My latest at PJ Media:
It’s a suicidal impulse driven on the streets of our cities by privileged American children who, because they are as ignorant of history and its lessons as they are of basic human decency, have no idea how they and those whom they love would suffer under the kind of regime they are trying to impose upon us. The young people who drove vans across the road to Mount Rushmore and slashed their tires so that people could not attend President Trump’s speech last night, and who are destroying statues and denouncing the land of their birth and of their families, are thoroughly indoctrinated drones who are seeking slavery for themselves and for the rest of us.
The drones tell us they’re angry about slavery. It’s because of slavery, ended in the United States over 150 years ago even as it continues in other parts of the world, that they’re pulling down monuments not just of slave-owners, but of those who fought and died to end the evil institution. Yet all over the country, they are working to impose slavery upon us – not the race-based slavery of early America, but the tyranny of Marxist government that enslaves its own people more ruthlessly than anything that ever happened in America.
Heedless of that, however, these drones press on toward their goal, while those who are standing against tyranny continue to be excoriated as enemies of the people, demonized, and marginalized, avoiding slavery will be harder than ever. People everywhere defend oppressors and carry water for bullies and tyrants, and think all the while that they’re serving the cause of freedom. Much of the populace is so thoroughly intimidated by these thugs that people are displaying their slogans and cant not out of conviction, but out of fear of being targeted.
Bowing to intimidation is the antithesis of the spirit upon which America was founded.
And so on this Independence Day, our task is clear. We have to recover a deep knowledge of and pride in our own history, so that we can defend it against the Big Lies that have made millions of young Americans ashamed of being American. The endeavor to do that has been remarkably successful and has been ignored by patriots for too long; it has even become taken for granted that our young people will go off to our colleges and universities and come out radical haters of their own nation, culture, and heritage. The sinister intent of this enterprise is clear: those who hate their own country will not lift a finger to defend it.
There is much more. Read the rest here.

The date of this specific posting is 7/4 /20 . Since its the Forth of July its’ fitting to site-the wisdom of George Washington ,who wrote “To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.”
This is as true now as back in Washington’s own time.
Especially with that militant hostile rouge Islamic regime of Iran still in power.

The second biggest mistake, besides allowing anti-Americanism to be taught in the universities, was the creation of a professional military, relieving the youth of any responsibility to serve their country. If the draft or service of another type, such as the Peace Corps had been mandatory, these protests would not be happening due to the youth learning the truth about the importance of their great heritage and nation.
A professional army was a significant factor in the degeneration of Rome. Bread and Circuses breed contempt and the expectation of unearned benefits.
tgusa says
I served even though they could never have made me under the draft. I was born in a small window where Congress had let the selective service registration requirement lapse. Never had to register. Those who want to serve will serve and I don’t think it should be a requirement. I want people surrounding me that I can count on that want to be there. Not teaching legitimate American history and civics in grade school has led to the problems we face. Besides, we haven’t declared war since WWII and it is really not fair to force any American to fight in undeclared foreign conflicts.
Stop with the foreign interventions and I might come around to your thinking.
Westman says
That’s not the point. You served your country and so did I, Army 6-83rd. If you read carefully, I suggested military OR some other service for the nation. And yes, it should be mandatory. Nothing else will correct the experience-void leftist thinking we see today.
If you can think of any way, other than waiting 15 years for reality to set in for
Leftists, like the aftermath of the hippy movement, I want to hear it.
tgusa says
Perhaps you are right, I hope so as that wouldn’t be hard to do as many youth need and will need employment/direction in this ongoing virus mania where the repercussions of it will last for years. My cousin from my Dads sister served in the Peace Corp in Africa back in the late 60s through 70s. A smart and capable guy. For all his effort I have really seen no change there except to the worse.
Perhaps we should launch an America corp dedicated to the country and only the country. That’s about my only idea. I am mostly as free as I ever was its just that there are so many… well you know… telling me what I can or cannot be what I should or should not be.
Fortunately, I have always been known to listen and then maybe reject what was said.
Westman says
Imagine the state of Israel, now, if it had not taken the youth to Germany to see the Holocaust Museum, the camp, and then require national service from all youth. It would be more like the US, today, and more likely, not exist.
I could be wrong, but it seems that if service was done in another country the youth would learn to appreciate both their opportunities and safety in the US. It’s taken for granted, by the Left, that hedonism can be sustained without weakening the nation while history flashes a warning sign that the road ahead should be avoided. It’s like charging too much on a credit card with the thought, without any evidence, that there will be more money, next month.

