“The detained leader of the group was named as Idris Alibekov, 23, from the Russian region of Dagestan, who works as a security guard in a Moscow coffee shop.”
A security guard. To have questioned about his perspectives and loyalties before giving him such a job would have been “Islamophobic.”
“Five ‘suspected Isis terrorists’ are detained in major Moscow shopping mall over ‘plot to attack targets in the Russian capital,'” by Will Stewart, MailOnline, December 14, 2019 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
Five suspected ISIS terrorists allegedly plotting attacks in the Russian capital have been detained at a major Moscow shopping mall with outlets of Marks & Spencer and Topshop.
The suspects were held after a joint FSB security service and police operation in the crowded Evropeisky shopping centre, officials revealed.
The alleged cell had reportedly been plotting attacks on a school and a police station over the New Year holidays.
The FSB said ‘communication devices with instructions from the ISIS international terrorist organisation’s emissaries’ were seized from the suspects during searches.
‘An arms cache was found, which contained a Kalashnikov rifle, a Makarov pistol, ammunition and an improvised explosive device,’ a statement added.
It is unclear why the men were at the shopping mall or if this was a target….
The detained leader of the group was named as Idris Alibekov, 23, from the Russian region of Dagestan, who works as a security guard in a Moscow coffee shop….
Two of the five were Russian citizens.
Hugh Fitzgerald says
I don’t think Vladimir Putin will treat these Muslim would-be terrorists in quite the same manner as his Western counterparts.
gravenimage says
Actually, Russia engages in a great deal of appeasement of Islam as well, Mr. Fitzgerald.
Infidel says
gravenimage, only as long as those Jihadists don’t target his regime. The moment they do, all bets are off. They could easily use nerve agents like the one used on Skripal to get rid of even their Muslim enemies. The only Muslims Putin likes are those who are either his puppets, like Assad, or enemies of the US
gravenimage says
Generally agree, Infidel. Putin is tough on Jihad, but is allowing the spread of Islam and Shari’ah, which can’t go well.
mortimer says
About 11% of the Russian population is nominally Muslim … very risky. Over 9.5 million Muslims translates to roughly 40,000 potential jihadists in Russia. About 15% of Muslims say they support jihad terrorist groups. There would be about 100,000 Muslims in Russia who will support the jihadists in their violent work.
A risky situation which will grow worse unless the world starts deprogramming Muslims out of Islam. That is the only solution: convince Muslims the Koran is of human origin.
gravenimage says
Again, Mortimer, I don’ think most Muslims will listen to the ‘filthy Infidels’.
Infidel says
Mortimer, the areas that Russian Muslims are distributed is very limited: Tatarstan and the Caucasian Muslim areas like Dagestan, Chechnya, and surrounding areas. While there may be some in Mosque-ow, it’s not evenly distributed from St Petersburg to Vladivostok.
Good thing is that Russian Orthodoxy has been making a comeback throughout Russia, which is good news
gravenimage says
Infidel, this has been the case traditionally–but Muslims have been *flooding* into the heartland of Russia, Moscow especially. Putin recently opened the largest mega-Mosque in Europe there, alongside Erdogan and Abbas.
“Despite animosity, Moscow’s Muslims change the city”
At least 1.5 million Muslims in Russia’s capital form the fastest growing and most ethnically diverse demographic group…
Moscow is slowly adapting to being Europe’s largest Muslim city, and Muslims are gradually adapting to it.
https://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2015/07/animosity-moscow-muslims-change-city-150720093306298.html
Despite the whining from Al Jazeera, this is a Muslim supremacist article.
Save Europe says
On that respect, totally true. Agreed.
However, Russia has a BIG problem. If one includes part of Russia as being part of Europe, which it is, then it hosts the largest Muslim population, in a non Muslim country.
Worryingly 30-35% of its armed forces are comprised of Muslims. That’s not inaccurate hyperbole, btw.
gravenimage says
Yes, Save Europe–*deeply* disturbing.
Cindy Carlson says
We all know Europe is done
gravenimage says
Cindy, there are many European Anti-Jihadists who don’t plan on giving up. You can surrender if you so desire, but that does not mean everyone intends to.
DHazard says
Russian leaders are not hampered by the same human rights concerns of other Western countries so some of their terror attacks may be over real abuse from the fascism that keeps the Communist party in power here and in China.
gravenimage says
DHazard, Russia is still authoritarian, but it is no longer Communist.
And while I have issues with the abuses of power in Russia, the idea that Muslims are targeting schools because of overweening governmental power is *not* the case.
In fact, Russia–like the West–regularly engages in appeasement of Islam. Here is just one story:
“Putin: ‘Islam and Orthodox Christianity are based on fundamental humanistic values — respect for human beings’”
https://www.jihadwatch.org/2019/11/putin-islam-and-orthodox-christianity-are-based-on-fundamental-humanistic-values-respect-for-human-beings
The fact is that Muslims wage Jihad against *all* Infidels.
And do you really believe that Muslims targeting *schools* is justified, no matter what government they are operating in?
Alice W. says
Authoritarian and communist and fascist, and Islamist are all closely related. Once power is centralized, it never de-centralizes by itself.
gravenimage says
Often true, Alice–but there are countries in Eastern Europe which have largely re-embraced democracy after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Russia *could* have chosen democracy, but sadly few there want it.
gravenimage says
Russia: Five Muslims detained at shopping mall for plots to commit jihad massacres at school and police station
……………….
We find this Muslim savagery all over the world. Those who claim that Muslims only target the West because of her “decadent” freedoms are *quite* mistaken.
