As the U.S. Catholic bishops joined the Greek Orthodox Church in proclaiming July 24 a day of “mourning and manifest grief” over Turkey’s decision to convert the Hagia Sophia cathedral to a mosque, the majority of Greeks want action. “Greeks have expressed dissatisfaction with the international response to the Turkish regime,” and the strength of their reaction is significant. “68 per cent of Greeks said financial sanctions” launched against Turkey “would be appropriate.”
However, the EU is content with insisting on “dialogue,” which has failed Westerners on every level in all dealings with Islamic supremacists. To the latter, “dialogue” goes one way and is merely a forum to trick and lull infidels into submission, using the “Islamophobia” battering ram at any hint of compromise on their part.
A glimpse into the historic treatment of Christians in Turkey was provided in a book by two Israeli researchers, Dr. Benny Morris and Dr. Dror Ze’evi, of Ben-Gurion University, entitled The Thirty-Year Genocide, Turkey’s Destruction of Its Christian Minorities, 1894-1924. It tells of the appalling history of aggression by Turkish Muslims.
The book identifies a “strikingly consistent pattern of ethno-religious atrocity over three decades, perpetrated by the Turkish government, army, police and populace against Asia Minor’s Christian minorities, extending well beyond the infamous Armenian genocide — still denied by the Turkish government — of 1915-16.”
Meanwhile, in a total denial of Islamic supremacist abuse and aggression, “Jesuit priest Felix Körner, Consultor to the Vatican Commission for Religious Relations with Muslims ignores history and maintained that the ‘reclassification’ of Hagia Sophia as a mosque ‘should not be put down to current Islamic aggression.'”
One wonders what Körner would put it down to, given the sustained abuse of Christians in Turkey, even today, not to mention the genocide against Christians that continues in Africa and the Middle East. As Russian Orthodox Church spokesman Metropolitan Hilarion put it: the conversion of Hagia Sophia into a mosque is “a slap in the face to the entire world Christianity.” There is really no other way to see it. The Greek population is justified in its criticism of the EU’s response.
“Majority of Greeks Unhappy with EU Response to Hagia Sofia Mosque Conversion,” by Chris Tomlinson, Breitbart, July 19, 2020:
A majority of Greeks have expressed dissatisfaction with the international response to the Turkish regime announcing it would be converting the Hagia Sophia into a mosque.
A poll, released by the Thessaloniki-based Vergina television station, has revealed that 87 per cent of Greeks are disappointed in the European Union’s reaction to Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s move to convert the Hagia Sophia into a mosque.
The majority, 53 per cent, also said the Greek government should have done more on the issue, while 77 per cent disapproved of Russia’s stance on the matter, Proto Thema reports.
Russia, like Greece, has a large Orthodox Church population and the Hagia Sophia, the largest church not just in Orthodoxy but in all Christendom until the violent conquest of Constantinople (Istanbul) by the Ottoman Turks, has major religious and cultural significance.
When it comes to how to respond to Erdogan’s actions, 68 per cent of Greeks said financial sanctions would be appropriate, while 28 per cent said they felt nothing would stop the Islamist leader.
Meanwhile, the poll found that 40 per cent of Greeks would be open to converting the house in Greece where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, into a museum of the “Genocide of Hellenism”.
55 per cent disagreed with such a move, however.
The Greek government expressed opposition to converting the Hagia Sophia earlier this month, with government spokesman Stelios Petsas saying the move would strain relations between Christians and Turkey….

The re-desecration of the Hagia Sofia is more proof, if any were needed, that Islam is on the march and must be stopped!

It is disheartening that world leaders and the religious body are not coming out hard on the turkey regime.

Who has the will to stop it? Merkel? Macron? Johnson? Not a chance. Orban’s Hungary isn’t strong enough to take on the Turks, and neither is Putin’s Russia, not really. Erdogan will only become more aggressive now. I can’t predict what the tyrant will do next, but he isn’t done.

Perhaps, mortimer, this functions as more evidence of Arab/Turkish hostility, a many centuries old phenomenon, than any sincere desire by Arabs to see Hagia Sophia remain a museum. Erdogan, after all, to put it mildly, is not a favorite with Arab Muslims en masse. After all, he’s a Turk and thus it is arguable than nationalism in this particular instance outweighs any religious consideration.
Just wondering.

Quite so, James. “DefenderofIslam” constantly exposes the savagery of Islam.

This is mostly because most Arabs don’t want to see another Turkish Caliphate. Other than that, Al Azhar would be applauding this Muslim surpemacy.

Now is the most important time for all people of International Christian community and peace-loving people of goodwill, to come together and show strong displeasure and anger at Erdogan’s action in a very civilized and united way. It is to stop buying anything made in Turkey.

Great idea! Replace Turkey with Israel.
James Lincoln says
Dov,
100% agree.
Out of the 30 NATO member states, Turkey is the most problematic.
It has morphed into an islamic Republic. Under current NATO rules, if Turkey is attacked, other NATO countries would have to come to its defense.
A little like defending Iran.
Yes, replace with Israel…

Erdogan is just feeling his oats and see’s this as a victory over Christens and will be embolden to continue his ideology of world domination by the muslim world. Christians need to show their outrage over his actions and while at it we should kick Turkey out of NATO and place major financial sanctions on them.

This will only embolden Erdogan to continue his destruction of the christian people.
