See how easy this was? Reconciliation achieved! All is well! “Islamophobia” was averted!
“Coptic Christians Forced to Reconcile,” International Christian Concern, February 13, 2020:
02/13/2020 Egypt (International Christian Concern) – Last month, an Egyptian court sentenced to ten years in jail the individuals in Karm village responsible for stripping an elderly Coptic woman, Souad Thabet, of her clothes in 2016. Five Christian houses were burned during the incident. Following this sentence, pressure in the village has been building towards the Coptic Christian community.
Last week, a reconciliation meeting was pursued. These are meetings between Muslims and Christians where, theoretically, justice for the wrongdoing is conducted outside the judicial system. In practice, reconciliation meetings are used to force Christians to abandon their pursuit of justice, and often even force them to give up even more of their rights.
The first reconciliation meeting was held on February 2nd, as local Christians feared that the prison sentence would incite local Muslims to violence against Copts. During this meeting, the Christians changed their testimony to say that they did not see any of their houses burning. Saoud Thabet was the only one who did not change her testimony. The testimonies of those other Christians during the reconciliation session was confirmed on February 10th, leading to the judicial case to be postponed until April 16th….

Thuggery in action.
David Lee Vail says
Well, that’s the Cootics own cowardly fault! I hate it for them, but they need Saoud Thabet’s courage & convict to Stand up for themselves as it sounds like the Court System was willing to be fair in metting out true Justice for try he wrong done by the Muslims!

Typically (in the not so distant past) the police (such as they are) take their sweet time and arrive after all the hullabaloo is over. And typically if a Christian doesn’t “forgive and forget” (and thereby get any who dare intervene off their backs) FAR WORSE will happen to their loved ones and their property – as sure as rain. Techniques like this explain why Islam works.

The initial attack occurred in 2016 but the actual date is not given. Usually these things happen in more remote locations right after Friday evenings spent at the old gathering hole.

Very true, Carol.

David–with all respect–this is not the case at all. Egypt regularly persecutes Christians. If the victims had not agreed to this “reconciliation” they would have known to expect more violence.

The sentencing of the perpetrator by the Egyptian court is a step in the right direction. I hope the sentence will stand and that the Egyptian courts will move to further human rights for persecuted minorities.
Pres. Cici has put himself on record as supporting human rights. I hope he can find a way to deliver on the promise, even though Egypt is filled with millions of backward Islamist fanatics.
keith says
I don’t hold much hope for justice from a Muslim when it comes to human rights.
Remember that the Saudi government has promoted themselves as a bastion of human and female rights.
And we all know how that worked out!
In any civilized country coercion of witnesses is a serious offence.
In Muslim countries, well that’s just how it is done.

Agreed, Keith. Egypt is somewhat less hideous that it would have been under the Muslim Brotherhood, but this is damning with faint praise.

And they head the UN human right department time the UN was de funded and sent on its way by camel
ronyvo says
Mortimer, as you well know human rights does not exist in Islam. Sisi is following a sneaky (takyya) way. Don’t forget that he is Muslim and the courts are under Islamic rule. The bottom line is no hope for human rights in any Islamic country. The Copts are the most hated Christians in the ME for their strong faith and determination to keep it this way regardless of the continuous extrema horrible Islamic treatment. Sisi is the better of the two evils comparing to Mousa the fanatic Muslim Brotherhood. But, nothing has changed, not by long shot.

Yes, Ronyvo–most of this “reconciliation” is just intended to keep the victims quiet and improve Egypt’s reputation.
James Lincoln says
I spent some time in Cairo and Hurghada Egypt back in the mid 1990s.
It was much safer for Christians before the 2011 Arab Spring / 2013 Egyptian coup d’état…
And since Morsi’s overthrow, violence against Coptic Christians has skyrocketed.
Jim says
I wonder if the Copts ever think back to how things were in Egypt before the Muslims invaded and took over their country. I wonder if they regret the dhimmi pact they made with their new masters, relegating them to permanent second-class status.
Larri says
I wonder if Muslims in Egypt would think what would there situation be like without the start of Arab Muslim rulers in Egypt slowly forcing Copts to Islam with its peak converting to Islam in the 15th century. Learn history not assumptions and myths since most Muslims in Egypt are originally Copts. These incidents are well known in backward unknowledgeble residents in villages like this one. The best is to apply the law strictly to deter future incidents from happening.
ronyvo says
Yes, Jim, the Copts blame their ancestors who allowed the Islamic invasion 1400+ ago and did not fight against the small Muslim army. Now, they are living in fear and cannot do anything about it. After the attack against the US of 9/11, some hope rose as international wake up would warn the West of the extreme danger of this system. However, look what is happening, the same what happened to Egypt 1400+ years ago!!! Evil won and keep wining.
Alice W says
OH, Father God in Heaven, how long must your saints suffer in the Middle East from oppression of the Muslim god?
LORD, that you might open their eyes and hearts and repent and turn from their wicked ways I pray.

Egypt: Muslims strip elderly Christian woman, burn Christian homes, force victims to recant their testimony
……………….
Yes–this state-enforced “reconciliation” by Christians to their Muslim persecutors could not be more perverse.
