This girl could have been beaten or killed for taking off her hijab, but of course this public school teacher doesn’t know that, as she has been fed a steady diet of fiction and fantasy about Islam being a religion of peace and the hijab being a choice, and she knows that only racist, bigoted “Islamophobes” think otherwise. Women’s rights for Muslim girls and women? Why, what’s the need for that? They don’t suffer any discrimination or harassment!
“My teacher almost outed me for taking off the hijab (Update),” Reddit, December 19, 2019:
So today I was happy. I had completely stopped covering my hair and was talking confidently with other people, I was just so joyful I wanted to go home and dream about it at night.
Then in math class, when the bell rang to switch, a teacher asked me about my hijab. I told her that I just took it off and it was no big deal. She then told me that it was important to uphold culture and asked if my parents knew what I was doing. Being the idiot I am, I said no and asked if she would tell. To my absolute horror, she said yes.
My whole world stopped. I asked her why she would do that and she just said “because it’s your culture! And you were given an advantage to be able to wear the hijab as a uniform, so don’t just take advantage.” I put my head down for a while, holding back tears. Before I knew it, it was time for the last class. In the hallway I just walked mindlessly to my next class. Then the same teacher who wanted to out me had apparently told the science teacher about what I had done. Both of them told me to come over and the science teacher asked what’s wrong. I didn’t say anything, and at that moment she just hugged me and I started sobbing.
She led me to the empty classroom and sat me down along with the other teacher. They gave me a whole lecture about why I shouldn’t have taken it off and my parents are just protecting me, I shouldn’t try to get a boyfriend even though I said I didn’t want one. After the talk I just put my hijab back on and left, it was time to go home now.
At the beginning of the day I was full of hope, and at the end I just felt crushed. I was lucky that they didn’t tell my mom, but they’re watching me from now on so I just can’t do what I have been doing anymore. I don’t know what to do anymore, my double life has ended before I knew it, and I lost a good chunk of the confidence I had earlier.
Edit: this happened in a regular public school in the U.S. on December 18, 2019….
Update #2: I spoke with the principal. He said that it’s my choice how I dress as long as it abides by the dress code. He said if those teachers want to talk to my mother, they can talk to him about it, so I’m free to take off my hijab. I’m going to try to take it off again, I’ll update again if she tries anything.
Infidel says
So mom is stringent about the daughter following islamic dress codes, yet mom also has ‘his’ preferred pronouns picked out? Must be Ilhan Omar. Does Arabic also have gender specific pronouns that they can pick? Maybe they could try all those ‘I select my own gender’ exercises in Muslim countries, and see how it goes?
Also any Muslimah who wants to throw off her hijab but gets grief from her family should point to Comrade Rashida, who gets along fine w/ Comrade Ilhan, despite one of them wearing the hijab and the other not
revereridesagain says
I think she means the principal said if the teachers intended to rat the girl out to her mother he would inform them that they’d better speak to him first. At least I hope that’s what he means, and that he will quietly instruct them to mind their own damn business, and that since the girl will not violate the dress code by removing that head rag she is free to do so. Since he did not lecture the child about her “culture” there’s room for optimism that he has some common sense. Better yet that he’ll suggest that those two moronic teachers educate themselves about the true meaning of hijab, but that’s probably too much to hope for.
ZivBnd says
Revere, that is how I understood it, too. The girl could be in a world of trouble if the first two teachers narc her out. I swear that some times the NEA inoculates teachers with idiotic ideas that can really hurt the people that the teachers are supposed to be keeping safe.
Donald Campbell says
See where the lunacy of “personal” pronouns takes us? For understanding, we will apparently have to abandon pronouns, as we are uncertain if “he” is the principal, the Mother, the daughter or some stranger that happens to walk by.

Don’t imagine that this girl would be able to talk back to Muslim parents and point to Rashida Tlaib. The fact that she is forced to wear a hijab and that she is this terrified that her parents might find out should clue you in. If this kid mouthed off to these parents she’d probably find herself in a shallow grave by morning. This happens. Don’t be stupid.

It’s just a Reddit post and not a newspaper article or an interview. Something about it seems a little too slick.
Of course nun’s wear *is* an obstacle to learning about each other on an even playing field. I always smell a rat when someone chooses one-upmanship flags as their social and religious preference.

I retired from the United States Air Force after 30 years of service. After retirement, I pursued and obtained a teaching certificate and taught for five years. I found some teachers to be fantastic, and some to be less than stellar. The point I would like to make is to encourage those who are older and not quite ready for retirement do the same thing. Do it for the children. They really do need the perspective of individuals who have worked and been successful in the commercial world (or the military, or whatever career you had…they need something other than “education major students” teaching them about the world. (By the way, I was WAY underwhelmed with the quality of “education” education.)
LytchZam says
It’s about 50/50. Some teachers have never really done anything else; they’ve gone from being students in school to teaching students in school without much other employment. Others have years of life experiences. The “problem” – if I can offer from 20 years as an employee and then and employer, to then, over a quarter-century of teaching, is that those who rise up through the administrative ranks are the former – those indoctrinated with the latest trends and acronyms.

Ashley, this sort of thing–Muslim girls threatened if they take off Hijab and Infidel idiots ready to enforce Islamic norms in the name of “multiculturalism”–is rife.

