Of course. How could anything from the Qur’an be hateful or inciting?
The billboards quote this Qur’an passage: “O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as friends or allies. They are friends and allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you – then indeed, he is of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.” (5:51)
What could be more peaceful?
“Turkish Hate Speech Posters Remain Controversial,” International Christian Concern, December 19, 2019:
12/19/2019 Turkey (International Christian Concern) – Street posters appearing in Konya this October which warned passer-byers to “not make friends” with Jews and Christians remain a controversial topic among locals. The posters, which were removed following an outcry, may still return back to the streets.
The criminal compliant which removed the posters alleged that these statements incited locals to hatred and hostility towards religious diversity. A warning was made that it encouraged aggressive incidents directed towards Christians and Jews. However, according to officials, the statements made on the posters were taken directly from the Koran and thus the crime of incitement did not occur.
Turkey is officially a secular country, but under the government of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), has moved towards Islamism as a way to build and strengthen a political power base. Hate speech towards religious minorities have become common place by many government officials, and throughout society….
Michael Copeland says
Of course: “Kill them wherever you find them” cannot be incitement, can it? It is from the Koran, so it must be sacred. Justice Haddon-Cave told us, “The Koran is a book of peace”.
Clear as mud.
SAFI says
Erdogan said once not too long ago that the only documents he considers binding is “sacred” scripture (i.e the Quran and Hadith). Meaning that everything else like Human Rights Law, Peace Treaties, Constitutions, etc are up for revision and can (and should) be trampled on whenever it suits the Muslims (or him personally).
SAFI says
Or as the Muslim Brotherhood proclaims “The Quran is our constitution.”
FYI says
If that is the case then the MB’s “constitution” is built on sand.
Of course allah’s “perfect” book isn’t even remotely perfect, the author boasting about it..
“Will they not then ponder on the koran?
If it had been from other than allah they would have found much incongruity therein”
Koran 4 v 82
Yes:allah’s “perfect” book is so riddled with errors that in its imperfections it means it must come from “other than allah”
allah attacks TWO world religions k9:30 which is some achievemant for a god who wants you to think he is the same as the Biblical God,completely MISSED ..the Golden Rule,The 2nd Chief Commandment of “Love thy neighbor”,and by encouraging muslims to violate the Exodus 20 Laws violates the 1st Chief commandment, gets Jewish and christian Theology wrong{Jews don’t believe in any “Ezra is the son of allah”,the Christian concept of the Trinity is NOT about dividing God into parts i.e it is Monotheistic, not polytheistic} and refuses to believe the Jews have any relevance.
“Abraham was not a Jew” k3:65
It’s a pity muslims don’t study the “perfect” koran with a critical eye.
FYI says
1}If you apply the koran’s criterion of perfection { koran 4:82} you will note all the ERRORS* in the koran which show that allah’s “perfect” book is in fact so IMPERFECT it couldn’t possibly be from God.
Critical analysis shows that there is “much incongruity therein”…
The koran is,per allah’s own criterion of koran 4:82 an EPIC fail.
2}If you apply the koran’s criterion of koran 45:16 of who is entitled to qualify as a prophet :
“And We verily gave the Children of Israel the scripture and the command and the prophethood, and provided them with good things and favored them above all peoples”
The prophets were JEWISH ..but muhammed was not a Jew which means by koran 45:16 he was not qualified to call himself a prophet{that was reserved for “the Children of Israel” as koran 45:16 makes clear}
See too:On You Tube acts 17 apologetics who kllled muhammed?
for further evidence that in his last days muhammed PROVED he was a false prophet which he must have known anyway as he admitted as much in al tabari 6:111:muslims will say allah cancelled out what mo said but we all know allah is mo’s convenient sock puppet…..}
muhammed was clearly, per koran 45:16 ,NOT qualified to be a prophet.
Many who are now ex-muslim “apostates” have figured it out:the koran is totally bogus as is its “prophet”!
koran 4:82 implodes the koran and koran 45:16 shows muhammed could not have been an authentic prophet
islamic scholars hide this from muslims usually by {desperately} fiddling the Arabic.
So muslims SHOULD read the koran and be critical
Why does the koran teach that the Exodus 20 laws can be broken when that defeats the whole purpose of God’s Commandments given to Moses?
Why is the Golden Rule missing in islam?
Why does allah get everything so wrong?
How can you be in a religion whose “perfect” koran is imperfect and its “prophet” is so obviously fake?
Why does allah have TWO RIGHT HANDS{sahih muslim 1827}?
Why does allah tell muslims NOT to believe in God’s Holy Spirit of Wisdom in k4:171 which is why muslims know nothing about God?
Could it be that k4:54…allah is “the BEST of deceivers”?
That’s it isn’t it?
*It is not just all the scientific errors,it is also the illogicalities and theological errors.
mortimer says
Dear FYI, Well done. You are progressing on the errors within the Islamic texts, but the topic in this post is the burning issue of whether the Koran promotes hatred. Can you answer that?
FYI says
@Mortimer
Ok: fair enough
“Does the koran promote hatred”?
1}koranic antisemitism
The Jews “Apes to be despised and hated” koran 2:65
and many more verses…that’s pretty clear.
2}The concept of “Love thy neighbor” Lev 19:18 is IMPOSSIBLE due to
a}the koranic classification of humanity into TWO classes
The muslims k3:110 as “the BEST community of people”
The Jews,Christians etc k 98:6 as “the WORST of created beings”
The superior muslims vs the inferior non-muslims:you cannot love your neighbor if your neighbor is classed as “the WORST of created beings” and being considered inferior to muslims can be subject to 3 islamic practices:conversion,paying the jizya tax or being killed{Sahih Muslim book 19 no 4294}
b}Endless Jihadist verses:the infidel in islam is NOT seen to be made in the image of God{as say,in Christianity}so is not equal to a muslim.
All of this koranic instruction gives rise to the Doctrine of al walaa wal baraa….the absence of Love in islam {found in the 2 chief commandments of God}gives permission for muslims to hate infidels.

