Brooklyn College: Muslim athletes kneel during Israel’s national anthem

Feb 26, 2020 4:00 pm By Robert Spencer

The Qur’an depicts the Jews as inveterately evil and bent on destroying the well-being of the Muslims. They are the strongest of all people in enmity toward the Muslims (5:82); they fabricate things and falsely ascribe them to Allah (2:79; 3:75, 3:181); they claim that Allah’s power is limited (5:64); they love to listen to lies (5:41); they disobey Allah and never observe his commands (5:13). They are disputing and quarreling (2:247); hiding the truth and misleading people (3:78); staging rebellion against the prophets and rejecting their guidance (2:55); being hypocritical (2:14, 2:44); giving preference to their own interests over the teachings of Muhammad (2:87); wishing evil for people and trying to mislead them (2:109); feeling pain when others are happy or fortunate (3:120); being arrogant about their being Allah’s beloved people (5:18); devouring people’s wealth by subterfuge (4:161); slandering the true religion and being cursed by Allah (4:46); killing the prophets (2:61); being merciless and heartless (2:74); never keeping their promises or fulfilling their words (2:100); being unrestrained in committing sins (5:79); being cowardly (59:13-14); being miserly (4:53); being transformed into apes and pigs for breaking the Sabbath (2:63-65; 5:59-60; 7:166); and more. They are under Allah’s curse (9:30), and Muslims should wage war against them and subjugate them under Islamic hegemony (9:29).

“Brooklyn College Athletes Draw Ire For Kneeling During Israel’s National Anthem,” by Adam Kredo, Washington Free Beacon, February 25, 2020:

Student athletes at Brooklyn College are facing criticism after kneeling during the singing of Hatikvah, Israel’s national anthem, before a volleyball match against Jewish students of Yeshiva University.

At a men’s volleyball competition that took place during the weekend, two players from Brooklyn College can be seen on video taking a knee as Hatikvah plays. The kneeling Brooklyn players were subsequently identified as Omar Rezika and Hunnan Butt in social media posts on the event.

The episode is already making waves in the pro-Israel community after video of Rezika and Butt kneeling was posted on Twitter. The incident is just the latest in a long line of student athletes refusing to compete with, and even mistreating, their Jewish challengers. It has become commonplace in recent years for athletes to engage in anti-Israel political protests during sports competition. One of the more high-profile incidents occurred during the Rio Olympics in 2016, when Egyptian judoka fighter Islam El Shehaby refused to shake the hand of his Israeli competitor.

Dr. Ari Berman, president of Yeshiva University, told the Free Beacon he was disappointed to see that Brooklyn players “disrespected” Israel’s national anthem.

“It is unfortunate that some members of the opposing team disrespected Israel’s national anthem,” Berman said. “We are proud to be the only university who sings both the American and Israeli national anthems before every athletic competition and major event. Nothing makes me prouder to be an American than living in a country where our religious freedom, our Zionism and our commitment to our people will never be impeded and always be prized.”

While some alleged that Rezika and Butt refused to shake hands with the Jewish athletes, officials with both Brooklyn College and Yeshiva disputed that claim. They told the Free Beacon the players shook hands after the game ended, which is commonplace in volleyball matches. Video of the event posted online does not show whether the players shook hands….

And you just know they smoke weed, drink and have premarital sex. These adolescent acts demonstrate the unifying force that holds Islam together, hatred. Add a dash of narcissism and you have a young man who feels so special that he no longer has to act with even a rudimentary level of dignity.

Besides, kneeling is a sign of respect so it really doesn’t look like a protest against Jews but more like they are the only ones actually honoring Israel. It’s all so childish and stupid.

DH, that is meant as disrespect as you know. It’s called ‘passive aggressive’.

Actually I would see the Muslims kneeling at the playing of this anthem as a sign of respect. Certainly not intended, but still.

      ????? Respectfully disagree.

They were functioning in “full Kaepernick mode.” Do you actually think Kaepernick’s kneeling could also be interpreted as a sign of unintended respect for the American national anthem?

      Your turn if you care.

      Emilie Green,

Perhaps the “kneelers” should be asked if they meant to show a “sign of respect”.

      And go on record…

      • mortimer says

        Feb 27, 2020 at 1:36 am

It is passive aggression. It is anti-Semitic. It’s a denial of the right of Israel to exist.

Emilie–with all respect to you–unless one is disabled one *stands* for the national anthem as a sign of respect. “Taking the knee” has intended since its inception to indicate a pointed and overt *lack* of respect.