——————-
From ‘the Rage and the Pride’ – Oriana Fallaci
The fact is that America is a very special country, my dear. A country to really envy, yes, a country to really be jealous of And for reasons which have nothing to do with her richness, her immense power, her military supremacy. Do you know why? Because America is a nation that arose from a need of the soul, the need for a Patria, and from the most sublime idea ever conceived in the West: the idea of Liberty married to the idea of Equality. It is a special country also because this happened when the idea of Liberty was not in fashion. The idea of Equality, even less. Only certain philosophers called Muminists or Enlighteners spoke about these things, at that time. Only an enormous and expensive book in seventeen volumes (which with the eighteen Tables-volumes would become thirty-five) published in France under the direction of a certain Diderot and of a certain
D’Alernbert, (the one called Encyclopedie, Universal Dictionary of Art and Science), explained those concepts. And apart from the intellectuals, apart from the aristocrats who had the money to buy the seventeen then thirty-five volumes of the Big Expensive Book or the books which had inspired it, who knew about Illuminism or Enlightenment at that time?
Who fought for the sublime idea? Not even the revolutionaries of the French Revolution, given the fact that the French Revolution started in 1789. Meaning, fifteen years after the American Revolution which started in 1776 but had blossomed in 1774. (A detail that the anti-American leftists always seem to forget or pretend to forget).
But, above all, America is a special country because the idea of Liberty married to the idea of Equality was understood by peasants who were mostly illiterate or anyway uneducated. Ile peasants of the thirteen American colonies. And because it materialized thanks to extraordinary leaders, men of great culture and great quality and great imagination: the Founding Fathers.
For Christsake, does anybody remember the names Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, John Adams, George Washington, etcetera, etcetera, amen? Nothing in common with the pettifogging lawyers, that is, the <> (as Vittorio Alfieri contemptuously used to call them) of the French Revolution. Nothing to do with the gloomy and perfidious executioners of its Terror: the various Marat, Danton, Desmoulins, Saint-just, Robespierre and so on.
They were men, the Founding Fathers, who knew Greek and Latin as our teachers of Greek and Latin never will. Men who used to read Archirnedes; and Aristotle and Plato in Greek, Seneca and Cicero and Vergil in Latin. Men who studied the principles of Greek democracy as not even the Marxists of my time used to study the Theory of Plusvalue. (Provided that the Marxists of my time really did).
Jefferson even knew Italian. (He called it Tuscan). In Italian he spoke and wrote and read with considerable ease. In fact, along with the two thousand vine cuttings and the one thousand olive bedders and the music sheets that in Virginia could not be easily found, in 1774 the Florentine doctor Filippo Mazzei brought him five copies of a certain book written by a certain Cesare Beccaria: Dei Delitti e delle Pene (<>).
As for the self-taught Benjamin Franklin, he was a genius. A scientist, a typographer, a writer, an editor, a journalist, a politician, an inventor. He discovered the electrical nature of lightning, for instance. He invented the lightningrod, and the piped stove to warm up the rooms without a fireplace. (In fact the Granduke of Tuscany, Pietro Leopoldo, bought two of them for his studio at Pitti Palace in Florence). And it was with these extraordinary leaders, these men of great culture and great quality and great imagination, that in 1776 the mostly illiterate or uneducated peasants of the thirteen American colonies rebelled against England and fought the War for Independence. The American Revolution.
They fought it, in spite of the blood that every war costs, without the French Revolution’s abominations. Without the guillotine’s horror, without Toulon’s and Lyon’s and Bordeaux’s massacres, without Vandee’s carnages. They fought it thanks to a piece of paper which along with the need of the soul, the need for a Patria, concretized the sublime idea of Liberty married to Equality: the Declaration of Independence. <
