This story is full of absurdities showing up some of the maladies of the West today. Why was this jihad terrorist allowed to come and go for medical treatment? Why was he collecting aid? He retained his Austrian citizenship because he doesn’t have any other, but in going to fight for the Islamic State, he committed himself to citizenship in the ISIS caliphate, an entity that was and is at war with Austria. This should not be ignored by Austrian authorities. They are fools to ignore it.
“IS fighter retains citizenship,” translated from “IS-Kämpfer behält Staatsbürgerschaft,” Wien ORF.at, June 15, 2020 (thanks to Medforth):
Azad G. had made headlines several times: a year after leaving Syria in 2013, he returned to his hometown of Vienna to receive multiple outpatient treatments for a gunshot wound. During this leave from the front he 14 times collected 885.47 euros in minimum security. Then he traveled to Syria again.
After the case became known, the municipal department MA 35 wanted to revoke his Austrian citizenship. However, the Vienna Administrative Court canceled the decision on April 20, as Beatrix Hornschall, the vice president of the Vienna Administrative Court, confirmed to Vienna Today. Because Austrian citizenship would only be withdrawn if you had dual citizenship.
Azad G. not a Turkish citizen
The MA 35 assumed that Azad G. is an Austrian-Turkish dual citizen. “We have our knowledge from the naturalization files of that time,” MA 35 said in February regarding the ongoing revocation proceedings against several alleged IS fighters.
In the case of Azad G. “it was only in the appeal procedure before the Vienna Administrative Court that the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey announced by way of legal aid that the applicant was not a Turkish citizen. There are no indications that he holds any other citizenship. Because the complainant is only in possession of Austrian citizenship, this cannot be withdrawn from him, according to the clear legal wording of section 33 (2) of the Citizenship Act, as this would render him stateless,” said Hornschall.
Location currently unknown
According to the State Department, the current “whereabouts of Azad G. are unknown”. He is said to have been captured by Kurdish soldiers. There was a video of him in the previous year saying, “I hope you can see that I am repentant.”…

This is happening because the politicians and the Vatican have decided to let this happen and the media looks the other way. The overall narrative of the media is always about how persecuted Muslims are. This is going on in every non Muslim country in the world. Expose their agenda!

What happened to our politicians why are they doing this to us.They look at their vote banks and turning this world into hell. Now this jihadi will go back and kill hundreds of people and again come back for other treatment. We need to come united against it and make them realize if the vote is the only thing they are cared about then they will not get one from us if they do not stop doing this to the country.

We were told that ISIS ‘citizens’ burned their previous passports. While it is now considered important to prevent statelessness, a returning jihadist traitor could be given options: either a lengthy jail sentence for treason or staying in some Islamic paradise such the fabulous Berzerkistan. Western countries should all have special isolated islands for segregating jihadists from the regular prison population. These traitors should be punished to the full extent of the law for physically fighting against their country.

well said, mortimer!
since governments have an almost perfect historical record of abusing their citizens to a horrifying extent, i do not trust *A*N*Y* government with the power to kill anybody other than enemy soldiers or criminals in a firefight (although war GUARANTEES that innocent enemy civilians will be killed; there is nothing that can be done about that). that said, i see absolutely NO problem with locking up a criminal for the remainder of his lifetime, regardless how long that might be, given a heinous enough crime (and if treason is not enough, this monster’s crimes against humanity in syria no doubt qualify him for eternal lockup). should the prisoner’s innocence ever be established, he can at least be freed and given monetary compensation; a dead innocent person will remain dead, and nothing will *E*V*E*R* make up for that.

I would believe a jihadist was repentant if he led seminars and training sessions for convicted jihadists and taught them why they should abandon Islam.

well, yes, … but only if he were kept in prison while teaching the classes and watched constantly by people who understand islam for a few years, both inside the classroom and out. once he had convinced several other pious muslims that islam was simply a construct used by pervert muhammed to keep himself in power and to justify his piratical behavior, he could then be trusted … somewhat.

In these cases rendering someone stateless could be a very good solution. Such a person can then only worry and concentrate on how to get through the day, finding food and shelter and not having time left for any naughty jihadi thoughts like killing non-moslims (I prefer to use the term “infidel” for muslims, as our ancestors used to do). There are already so many roaming tramps who don’t necessarily deserve their plight. If he does do something wrong, perhaps it would be a good idea to establish a prison like Guantanamo in Europe, preferably somewhere in the middle of the sea, perhaps close to a maritime windmill park for electricity, to put away such good for nothing people in. They can radicalise there all they want, as long as they are never released it doesn’t really matter all that much. The guards must be properly vetted though. There are plenty of solutions, but one must just dare implement them and rewrite or reinterpret certain laws to make it possible. It would save so many innocent lives.
