This is in the spirit of the supremacist tendency within Islam to claim the holy sites and holy figures of others, insisting that they’re really Islamic. There are numerous examples of this in The History of Jihad.
“Turkish daily says ancient site in Thessaloniki built 300 years before Mohammed is a mosque,” by Paul Antonopoulos, Greek City Times, June 12, 2020 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
…The Daily Sabah, owned by Ahmet Çalık, a close associate of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, ran a new article with the title “Greece misuses Ottoman monuments in major blow to cultural heritage.”
In the article, the outlet claims that Greece is discriminating against its recognised Muslim minority, saying “the Turks living in Komotini had previously elected their own muftis (Muslim legal experts who have the authority to rule on local family and inheritance matters), the Greek state has started appointing its own mufti in the area under new protocols.”
An interesting point to criticise Greece about, considering the Turkish government itself also appoints its own muftis. So Daily Sabah is effectively criticising Greece for what Turkey itself does in organising the Muslim community.
“Religion is not the only sphere targeted by the state, according to the Turks of Western Thrace, who say their schools are being shut down, damaging their efforts to protect their identity. Sixty-five Turkish-language schools have been closed down in the past eight years, with the latest closure occurring in the village of Kalamokastro,” the article said.
Although it is true that 65 Turkish-language schools have been closed down in the past eight years, the outlet of course does not explain in detail why this is, and rather alludes that it is part of systematic racism by the Greek state…
Continuing the attack, Daily Sabah then says that “The Fethiye Mosque in Athens, built by Mehmet the Conqueror in 1458, is currently being used as an exhibition hall,” while forgetting that on the original site of the mosque was a Byzantine Church that was converted into a mosque, then demolished to build the Fethiye Mosque.
The article also mentions how the famous Tzistarakis Mosque in Monastiraki today is a ceramics museum, but not how the Turks built it by destroying and using ancient columns from Hadrian’s library that was constructed in 132 AD.
And without nitpicking every other mosque the article mentions, we jump to the most hilarious of all the falsities presented by The Daily Sabah in their ramblings of how many mosques in Greece are falling into disrepair- the feature photo used in the article.

Amazing what they can do!
Well, maybe amazing what they can believe.

Islam is a political party mascarading as a religion and is toleterion in nature and seems to be incompatible with the rest of the world
That being said I have known good people who happen to be Muslim and Hindi and Buddhist and Christian and atheist there are good people out there no matter where you go. Some teachings you need to keep your eyes open too and be careful

Delusion of Muslims!!! ha, ha, ha,…All holy places of Christians, Hindus, Jews etc which were built before Mo are really mosques! Total morons!

It’s astonishing that islam hasn’t yet claimed Cain was muslim acting in jihad against Abel. Or have they? Every idiotic claim of islam proves the absurdity of it.

“claims ancient site in Thessaloniki built 300 years before Muhammad is a mosque”
Even worse, an ancient sacred site in Australia, containing relics of indigenous culture over 40 thousand years old, has been declared, not a mosque, but a mine, and has been blown up and completely destroyed. (By white Christians.)
Dear, oh dear, Mr Spencer. At least the church/mosque in Thessaloniki has been left standing.
You can’t stop these Christians if they catch the scent of money.
Ecosse1314 says
And Rod you know they are Christian’s…how?. In fact do you know they are white? Maybe as usual you are just rattling your wallies
keith O says
The sacred site was destroyed by a company called BHP and yes they are Christians and yes, they are white and yes, they care more about $$$$$ than cultural history.
How do I know? Because I am Aboriginal…..
Ecosse1314 says
You know the faith of the whole board???
Will accept your word on them being white but that don’t make them Christian.
tutl says
Perhaps whole board is white – but for some time, as a result of affirmative action, women and people with “darker skin color” have been increasingly promoted in Western companies.
Also Western societies are also becoming more and more diverse in religious terms. Mainly they become more non-religious (e.g. atheist).
Some good news from BHP:
“(…) BHP agrees not to damage 40 Aboriginal heritage sites without consulting traditional owners (…)”

Larry says
You can’t even get who you are blaming correct.
It was Rio Tinto, not BHP.
And why should we really care about the sad daubings of the most stagnant human culture ever?
Rod says
Thanks Keith.
We are safe in assuming that they are white, wealthy, privileged, and we know they come from a nominally Christian culture. Not actually churchgoers? Does it matter?
I can assure you, Eco, that they are definitely not Muslim. Sorry.
And BHP will “consult” traditional owners in future, before damaging heritage sites. So thoughtful! They must surely be Christians.

What about Turks?

I’ve heard that the Indian government has flooded entire Muslim villages, more than once, in very recent times, to build dams, without any care or provision for resettling the inhabitants.
What about Turks? What about Indians?
And let’s not even think about what white, god-fearing Americans did to the lands and sacred sites of their indigenous peoples, who are now mostly exterminated.
What about Americans, indeed?
Beth says
We are not “mostly exterminated.” Most of us, however, are sick of being used as mascots for various political agendas.

