The US/Taliban peace talks have been a grim charade. No one in the foreign policy establishment will acknowledge the fact, but the Taliban are strict, Sharia-observant Muslims, and the Sharia guidelines for treaty-making with Infidels are based on Muhammad’s Treaty of Hudaybiyya. Muslims can only enter into such a treaty when they are weak and need time to gather their strength (or, more remotely, if they think the enemy is about to convert to Islam). Then they can break it when it is no longer needed. The Taliban will not honor whatever treaty is made.
However, if it enables Trump to get US troops out of Afghanistan, then it will have at least one good result. Yes, the Taliban will gain when the troops are gone. That would be true no matter when we left. What we need is a better strategy, one that contains jihad activity within Afghanistan and doesn’t allow them to target Americans again. We don’t need American troops there until the end of time.
“U.S., Taliban to Sign Landmark Peace Deal to End War in Afghanistan,” by Adam Kredo, Washington Free Beacon, February 29, 2020:
The Trump administration is poised to sign a landmark peace accord Saturday morning with the Taliban terrorist organization more than 18 years after the United States first entered Afghanistan following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City.
In a move that U.S. officials say could end the nation’s longest war in history, the Trump administration announced it has reached a truce that will massively scale down the American military presence with the expectation of an eventual full withdrawal….
Rumors of the long-percolating deal have been circulating in Washington, D.C., for weeks, prompting a group of Republican members of Congress to petition the Trump administration against going through with the agreement. They and other critics say the Taliban cannot be trusted to implement peace and that the moment U.S. forces vacate the country, terror forces will again rise to power.
The Trump administration had declared peace talks with the Taliban dead in September after abruptly canceling a meeting at Camp David between the United States and the Taliban. However, channels between the two sides remained open, leading to Saturday’s announcement.
The Trump administration is now committed to giving the deal a shot. The United States intends to scale down its troop presence from some 14,000 troops to around 8,600 by the end of the year—a number administration officials insist is enough to do the job of keeping the fragile peace deal alive….
“There’s been broad support for what we’re trying to do,” according to the senior administration official, who briefed reporters on background. “Everybody has the same goals. No one wants to see the return of the Islamic Emirate.”
Officials further acknowledged that there is no military path to victory in Afghanistan.
“The 30,000-foot conclusion by all parties is that a military solution is not possible without endless amounts of resources,” the official said. “Everybody decided the best way forward was a political settlement, rather than a military solution. The Taliban has not been defeated. They represent a portion of Afghan society” that must be included in discussions.
U.S. officials also pushed back against criticism that the signing ceremonies represent a photo opportunity and little more.
“This is not just optics in any way,” the official said. “This is historic. We have worked out a deal with them where they make commitments to us on counterterror that matter to us.”
This includes cracking down on the remnants of al Qaeda in Afghanistan and giving up the near-constant barrage of terror attacks.
“We made commitments to them. If they fulfill their commitments, we’re prepared to proceed with pulling out our troops. We never wanted a permanent” presence in Afghanistan, the official said. “It’s just the beginning. It’s a whole new stage of challenges we’re launching here.”
However, Afghanistan “is not going to become Switzerland overnight,” the official conceded.

This is a copy of the post I posted on Epoch Times. I am constantly sickened by the total and complete understand of Islam of our gov’t officials and their inability to do even a simple search.
OMG. Did anybody read the Quran, the Sunnah, the Ahdiths? The Fiqh or the Reliance of the Travler? If they had you would know war is deceit and Mohammed lets you sign treaties when you are weak only to be broken when you are strong. Does anybody in the so called peace agreement, outside of the Taliban, understand this?
Steve says
won’t let me edit. should be “complete LACK of understanding” NOT “complete understand”

Response to Steve: our elites don’t want to learn anything about Islam. Many never read a book. They get their info from biased, globalist networks such as CNN. They have surrounded their minds with a wall higher than the new walls between Texas and Mexico.
Islam is an extraordinarily complex ideology that uses dozens of mutually contradictory dualisms. How do you explain that to those complacent, supercilious know-it-alls?
You have to reduce everything you say to Leftists to a short 10-word formula or you cannot get through to them. The political formula to explain Islamism must have the concision of a scientific formula like E=MC squared.
Islam has nothing to do with Islam … if one is a Leftard. (sarc/off)

