At the end of March:
Boko Haram terrorists killed at least 92 Chadian soldiers in the deadliest attack on the nation’s forces, Chad President Idriss Deby Itno said.
Chad responded:
Its soldiers have killed some 1,000 jihadists in an operation on the islands of Lake Chad that targeted Boko Haram fighters.
According to Foreign Policy, “Boko Haram extremists have killed tens of thousands and forced millions from their homes during their more than decade-long insurgency.”
A faction of the jihad group pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in 2015. Since the fall of the Islamic State’s caliphate in Iraq and Syria, the group has redirected its efforts to Africa, particularly in the Sahel region. Since “the coronavirus pandemic, the battle against jihadi terrorism in Africa’s vast Sahel region has taken one of its deadliest turns yet.”
Now governments in the region are left to grapple with the increasing violence of the Islamic State, which is sure to be a continued threat to the West given the reality of open-door Europe, where immigration flows will resume once the coronavirus pandemic ends. This will allow the further infiltration of Islamic State jihadis into Europe.

N’Djamena, Chad (AP) — Chad says its soldiers have killed some 1,000 jihadists in an operation on the islands of Lake Chad that targeted Boko Haram fighters.
Army spokesman Col. Azem Bermandoa said late Thursday that 52 soldiers also were killed and 196 others wounded during the eight days of fighting. The operation cleared the extremists from the islands in a vast area between Chad, Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon, he said.