And this paper that from the French Revolution on the whole West has copied, from which each of us has drawn inspiration, still constitutes the backbone of America. Her vital lymph. Know why? Because it transforms the subjects into citizens. Because it turns the plebes into people. Because it invites, no, it orders the plebes turned into citizens to rebel against tyranny and to govern themselves. To express their individualities, to search for their own happiness. (Something that for the poor, for the plebes, means to get rich).
The exact contrary, in short of what the Communists used to do with their practice of forbidding people to govern themselves, to express themselves, to get rich. With their practice of installing His Majesty the State on the throne. <> my intelligent father used to say. <>. He also used to say that instead of rescuing the plebes, Communism turns everybody into plebes. It makes everybody die of poverty and starvation, it prevents the plebes from being rescued.
Well: in my. opinion America rescues, redeemes, the plebes. Basically, they are all plebeian, in America. White and black, yellow and brown, stupid and intelligent, poor and rich. As a matter of fact, in many cases the most plebeian are just the rich.
Such boors! You realize at once that they never read <>, that they never had any familiarity with sophistication and refinement. The food they usually eat, for instance. The way they usually dress. Most of them are so inelegant that, in comparison, the Queen of England looks as chic as a high-class model.
But they are rescued, by God! They are redeemed! And in this world there is nothing more vital, more powerful, more inexorable, than Redeemed Ple-
bes, than Rescued Plebes. You always break your nose with the Rescued Plebes, the Redeemed Plebes. And, in one way or another, all have broken
their noses with America. The English ‘ * the Germans’ the Russians, the Mexicans, the Nazis, the Fascists, the Communists… In the end, even HoChi Minh’s Vietnamese. After the victory, in fact, they too had to come to terms with hated America.
And when ex-president Clinton went to pay them
a little visit, they touched the sky with their fingers,
<<Bienvenu, Your Excellence, bienvenu! Shall we
faire business avec America, oul? Beaucoup mo-
ney, much argent, oul?o. The problem is that the
sons of Allah are not Vietnamese. And with them the war will be very tough. Very long, very difficult, very tough. Unless we Europeans stop shitting in our pants and playing the double-game with the enemy, giving up our dignity. An opinion
I respectfully offer to the Pope too.
Tell me, Holy Father: is it true that some time ago you asked the sons of Allah to forgive the Crusades that Your predecessors fought to take back the Holy Sepulchre? But did the sons of Allah ever ask you to be forgiven for having taken the Holy Sepulchre? Did they ever apologize for having subjugated over seven centuries the superCatholic Iberian peninsula, the whole Portugal and three quarters of Spain, so that if Isabella of Castile and Ferdinando of Aragon had not chased them out in 1490 we all would speak Arabic?
The question intrigues me, Holy Father, because they never asked me any forgiveness for the crimes that in the seventeenth and eighteenth century the Saracens committed along the coasts of Tuscany and in the Mediterranean. I mean when they kidnapped my ancestors, they chained up their legs and their arms and their necks, they took them to Algiers or Tunis or Tangier or Constantinople and sold them in the bazaars. They kept them slaves for the rest of their lives, the young women inside the harems, they punished their attempts to escape by cutting their throats: remember? Of course, you remember. The Society for the Liberation of the White Slaves held by them in Algeria, in Tunisia, in Morocco, in Turkey etcetera was founded by Italian friars: right? And it was the Catholic Church that negotiated the release of those who had the money to pay their ransom: right? You really bewilder me, Most Holy Father. Because you have worked so hard to see the Soviet Union collapse.
My generation, a generation which has lived its entire existence in the fear of the Third World War, must thank especially you for the miracle in which none
of us believed: a Europe free from the nightmare of Communism, a Russia which asks to enter into Nato, a Leningrad which is named again Saint Petersburg, a Putin who is Bush's best friend. His best ally. And after such victory you wink at individuals who are worse than Stalin, you flirt with the same ones who still would like to build mosques inside the Vatican? Most Holy Father.. In all respect, you remind me of the Germanjewish bankers who in the 1930’s, hoping to save themselves, lent money to Hitler. And who a few years later ended in his crematory ovens)……