Steve
Are you advocating
a. That we remain there indefinitely, like the neocons demand?
b. That we leave there w/o any agreement w/ the Taliban, as suggested by people like Rand Paul?
I get the logic behind b – that we don’t have to stay there, and that we just leave and forget that country for good. We already have most of the internal protections to make sure that no such attack ever happens again.
Until we deport all Muslims from the US, there will always be some vulnerability, but that vulnerability won’t be either enhanced or reduced by leaving troops in Afghanistan.
Ginny says
Yes. Exactly.
Steve says
U missed the entire point. The U.S. Gov’t is ignorant of Islam. Having served in Iraq and Afghanistan it is a hopeless venture. We should have left long ago and simply contained the area the same way fires are contained so they cannot spread. They have been at it and at each other for over 1400 years and being in the middle of it doesn’t help. The Taliban will come back once they regain their strength. Then we either get to go back because we should have stayed or we begin to contain. As for deporting all Muslims, as much as I agree, it will never happen. None of us will live long enough to give through all the litigation to stop it.
Infidel says
Thank you for your service!
I get your point, but my point was that there is nothing that we’ll achieve in Afghanistan, which is why sending any American there is a futile exercise. I don’t think anybody can explain to any enlistee why s/he is being sent to that country, b’cos there ain’t a good reason. Yeah, the Taliban may well return to power, but if it does, our policy should be to make sure that nobody who goes to Afghanistan gets anywhere near the US. Essentially, add Pakistan and Afghanistan to the travel ban list

I am reminded of the way the US forces had Osama and his gang pinned down in a valley in the Afghanistan mountains, but it was getting late so all combatants agreed to an overnight truce to take care of the injured.
When morning came however, Osama and many more had snuck away in the dark. Now we have another agreement. They wanted the troops out of there, so they agreed to the treaty. But we can expect little else from it.

Walter Sieruk says
Having a” peace deal” agreement with the Taliban is like making “a deal withe devil” With the empty insincere words of the Taliban and their lying promises is an agreement for disaster for the future of the people of Afghanistan and a dishonor to all the American troops who had been murdered by the Taliban in Afghanistan in the years after 9/11.
Just last year on the morning of April 17, 2019 on FOX NEWS television the subject was covered about the idea of having “peace talks “with the Taliban. Viewing the history of the Taliban when they were in power in Afghanistan and the brutal ruthless misogyny they had engaged in was both vicious and malicious to the extreme.
Therefore the question, naturally, was brought up, now that peace talks” might soon begin, the Taliban was asked if they return to power in Afghanistan “ would they respect female rights ?”
To that question the Taliban replied “that when back in power they would respect.
Women‘s rights but only to the limits of the cultural of will they permit those rights of women.”
The point is that the “cultural of Afghanistan” is really the religion of Afghanistan, which is Islam.
Therefore the reality is that female rights, for both girls and woman, will not exist in a future Taliban controlled Islamic state of Afghanistan . For Islam is a religion of harsh and malice- filled misogyny.
As explained in the book, by Brigitte Gabriel, of the title THEY MUST BE STOPPED. Her book informs the readers on page 172. “Woman in Islam are considered unclean, deemed inferior even to dirt.”
Walter Sieruk says
To trust the Taliban to keep their promise not to engage in the brutal cruel violence of Qu ‘ran based savage behavior is just like trusting the promise of a fish not to swim .
Any “peace” agreement with Taliban is a “fools deal.” The very idea of having actual, real, genuine productive “peace talks” with those brutal ,cruel misogynistic Taliban characters is an absurd and fool idea of folly.
One thing is for sure, even if even attempting to engage on “peace talks” with Taliban it would be best not to be naive about them and take at face value anything that they might say or promise. To just “give trust away” to those Islamic characters who compose the Taliban would be foolishness and folly. For when trying to have genuine negotiations with the them ,it need to be kept in mind that there is an Islamic doctrine called TAQIYYA This is the Muslim dogma the lying and deception are good things to do, if and as long as the lies and deceit are done for the advancement of Islam.
For the deceptive and disingenuous Taliban have proven many times over, by their own actions, that they are a ruthless, brutal vicious gang of thugs with no honor. So in any kind of “dialogue” the Taliban will most likely speak the truth only when it happened to suite them. The rest of the time they will be speaking half-truths and also be outright lying. Likewise, the Taliban will keep their word in anything that they may happen to promise only and long as in fits into their agenda and no longer. So before engaging of the foolishness of attempting to have genuine “talks for a peace alliance” with Taliban, the officials of the current government would do well to heed the wisdom of Sun Tzu found in THE ART OF WAR. For it instructs “We cannot enter into an alliance neighboring’s princes, until we are acquainted with their designs.” To put this in a more updated and current way, it may be said that “We cannot enter into a peace alliance with the Taliban until we know the actual intentions and real schemes.”
Furthermore, if attempting to engage in “peace talks” with Taliban it would be very naive to take at face value anything that the Taliban might promise. For example, the Taliban might say that they will respect the rights of women and girls, for they ,many times, employ the Islamic doctrine of Taqiyya In those so called “negotiations” with officials of the West .Taaqyia ids the Islamic teaching that lying and deceit
So it may be nothing but foolishness and folly to even try to have worthwhile constructive peace discussions with lying brutal cruel men who make up the Taliban . For having a genuine practical peace compromise with Taliban might be impossible
As the former US President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, had well-spoken when he said “There has never been – there never can be – successful compromise between good and evil.”

