Come”, including Islamic ones. I’d like to see widespread repentance of the idolatries that too many churches have accepted.
This would, paradoxically, both heighten a sense of difference with Islam while fostering compassion for those misled by the denial that God became incarnate as a man and worked the atonement needed to cleanse us from our sins. It would also give us the boldness to confess and witness before men, including Muslims. This revival would also underscore that the promised Comforter of the Upper Room Discourse in John (chs. 13-16) is not a later prophet, as claimed by Islamic apologists, but the Holy Spirit of God Himself. Such a revival would also give courage that we would be able to confront the follies that made the Islamic penetration of the West possible.

The Cardinal should be fiercely ashamed for being ignorant, stupid, negligent, and callous about what has happened and continues to happen to Christians in Muslim-majority lands and for supporting mass Muslim immigration into non-Muslim lands. Or should I say useful idiot.

Spot on, Eduardo.
CogitoErgoSum says
Wait! What? Children in migrant camps are raped, assaulted, abused and taught to steal? Who is doing this? The adult migrants in the camps? It appears to me the Cardinal needs to start focusing his attention on bringing the words of Christ to those who really need it most — the migrants themselves. But no, he berates the Europeans because he knows they are NOT the ones who will attack and kill him if he says some things they do not like. Oh yes, it’s better not to offend the migrants or there WILL be a price to pay.
katemul says
But, haven’t you heard that Pope Francis has declared that we Catholics shouldn’t proselytize. Most of us think that he doesn’t want us telling the Good News about Jesus.
When I converted from Southern Baptist to Roman Catholic, the lack of evangelization was and is one of my sorrows. Now our leader wants even less.
I respect the office, but pray daily that the Church will be not damaged by him.
CogitoErgoSum says
Yes, I have heard. This Pope who professes to care so much about the well-being of the poor and hungry holds back from them the food they need most. Christ said, “My flesh is real food and My blood is real drink. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.”
This Pope errs gravely through his failure to bring the body and blood of Christ to all the people of the world. Instead, Francis leads people to the worship of false gods and is derelict in his most sacred duty to the one true God.
GreekEmpress says
Great comments CogitoErgoSum and Katemul.
As an American of Greek descent, I am offended by Cardinal Hollerich’s comments of immigrants being exploited in Greece. Greece is being overrun by migrants and it is a country that can hardly take care of its own. Erdogan has turned the refugee spigot on again, and the estimated number of new arrivals in 2020 is staggering.
As an Eastern Rite Catholic, I’m offended by the skewed interpretation of the Gospel put forward by Pope Francis and some of the Cardinals and Bishops.
As the author of “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Immigration” put it: Jesus said “Blessed are the poor”—-not “Blessed are the poor because I can use them as a weapon against the more fortunate.”
Sorry, had to vent a little.

Kepha says
Pope Frankie, more than any other Pontiff in my time, convinces me that the Reformation was necessary and a genuine movement of God’s Spirit in the history of Christendom. Indeed, it is people like our Luxembourgisch prelate and Pope Frankie, along with way too many “mainstream” Protestants, show how the West in general has lost both its collective mind and, as you put it, 外卵。If I am not sparing of my criticism of the major Protestant bodies, it is because they have betrayed the best insights of the Reformation.
Both the Papacy and modern liberalism have fostered a very strong faith in institutions, those repeated behaviors that structure our public lives. Hence, the belief that if only something like the UN had real power, we’d have universal peace; or, the next round of progressive reform will give us a truly uncorrupt government. Faith in this possibility has replaced a faith in God for far too many people. It is also why secular liberals and socialists often seem to have a misplaced hope that a Pope like Frankie will turn around not only Roman Catholicism, but all of Christendom, to make it something more amenable to the liberal and socialist visions (hopefully, in Leftist eyes, to give itself a decent burial). But it is also the case that this faith in institutions builds institutions that sooner or later show their futility–especially when the faith that once animated and jutified their existence is gone.
In contrast, the Reformation looked to a Christ greater than the earthly institution, who through his Word and Spirit is able to remake those who have faith in him. The loss of this is why so many of our ostensibly Christian churches seem to be empty, powerless shells, ready to crumble in capitulation to a new Islamic invasion.
eduardo odraude says

Christine Douglass-Williams hits it on the head there.
What she points out in that sentence is similar to a problem in the US, where the left often refuses to notice any difference between legal and illegal immigration, and accuses anyone who is against the illegal kind of being against both kinds.

