….The King said that the Saudi people are greatly angered by the barbaric actions of the shooter, and that this person in no way shape or form represents the feelings of the Saudi people who love the American people.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 6, 2019
Does Trump himself believe this? Does he actually think that “the Saudi people…love the American people”? Or is he calculating that he needs to take this line because he wants to keep the Saudis on his side against Iran?
Either way, the Saudi problem is not going to go away, and is going to have to be dealt with sooner or later. This is a regime that has spent billions, if not trillions, to spread Wahhabi Islam — a form of the religion that is even more virulent and violent than the others — around the world. Its schools are routinely found to teach hatred of Jews and Christians, despite repeated promises of textbook reform. Even if Trump thinks the Saudi regime is reforming, a claim that has been made but for which there is scant evidence, he should realize that “the Saudi people” are mostly doctrinaire Muslims (as they have been taught to be and threatened into remaining) who therefore have no love for the kuffar of America.
For years I have called for an end to our sham alliance with Saudi Arabia. The Pensacola shooting only shows yet again why this is needed.

In which case, why did they ever bother converting non Arabic speaking people? Of the 2 billion Muslims worldwide, only half a billion could speak Arabic. Otherwise, they speak Turkic languages, Urdu, Bangladeshi, Bahasa Indonesian and myriad other languages. So what business do they have being Muslims?
J_not_a says
First off, there’s not 2 billion muslims. More like 1.5 billion at most. Secondly, there’s only 20 percent of them that are Arabs/ Arab speaking. Don’t throw around wildly exaggerated figures, it diminishes whatever else you have to say.
Infidel says
The 1.5 billion was an old number, back when the world’s population was 7 billion. Today, the world population is 8 billion, and the Musim population has grown as well. Underestimating their numbers does no good to the anti-Islam movement.
The total number of Arabs there are in the world are 450 million, or about a quarter of that population.
J_not_a says
GIVE PROOF from a reliable source there are 2 billion muslims.
J_not_a says
Give proof also the world’s population is 8 billion. I’ve not seen that anywhere quoted either. You are coming across as a complete kook.
Jayell says
This is very interesting. But how many of this 2 billion/1.5 billion/whatever can actually read Arabic, or indeed read anything at all? And of those who can read (whatever language), how many have read much, or any, of the Qur’an? Because the number of times we’ve come across muslims who’ve ended up here in the West saying that they’ve only just read or/and understood what’s actually in their ‘Holy Book, or have just discovered what a nice, righteous person their beloved Prophet WASN’T, leads me to wonder if most of these multi-billion ‘fervent believers’ have actually got much idea what they’re supposed to be ‘fervently believing’ in, unless it’s just understood as a licence to be as uncouth, unciviiised and depraved as they might choose to be – which is in any case more or less what the Qur’an’s all about, so perhaps there’s not much need to read it anyway!

I agree. It is better to train them in Saudi Arabia, and also to guard the instructors from the fanatics. Or perhaps there is some island where they can be trained without any danger of terrorists coming into the base or leaving it.
CogitoErgoSum says
Why are we training them at all? They are commanded by their god to fight us. They are told not to be our allies or our friends. It’s completely insane to be providing them with weapons and teaching them to fight because once they have defeated their most immediate enemies they will turn against us (as some of them already have).
Savvy Kafir says
Agreed! We should not be allied with any Muslim nation — and certainly not Saudi Arabia, a vipers’ den of True Believers.

There is that theory that they help us oppose Iran. Even though the evidence is that there has been probably only one Iranian Shi’ite Jihadist attack in the US – Mahmoud Taheriazar in the 2000s at Chapell Hill, NC
Apparently, we are supposed to help Saudi Arabia prevent Yemen from completely falling to the Houthis. Although our interests in this happening is far from obvious
CogitoErgoSum says
Look at what happened in Afghanistan with helping bin Laden against the Soviets which ended up with the attacks of Sept 11. Look at what happened in Iran with our support for a more democratic government that ended up with the Ayatollahs’ leading public chants for death to America. If the Saudi people want to live under Islam then let them live under Islam … but never should they expect any help of any kind from the United States. Whether we end up fighting Sunnis or Shia, we will still end up fighting Islam. Let them decided between themselves who it is that eventually comes after us.