Let us, Americans , be glad that we live in the USA.
For example , we have the freedom to speak out our convictions in public and not be afraid of any type of state police coming for us to in prison us for speaking out what’s on our minds.
The exact opposite of harsh brutal and oppressive tyrannical regimes in which the people trapped those cruel tyrannies are imprisoned for saying just about anything. As those two rough states of North Korea and Iran.
Regarding those brutal and oppressive regimes the wisdom of Benjamin Franklin ,very much, applies . For Mr. Franklin printed in POOR RICHARD’S ALMANAC ” Those who are feared are also hated.”

In the superb feature article, Robert Spencer states:
“…America today faces a much more immediately urgent threat from the Left, which is working energetically and increasingly openly today to deny us all those freedoms and others as well.”
In other words, a much more immediate and urgent than the threat from islam and sharia law – and that’s saying something!
And our very own, and very astute, Wellington has pointed this out before…

Thank you Mr. Spencer for your excellent article and for this forum to respond and post our thoughts.
As we try to celebrate another Independence Day, without the usual fireworks, parades, and patriotic displays, we should remember how failed and rotten a country this is.
This place is so rotten, unknown numbers of people fleeing poverty, lack of opportunity, persecution, and endemic corruption lose their lives on the oceans, in the mountains, on the deserts, and even in the air (as in falling out of or perishing in the landing gear or holds) to get to this evil place. Many spend thousands of dollars they really don’t have to get a family member smuggled here. Or they find a way to pay for expensive tuition and living costs to have a family member go to school here and perhaps end up with a job and resident visa in order to bring more family over. Or pay plenty of money for “birth tourism” so their child is a US citizen and can have a US passport.
Many of those attempting to enter this depraved hell-hole end up trafficked as sex slaves or drug mules, and many end up dead. Many are just dumped in the middle of nowhere with out water, food, or the connections the smugglers promised. Some are kidnapped and held for ransom along the way. All that risk to enter this horrible place.
Those lucky enough to get here can expect to get needed health care if they can just make it to a hospital. Care cannot be denied, even if the patient has no money. Government and private agencies provide funds for shelter, healthcare, education, food, clothing, and daily expenses.
Yes, what a vile place this is. Yet, these ignoramuses in our latest set of “peaceful protests” are able to deface, destroy, rob, loot, burn, and assault people with few or no consequences. Most of these so called protestors have most likely never endured any of the hardships of those fleeing to the US.
Currently, we seem to lack some real leadership to counter these targeted acts of violence, hold the perpetrators responsible, and go after the organizers and financers. The entrenched politicians are more concerned about being re-elected than in fulfilling their oaths of office. Corporations are more concerned about losing some customers than losing the system that has allowed them to flourish. Maybe all of these uneducated and shortsighted “leaders” think the howling masses will somehow overlook them or let them remain in their “elevated” status for saying nice things about these thugs or for doing nothing. Obviously, anyone thinking like this has not studied what kind hearted people Pol Pot, Mao, Stalin, Castro, Hitler, and Franco were. Or what happened under the rule of the Caliphs. Or how the French Revolution deteriorated into the Reign of Terror.
If the average citizen attempts to block these violent actions, it usually does not end well for the effort. Merely trying to defend yourself from attacks can have severe legal repercussions, let alone physical injury.
Sorry for the long rant and the doom and gloom. Unfortunately, we appear to be at a point in the US similar to 1860-61. How many will be able and willing to step up to meet the call to defend the US is not known. Neither is it known if we will have a leader capable of standing up to these budding tyrants (red, green, black, white, rainbow, or purple with pink polka dots). But real leadership is needed. A few self-appointed heroes trying to stop this alone with a shotgun or a rifle will not end well, even if well-intentioned.
I hope that we can see the US wake up, clean up the mess, and go about the business of being that beacon of liberty and individual rights we are supposed to be. I hope this Independence Day is only one of many more even better ones.

I’m in agreement with much of what you have to say.
However, we will have to agree to disagree on the “uneducated and shortsighted “leaders.
Many of those in positions of authority, both in the business world and government, come from prestigious schools. They are thoroughly indoctrinated in Marxist ideology. They are far from shortsighted, they are masters of deceit.
The howling masses will most certainly give many of them a pass in the November election.
Take a gander at the U.S. Senators that are up for reelection in 2020.

……………………………….
Maybe that’s the point Just Venting was trying to make?
And, I agree, gravenimage, education does not equal wisdom, knowledge, and discernment.
With that said.
Does it really matter whether the left is “ignorant or willfully ignorant about many matters” when;
They are winning the culture war?
They are controlling the narrative, and officials all over the country are being outmaneuvered and coerced to bend the knee?
They have masterfully hamstrung Police Departments all over the country?
They are taking control of the Education System, the Judicial System, and Local, State and Federal governments, the Voting System (Ballot Harvesting), the Media and Social Media outlets like, Google, Facebook and Twitter?
They are methodically grinding corporations down, coercing them into submission. Companies like Chick-fil-A have yielded to leftist pressure. Management at Chick-fil-A, despite the strong support from the conservative base, chose the path of appeasement.
Does it really matter?
While the left is expertly executing the Hegelian Dialectic; Thesis, Antithesis, Synthesis, or put another way, Problem, Reaction, Solution.
Maybe it’s time for conservatives to look in the mirror and ask the same question, “Are we ignorant or willfully ignorant on many matters?”
“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

I hope every true American takes this time to reflect on what being American means to them, their family and fellow citizens. Being American means protecting the rights of others as you would have them do unto you. Being an American means respecting the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Being American means taking the responsibility to know who you vote for, who you allow to govern you by consent of your authority. Being American means taking a stand against tyranny by seeking out the roots of evil and uprooting it from within and from without. Finally, being American means duty of knowing the roots of what makes our country so great; mutual respect for law and self-order, equality and justice. The hosts of the “Outsiders” program said what a great speech it was and said “Bravo” to him for getting stuck into the culture wars going on these days. They said that they wished out Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, would get stuck into the culture war issue instead of just trying to ignore it as he does. Of course, the hosts of “Outsiders” also put up some crap that the Trump derangement media said about how Trump’s speech was “divisive”, blah blah. As if Trump isn’t merely taking on the purveyors of division and identity politics which aim to destroy America and other western counties.