      • Infidel says

        Feb 26, 2020 at 11:12 pm

That’s true in the US. Has that ever been a universal recognition? I mean, kneeling in prayer and kneeling for an anthem may mean the same thing in other countries, even if not in this one

        • gravenimage says

          Feb 27, 2020 at 6:58 pm

Could be, Infidel–certainly, you are right that kneeling is a sign of respect under some circumstances. But standing for both your own and the opposing team’s national anthem is universal in the sports world, no matter the nation.

There is *no doubt* that these Muslims at Brooklyn College intended their kneeling during the Israeli team’s national anthem to be insulting.

Colin Kapernick is married to a Moslima, and looking at him my guess is that he was adopted from a Moslem country. So good choice by Omar Rezika and Hunnan Butt to take a knee during the Hatikvah, the Israeli national anthem.

    • gravenimage says

      Feb 26, 2020 at 8:16 pm

APF, Colin Kapernick was born in the US. His birth mother is white, his always unnamed birth father black. Kapernick is the name of his adopted parents.

His girlfriend Nessa Diab is indeed Muslim, and despite being born in the US spent a lot of time in the Middle East as a child. She is also a fan of Fidel Castro.

They have been coy about whether Kapernick has converted to Islam or not–generally treating the question itself as “Islamophobic”. He said:

‘I have great respect for the religion, know a lot of people that are Muslim and are phenomenal people. But I think that (rumor of conversion) comes along with people’s fear of this protest, as well as Islamophobia in this country…”

      Feb 26, 2020 at 7:38 pm

      That’s how I see it.

muslims should prostrate themselves before the ha-tikvah.

The muslims are kneeling to the ha-tikvah because at a deep level they surely know that their Linguistically,Theologically and Scientifically challenged ARAB god al Lah{“the BEST of deceivers” k3:54} isn’t YHWH the actual Biblical God.

It is just that allah has not given them the ability to see that.
muslims don’t get the ‘champion deceiver’ part.

Just as allah couldn’t protect muhammed the mass murderer of Jews{Abu Dawud 4390} from being killed by a Jewish woman, the muslims in the end will be forced to admit their antisemitic antichristian desert god al lah is not to be compared to YHWH.

Yes:let the ‘holy’ muslims kneel during the ha-tikvah{…to know where they stand}…and to know their place.

      muslims will kneel before YHWH and so will their ARAB god allah..{the god with one shin and two right hands or muhammed’s sock puppet}and his “prophet” muhammed{PBUH actual Prophecy Be Unknown to him}

It is just that they cannot figure it out yet.

I don’t care if they stand on their heads.

Play the game by the rules and learn that they’re not evil incarnate. Or they can keep doing what they’ve been doing and get the results they’ve been getting.

It’s just a bridge. They can meet people half-way or they can turn and walk away from it. And if they walk away, we’ll know that they’re just cannon fodder.

Brooklyn College: Muslim athletes kneel during Israel’s national anthem
    ………………….

There is no sportsmanship in Islam. So much for the Olympic idea that sports will bring people together.

If Brooklyn College had any spine, they would suspend these players.

    • deeperinfo says

      Feb 27, 2020 at 12:30 am

Bringing disrespect on the College is surely a violation of Student / Athlete Conduct Code (HATE CRIMES!111!!!).

Disrespecting / insulting your guests is not even acceptable to the lowest casts of arabs or muslims.

They need a class on Class.

      • mortimer says

        Feb 27, 2020 at 1:01 am

deeperinfo has an excellent point … there is such a thing as a student code of conduct when representing one’s school. This is normally a matter for the vice-principal.

      • gravenimage says

        Feb 27, 2020 at 7:00 pm

Sadly I doubt this school will enforce their codes of conduct when it comes to Muslims.

  8. Wellington says

    Feb 26, 2020 at 8:14 pm

Prediction, gravenimage: No spine at all. Easy call.

Here’s another easy call: Brooklyn College is NOT a bastion of American patriotism nor is it, considered in the aggregate, appreciative at all that Israel is the only truly free polity in the Middle East and where Israeli-Arabs possess far more freedoms than do Arabs in any of the over twenty Arab countries that exist (nevertheless, over twenty Arab countries is OK with Muslims and Lefties aplenty but one Jewish country is one too many).