Since 2010 we have been building and selling the Saudis the F-15SA aircraft under the direction of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (https://www.dsca.mil/major-arms-sales/saudi-arabia-f-15sa-aircraft), plus Saudi pilots have participated in Red Flag exercises at Nellis Air Force Base. You think this guy with a handgun at Pensacola was dangerous? Think about a Saudi pilot in his F-15SA in a Red Flag flight over the Nevada desert deciding to shoot down other Allied aircraft.

Trump usually has the habit of saying what he’s thinking out aloud. So I hope he covers this at his rally in Hershey, PA. At best, he may be being diplomatic by not raising hell about this now. But in his phone calls w/ King Salman, he needs to say, “King! We can’t have your personnel in the US any longer: if you want them to train, it has to be on your turf”.
On another note, the Trump administration needs to reverse both Bush and Obama policies of keeping sealed that part of the 9/11 report that addresses the Saudi involvement, and which 9/11 families want to use in their class action lawsuit against Riyadh. Given last week’s events, there are fewer reasons to take the Saudi side in all of this

Infidel says
Dear POTUS
I know how important the Saudi trillions are to us – be it them underwriting our debt, investing in Wall Street or buying hundreds of billions of weaponry from us. But then there is the issue of Americans being killed by them – be it on 9/11, or this week.
So maybe we should run the numbers – how much is any persons life worth? $1M? $10M? $100M? Maybe the average of all their life insurance? Then divide all the money we get from Riyadh – be it their ownership of our bonds, our stocks, our military hardware and all of that – by that number. When the number of Americans killed exceeds that, then can we agree that it’s time to snap ties w/ not just Saudi Arabia, but their vassals as well – Egypt, Emirates, Bahrein, Kuwait, Jordan?
Otoh, if you think that the above question is insulting, can we suspend those relations right now, before anyone else has to be killed by Muslims being Islamic?
P.S. Somebody should play back to Trump his statements during the GOP debates in 2016, when he’d point out that it was Saudi Arabia, not Iraq, that was behind 9/11. Or his statement after the San Bernardino massacre, when he called for a moratorium on Muslim immigration until we know what the hell is going on.