A side note: Aqsa was strangled with the hijab she was loathe to wear.

@Ashley “Redditt, Robert? Really?”
so where does a bright young high school girl in her situation get to air her concerns?
Obviously anyone in her situation can’t go public, you should read some of the other threads in that sub-reddit.
oldschool says
She doesn’t. Unless she can find a refuge and leave her family and religion forever. So it’s a tough spot to be in. It’s not like for the normal kid. She is more likely to be killed for this than not. Or beaten up and forced immediately into an arranged marriage.
gravenimage says
True, Marc.
Agostino Armo Pellegrini says
It’s not hard to imagine the hypervigilance teachers might have for a muslim student, desperately looking for any sign of “islamophobic” intimidation behind her decision not to wear:
“Did someone threaten you?”
“Did someone pull your hijab?”
“Did someone look at you funny?”
“Was Johnny there?”
“Was it cloudy and you couldn’t be yourself?”
Of course I’m talking facetious, I don’t know if any of that was said, but in the current climate for islam it’s a highly plausible scenario in our schools. In the end it was the teachers who were acting in bad faith, intimidating the young girl with their frothy determination to make her a victim and tell her parents. I kinda feel bad for young muslims who are trapped by their parent’s ignorant religion and customs that keep them down, like the hijab. I know first hand what it’s like to deal with a religious fundamentalist close to home and it can be real tough. I realize it’s not fashionable in the midst of all this terror for allah to show sympathy to muslims, but it’s gotta be hard for these young muslims too. They are faced with the difficult task of being both faithful muslims to their parents and also “American” or “European.” They are stuck between the 7th century idiocy of a killer warlord and our human rights that says their religion is dangerous and wrong. If more young muslims could be brave against the unreasoned filth of islam then that could make a big difference for the better. All they gotta remember is that loving ignorance is not the same as loving god. If god is a good god of truth then standing against the violence and lies of islam is a godly act.
Okay, I better stop before some JW shark comes along and bites off my sympathetic head. ha!

CogitoErgoSum says
It’s her culture? She just wants to fit in with American culture (which IS her culture if she is an American citizen) and the teachers are not allowing her to do that. They have no right at all to tell her she can not be what she wants to be. If her father wants to punish her by cutting off all her hair will they help him do that too? These teachers disgust me. The principal is right. It should be the girl’s choice and they should keep out of it. Could it be these teachers are Muslims themselves?
PRCS says
If dear ‘ole dad cuts off her hair–after those two idiot ‘teachers’ make him aware of her culturally disrespectful behavior, will they refer that as ‘her culture’, too?

Would it have been presumptuous or worse yet Politically Incorrect to have written mum, pop, male siblings and cousins that signs of punishment from the home base regarding the girl’s spontaneous choice would result in Children’s Aid seeking answers? Muslim public school student takes off hijab, teacher says she will notify her parents “because it’s your culture”
…………….
If this is accurate, then it is just terrifying. As noted, there have been Muslim girls beaten and murdered for not wearing Hijab and being “too Westernized”.
More generally, what business is it of these teachers if she chooses not to wear a Hijab or to have a boyfriend–what these teachers are doing is enforcing Shari’ah. We have seen this kind of thing before. Will they also out Muslim children who have a ham sandwich or eat during Ramadan? I would not be surprised.
Kepha says
Having taught teenaged Muslim girls from Indonesia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan, I’d tell my colleague to keep her big, fat nose out of whether the young lady wears a hijab or not, as long as the rest of her garb is in line with the school’s dress code or uniform policy. I’ve seen girls arrive in the States and come to school their first year in full Hijab and manteau, then the next year start showing some hair, and by senior year appearing in school uniform with all the hair showing. As far as I’m concerned, if some immigrant Muslims start exploring other options in the USA (and there has been some movement even towards Christianity), that is their right as residents or, in some cases citizens, of the USA.
I certainly agree that American teachers are being fed a sanitized version of Islam. When one colleague who took Dan Brown as a serious treatment of Christianity (she was a bad daughter of the Roman Catholic schools) spoke of Islam being all about “peace and tolerance”, I made it a point to tell her to go tell that to the Armenians, Syriacs, and Anatolian and Pontic Greeks; or to the numerous lakshs of Hindus whom Babur Shah boasted of massacring. I also told her about how Islamic law sees the Dhimmi as people to be excessively taxed, and that there is no penalty for a Muslim man who abducts a Dhimmi woman for either marriage or sexual slavery.
I refuse to be mean or disparaging to Muslim students in my classes. But I will not cover up the truth; and if some of my charges start moving towards secularism or Christianity, I’m for it.
And kudos to No Muzzies (4:42 PM). The bigger problem is indeed the betrayal of the West by its own political, legal, academic, cultural, and educational leaders.
PRCS says

Coming to the public school system as a third career, there are probably more conservatively sensible people in the system than meets the eye. A lot of people go in there because they love a subject and want to make a difference. Further, working in a minority-majority system, I am surprised at how many African-American and Hispanic people I’ve run into who are actually open-minded about Trump, despite all they’ve been told. Sometimes it’s the abortion issue; sometimes it’s the recognition that documented immigrants don’t have anything to fear; sometimes its the LGBTQ issue; sometimes the concerns of small business owners.
