Exposing the role that Islamic jihad theology and ideology play in the modern global conflicts

The Fashionization of Islam

Feb 5, 2020 8:00 am By Aynaz Anni Cyrus

Again our Western world media has just celebrated #WorldHijabday, while in the Islamic world,  hundreds of Iranian women are being arrested and put in prison for removing their hijab. That Islamic oppression of women is steadily coming here, by our media’s own hands. The fashion industry leads much of that dangerous change.

In 2019, Nike expanded on their Pro Hijab brand by releasing The Victory Collection. The new market niche adds performance-wear options for Muslim watersport athletes. Choice for women is good. But now Nike just makes it that much harder for women athletes who might otherwise choose to leave Islam.

Before long, following the pattern of Sharia states, it is not inconceivable that this gear could become mandatory for all women competitors — Muslims will next demand it, as officials will bow to their charges of an uneven playing field.

Such fashion marketing can normalize even Islam’s worst elements, such as jihad violence. In fact, we have already seen jihad imagery flow into Islamofashion marketing. In their Fall-Winter 2018 runway show in Milan in February 2018, Gucci’s line began to use beheading imagery among their fashion models. They claimed it had to do with something about cyborgs, and cephalophores — figurines of saints who carried their own heads as martyrs, from medieval and Renaissance art.

Would any modern fashion audience get that ancient and obscure art reference? Or cyborgs with severed heads? Or does it instead have to do with Islam? The Left won’t directly say it. But they will put horrors which attract them right in front of our faces.

It is no shocking secret anymore that devoted Muslims of ISIS who read Quran and follow Muhammad have lately been cutting peoples’ heads off, and holding them up and placing them in positions of grotesque display. That context of gory news media imagery is what makes Gucci’s fashion art concept recognizable — instead of just inexplicable.

Gucci’s unstated nod to modern Islamic terror is obvious. The Gucci-friendly article about the fashion models carrying their own heads even noted it as “terror-inducing.”

Gucci’s display of attraction to terror imagery sends a message that opposing traditional western societal virtue is “cool.” In that sense, they give an approving nod of respect to ISIS beheaders, as rebels against the western system.

After all, if the Left did not want to suggest that mental association, then why would Gucci so obviously risk playing around with severed heads? The imagery they chose is what makes people see that association with Islamic murder and butchery.

The severed head imagery actually began in the prior year, with leftist Kathy Griffin, in her infamous photos taken in May 2017, which featured Griffin holding a model of President Donald Trump’s head dripping with blood.

So Kathy Griffin broke open the wall of taboo against severed head imagery. She breached the limits of how much it could be tolerated by our society. And then the Gucci runway show toned down the bloody gore, to make it accepted as just a new part of our culture.

So now because Gucci did it in fashion, Islamic-style beheading imagery became just part of the elite culture scene. ISIS media has competition.

But skeptics might protest that Gucci is just signalling, “Look, we are so edgy and fashionable.” After all, there can be a childlike drive to want to shock the adults, without really having a barbarous ideology of murder about it.

But in fact the fashion designers and beauty marketers have been systematically embracing the Islam-ish market for years. Designers have been marketing upscale hijabs and abayas in London and Paris stores since early 2016. The fashionable Left was said to greet the announcement of those top brand designs “with jubilation.”  And it was noted that the collection “could easily appeal to nonbelievers.” Forbes celebrated it as the “smartest move in years.” The Left love this suffocating stuff so much, they don’t want it to be just for oppressed Muslims.

Next, hijab was hailed as a “win” for fashion when New York Fashion Week debuted its first all-hijab runway show in September 2016. Hijabs for everybody. What women want to show hair and neck anyway?

Then in November 2016, CoverGirl began to feature a hijabi beauty blogger. And very rapidly, the fashionization of Islam became part of the consumer marketing landscape.

As far back as March 2017, I reported on Nike’s plan to release a sports hijab. Nike ultimately released its Nike Pro Hijab in December that year—with “moisture-wicking technology and breathable mesh for cool comfort.” Where would sports be, without the ability to breathe.

American Eagle came out with a denim hijab in July 2017. No, I can’t explain it either.

In January 2018, L’Oréal ran a campaign featuring a hijabi model. By that time, even Muslims began to become annoyed by the trend, which was being denigrated as a “hijab fetish” of product marketing.

While Gucci was deep into Islamic imagery during its February 2018 fashion show, it actually came under harsh criticism by the Left — no, not for Islamization — but for using too-white models in cultural appropriation. Gucci was asked, “Could you not find a hijabi model?”