jewdog says
We should long ago have forced a secular puppet government into power in Afghanistan. That country harbored Islamic terrorists who attacked us and should have been fair game for complete conquest. Now we are once again going to pay for our weakness and ignorance.
Infidel says
No, Jewdog, unfortunately, we can’t use the military tactics that Genghiz Khan used in Herat, or which the Soviets used throughout Afghanistan. We did install Karzai, and all we created was an Afghan kleptocracy, backed up by some horrible management by the military. When we spend some $60 million to build a gas station there, it’s obvious that those running things have no clue about what they are doing
We’re not gonna pay at all as long as we keep a tight check on all islamic activity in the US. And if we don’t, having or not having troops in Helmand or Ghazni won’t make a difference
No Muzzies Here says
They will break the treaty, as they always do. The best way to protect ourselves is to lock the borders to anyone and everyone from certain Muslim-majority countries. shoehorn says
POTUS just announced will bring our people back home, and the Taliban (if they do what they said they’d do) will carry on the job of killing terrorists. Gotta luv it!
Infidel says
Well, one thing here: while the Taliban was and remains a vicious jihadist group, they are an Afghan jihadist group and belong in Afghanistan. However, they’ve had a falling out w/ both al Qaeda and ISIS – both of which are trying to make their own base in Afghanistan.
So let the Taliban combat those 2 groups – not out of any altruistic motive like say, a Gen Sisi in Cairo, but rather, out of their own selfish desire to retain control over all jihadist activity within Afghanistan
And whether they allow girls to read and write, or force them to marry at 6 or 9, is none of our business. If we could allow Afghanistan to write a constitution that stated that no law can contravene the laws of islam, we have no business worrying about whether or not Afghans would be re-islamized. That buraq has taken off into the night sky
gravenimage says
Jihadists fight other Jihadists all the time–it is just violent jockeying for power.

The United States intends to scale down its troop presence from some 14,000 troops to around 8,600 by the end of the year—a number administration officials insist is enough to do the job of keeping the fragile peace deal alive….
The deal won’t be worth the paper it’s written on. But some political processes, especially the laughably named Mideast Peace Process… must be processed. Can’t blame Trump for that.
As for the troops over there, it must be tough fighting in Dar al-Islam. Taking shots in a program to de-submit Submission, the name of Islam, has to be troubling for them. No wonder PTSD rates are so high among fighters returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Wilfred says
Let American soldiers return home & enjoy some time with their families. This peace treaty will only help these maniacs to regroup. They have already said that they will abide by the rules as long as they are compatible with the Sharia. First let them regroup & fight among themselves on Shia, Sunni & ethnic agendas. Once they shift their focus to the outside world another war is inevitable. Islamic doctrine openly preaches war against non believers. And they will definitely covertly receive support from Pakistan for Jihad which is a known as a cradle for terrorism.
Chand says
You are basically right, Wilfred. But with the US troops gone the Taliban will take over Afghanistan again, probably. It will not be good for its Central Asian neighbors and India.
Infidel says
That is the problem of those countries, not the US. Yeah, we remember 9/11: that said, Afghanistan still has a constitution that cannot violate islamic law, thereby making any real progress impossible. The US should withdraw all troops, and the best solution for Afghanistan is what I suggested elsewhere in this page: have the OIC put together a peacekeeping force from Muslim countries that do not have a history of interfering in Afghanistan, and pay them for it. Countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and Egypt. Let them keep the peace, so that the Afghans don’t see them as a foreign infidel force
PRCS says
Many nations have wasted their time, blood and treasure there because the typical Afghan mindset remains stuck in the 7th century: though many now have AK-47s, RPGs, cell phones, and small motorcycles parked outside their mud huts.
Oh, and they also have some really nice new roads now, too.
Geoffrey Britain says
The author states, “What we need is a better strategy, one that contains jihad activity within Afghanistan and doesn’t allow them to target Americans again.”
Those on the Left will not allow the implementation and maintenance of a “better strategy”. We cannot deal effectively with Islam and its agents because the Left hamstrings all efforts to do so.
tgusa says
Our fools call the taliban brutal and repressive but in reality they are strict adherents to islamic law and all the kings horses and all the kings men will never change that. We really shouldn’t leave any targets behind.

