Extremely odd: apparently there is still a modicum of sanity in the court system.
“Appeals Court Orders Molotov Cocktail Lawyers Back to Jail,” by Kemberlee Kaye, Legal Insurrection, June 5, 2020:
Two Brooklyn-based lawyers facing federal charges for allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails into a NYPD cruiser during the riots are back in federal custody after an appeals court reversed the bail decision.
Mary covered the original story earlier this week:
Two Brooklyn lawyers face federal charges after allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails into an NYPD cruiser during the riots.
Colinford King Mattis, a Princeton graduate and associate at Pryor Cashman LLP, and human rights lawyer Urooj Rahman are accused of throwing the cocktail into the unoccupied car.
Federal prosecutors charged them “with causing damage to a police vehicle by fire and explosives.”
The New York Daily News published a picture of Rahman, who used a Bud Light bottle as the device:
Rahman hurled the bottle, which was filled with gasoline, into the cruiser. But the Bud Light Molotov cocktail failed to ignite, law enforcement sources said.
Cops gave chase and stopped Mattis’ van nearby on Willoughby St. They found the makings of another Molotov cocktail in the back seat along with a gasoline container, authorities say….

A silver lining ?. Good morning ?

Detention, disbarment and deportation if possible, which if born in USA may be impossible

Nice to see some justice finally meted out.
terry sullivan says
police should have shot them
Mike says
If they did it would shift the blame and the liberal press would make them martyrs. Better to let the wheels of justice slowly turn.

Sure just shoot them. Where is police brutality when we need it? (sarc).
Terry Gain says
No stupid. The police should obey the law like everyone else.

Disbarment proceedings?
revereridesagain says
In this atmosphere? One can only wish.

In Canada disbarment is automatic when convicted of an indictable offence. I suspect this is also the case throughout the USofA but one never knows.

I *hope so*.

From personal experience bars do all they can to rationalize the actions of and to protect their members. Don’t be surprised if the NY bar does all it can to protect this would-be revolutionary.
Westman says
Imagine that. Princeton and Fordham universities turning out terrorists.
Mattis describes himself as a, “problem solver by nature”. What problem was he solving while delivering Molotov cocktails?
revereridesagain says
Harvard Law is probably annoyed that Princeton and Fordham beat them to it. On the other hand, Hah-vud did turn out O’bummer so technically…..

Good.

Send the slimy Muslims back to whatever crap-hole Muslim country they came from.
Yohanan says
Both lawyer-terrorists may well meet maximum 20 years on federal charges. Only afterwards deport the Pakistan born Rahman. But Mattis is son of Jamaican immigrants. Their disbarments to quickly follow indictment…

See, occasionally the court system can pull their heads out of their collective arses long enough to see logic and common sense.
It will be wonderful to watch this pair being dragged through the justice system.

NYC: Appeals court orders Muslim lawyer who threw Molotov cocktail at police car and her accomplice back to jail
……………..
*Good*.
underbed cat says
Yep, very good for NYC…..I guess her “injustice enthusium passed up her thinking ability, I just hope the courts understand this “error tactic” and the other political ideological connections she may have with this type of action.
Linde Barrera says
To underbed cat- I hope I am wrong on my prediction here but I think this case will be a test case. Mattis and Rahman will be acquitted because by throwing a Molotov cocktail into an empty police car to make a statement against police brutality, not deliberately trying to hurt police or anyone else, they showed “restraint”. Back in the 1960’s when there were civil rights riots, I am pretty sure I read about a judge who said it was better for protesters to destroy property than take human lives, thereby giving a lighter sentence to the perpetrators for not maiming or killing anyone.
The bigger question is: Will these 2 lawyers be disbarred?
It would be great to get JihadWatch poster Wellington’s assessments on this case, as he is an attorney.
underbed cat says
correction of comment, “error tactic” was a typo, “terror tactic”…however this attempt at injecting a potential explosive into the open window of a police vehicle may help defendents but having a gasoline container in the back seat….well that will be examined as not suspicious during a riot of burning and looting but as just showing support for the victim? Freedom of speech does not require gasoline, unless you have to flee in my opinion. I don’t know how these things ignite, maybe she had gas on hands and was afraid to light the devise….throwing from a car may be difficult for the novice.
If her action was anti-inflammatory why is she seen with this bottle in hand, I don’t think it was a good Ad. or a peaceful message or even a paid announcement.
But I agree a conviction in this city would be unlikely, breaking hate speech laws, would be seen as offensive especially for a lawyer seeking justice. Crimminal behavoir charges, it seems, rarely apply or stick to people with law degrees. Tricky justice thing.
underbed cat says
Curious if there might be some people who act as a “setup crew’, for a antifa, BLM knowing if it didn’t ignite they could claim no intent to harm, and look innocent or victimized, but day by day more hidden agendas sound just like hamas/ isis al queda to terrorize.. Event organizers may not know who really wants to incite violence and keep information about their goals for internal destruction, internal, unseen by liberals now have news people suddenly feigning shock, running for cover and changing their acceptance to hide their disapproval of Trump, hoping this will effect elections…..calling this peaceful protests blind many to dangers, misinformation and lies prevail, truth drips out, just hope it is not too late.
Protecting the President is necessary during these times of the obvious attempts to destroy cities and overthrow U.S. as the tactics keep changing as Washington and normal life is under leftist islamic seige.
JDow says
I suspect the situation now is, “Rots a ruck getting her back into custody.”
If they have her they are lucky. She is probably well hidden by now by her huge money supporters.

I don’t think that Urooj Rahman is going to hide. I think she will try and game the system.

A study in the subversion of Ivy League and Catholic Universities should ensue. This is the crap these schools are churning out due to affirmative action bias laws and political correctness?
And hey, Rahman, you could’ve had a V8.

These two have committed a terrorist attack against law enforcement personnel and should be treated as enemies of state. These two are also members of the legal profession and should face disbarment for their violent criminal actions. No excuse for their criminal actions.
TruthHonestReality says
I heard that they originally charged them with attempted murder, rightfully so, then they massively reduced the charges to just barely felony charges. They obviously released them from jail.
NYC said that they will not press charges on any Blm rioters and protesters so we now see that the government is actually treating people differently based on their ideology.
A very serious disgusting thing is going on here in America and it’s scary how millions of white people are kneeling and praying to their new religion of SJW and their new god named BLM.
