The container ship “MV Marina” collected 79 boat migrants off Malta, without taking into account the risks that welcoming them could cause. The “rescued” have been on the ship since Sunday and are stuck for the time being, causing aggression among those wishing to travel and triggering anxiety among the crew, who have barricaded themselves for safety reasons. Obviously there is a risk to life and limb. The shipping company is now warning of an escalation on board the ship.
Some merchant ships already experienced a shock after the “sea rescue” of “shipwrecked boat refugees”, e.g. the oil tanker “El Hiblu 1” was hijacked – migrants revolted on the “Vos Thalassa” and threatened the ship’s crew.

The background to this is that the freighter rescued 79 refugees from the sea off Malta on Sunday. The crew acted at Malta’s request, the shipping company said. However, the ship does not have enough supplies to supply people on board and has so far not been allowed to enter any port.
The owner of the shipping company, Thies Klingenberg, told NDR Schleswig-Holstein that there were first outbreaks of aggression on Wednesday afternoon.