Versace, and other luxury brands joined Gucci in the hijab imagery. Around the same time as the Milan show, in February 2018, Macy’s became the first Islamofashionized department store in the United States, with its Verona Collection.

In May 2018, H&M released an Islamized clothing line ahead of that year’s Ramadan. The company may have come late to the Islamofashion product market by that time, but they reportedly had used a hijabi model as far back as 2015. So Islam was already long in their culture view.

In summer 2018, Gap featured a smiling young girl in a hijab for its back-to-school campaign. So now it is pretty much everybody.

Marketing forces normalize things that we should not see as normal. The marketing of oppression is very dangerous. Women in Iran are fighting and risking jail to take off this ridiculous hijab. But the Left with their corporate marketing enablers are up there putting it on our own women here, as a fashion statement.

      The Islamic scarf is the ultimate symbol of patriarchy.

      The marketeers of these fashion companies are blowing hot and cold in the matter of anti-patriarchy and the EMPOWERMENT of women! On the one hand, they are denouncing patriarchy and the subjugation of women, and on the other hand, they are PROMOTING patriarchy and subjugation for Muslim women. Two-faced? Hypocritical? Are they FOR empowering women or AGAINST it? It can’t be both.

      Nike, Gucci, Gucci, H&M and other fashion companies are eager to cash in on the large 500 million Muslim women’s market. How else would someone know the target group is Muslim without the veil.

      While I sympathize with the goal of the marketeers to increase sales, they must surely be aware that they are actually normalizing misogyny and patriarchy. The cause of EMPOWERING women is something that marketeers have been exploiting in women’s ads for many years.

      They are now trying to have it BOTH ways by EMPOWERING and DISEMPOWERING at the same time.

      How ‘FASHIONABLE’ is it to smile and wink at Islamic misogyny and patriarchy?

      BTW, those sports veils are DANGEROUS and should not be allowed. In a fitness exercise class I attended a veiled Muslima overheated and fainted while doing exercises that were easy for everyone else.

      Honestly speaking, all Muslim women athletes must find those sports veils limit their performance, but they are forced to lie and pretend they don’t affect their performance to avoid more beatings!

        Muslim women all all stuffed in the head too. They believe in the little book of horrors and 50% of women are still circumcised..It not a religion but a cult that stills rounds up women for not wearing a veil..lol..I would like to, fair dinkum, ask a nutter which parts of the Qumran don’t you believe in…..I though so!! mmm

      “A key purpose of veiling is to prevent outsiders from competing with a woman’s cousins for marriage,” Dr. Stanley Kurtz said. “Attack veiling, and you are attacking the core of the Middle Eastern social system.”)

      Correct, Dude.

      Per The Big Book:

      https://quran.com/33/59

      “O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused.”

      It distinguishes Muslim women, ‘protecting’ them from Muslim mens’ ‘abuse’.

      Essentially, as you note: rape them–not us.

      Perfect summary of the “scriptural” basis for it as cited by the Slaves of Allah.

      “Hijab Day” is supported by Western women too uneducated, intellectually lazy, harebrained, dishonest, cowardly, and lacking in imagination to recognize a wholesale violation of the rights of women if it means they might be called names for condemning it.

      Stand up to men who refuse to recognize that you are a whole human being with inalienable rights — no matter WHAT religion they use as “justification”.

  2. Westman says

    Feb 5, 2020 at 9:18 am

    It may be obvious to clothing manufacturers that they can make the trappings of Islam more fasionable with better designs, higher quality materials, and precise workmanship while forgetting that they are also identifying and setting apart the most apartheid culture in the world. They might as well also add silkscreen text that emotes, “We are here to take full advantage of what governments and nations – to which we owe no loyalty – have to offer. We are only citizens of the Umma.”

    Perhaps “moderate” Muslims will buy these trappings in an effort to distinguish themselves from the more Quran-compliant jihadists, the “deplorables”, of Islam. Clothing manufacturers could cash in by promoting such a trend.

    There is also a possibility that “fasionable” Islamic clothing will create a division in Islam between Muslims demanding tradition and those looking for a more modern expression. If Islam’s women can be converted into clothes horses, it weakens Islam.

    Western women might flirt with Islamic fashion yet will not adopt it because it can never compete with Western clothing. Ugly and constrictive, remains, ugly and constrictive.

      Point taken by Westman … what the fashion companies are doing in effect is making ‘DESIGNER CHAINS’ for the slaves owned by Muslims males.

