FGM is mandated in Islamic law: “Circumcision is obligatory (for every male and female) (by cutting off the piece of skin on the glans of the penis of the male, but circumcision of the female is by cutting out the bazr ‘clitoris’ [this is called khufaadh ‘female circumcision’]).” — Umdat al-Salik e4.3, translated by Mark Durie, The Third Choice, p. 64
Why is it obligatory? Because Muhammad is held to have said so: “Abu al- Malih ibn Usama’s father relates that the Prophet said: ‘Circumcision is a law for men and a preservation of honour for women.’” — Ahmad Ibn Hanbal 5:75
“Narrated Umm Atiyyah al-Ansariyyah: A woman used to perform circumcision in Medina. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to her: ‘Do not cut severely as that is better for a woman and more desirable for a husband.’” — Abu Dawud 41:5251
That hadith is classified as weak, but this one is classified as sahih (reliable): “Aishah narrated: ‘When the circumcised meets the circumcised, then indeed Ghusl is required. Myself and Allah’s Messenger did that, so we performed Ghusl.’” — Jami` at-Tirmidhi 108
If Muhammad had the genitals of his favorite wife, Aisha, mutilated, that is a strong endorsement of the practice from the man who is an “excellent example” (Qur’an 33:21) for Muslims.
Why does it matter whether or not FGM is Islamic? Because the practice will never be eradicated if its root causes are not confronted. As long as those Muslims continue to believe that Allah and Muhammad want it done, for some that will override all other considerations.
“Girl, 12, dies after undergoing female genital mutilation in Egypt,” by Jimmy Nsubuga, Metro News, January 31, 2020 (thanks to The Religion of Peace)
A 12-year-old girl has died in Egypt after her parents took her to a doctor who performed female genital mutilation (FGM).
The schoolgirl died in the province of Assiut, the public prosecutor said on Thursday.
Authorities have now ordered order the arrests of her parents and the physician who performed the procedure, also known as female circumcision.
Since the mid-1990s, Egypt has been battling the centuries-old practice, which is misguidedly believed to control women’s sexuality.
In 2008, a law banning the cutting of female genitalia was passed in parliament despite strong opposition from conservative voices.
A 2015 government survey found that 87% of Egyptian women and girls aged between 15 and 49 have been circumcised….
In 2016, legislators adopted amendments to the law, redefining FGM from a misdemeanour, for which offenders typically receive up to two years in prison, to a felony, which draws tougher sentences and punishments.
However, women’s rights advocates argue the law still contains loopholes.
According to Reda el-Danbouki, a human rights lawyer, the penal code criminalises the cutting of female genital organs only in cases where ‘there is no medical justification’.
He added: ‘This clause opens the door to parents as well as physicians to claim that they were not conducting female circumcision but simply removing allegedly discomforting skin growth.’…

Funny isn’t it that changing so much as one word of the Quran is deemed to be an act of blasphemy worthy of death for daring to alter Allah’s perfect word.
Makes me wonder, when Allah created Adam and Eve why didn’t he design them correctly then?
Were they expected to circumcise each other?
Aftermarket modifications shouldn’t be necessary on Allah’s perfect creations.

I was surprised to read this article about this horrific event on the BBC TV ‘Ceefax’ Pages, as 90+% of Islamic murder & mayhem is deemed not ‘newsworthy’, a few days back,[very early February, 2020]. The BBC article that the Egyptian Parliament outlawed this ‘practice’ in the early 2000’s, over 10yearsd ago. They have changed the words of Mohammed & the Koran, which is illegal, so why no uproar back then? Makes the Darling of the Apologists, Rezla Aslan, who has an ‘expertise’ of Islam more of a fraud that he is as he has repeatedly said there is no Female Circumcision in Islam. Yet a quick 10-15minute search you can actually find Mohammed’s words stating it to be so & in the texts.

The whole purpose of FGM is to remove the clitoris thus preventing the woman from feeling any pleasure when engaging in sex.
Just another way for the males of Islam (I won’t call them men), to subjugate women.
Sickens me.

Egypt: Girl, 12, dies after undergoing female genital mutilation
……………………..
*Poor child*. God, I hate Islam.
Almost 90% of girls in Egypt are mutilated. Given that Egypt is about 90% Muslim, this pretty much says it all.
Lari says
Muslims in Egypt are around 75 to 80 percent not 90 percent since there is no religious census the government tends to undercount or underestimate Christians as much as they can since Islam became the state religion in 1980. In 1974 goverment officials admitted that Christian’s were 6 million out of 38 million. Christians in Egypt are currently over 20 million with 70 percent residing in Upper Egypt as this even has been acknowledged by people with high ranking positions that has links with the government previously. However, even though Christian’s are over 20 million based on Churchs membership records including those who are not listed the government will always deny this or conceal this information and try to estimate lower than the truth as they can get away due lack of accurate proper census and previous descriminative policies. A census on religion in Egypt is extremely hard to get to assert truth and is costly. Hence why the government takes advantage underestimating Christian’s at 10~15 percent based on Cairo.
gravenimage says
Yes, it is possible that Christians are being under-counted there.
Larri says
No it is not possible but definitely undercounting Christians by underestimating them because if they reveal the truth then Christian’s can have more demands which the government never wants to happen. Moreover it will not be ideal for the government to do so because they will leak out there deliberate discriminative mistakes previously. During last 100 or so years Christian’s have nearly doubled particularly because most reside in Upper Egypt and have more children which is evident as in the past century Christian’s were 20 percent of Upper Egypt now almost 40 percent.
Marigold says
The Egyptian government sounds as if it has an uphill battle to stamp out this ghastly cruel practice. The most opposition will probably come from the mullahs who brainwash and influence their congregations.

Marigold, I think FGM being banned in Egypt is pretty much a fig leaf.

yet Detroit allows this child abuse
OLD GUY says
This should not be tolerated in the United States. But I’am fairly certain that it takes place in the muslim community and should be exposed and stoped under child abuse laws. If muslims are going to live in this country they should follow our laws or be held criminally liable, as any other citizen.
