My latest in the American Thinker:
If we’re going to make America great again, we have to know what made it great in the first place. That’s why the Left went into a frenzy of vandalism in tearing down statues earlier this summer, not just of Confederates but of those notable slaveowners Lincoln, Grant, and Frederick Douglass. To repudiate American history is to repudiate America itself.
In response, lovers of freedom have deplored the destruction and denounce the barbarians, but few are mounting a robust and informed response to their hatred of American history itself. Yet if there is anything that this orgy of destruction should have taught us, it is that we must know, know familiarly, and cherish the history of our republic. Doing this will go a long way toward saving our free society. It was with this in mind that I wrote Rating America’s Presidents: An America-First Look at Who Is Best, Who Is Overrated, and Who Was An Absolute Disaster.
The reason for this is clear: now is the time for all of us to study and become deeply familiar with American history, because if we do not know what made America great, we will not be able to make it great again. Yet it is safe to say that many, if not most, Americans who deplore what the leftist savages are doing to our monuments only have the most glancing knowledge of how the United States became a beacon of freedom for the world, such that people from all over try to get here despite the Left’s relentless defamation of our country as a bastion of racial hatred and injustice.
There is much more. Read the rest here.

Fighting Back against the Left’s War on Our History
……………
Great to see!
mortimer says
The Left began its war against reason many years ago, and some would argue that Marxism is an exercise in subjectivity couched in intellectualism.
The war against history is part of the escape from reason and empiricism and the descent into subjectivism.
Both the modern Left and Islamism are grounded in subjectivity and obscurantism.

Their war is not just against our history. It’s against us. These are the kind of people who support Joe Biden:

The slave trade is still alive and well in Africa but we wont see the left doing anything about that. Why? It is far easier and much safer to go after dead men of the past because going after the live ones of today would get them killed or worse. Dead men won’t come after them. And that mindset can be summed up with one word, cowardice. I might even have a little bit of respect for them if they were focusing their anger on modern ills and there are plenty of those that need to be dealt with. But again, much too dangerous, they don’t want have any of that.

I haven’t heard anything from the left against slavery in Islam.

And you wont. That would be an altercation with deadly ramifications.

Leftists: “We like money but we don’t know what makes money worth something! Therefore we are the most suitable and competent force concerning how money is to be distributed and maintained! Those that oppose us are rich and greedy! They have successfully made businesses that create jobs, wherein employees have willingly educated themselves to create highly industrialized items for an affordable and comfortable way of living! We demand that all of these industrialized things should be dirt cheap or free! Meanwhile, we also demanding that these employees work for less money or for money of rapidly declining value due to an imposed strangulating amount of taxes!”
Leftist politics is like trying crank an engine without fuel, it will turn but it won’t start and the batteries will drain. The main motivating force is fuel: the competition for money and price balance of demanded products: it’s Adam Smith’s teachings of ‘the invisible hand’.

Great cartoon in one of the papers – Person 1 – “I’ve been giving the future a lot of thought. And well …. I can’t see anything. Person 2 – “What a waste of your past”.

I read the article. It’s Mr. Spencer’s usual high quality.
The Left is attacking the past–including the destruction of the statue of the Norwegian-American Hans Christian Heg, who was an abolitionist and a Union casualty during the Civil War–because the past may hold seeds to criticize and demand correction of the narratives that the present dominant cultural influences foists on the public. It is quick to point out the “flawless Constitutional logic” of Taney’s Dred Scott decision; but will not consider a similar flawless Constituional logic in the dissents of Justices Curtis and McLean in the same case. It protests against a “dominant narrative”; yet seeks to impose another “dominant narrative” against which dissent is not possible.
A critical counterattack is in order. The Left’s pedigree stretches through Marx to Rousseau, who infamously spoke of compelling people to be “free” (the mother of oxymorons). But the Left’s “freedom” is only the freedom to indulge in the worst, enslaving passions. I commend Mr. Spencer’s article as part of that needed pushback.
