My latest in PJ Media:
The pet projects of the left never die; they just get put on the back burner until the media looks the other way. One of the most notorious of those projects, a huge mosque at Ground Zero that would inevitably be regarded in the Islamic world as a triumphal mosque celebrating the 9/11 attacks, is now back in the works in lower Manhattan. For years it looked as if this project was dead. It wasn’t. It was just waiting for the massive number of Americans who opposed it to forget about the whole thing.
Pamela Geller, who defeated the Ground Zero Mosque initiative the first time around, broke the news Monday: “The news was buried under two dense paragraphs and five large photos in an article in New York YIMBY about a different project: ‘Construction has also yet to begin on 51 Park Place, which is slated to become a 71-foot-tall, 16,000-square-foot Islamic cultural center.’”
Wait a minute. That “Islamic cultural center” at Ground Zero was supposed to have been built years ago. The New York Post told us in December 2012 that “the Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero…opened with great fanfare a year ago.” You missed that? That’s because it didn’t actually happen. The media was hyping a couple of minor events at a tiny, unmarked mosque in a building that had been extensively damaged in the 9/11 attacks so as to save face after Geller’s rallies, which I helped out on, marshaled public opinion to beat the 16-story mega-mosque project.
But one thing that conservatives could learn from the Left is never to give up, ever, under any circumstances. That “Islamic cultural center” is set to be built now, even if construction is stalled for the moment.
It’s only set to be three stories high, thirteen fewer than originally planned, but it’s likely that the shifty developer behind the project, Sharif El-Gamal, still hopes it will become, as he once boasted about the larger project, “the most famous community center in the whole world.” Back in those days, El-Gamal was hardly the only one boasting: everyone from then-New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to Barack Obama himself hailed the Ground Zero Mosque as an emblem of national healing.
Sure. Just like a shrine to state Shinto and the Japanese Empire would be an emblem of healing at Pearl Harbor.
There is much more. Read the rest here.

Good one Mr. Spencer. I don’t think the victims’ relatives or the rest of America needs this salt in our 9/11 wound. 9/11 happened because the terrorists were acting on behalf of islam’s god, allah, a god that explicitly calls for violence and murder against non-muslims. There could be no greater insult to America and those victims than allowing muslims to build a monument to that same god. It’s the height of crassness and insensitivity, wrapped up in the supremacist longings of a violent religion and people. No thanks, we can do better than that as a nation and people. After all, we have hearts and we care about those who are murdered for no good reason.

I know this speech by Wilders doesn’t pertain specifically to the mosque, but it’s so inspiring that I think it fits perfectly. I love the man, he’s one of the great ones up there with Spencer, two men who set the example for dedication to truth and commonsense morality for all.

In this spirit of ‘healing’ will Muslims praying at this “Community Center” be instructed to efrain from reciting the Fatihah, with its kuffar-cursing verses? Will non-Muslim visitors be assured by Sharif El-Gamal himself that no one will make any favorable references in that Center to any of the 109 verses that command Believers to engage in violent Jihad? Perhaps a list of a dozen such verses should be delivered to him, as well as posted around the site, under the youth-wants-to-know title “Sharif El-Gamal, what do you have to say about these verses?” That will disturb his equanimity sufficiently — he would understand that he’s asking for trouble — to make him reconsider.

Eminently true, gravenimage, but which verity will still be lost on a shitload of still willfully ignorant kuffaars (kafirs). The immensely foolish former Mayor of NYC, one Bloomberg, leads the list here and right behind him is the even more clueless current Mayor of NYC, de Blasio. I put Bloomberg over de Blasio, both silly human beings many times over, for the sole reason that Bloomberg has a lot more money than does de Blasio and money talks—even when it is promoting ridiculous rot.

But don’t we have the Freedom Tower on Ground Zero? How would a mosque get built there – w/o demolishing the Freedom Tower one way or another?
gravenimage says
Infidel, the Freedom Tower stand on the site of the Twin Towers–but Ground Zero was larger than that.
Building 7 in the World Trade Center complex also fell on 9/11 due to the weight of debris on its roof.
The Burlington Coat Factory outlet was on a street right around the corner from the World Trade Center. The landing gear from one of the jets fell though the building, damaging it so severely that it never reopened. This is the building that Muslims have been using as a Mosque.
They plan to erect a massive seven-story victory Mosque here, but have not been able to get the permits. This is indeed a part of Ground Zero.