I think he should say to Muslims that Islam should be “fiercely ashamed” of having a rotten, hate-filled attitude to non-Muslims for the entire 1400 years of existence and should be ashamed of all the atrocities it has committed during that history. He should tell Muslims to change their ways and leave Islam.

I agree with gravenimage that that is a terrific quote, James. I often think when I hear these very soft church leaders saying that Christians need to be like complete doormats and just let huge numbers of hate-filled Muslims into their countries, that Christianity is opposed to suicide and that seems to be almost what these types of church leaders are calling for, or, as Tucker Carlson puts it, that we should be destroyed by suicidally letting Muslims in. But I notice that very Catholic countries such as Poland and Hungary aren’t buying this rubbish from these types of church leaders and are being very tough on the issue of letting the Muslim invaders in. So I think plenty of Catholics see it as foolish, self-destructive drivel from these types of church leaders, with the Pope being one of the main clowns amongst the church leaders who appear to know nothing about Islam at all. These church leaders really need to talk to someone like Robert Spencer and read his books.

Yes, James, I’m no expert on Islam myself, but I am appalled by the total lack of knowledge about Islam’s violent nature that the Pope and these other church leaders display, because Islam (which is murdering Christians throughout the world, especially in Africa) is a very important issue for Christian leaders to understand and deal with. The Pope and other church leaders seem to inhabit a complete fantasy land when it comes to Islam.

Wonderful exchange, James and Tim.
You also often hear *Muslims* telling Christians that they are not real Christians if they do *anything* at all to defend against the savagery of Islam–even by peacefully exposing it, as Robert Spencer does.
A very Happy New Year to you both!
tim gallagher says
Thanks, gravenimage. Yeah, I guess Muslims would love it if we were all complete pacifists who could be slaughtered, raped, etc, without any resistance. I think you often make the point (and other commenters here at Jihad Watch) that we are, after all, second class, barely human beings from the Muslims point of view, and therefore it seems to me that the Muslim attitude is, How dare these people resist our treating them like complete garbage. Too many Christians do seem to be pacifists. I’m a Christian (not that good a Christian, no doubt) but I think I would have to be described as the type of person who I think I have heard described as a “muscular” Christian. I believe very strongly in our western civilisation and our way of life and values, so I can’t cop Islam at all, (I can’t find any good in it) and would never make compromises with its revolting values. Some of the Christian leaders who fought Islam (as described in Robert Spencer’s “History of Jihad” are more my type of Christian leader. Some of current day ones are pathetic. Happy New Year to you.

The Left, who claim to care about these issues, make no effort to teach their values to Muslims. You can’t have it both ways – on the one hand claiming to care about women’s rights, violence, religious tolerance, etc – and on the other hand allowing your country to literally be filled with those who violently violate your values, and making no effort to teach your values to those same people.
In truth, the Left don’t really care about women, religious tolerance, etc. The only thing they care about in this situation is dismantling the West, so as to make room for a Communist dictatorship. That is the key reason why Muslims are at the top of the Left’s official Victims List – because Muslims are dismantling the West.

Criticism of Muslims, Jews, Christians and any other group, from the Vatican to the Knesset, from Moscow to Tehran, should be unfettered by law, but also accurate, rational, and decent,
As secularism sucks the theology out of Christianity all that seems left is a social parody of self-abnegating cosmopolitanism, based on “turn the other check” and “resist not evil”; i.e. liberalism, the ideology of western suicide (James Burnham). We had a problem with Communism; we have a bigger one with Islam.
Kepha says
Speaking as someone who accepts the classical Christian Reformed Confessions, I agree that there should be freedom to criticize all religions, incuding my own. One reason for this is that the prophets and apostles who gave us the Christian Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were themselves empowered by the Spirit of God to be strong, effective critics of their own cultures and societies. The Ninth Commandment, that we bear no false witness against a neighbor (a sin with which I have struggled much) is itself a command that our criticism be accurate, rational, decent, and in accordance with justice.
Secularism has indeed “sucked the theology out of Christianity”; but not for me. Secular liberalism is the ideology of Western suicide because it has turned us from the Christian God to a series of miserable little idols, as Carl Sandburg’s poem “The Hammer” so pointedly describes (and Sandburg himself wholeheartedly embraced the secularizing ideology).