Peace for our time.

Infidel says
I’ve suggested this before, and I’ll say it again. The US should get the OIC to put together a Muslim peacekeeping force from Muslim countries that don’t have a history in Afghanistan, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh and Egypt, and use that to replace both US and NATO troops. The OIC’s role would be to make sure that Afghanistan doesn’t become a launching pad for Jihad, and that if it does, all its members would be subject to sanctions.
And then pull all foreign non-Muslim troops home
Wellington says
Your proposal would be an improvement, Infidel, but only because it would result in Muslims killing other Muslims rather than Muslims killing non-Muslims.
Islam is hopeless and the non-Muslim world needs to proceed from this starting point. Hasn’t yet. Not even close.
gravenimage says
Infidel, no Muslim country has any interest in fighting the Taliban–not even Afghanistan.
Infidel says
They don’t have to fight the Taliban – they just have to settle there as peacekeepers, and hopefully, if they have the endorsements of the OIC and their bigwigs – the Saudis, Qatar, Emirates and so on, the Taliban won’t look at them as a foreign occupying force. And they can remain neutral in Afghanistan’s internal affairs, while making sure that non-Afghan jihadists don’t find a home there (Afghan jihadists interested only in Afghanistan is a different matter)
As Wellington noted, it is an improvement over having US or NATO troops there
gravenimage says
Infidel, I don’t think any Muslim country wants to be in Afghanistan as a peacekeeping force, either.
Infidel says
Maybe, but countries like Bangladesh and Egypt could use the money, if the OIC paid them to do it. The OIC’s interest: so that Muslim lands ain’t occupied by infidel armies like the US
gravenimage says
Maybe, Infidel–but this would likely bring unwanted Jihadist attention on Egypt and Bangladesh and any other participating Muslim polity.
Infidel says
gravenimage
Let them go there under the auspices of the OIC – not under Egyptian or Bangladeshi flags, but under an OIC banner. Have the Saudis and other leaders of the OIC administer and finance it, and make them totally own what goes on in Afghanistan
If fighting breaks out b/w any Afghan faction – be it the Taliban, the Tajiks, the Hazaras or anybody else – let them be the ones to sort it out. I’m sure the quran can be their guide
gravenimage says
US to sign peace deal with Taliban and move toward full withdrawal of American troops
……………….
I heard about this this morning–utter stupidity.
Generally the Trump administration has been pretty savvy, but this is just more ludicrous kabuki theater. How can anyone believe that the Taliban will not run amok the moment we leave–assuming they can stay their savagery even that long?
Infidel says
Let’s say they do run amok, and worst case, seize power in Kabul. We then add them to the travel ban and totally isolate them. They won’t have the power to do anything outside Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Remember, 9/11 happened in no small measure b’cos we allowed those 19 to come to the US in the first place. It’s not like they hijacked a plane from Kabul to Manhattan and Arlington and blew up those places. So if we fix that (and the travel ban has gone a long way in ensuring it), we would have eliminated that threat.
Whether the future Sharbet Gulas go to school or not is really none of our business: we have enough problems ensuring that our own kids are adequately prepared for the job market
Chand says
The Taliban back in power in Afghanistan will be bad news to most of her neighbors, especially the Central Asian Stans and India. Global Jihadis will surely get a booster shot and they might find sanctuary again there, to plot and practice their jihadi attacks worldwide.
And the Afghani masses will be under a brutal, oppressive and backward regime again.
I don’t think it is time yet to withdraw foreign troops yet. And I don’t think Muslim soldiers from Islamic countries have the skills or the gumption to take on the Taliban, let alone defeat them if attacked.
Ginny says
Although Europe won’t admit it, this will be bad news for those countries who still open their doors to Muslim psychopaths. Maybe if the Taliban migrates entirely to the West, peace will indeed have a chance in Afghanistan.
Infidel says
It’s been 19 freaking years. By your definition, it’ll never be time to withdraw foreign troops.
But whatever the case, infidel troops don’t belong there, and don’t deserve to risk life and limb. Send an OIC peacekeeping army to that country, and let them manage it
gravenimage says
Infidel, mostly I hate fantasy-based diplomacy. Why should we pretend that the savage Taliban–who ran the most barbaric Muslim polity in modern history until the Islamic State–are reasonable people for us to negotiate with?
Infidel says
gravenimage, I’d be fine w/ the US unilaterally withdrawing troops, but then, just like everybody howled when we withdrew from Syria and left the Kurds to themselves, similarly, they’d howl that we let down the Afghan government.
I think we should withdraw under this new deal, but like I’ve suggested elsewhere in this thread, work out a deal w/ the Saudis to have the OIC fill in a peacekeeping role in Afghanistan, and then make it their problem. Have the oil rich members of the OIC fund this operation, and pay the Bangladeshes of the organization to provide the troops. It’ll be a win-win for everybody
gravenimage says
Infidel, you are right that we will be blamed regardless.
But as I said, I don’t think that any Muslim country will want to deal with this. When have Muslims ever served as proper peacekeepers?
Chand says
Have to agree with you here, gravenimage.
gravenimage says
I was not saying that we should never stop vainly trying to civilize Afghanistan–I am saying that we should not pretend that we can negotiate with the brutal Taliban, who have never kept to any truces they have signed.
Infidel says
Oh, we absolutely must stop trying to civilize Afghanistan, since we’ve already helped them put together a constitution that precludes any law that flies in the face of islamic law.
Since official Washington is never gonna admit that the root of Afghanistan’s problems is islam, islam and more islam, we need to stop chasing that fantasy that they can ever be civilized
IslamKills says
Yellow bellied Americans running from the battlefield again. Destroy these disgusting animals now. It worked for Japan.
Infidel says
Japan had 2 nukes dropped on them, surrendered in the war and were completely occupied by US troops, the emperor had to publicly announce that he was not divine and Japan was forced to transform into a totally different country.
How did that ‘work for Japan’, if the Japan we’re talking about is Tojo’s Japan?
Wellington says
American military men killed far more Japanese soldiers than the Japanese did Americans—over 10 to one. If you studied the Pacific Theater in WWII there is no way a fair assessment could ever lead to any conclusion but that the American soldier (and sailors) performed heroically and extremely capably.