Glad this Jihad terrorist attacks was stopped.
MTMLA says
Remember BESLAM !!! Muslims can’t be trusted.
gravenimage says
Yes–Beslan was a horrifying atrocity.
ntesdorf says
Once again, vigilance foils the giant exploding Muslims.
Lotus says
Graven, I noticed that you sent a post in Russian recently. So there are three possibilities.
1. You are a Russian, now living in California. 2. You are of Russian extraction. 3. You have studied Russian.
I visited Russia some years ago, but I don’t speak the language. Although I do like to read Russian literature in translation.
As for Russia’s appeasement of Islam, it does seem to be there at the official level. But the ordinary people I met in Russia don’t like the Muslims. There are long-standing historical reasons for that of course, and the revival of Orthodoxy has strengthened their sense of Christian solidarity.
So I would say that Putin is out of step with the general populace on this issue.
gravenimage says
Hi, Lotus. None of the above, I’m afraid–unless you want to count my briefly studying Russian when I was nine. I didn’t get much beyond learning the Cyrillic alphabet.
I do speak and read some German, and a smattering of French, but not Russian.
My recent excursion into posting in Russian was in response to Hugh Fitzgerald doing the same, and was courtesy of Google Translate (I crossed my fingers and hoped the program would get it right–I think it did).
I also greatly admire Russian literature–Chekhov, Tolstoy, and Dostoevsky especially; and I illustrated the Marina Tsvetaeva chapter of a book of Russian poetry. I envy your having visited the country.
And I do know that there is–for damn good reason–a lot of antipathy towards Muslims by most ordinary Russians. But there is also an odd strand of appeasing Muslims and whitewashing Islam there–you see this not just with Putin but from Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill, as well:
“Four Principles from Patriarch Kirill on Islam, Western Immorality, and Interfaith Dialogue”
http://myocn.net/four-principles-patriarch-kirill-islam-western-immorality-interfaith-dialogue/
This sort of thing often comes from Russians who foolishly hate the West more than they fear Jihad. Sadly, they are, while not the majority, still quite a few.
Lotus says
Thanks for the link, Graven.
Yes, it is interesting to see the stance of the Russian Orthodox Church towards Muslims. Historically, the Muslims were great enemies of Russian Christians, and that is reflected even today in a residual hostility towards Islam among many Russians.
After all, Russians see Moscow as the Third Rome, the inheritor and guardian of the Orthodox faith of Constantinople.
That hostility has been exacerbated in recent years by many high-profile terrorist attacks in Russia.
As for the official church view, it now seems to see Islam as an ally against what is perceived as the secularism, relativism and shallow materialism of the West, which it fears will contaminate Russia also.
If that is indeed the view of the church hierarchy, it is a mistake. There can be no long-term alliance with Islam because it is a treacherous partner.
gravenimage says
I very much agree, Lotus.
Infidel says
The attack near the FSB headquarters in Moscow this week – was that also done by a Jihadist?
gravenimage says
Infidel, thanks for asking that question.
I had heard the name of the shooter was Yevgeny Manyurov–a Russian name–so I assumed this was not Jihad. But I just found this further information:
“His father, Fitikh Manyurov, told the news outlet RBC that his son had recently been working as a security guard for the embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Moscow.”
https://abcnews.go.com/International/russia-names-shooter-attack-spy-headquarters/story?id=67850611
“Fitikh” is a Muslim name, and his working for the UAE is certainly a red flag. Despite his Russian name, there would seem to be a good chance that the shooter was Muslim.
Infidel says
Thanks for the details
gravenimage says
Infidel, this story is now being covered here at Jihad Watch:
“Russia: Muslim ‘shouting slogans typical of Islamic State’ opens fire at security HQ, BBC says motive unclear”
https://www.jihadwatch.org/2019/12/russia-muslim-shouting-slogans-typical-of-islamic-state-opens-fire-at-security-hq-bbc-says-motive-unclear
Now it is clear that this was Jihad. I’m not surprised.
abad says
It is a good thing these five Moslems were detained and prevented from “Allahu Akhbar”ing at the shopping mall.
Russia be smart, and deport these Moslems to Syria.
Save Europe says
Please also note they wanted to target Marks and Spencer – a. British Jewish company.
Very deliberate indeed.
Phil Copson says
“…Please also note they wanted to target Marks and Spencer – a British Jewish company…”
—————————————————————————————————————-
You may be inferring too much there; the article simply mentions the name of a couple of businesses with outlets there – “Marks & Spencer” and “Topshop” – with whom readers of the “Daily Mail” will be familiar, to add interest to the story.
(I’m just fascinated to read that a Russian coffee-shop needs to employ security guards – who knew ? )
gravenimage says
I agree, Phil. Jihadists regularly target markets and shoppers–sometimes the target is specifically American or British and/or Jewish, but often any stores are fair game.
Save Europe says
Hi GI
My reference is to Carlos the Jackal and Marks.
Save Europe says
Respectfully disagree.
Marks and S have always been targeted!
Who did Carlos the Jackal try to kill? In London!
Have you heard of him?
You’ll have to forgive me for appearing supercilious, but I work in the ‘policing sector.’
Muslims ‘have previous history’ with M and S.
You missed my historical point/reference.
Quazgaa says
Russia spares no quarter when it’s payback time. I remember reading once about an arab terrorist group that crossed them and killed some Ivans. The Russian commandos found the murderers, relieved them of the burden of their existence, and sent their cojones in jars to the families.
They got the message.
Is no joke.
Maximilian Jehuda Ewert says