The US has not learned …even after war is declared on 9/11 when muslim terrorists killed nearly 3000 people from many countries! Even that was not enough to make people understand what they are dealing with.
It really is mind boggling how dumb the american masses are. Pakistan, (and very soon Iran) a muslim country with nuclear weapons…what could possibly go wrong?

there’s a reason for that denseness, Polit; the hard-core left has run the american education system from pre-K to post-doctorated for at least 30 years. critical thinking isn’t taught in “school,” and leftist “ideals” are taught in its place. it’s hard *not* to come out of the system at *any* level not being at least nominally leftist. most graduates are probably unable to describe the core “values” they have learned, so they look to the “smart people” (usually hard-core leftist university types) for what to think and do. even if things don’t make much sense, there is currently little, if any, effect upon the lives of nominal leftists, so they don’t really have to think about any of it. and when it *does* matter that sharia law must be obeyed, in contravention of the constitution, it will be too late.
education is the answer, of course, but it is probably far too late to get results by this late date. i still attempt to open the eyes of leftists i meet, but i’m certain that most think i’m some kind of nazi or kluxer, thanks to the lying legacy media. nevertheless, even one person successfully exposed to and turned towards the truth is worth the effort. civilization may very well collapse (although it may also survive, but only in a radically-changed world in which many current countries cease to exist), but that one person may be the cause of the rise of civilization some centuries in the future, much as the kingdom of asturias eventually gave rise to the reconquista. the ummah may win this one, but once they control an area, they eventually devolve into fighting one another. it’s what thugs and gang-bangers do, so even the worst loss to the thugs will eventually be undone if some small area is safe for non-muslims.
Agostino Armo Pellegrini says
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to Barack Obama himself hailed the Ground Zero Mosque as an emblem of national healing.
Certain muslims want to portray this mosque as a foul medicine that we don’t want but makes us well again. In reality it’s like an elixir mixed with the same poison that made us sick. More islam is not a remedy for the violence in islam. Less islam is the answer, with more people speaking against its foul influence against civilized society. Islam doesn’t represent freedom and peaceful coexistence, it represents the oppressive and totalitarian suffering we see in every muslim nation. It’s the complete opposite of what America is about and meant to be. Let’s not deny a truth as big as the world. Islam is the same wherever it is, bigoted, intolerant, and prone to violence and murder. C’mon humanity, let’s get this this done. Islam has to go, for their sake and ours.
Terry Gain says
There is no legal way to make Islam go. Muslims who are in America legally have the legal rights of all Americans and are therefore entitled to stay. But there is a legal way to stop Muslims from coming. Alas, there is no willpower to do so. Americans have great respect for religions.
Agostino Armo Pellegrini says

Every time we confront and defeat an islamic intrusion we make it “go,” whether it be in our schools, our politics, or our legal system. I’m sure you knew my intended meaning was about islam as an ideological threat and that I wasn’t merely referring to the right of muslims to physically stay. And “respect for religion” shouldn’t mean we have to destroy ourselves for an aggressive ideology just because some call it a “religion.” It’s not out of “respect” that the left is protecting islam, it’s because they see muslims as an ally for their own anti-West, anti-freedom agenda. True Americans also have great respect for religious freedom and free speech, and that should always take precedence over muslims’ demon cult of “infidel” murder that threatens them both. We can make islam “go” legally by confronting it wherever it rears its ugly head. It comes in, we reject its influence, and pow! it’s gone and we made it “go.” I hope that clears it up for you, thanks for responding.

