“And if you are in doubt as to which We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a sura like it, and call on your helper, besides Allah, if you are truthful.” Qur’an 2:23
Emna Charqui took up this challenge, probably unwittingly, and so must go to prison. For even though the Qur’an is presenting a challenge, to take up the challenge is ipso facto blasphemous.
This is yet another glimpse into the future of the U.S. This can’t happen here, you say? We respect the freedom of speech, you say? Maybe that was true at one time, but it is no longer. Cowardice is pandemic. Newspapers all over the country refused to republish the notorious Muhammad cartoons out of a newfound “respect” for Islam that they never showed for negative portrayals of Christianity, which they hailed as “courageous.” Those who call attention to the ideological roots of jihad violence are already excoriated as “inciting hatred” and smeared as racist, bigoted “Islamophobes.” Most organizations on both the Left and the Right would never dare feature such people as speakers. Any organization that does is immediately denounced and called upon to apologize, and it usually does. So given that this is the climate today, what do you think the situation will be like in ten or twenty years?
“Coronavirus: Blogger Emna Charqui given jail term over Koran-style post,” BBC, July 14, 2020:
A blogger in Tunisia has been sentenced to six months in prison after sharing a satirical post about Covid-19 written in the form of a verse from the Koran.
Emna Charqui, 28, was arrested in May for sharing a message on Facebook urging people to follow hygiene rules in the style of Islam’s holy book.
Charqui said in a recent interview that she had no intention of provoking shock, but found the post amusing.
She was found guilty in a Tunis court of “inciting hatred between religions”….
On 2 May, Charqui shared a post on social media mimicking a Koranic verse. In it, the text called for people to wash their hands and observe social distancing in response to the coronavirus pandemic….
Charqui’s post appeared during the fasting month of Ramadan and while Tunisia was still largely under lockdown.
It caused a stir online, with some social media users labelling it offensive and calling for Charqui, an openly avowed atheist, to be punished….

You can’t mock any aspect of Islam, even in the more secular Tunisia.
Islam is the world’s most intolerant religion.

Grimly spot on, Mortimer.

Sex with children ok sex with goats ok 250 spelling mistackes in the evil Koran 350 points proven wrong but write the truth or eat a ham Sandwich death sentce
CogitoErgoSum says
So she was convicted of inciting hatred between religions. How does the Koran not incite hatred in Muslims toward other religions? She held up a mirror for the Muslims to look into and they didn’t like what they saw but the lack the ability to realize the image is of themselves.
Brian Ozzy says
Right on CogitoErgoSum. It’s all a one way street with the whingeing, whining, ever offended but eternally offensive islam.

Here is yet another act of hatred toward Christians in the U.S:

CogitoErgoSum says
My suspicion is that this vandalism was done by a Marxist but it’s quite interesting that the lady in the top photo is wearing a Che Guevara t-shirt. Marxists and Muslims find common ground in hating Christians but still hate one another. Both are ideologies of hate.
gravenimage says
This is true. Of course, a number of those against Shari’ah in the Muslim world are at least nominal Marxists–*actual* freedom is generally not even on their radar.
Kepha says
Che Guevara–I’d say he looks like a Neanderthal, but that would be insulting to Ice Age Germans.
I recall in one class I had, a kid from Panama often came with a Guevara T-shirt However, he became close friends with another kid from eastern Bolivia, and then it was, “Che–who?”
gravenimage says
Kepha, I asked several wearers of these t-shirts what they liked about Che Guevara, and interestingly not one could cite a single thing. Most of them knew nothing about him and just wore the shirt because it was considered cool.
Rick James says
There are only 2 options people have, either Islam or freedom. If you want freedom then Islam needs to be entirely eliminated.
Islam is like a poison, even a drop can lead to illness or death for any society.
I’ve noticed there is a lot of divison in the West among non-Muslims, between Christians, Atheists, Hindus, etc. However one thing we can all agree on, including ex-Muslims as that Islam is a threat to every human on the planet. We all need to unite and demand that our politicians ban Islam.
peter says
I fully agree! But how would you do that while the politicians and media are conspiring with muslims all the time in fooling people and spreading false narrative about the “religion of peace”
Mark Spahn (West Seneca, NY) says
What the hell kind of news report is this? Someone is sentenced to be imprisoned for writing something, but there is not a single quote of what she wrote? Remember the 5 W’s of journalism.
CogitoErgoSum says
I’m been looking for what she said, Mark, but can’t find it. Apparently it is so “hateful” that no one wants to translate it into English. It’s sort of like if you read the funniest joke in the world you will die from laughing; if you read this quote from this woman you will have to go to prison for spreading hate.
gravenimage says
This is very common from the Muslim world, where much of the story is censored.
Giacomo Latta says
Tell that to the BBC.
RichardL says
I have very serious trouble feeling sympathy for someone who wears a Che Guevara t-shirt…
gravenimage says
I know how you feel–but Muslim authorities would be as quick to persecute any of us, as well.
James Lincoln says
RichardL,
I get your point, she might feel more at home in Cuba…
jewdog says
Islam seems to demand that people be slaves to the religion. Religion should serve people, not the other way around.
Horace Jeffery Hodges says
Here are Emna Charqui’s so-called “Sardonic Verses”:
A-Lot saith:
“And if thou disbelieve’st these verses,
they become viruses versus thee!
Many disbelieved in the past –
not that they disbelieved in the past –
nay, they did not doubt the past,
the reality of the past, I mean.
Rather, they disbelieved A-Lot and her Epistle.
And their disbelief became
a pandemic of pantheistic pandaemonianism!
And they all died a death!
And that death was great!
No, I do not mean that it was wonderful.
Pay attention! I mean many!
In fact, all! They are all dead!
Or most of them.
Of the recent past, some are still living.
So far.
But Judgement Day is nigh.
On that day – as I was saying –
these verses will become viruses versus thee,
every one of thee!
And each verse shall stand up
and proclaim thee a disbeliever
who must die the second death.
And great will be that death!
Yes, great meaning many. I said that before.
Don’t interrupt. I, A-Lot, hate interruptions!”
That’s it. Emna Charqui’s full text. Translated, of course. It’s on the internet. I’ll look for a link.

Tunisia: Blogger gets prison for post about coronavirus written in the style of the Qur’an
………………….
This poor woman. Can you imagine someone being imprisoned for writing a post about the pandemic in the style of the Bible? Me neither…
Let’s see:
“Thou shalt have six feet between thyselves in public”
“Thou shalt not go out amounst thy brethren without a face-mask”
Nope–still not in jail.
Westman says
A classic:
“First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.” – Monty Python and the Holy Grail,
gravenimage says
Yes–most of the Christians I knew at the time thought that Monty Python and the Holy Grail was hilarious–they were not offended.
