What Tariq A. Al Maeena doesn’t explain is how the Islamic State and al-Qaeda to misinterpret all those hadiths, and why so many other groups do as well, and why they all misunderstand Islam in the same way.
The very concept of “Islamophobia” was invented by Islamic groups in order to claim victim status for Muslims and deflect attention away from the global jihad and Islamic supremacism. If self-proclaimed moderate Muslims really want to cure “Islamophobia,” here is an easy way. They can:
1. Focus their indignation on Muslims committing violent acts in the name of Islam, not on non-Muslims reporting on those acts.
2. Renounce definitively, sincerely, honestly, and in deeds, not just in comforting words, not just “terrorism,” but any intention to replace the U.S. Constitution (or the constitutions of any non-Muslim state) with Sharia even by peaceful means. In line with this, clarify what is meant by their condemnations of the killing of innocent people by stating unequivocally that American and Israeli civilians are innocent people, teaching accordingly in mosques and Islamic schools, and behaving in accord with these new teachings.
3. Teach, again sincerely and honestly, in transparent and inspectable ways in mosques and Islamic schools, the imperative of Muslims coexisting peacefully as equals with non-Muslims on an indefinite basis, and act accordingly.
4. Begin comprehensive international programs in mosques all over the world to teach sincerely against the ideas of violent jihad and Islamic supremacism.
5. Actively and honestly work with Western law enforcement officials to identify and apprehend jihadists within Western Muslim communities.
If Muslims do those five things, voila! “Islamophobia” will disappear!
“Time to fight Islamophobia,” by Tariq A. Al Maeena, Gulf News, December 28, 2019:
As 2019 slides into history, these final days are significant for their religious themes to Christians and Jews. For them it is a time to come together and renew their bindings of faith and family. Muslims all over the world should respect the fact that coexistence based on respect for the faith of others is essential. In Saudi Arabia, during recent years, the trend towards that concept has been very positive and obvious in the decline in divisive fatwas (religious edicts) that used to spring up constantly earlier….
Terrorist groups such as Daesh and Al Qaida in the past had used extreme interpretations of Hadiths numbered in the thousands to recruit terrorists, justify violence and to urge supporters to carry out attacks in the name of Islam. That in itself is one of the greatest vilifications of all. These people do not have a shred of Islamic behaviour coursing through their bodies.
The kingdom is actively countering to stamp out such acts. Extremist individuals have been rounded up and sequestered and replaced by qualified clerics in Islamic scripture. Islam has suffered enough through the actions of divisive and intolerant people.
Today, one of the greatest igniters of hatred and Islamophobia unfortunately comes not through clerics, but some world politicians who are not shy to let their racial comments spew forth to the delight of their constituents. Using Islam as a punching bag, these politicians target the faith in the hope of securing votes or acceptance. Nothing could be more unscrupulous than that. From the United States to the United Kingdom, from India to Australia, we have all read of reports of anti-Muslim acts that in some cases have led to tragic ends. We, as Muslims, must counter such feelings incited by these hate-mongers by sticking to the discipline taught to us by our religion….

What about the original muslim bandits from Medina ?
Hinest Ali says
Oh, but see, it is because God told them to do it… so they weren’t’ “bandits” per se… they were “holy warriors”…

Jihad is a religious warfare ordained by Allah, so how can a divine ordinance be ‘reformed’?
Jihad cannot be reformed out of Islam … Muslims can either accept jihad or leave Islam.
Muslims cannot have it both ways … but that is what Tariq A. Al Maeena is trying to do … create his own version of Islam without jihad in it. Nope … that would no longer be ‘Islam’.
I recommend to Muslims that they abandon Islam, since jihad will bring about World War III.