I don’t know if I’d agree with “almost all,” but certainly too many. If these people truly respected religion then they’d understand the threat islam truly is to religious freedom and freedom in general. But some of these people are too dumb to see the truth, and others are too evil to admit the truth. Either way they are dangerous to our future as a free nation that values religious liberty and equality for all.
Wellington says
“Americans have great respect for religions.”
Generally and historically true, Terry, but not an absolute. Think Satanism, the ancient religions of Mesopotamia which are well referenced and denounced in the Old Testament, the Aztec and Carthaginian religions to the extent that some Americans know about them and which required human sacrifice, goofy Scientology, et al.
The way to most effectively combat Islam is not by denying it religious status but rather by accurately assessing it as malevolent, as many religions through man’s history have been. This is the optimal approach I would contend.
You know, we agree on Islam’s iniquity and that is a very good starting point. And remember, even assuming Islam is denied religious status in America (ain’t gonna’ happen) it would still be a protected belief system as Marxism and Nazism are per the First Amendment.
The focus should be, as I have always maintained, on proper characterization and not some abstract theory of what does or does not constitute a religion.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours. I do disagree with you on one very big point, but other that this “point” I don’t think we vary on much, though I am an invincibly ignorant agnostic—but I digress. Take care.

AP says
Islam can not be considered a religion unless you are a devil worshipper or a death cult lover.
Agostino Armo Pellegrini says
lol, so true. “We love death more than you love life” is a muslim credo that goes back to the 7th century, islam really is a death cult. It’s violent, hateful, murderous, and extols martyrdom for their demon. No wonder islam has killed tens of millions in history.
Wellington says
AP: For constitutional and legal purposes, Islam is a religion. Many religions over centuries and millennia could be described as evil or at least very screwy but they still have been religions.
BTW, I am not a devil worshiper or a death cult lover and so may I suggest you think about an expansion of those who assert that Islam is a religion. I am looking at this “matter” as the lawyer that I am, though I suppose this could make me even worse than a devil worshiper or a death cult lover.

I’m not sure I get you there. Yes, I know that islam is “legally” a religion, just like I know a terrorist-driven car that mows down people is still a car. But like that car it is being used for illicit and murderous purposes. So I describe it as a death cult, a murderous, hateful, bigoted, misogynist, anti-semitic, anti-freedom, death cult. I hope that’s “expansive” enough for you, I certainly wouldn’t want to offend anyone with my fact based opinion of a religion invented by a murderous warlord.
Agostino Armo Pellegrini says
Wellington,
Oh, wait, maybe you weren’t talking to me. You said AP, so naturally I thought that meant Agostino Pellegrini. Sorry if I spoke out of turn.
Wellington says
AAP: Yes, I was responding to AP and not you. And I fully agree with your characterization of Islam as you described it, i.e., a death cult, misogynistic, etc. No argument here.
My only point is that a religion can be rotten to the core but still legally considered a religion. In fact, I think it may be possible to argue that the totality of religions over the course of man’s history have been rotten to the core or something close to this. As I have often asked here at JW, where is it written that a religion cannot be bad or nonsensical? Assuming a religion must be good is just that—an assumption. And an assumption NOT backed up by a ton of dictionary definitions and no legal system I know of.
It is not important at all, and a total waste of time, to argue that Islam is not a religion. It most surely is but it is an evil religion, the most major evil religion in mankind’s history. It is from this vantage point it should be attacked and not the fool’s errand of maintaining it is not a religion at all. Just as mankind can produce putrid political systems, so can mankind produce putrid religions.

Muslims in Tours France have built a mosque named after the Islamic military commander that lost to the Franks under Charles Martel in 732AD. It is a hugely symbolic victory for muslims, but most French do not even know what happened there and why the Muslims named the Mosque the way they did. Wake up western world, the clock is nearly after midnight.
b.a. freeman says
Kirsch, the reason that most frenchmen don’t know about tours is because they have been “educated” in leftist indoctrination centers; they don’t learn critical thinking, and they do learn leftist “ideals.” EUrabian countries have had leftist indoctrination centers far longer than has the u.s., which is why it’s seen as OK for muslims to have no-go areas ruled by sharia law – that’s what they were taught by the “smart” people. if enough people get s**t on by the ummah, however, there may be a revolt. sadly, a civil war in each EUrabian nation is probably the best outcome for which we can wish.

Ah, yes, the slimy polymorphous blob known as Islam. When it wants protection and advantages that our laws give to religions it is a religion as well. When it comes to by-passing by-laws to keep religious institutions out of a given area it becomes a culture. It shall soon become a state with the right to have an armed national guard.