“(…) At least the church/mosque in Thessaloniki has been left standing. (…)”
So church or mosque or both at once?
It was built as a church by Greeks before Turks, Muhammad, Islam and Allah.
Turks-Muslims were invaders who stole the church from Greeks probably to use it as a mosque for ever.
So it’s like imprison someone’s mother for ever and proudly and maliciously let her children watch it.
tutl says
Therefore, the entire Greek and Armenian “heritages” in Turkey (monuments and geographical names) are like their mothers imprisoned by the Turks.
What happened in Australia was a crime, but at least, they didn’t lie that it was their heritage and they didn’t steal it by copying it.
Turks have built almost all their mosques like Hagia Sophia

The Jews had the only ONE temple in ONE place on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
It was demolished by the Romans.
But it was Muslims who built the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa mosque in exactly the same place – as if they could not respect the holy place for Jews.
SAFI says
Rod, you’re probably too much of an idiot to realize that Thessaloniki is in Greece (not turkey) and what the Turks are basically demanding is that an ancient Roman temple be converted into a goddamn Mosque , obviously forgetting that their “right of conquest” has long expired since the ottoman caliphate was driven out of there well over a century ago.

How is Christians in Greece not ceding this site as a Mosque indicative of Christians supposedly being obsessed with making money?
And note: “Rod” has never said he has *any* problem with Muslims robbing, kidnapping, and enslaving Infidels to make money–nor their imposing Jizya on unbelievers. But Greeks earning money is–somehow–to be considered a terrible thing.

As we are all well aware, Islam has a track record of lies, deception, creating false histories to justify their claims.
I have noticed an interesting correlation between the rhetoric coming Islamist’s and from the communist Chines government.
The blame game, “we have done no wrong, we are the victims” etc.
Whenever something goes their way it’s “look how good we are” when morally corrupt behavior is discovered then they are the victims.
Same play book.
SAFI says
Dear Greeks, when you tolerate the existence of a building called “the Fethiye Mosque” (which literally, yes LITERALLY means the “Conquest Mosque” right in the middle of Athens, built by the pederast Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror (aka Mehmed the child rapist, who murdered, raped and enslaved millions of Greeks and other Christians) , standing on the site of a former greek Church no less, and built with materials looted from other churches and ancient monuments, and 200 years after liberating Athens you still haven’t demolished it and replaced it with a monument to the Greek War of Indepence as you ought to have done, then yes you deserve all the hypocritical sanctimonious BS that the Daily Sabah rag can throw at you and more!
Meanwhile ancient Greek churches and monasteries in Adrianople(“edirne”), Istanbul, Iznik, Trabzon and all over Turkey are being converted into Mosques (Armenian churches as well…)

There seems to be no logic whatsoever in islam from what I can see. This claim in this report is, of course, ludicrous. But don’t Muslim also claim that everyone is a Muslim anyway and when some idiot actually chooses to become a Muslim, that person is merely reverting to being the Muslim that he or she already is because, hey, we’re all Muslims? Maybe I’m wrong about that, I’m pretty sure that I did read that here at Jihad Watch, but, if a claim as outrageous and nonsensical as that has actually been made, then Islam will claim anything. Forget logic, any fantasy will do. Any lie, and rubbish will do, forget logic, as long as it works for supremacist Islam’s goal of taking over the world. In Islam, that’s all that matters. I am one of the people who suspects that Muhammad probably didn’t even exist, I think it was all made up later on, so all of Islam is a big lie anyway.
James Lincoln says

I believe that that is a correct interpretation, perhaps others could weigh in…
tim gallagher says
Yes, James, I did read that here at Jihad Watch, and I didn’t forget it because I thought that it was pretty much the most ridiculous idea that I had ever come across. I should have written down the name of the commenter who said it. Mortimer would probably know if it is a claim that Islam makes. You say that you think it is correct. I wonder if it is right there in the Koran somewhere. “allah told me, his mighty prophet, Mo, that all people are Muslims. Yes I, the power crazed allah, own everyone.” Talk about the dream of a bunch of megalomaniacs. Islam seems to be saying that we all belong to that stinking, barbaric ideology. I know they want to take over the world, but claiming that everyone is already a Muslim is the craziest idea ever. Total wish fulfilment and fantasy. There seems to be no logic when it comes to Islam and the bizarre stuff Muslims believe in. You truly couldn’t make this stuff up. And some people actually believe it.
Charles says
This was the originally built as the Mausoleum of Galerius. But he was never buried there. It was deeded to the Christian Church by Constantine. It is in all likely hood the first official state sponsored church of the Roman Empire. Galerius wrote the Edict of tolerance which preceded the edict of Milan by 2 years. He died near the Danube river where he was buried.
SAFI says
Oh but please don’t you see that f—ing minaret next to it? It was originally built in 5963 BH (before hijrah) by Ibrahim(Abraham, pbuh) the proto-Muslim prophet, under Allah’s instructions, right after he finished the construction of the Kaaba! That’s a fact!
Jokes aside I wasn’t aware that this is possibly the first officially sanctioned Roman Church ever. Thanks for that bit of knowledge.