Extreme interpretation of Hadiths?
Someone here made a terrific comment several years ago. It went something like this:
“If you removed all the pages of the Qur’an that mention violence and depraved Islamic practices, you’ll be left with a three page pamphlet.”
gravenimage says
So true.
James Lincoln says
Ashley says,
“If you removed all the pages of the Qur’an that mention violence and depraved Islamic practices, you’ll be left with a three page pamphlet.”
True enough, and that’s in LARGE print…
mortimer says
Ashley, let’s get the numbers right. Over 60% of the Koran is the rant that Allah hates the kufaar and wishes the Muslims to arrest them, dispossess them of their property, enslave them and exploit them.
If the hate and violence were removed from the 77, 934 words in the Koran, about 23, 000 words would remain … that is about one-quarter of the size of an average novel of about 100,000 words.
Almost 2/3 of the Koran is about hatred, fear, threats and violence.
Patrick Kelley says
Islam is to conquer, Islam is jihad, Islam is Allah and Muhammad, Islam is the Quran, the Hadith. Islam is lying, Islam is deception, Islam is subversion. Islam has no morals, killing in Islam is a norm, killing in Islam is a way of life, killing/jihad in Islam promotes Islam.
mortimer says
Islam is a political system designed by the caliphs to motivate their troops.
CogitoErgoSum says
Forget about the Hadiths. Let’s just look at the Koran. What is meant by verse 3:28 about not taking unbelievers as friends and allies? Is this not divisive and a form of discrimination? What about verse 9:29 to fight the unbelievers until they become Muslims, or pay the Jizya or are dead? What verses revealed to Muhammad later abrogate these two verses? On what date and by what decree of Allah was the Jizya abolished? The answer is that those verses have not been abrogated and the Jizya is to be collected until the return of Isa. This man is either a liar or a fool … or perhaps both. Muhammad would probably classify him as one of the hypocrites … or see him as a useful idiot.
mortimer says
Yes, CES, you are correct. The teaching of segregation from the kafirs (al Baraa) is per se discriminatory.
This teaching is a ‘canonical’ and an ‘ESSENTIAL’ teaching of Islam that Muslim are required to believe and observe. They must be separate from the kafirs, show hostility towards them and ‘hate’ the kafirs ‘for the sake of Allah’.
They must show ‘comradeship’ (al Walaa) towards Muslims alone.

Yes, EG, Tariq Al-Maeena’s claims are pure fiction writing. The official, leading teachers of Islam contradict him, and say that ISIS is VERY Islamic.
A LEADING SAUDI CLERIC ENDORSES ISIS DOCTRINES – Sheikh Adel al-Kalbani
– Sheikh Adel al-Kalbani (former imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca), has said that the Islamic State (IS) group follows THE SAME BRAND OF ISLAM as officially espoused by Saudi Arabia.
“We follow THE SAME THOUGHT [as ISIS], but apply it in a refined way,” he said. “They draw their ideas FROM WHAT IS WRITTEN IN OUR OWN BOOKS, from our own principles.”
The cleric said that “WE DO NOT CRITICIZE THE THOUGHT on which it (ISIS) is based”.
In his MBC interview, which was broadcast on 22 January,2015, Kalbani said IS and Salafists in Saudi Arabia SHARED THE SAME OPINION on apostasy, which is that those who leave Islam should be executed.
Kalbani also spoke about the killing of journalists by ISIS, including Americans James Foley and Steven Sotloff, which drew global condemnation in September 2014.
He said “their blood was shed according to Salafist fatwas (religious edicts), not outside the Salafist framework.”
Frank De Munter says
Taqiyya in its purest form.
mortimer says
Yes, Tariq A. Al Maeena is a taqiyya-artist shovelling the falsehood that JIHAD is not a legitimate part of Islam.
The following definition is as close to an “official” definition of jihad as we can get. It is contained in the footnotes on p.39, ‘The Noble Koran’, published by King Fahd Complex for Publication of the Quran, Madinah, KSA.
“Jihad is holy fighting in Allah’s Cause with full force of numbers and weaponry. It is given the utmost importance in Islam and is one of its pillars. By Jihad Islam is established, Allah’s Word is made superior (which means only Allah has the right to be worshiped), and Islam is propagated. By abandoning Jihad Islam is destroyed and Muslims fall into an inferior position; their honor is lost, their lands are stolen, their rule and authority vanish. Jihad is an obligatory duty in Islam on every Muslim. He who tries to escape from this duty, or does not fulfill this duty, dies as a hypocrite.” – footnotes on p.39, ‘The Noble Koran’, published by King Fahd Complex for Publication of the Quran, Madinah, KSA.