President Trump is finally unraveling one of the worst American made blunders in US history.
President Reagan used Pakistan and the Mujahideen rebels to expel the Soviets from their client state Afghanistan. Once accomplished a new power filled the vacuum (Taliban and al-Qaeda) These wonderful islamists allowed Sunni terrorists from around the world to gather and train new armies for global jihad. Osama bin Laden was one of the prime benefactors who turned his sights on America’s assets around the world. It may have even helped influence the 21 Saudis who attacked the USA on 9/11.
footnote-
A feckless GW Bush invades Afghanistan right after 9/11 but allows Osama bin Laden to escape Tora Bora at the request of Saudi Prince Bandar.
After 9/11 the US is firmly in Afghanistan and the US State Department believes they can now use the fractured nation as a nuclear missile launch pad against then Soviet Union or now Christian Russia. It turns out the Taliban who we trained and supplied weapons to also hates the US as much as the Mujahideen hated the communist Soviets. Now the US is packing its bags just like the Soviets did in 1989.
Here is a lesson that the West will soon forget – Never, and I mean never use a Muslim nation to fight a war that you should fight yourself. We did the same with the Turks now they beat our service personnel when caught off base and they purchase strategic weapon systems from our international enemies.
Thanks President Trump, you really do care for our soldiers overseas placed in maniacal wars of occupation.

Absolutely true. And Pakistan, like Belgium, is not a real country. Just like Belgium is a combination of Dutch-ish Flanders and French-ish Walloonia, similarly Pakistan is a combination of Afghan Pashtunistan and Indo-Islamic Panjab and Sind. Let those 2 countries roast together in a multi-ethnic civil war b/w Pashtuns/Pathans on one side vs Panjabis/Sindis in Pakistan and vs Tajiks, Hazaras and Turkmen in Afghanistan