    “If they do that{i.e wear the hijab} it will be known that they are free and that they are not servants or whores”
    TAFSIR IBN KATHIR 33;59

    So ..
    NOT wearing the hijab= you as a woman are clearly a servant or a whore and you are not free from the possibility of molestation by MUSLIM men
    {the hijab is an islamic garment after all and it is to keep women subject to men’s authority:MUSLIM men}

    This statement of Ibn Kathir shows that it is really all about control over women.

    Yes,it is mandated by allah the misogynistic Arab god of islam in the koran 24;31 but you may like to know that in the SAME, surah allah says “on the day when their tongues and their hands and their feet testify AGAINST them as to what they used to do” koran 24:24

    Talking feet,talking hands and so presumably…talking heads {of the beheaded}

    Note to feminists and lefties:

    The hijab is worn in honor of al LAH a pagan ARAB god who hates women and teaches that they are only ,in islamic law,worth HALF a man{k2:282} due to what muhammed said was “the deficiency of a woman’s mind”:remember that when you put on the hijab!

        Note from the same source Tafsir Ibn kathir surah 33 {al ahzab,ayat 59-62}that..
        The wearing of the hijab is to distinguish them from “the women of the jahiliyah and slave women”

        And note that the non-muslim women{i.e ‘infidel’ women who don’t wear the jijbab} do not appear to have any honor and are classified alongside servants and whores:islamic apartheid in action ,along with the koranic classification of humanity into muslims{“the best community” k3:110} versus non-muslim infidels {“the worst of mankind”koran 98:6}

        muslimas wear the jilbab{=Honor}
        servants/whores/infidel women don’t{=not worthy of any Honor}

    I have just had a look at the ‘World Hijab Day’ website. It seems to be a catalogue self-centred egocentric indulgence and highly suspect veracity (the opinion polls seem to be somewhat contrived). The impression one gets is that the organisers of this event seem to think that islam and associated issues are such a matter of primary concern and importance to the world at large that we all have to make them and their various little peccadillos a matter top priority fro everyone. Frankly, I couldn’t give a toss about what they do or wear unless it directly impinges on myself and my fellows in this part of the world, and that is where the problem lies. As a result of a whole history of well-documented criminal outrages linked to muslims here in the West, Islam is now seen as considerable threat to our safety and well-being, and our national and cultural integrity. Therefore any visible manifestation of the presence of islam and its adherents in our societies now automatically evinces a negative response, as one should logically expect in the circumstances. I really don’t care whether or not these women feel ‘liberated’ or ’empowered’, or whatever – that is their concern. I am more concerned about the consequences of having ‘liberated’ and ’empowered’ muslims loose in MY society on my own safety and well-being. And that’s most definitely NOT good, as events have shown

    Nike backed the ignorant, unpatriotic doofus, Kaepernick. Think Kaepernick knows that the 1830 census showed that almost 4,000 free blacks owned almost 13,000 black slaves, especially in the Carolinas, that the Five Civilized Tribes (Choctaw, Cherokee, Creek, Chickasaw and Seminole) in what became Oklahoma sided with the Confederacy in order to preserve their black slave system {the last Confederate General to surrender to Union troops was General Stand Watie, a Cherokee chieftain} and that per FBI statistics an American policeman is 18 times more likely to be killed by a young black male than the other way around? Yeah, think Kaepernick knows any of this?

    And now Nike with this glorification of a symbol that should be ranked with the swastika and the hammer and sickle as a sartorial representation of an oppressive, ungracious, intolerant, freedom-hating, totalitarian ideology—Islam.

    I’ve begun compiling a list of companies complicit in the normalization of Islam in the West — and I’m determined to never do business with those corporate Quislings again, until the unlikely day when they admit their wrongdoing and publicly apologize.

    This includes companies who use ad campaigns that prominently feature bearded Muslims, and Muslimas in headscarves or hajibs, which seem to be the new “thing” here in the U.S., even though Allah junkies make up less than 2% of the population. No doubt this virtue-signalling makes the clueless CEOs of these companies feel pretty awesome about themselves. And I’m sure these ads generate warm & fuzzy feelings among the PC Lefties and ANTIFA thugs who see them.

If you are a non muslim women and you ware the hijab as a fashion statement you are slapping the face of freedom for muslim women around the world who are forced to ware the hijab or be beaten and killed.

    This hijab also represents the Islam religion that mutilates the genitals of females, beatings of females who disobey their families wishes, commits honor killings of females, promotes child marriage and rape of young girls. So don’t promote Islam as a peaceful loving religion, when in fact it is anything but.