Uh huh. Notice that Tariq A. Al Maeena doesn’t say how, exactly, these Hadith should be interpreted…

Does it matter that Saudi Arabia itself doesn’t allow Christians to practice their faith, and doesn’t even allow Israeli Jews into the country, and that the website of the Saudi Arabian Supreme Commission for Tourism initially stated that Jews would not be granted tourist visas to enter the country?
Of course not. Instead, the problem is “Islamophobia”…sarc/off
Tariq A. Al Maeena has slung this kind of Taqiyya before. Here is one such:

“coexistence based on respect for the faith of others”, says Tariq al Maeena, is something that “Muslims all over the world should respect”.
How much respect?
“We Muslims have not even a gram of respect for you infidels” say Sharia4Belgium.
“If anyone desire a religion other than Islam never will it be accepted of him” –
Koran 3:85, part of Islamic law.
A question for Tariq al Maeena:
What is the non-extreme interpretation of “Kill them…” – Koran 2:191?
Jayell says
Mr Spencer says that “If self-proclaimed moderate Muslims really want to cure “Islamophobia,” here is an easy way. They can”…….and then he stipulates five conditions that would render the practice of islam acceptable to non-muslim citizens of the civilised world. Unfortunately, those five conditions seem pretty well to negate the entire basic philosophy of islam. ‘Islamophobia’, he then says, ‘will disappear’. Absolutely right, because islam will effectively have disappeared with it!

Does Tariq al Maeena have a shred of credibility coursing through his text?

All these people claiming the numerous Muslim terrorist and supremacist organizations are getting Islam wrong never give a single example. Never. You can scour a “moderate” writers internet history and never find a single specific case where a spokesmen for ANY Muslim group says this is exactly how such and such a terrorist group got Islam wrong. The best any Muslim who truly believes in human rights can honestly do is leave Islam. The worst thing they can do is continue to defend it, with arguments they know to be false.

Tariq A. Al Maeena (as Robert Spencer states here) has not explained in what manner ISIS and Al Qaeda apply Islamic foundational texts DIFFERENTLY from Islamic rulers, sultans and caliphs in the past !!!
We must ask if Tariq Al Maeena can BACK UP his CLAIMS with FACTS ??? If not, then Tariq A. Al Maeena must surely accept the opinion of Islam’s TOP SCHOLARS that the two organizations are following the same SALAFISM as Saudi Arabia and Al Azhar University.
– Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah Nasr, a scholar of Islamic law and graduate of Egypt’s Al Azhar University said, (Al Azhar University) … “can’t condemn the Islamic State as un-Islamic. The Islamic State is a BYPRODUCT of Al Azhar’s programs. So can Al Azhar denounce itself as un-Islamic? Al Azhar says there must be a caliphate and that it is an obligation for the Muslim world [to establish it]. Al Azhar teaches the law of apostasy and killing the apostate. Al Azhar is hostile towards religious minorities, and teaches things like not building churches, etc. Al Azhar upholds the institution of jizya [extracting tribute from religious minorities]. Al Azhar teaches stoning people. So can Al Azhar denounce itself as un-Islamic?”
This rhetorical questions implies that ‘NO! Al Azhar cannot condemn ISIS or Al Qaeda as being un-Islamic.’
n says
Tariq A. Al Maeena doesn’t mention ‘JIHAD’ a single time. He is hoping we will not notice. He is hoping we will forget that JIHAD is a pillar of Islam and the most important deed in Islam even more important than prayer.

Yep.

The hadiths (an anthology of anecdotes about Mohammed) and the Sira (Mohammed’s official biography) are together the SUNNA of Mohammed … his sacred example to be imitated. Tariq A. Al Maeena wants Muslims to ignore the SUNNA. Thus, Tariq A. Al Maeena is asking Muslims to become KORAN-ONLY Muslims.