  12. John W. says

    Feb 27, 2020 at 7:04 am

Should the national anthem of another country be played at a sporting event in our country between two American teams? Just asking. I’m not being an apologist for the kneeling as clearly they were not protesting simply the playing of a foreign national anthem. But the Jewish team’s allegiance is to the USA, or should be.

    • CogitoErgoSum says

      Feb 27, 2020 at 12:03 pm

I was wondering the same thing. If both teams are American and the game is being held on American soil, why is the national anthem of another country being played? It seems very divisive to me … leading to even more divisive behavior on the part of the Muslims. I don’t like foreign national anthems being played at public events in the USA anymore than I like seeing Muslims performing their prayers in public parks or on the sidewalks of our streets. If the other team were from a foreign country I could understand playing that team’s national anthem alongside the American national anthem but if both teams are American there should be only one anthem being played and sung before the game and that is “The Star Spangled Banner.”

    • gravenimage says

      Feb 27, 2020 at 7:25 pm

John and CogitoErgoSum, the Hatikvah is not just Israel’s national anthem. It dates back to the 19th century, and is surely just the school song from the Yeshiva in this context.

The idea that being Jewish means that their allegiance to the United States should be questioned is pretty sickening. On what basis would you question it?

      • gravenimage says

        Feb 27, 2020 at 7:28 pm

By the way, Brooklyn College has its own school songs. I don’t imagine the Yeshiva students took a knee while they were playing.

        • CogitoErgoSum says

          Feb 27, 2020 at 8:21 pm

Graven, the article made it sound like the song was being played as a national anthem, not as a school fight song. How does it fit in with something like a volleyball match? Is there something about it that encourages aggression against an enemy? (I’ve spent more time learning about Islam than I have about Judaism.)

        • gravenimage says

          Feb 27, 2020 at 8:25 pm

CogitoErgoSum, I think Muslims would hate this just because it is a Jewish song and is used as the Israeli national anthem.

But the lyrics can also be interpreted as Zionist, so this would send most Mohammedans over the edge.

        • gravenimage says

          Feb 27, 2020 at 8:37 pm

          I looked up the issue:

“YU President Ari Berman told the Observer that the two Brooklyn College players ‘disrespected Israel’s national anthem. We are proud to be the only university who sings both the American and Israeli national anthems before every athletic competition and major event.’”

          https://jewishjournal.com/news/nation/311075/two-brooklyn-college-students-take-a-knee-while-hatikvah-plays-before-volleyball-match-at-yeshiva-univ/

So this can be seen both as the Israeli national anthem and–in this context–one of Yeshiva University’s school songs.

        • CogitoErgoSum says

          Feb 27, 2020 at 8:48 pm

Well, I looked up the lyrics on Wikipedia. If what is there is correct I don’t see the song as being appropriate for a volleyball game where both teams are composed of Americans. The song expresses the yearning of a scattered people to return to their homeland. What’s wrong with being in America? Furthermore, in my opinion it’s not the type of song to sing at a sports event to encourage team spirit.

        • gravenimage says

          Feb 28, 2020 at 11:13 pm

CogitoErgoSum, you can take that stand if you want to. Are you going to try and get it banned?

      • John W. says

        Feb 27, 2020 at 8:03 pm

I know you are a top poster here and know way more than I, but I never said anything about all Jewish people and their allegiance or lack thereof to the United States. You are putting words in my mouth. I was speaking of the issue within a specific context. If what you say is true about it just being a school song in that context, then fine. I accept that. No need to get so over the top and say what i said was “pretty sickening”. Ilhan Omar I am not. 🙂

        • gravenimage says

          Feb 27, 2020 at 8:34 pm

Actually, John, you were questioning the Jewish students’ allegiance to the United States. You wrote:

“But the Jewish team’s allegiance is to the USA, or should be.”

Of course, you have every right to do so. Others also have a right to question what you write. That’s how freedom of speech works.

Glad to hear that you are not questioning the allegiance of all Jews, though. Personally I think the question of Muslims’ allegiance to the US and other Western nations is more of an issue–you can certainly disagree, though.

In all fairness before a basketball game Muslim athletes refusing to stand during the Israeli national anthem is a very mild way for Muslims to send a message . In other words , that’s rather good behavior in regard for a way for a Muslim to protest.

By contrast ,quite and number a times Muslims engage in sending a message brutal vicious violence.
Even brutal vicious murderously cruel violence.

So Muslims protesting in a way of non-violence is very civilized behavior for the followers of Islam.

    Good for them !