Good posts, FYI.
JamesC says
““Abraham was not a Jew” k3:65”
He wasn’t. The Jews are descended from the patriarch Judah, 4th son of Jacob/Israel, son of Isaac, son of Abraham. The ancestor of the Israelites (including Jews) himself belonged to neither group. He is however referred to in Genesis as “Abram the Hebrew” (14.13) – one of his ancestors in Gen 10 & 11 being Eber, a descendant of Shem.
So those words at least are accurate.
I suppose it could be argued that, if Christ and Christians revised the OT here and there, e.g. in respect of things such as the necessity of circumcision & the perpetuity of the Levitical priesthood, then there can be no a priori reason to complain that Muhammed considered himself equally free to revise Christianity. Always supposing, that is, that he was a true Prophet. If religion B can revise religion A, then religion C can revise religion B. That would be some kind of defence for the Muslim revision of the Christian doctrine of marriage.

James, this is technically true–kinda. But Muslims are not making your point–they are, instead, claiming that Abraham was *Muslim*.
Besides, Jews do indeed consider Abraham to be both the father of the Jewish nation and the first Jew. I had a friend who converted to Judaism, and the ceremony cites Abraham and Sarah as being his spiritual parents.

In Konya town, already in 1950s (500K population), number of pupils in imam schools had been equal to imam pupils in Istanbul (1,2M).
Konya, for decades the revered “Islamic capital” of the country for the ruling AKP party and its boss R. Erdogan, is the Roman Ikonium, conquered by the seljuk trurks to be converted to their Sultanate of Rum (1097-1243) capital, and then conquered by the ottoman turks.
Konya’s Christianity and other human civilizational traces have been uprooted, in order to be replaced by Islam, and it is still probably the most islamised town in Turkey.

These are clearly double standards.
The defendant who produced the posters is saying in effect … Muslims are not required to tolerate other religions, because the Koran is mostly hate speech directed against the dirty kufaar. Muslims are required to direct ‘hatred and hostility’ against the dirty kafirs ‘for the sake of Allah’.
The defendant’s argument is that HATRED AND HOSTILITY TOWARDS THE KAFIRS is the decree of Allah, so Allah’s decree in the Koran annuls secular law.
Their claim: “IT ISN’T ‘HATE SPEECH’ when MUSLIMS DO IT.”
mortimer says
Does the Koran incite hatred? Read the statistics and make decide for yourself …
Statistical Analysis of words Fear, Love and Hate in the Koran:
There are over 400 references in the Koran to hate, over 300 references in the Koran to Allah and FEAR, but there are only 49 references to love. Of these love references, 39 are negative such as the 14 negative references to love of money, power, other gods and status.
Three verses command humanity to love Allah and only 2 verses are about how Allah loves a believer. There are 25 verses about how Allah does NOT love kafirs (disbelievers).
This leaves 5 verses about love. Of these 5 verses, 3 are about loving kin or a Muslim brother. One verse commands a Muslim to give money for the love of Allah. This leaves only one quasi-universal verse about love: give what you love to zakat-charity and even this is contaminated by dualism since Muslim zakat-charity only goes to other Muslims. There are OVER 400 teachings of HATE directed against all disbelievers: Jews, Christians, Idolaters and Kafirs.
So much for love. HATE and FEAR are what Allah demands in the Koran.

And of course cold hard statistics/ numbers, don’t lie.
A simple analysis like this will never make it to the mainstream news as it would be classed as Islamaphobic.
I would be very interested to see a direct comparison of say the old testament, whatever is the most prolific version of the new testament. (There are quite a few versions) and also the Torah.
Only then, I feel could a true indication of which belief system is truly on top of the “love V hate ” ratio and so which is truly a “religion of peace”.

Mark Spahn (West Seneca, NY) says
The Sahih International translation of Quran 5:51 says, “O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies.” Why “have” believed? As detailed in
http://corpus.quran.com/translation.jsp?chapter=5&verse=51
, the other English-language translation of Q5:51 avoid the present-perfect tense; they say, variously, “O ye who believe!”, “O you who believe!”, “Believers,”, and “O believers,”. To a native speaker of English, a reference to you who “have believed” has the implication that you used to believe, but no longer believe. Why does Allah address *former* believers? (And why does Allah not refer to what you believe? that Allah exists?).
Is “have believed” an accurate translation of an Arabic verb tense having the same connotations that the present-perfect tense has in English? Or is this just sloppiness by a translator who doesn’t take his job seriously? Someone who is knowledgeable about Quranic Arabic, please speak up.
Michael says
This Turkish quotes from Quran must be translated into English and spread widely to show what Quran actually teach and the origin of Muslim ‘s hatred and actions.
If any one said that this is the Islamic teaching, s/he would be accused of islamophopia.