The average Saudi (or Muslims from any other Muslim country) is greatly angered by this attack or the recent London attack or 9/11 attack or all the endless other attacks. Pig’s arse!! I’m sure that most Muslims are overjoyed at all these Muslim terrorist attacks on the infidels. They hate all of the non-Muslims. That’s basic Islam. When it comes to Islam, it is us or them. There’s no chance of getting along peacefully with islam. I’m sure Trump doesn’t buy any of their garbage, but I guess he has to weigh up just how tough to act in real world politics, in the way that a pragmatic politician would do. I wish every western politician would be as tough on Islam as Orban, the Hungarian leader, is. He seems to call out Islam as the foul, satanically evil ideology that it is. It would be great if all our leaders did that.
eduardo odraude says
I’d question the idea that most Muslims are overjoyed, even secretly, by the attacks.
I do suspect that almost all of the Muslim religious leadership (sometimes sotto voce or secretly) supports jihad attacks provided the attacks strengthen the Muslim position.
In addition, I’d estimate that over 200 million Muslims — 15% of Muslims — follow Muhammad and the Islamic source texts most closely — and therefore strongly agree with any jihad attacks that strengthen the Muslim position in the world.
Another 50% or so of Muslims are to one or another extent ambivalent — supporting attacks somewhat or sometimes, and often don’t know that much about Islam. If you ask them about some of the dark things Muhammad says and does in the Islamic sources, many of these Muslims will genuinely not believe you unless you actually show them the dark sources in question. David Wood has a lot of experience with this sort of Muslim. By educating them about their own sources, he has caused quite a few to become apostates.
Maybe 20% of Muslims worldwide are totally against jihad and totally for freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and democracy. These freedom-minded Muslims sometimes think Islam has been misunderstood by the jihadists. But a thorough look at the Islamic sources shows that the jihadists have better understood Muhammad and his teachings. Muhammad would have considered the freedom-minded Muslims apostates.
.
Many Muslims know relatively little about Muhammad’s teachings. Four-fifths of the world’s Muslims do not speak Arabic, and yet they must pray the Arabic of the Qur’an and thus often have rather limited understanding of what precisely they are praying. Even the Muslims who do speak Arabic find some of the Qur’an’s archaic Arabic obscure. And think about the fact that even when you or I read the Qur’an in English, it is often very difficult to know what the Qur’an is talking about, unless we go to the famous exegeses (such as those of Ibn Kathir or Robert Spencer) and the supporting hadiths that provide the “context of revelation” and explain the meaning of particular Qur’an verses. Islam is not hard to understand, but some time is needed to read enough of the source material to get an accurate grasp of the big picture: Islam is an expansionist authoritarian-totalitarian system, perhaps the granddaddy of them all.
Aussie Infidel says
Tim, My sentiments precisely. The only Muslims angered by attacks such as this, are the Muslim elites who are trying to keep the lid on violence against the kuffar by Muslim hotheads. They are trying desperately to maintain the stealth jihad approach to fool our ignorant leaders. Only a few politicians in our parliament understand anything about Islam, and from what I’ve seen and read the situation in the US is not much different.
Back in 2012, the then Secretary General of the OIC, Ekmeledin Ihsonoglu, gave a talk at a meeting I attended at Griffith University in Brisbane. When he was asked, what he thought of the ‘9/11’ attacks, Ihsonoglu replied, “That was a great mistake for us, because now we have had to confront the West before we were ready”. I was dumbfounded that he could have been so frank about their intentions. Perhaps he thought we were all students from the Center for Middle Eastern Studies.
Despite what he has said about the Saudis after this attack, I’m sure Trump knows full well what the situation is. He is probably playing it cool politically for some reason, but he cannot continue to take this stance forever. I too wish Trump was more like Victor Orban – and our leaders were more that way as well.

eduardo odraude says
The fact that Trump prefaces the statement with “The King said…” suggests to me that Trump is subtly distancing himself from the King’s statement. I think Trump knows there is a grave problem with Islam — but Trump at the same time genuinely wants to calm the waters and often uses friendly talk to do so.
There can of course be all kinds of realpolitik reasons — some excellent, some not — that a president does not always say publicly what he really thinks.
gravenimage says
Trump: “The King said that the Saudi people are greatly angered by the barbaric actions of the shooter”
……………
President Trump is staunchly anti-Jihad–a very good thing–but he doesn’t understand much about Islam, especially Taqiyya.
eduardo odraude says
Why do you conclude that Trump knows little or nothing about Taqiyya? Do you think Trump believes the statement of the Saudi king? The fact that Trump starts by saying “The King said…” might be Trump’s indirect way of saying: “I am not saying this is true, I am only reporting what the King says…”
Furthermore, some of the people Trump has had connected to his administration (such as Frank Gaffney, who is a top person from the core of the Islam-critical movement — recall Gafney’s ten-part video series on the Muslim Brotherhood) have made it a large part of their purpose in life to educate people about Islam and taqiyya. I would not be surprised if Gaffney or one of his allies has given a concise clear explanation of taqiyya to Trump.
At any rate I think Trump does understand that Islam is a totalitarian system, a very sick system, even if he does not know much more than that.

I hope you are right Eduardo. Certainly, Trump is solidly Anti-Jihad, which is not true of all recent presidents.
