“‘It’s crystal clear Hezbollah are in charge of the port and warehouse’: Leading Lebanese politician blames terrorist group and ‘corrupt’ government for catastrophic explosion – as aerial images reveal blast even sank a cruise ship,” by Chris Pleasance, Nigel Rosser and Raven Saunt, Mailonline, August 6, 2020 (thanks to the Geller Report):

A leading Lebanese opposition figure has blamed Hezbollah, along with the country’s ‘corrupt’ government, for the devastating explosion in Beirut which capsized a cruise ship and has so far claimed 137 lives.

Bahaa Hariri, whose father, Prime Minister Rafiq, was assassinated in 2005, said last night everyone in the city knew Hezbollah controlled Beirut’s port and airport and it was inconceivable that the authorities did not know the deadly ammonium nitrate was stored in a warehouse there.

Speaking for the first time Mr Hariri, 54, said: ‘The question we have to ask is how come for six years this combustible material was allowed to remain in the middle of this city of two million people?’

‘It is crystal clear Hezbollah are in charge of the Port and the Warehouse where the ammonium nitrate was stored.

‘Nothing goes in and out of the Port or the Airport does so with them knowing. Nothing.

‘Their decision to put it there in the middle of a city of two million people was an utter disaster. And now we have a destroyed city centre.’

The explosion on Tuesday night, which was the size of a small nuclear bomb, has left at least 137 people dead and a further 5,000 wounded.

There are now thought to be 300,000 left homeless and wide-spread damage estimated at up to $5billion – including a 120-metre long cruise ship which capsized as a result of the blast.

A military judge leading the investigation into Tuesday’s blast said 16 employees of Beirut’s port, where the explosion took place, had been detained. He said 18 had been questioned, including port and customs officials, according to the state news agency.

But while investigators focus on port officials, many Lebanese put the blame squarely on the political elite and the corruption and mismanagement that even before the disaster had pushed the country to the brink of economic collapse.

Cypriot police say they have questioned a Russian man over alleged links to a ship and its cargo of ammonium nitrate said to have caused the devastating explosion.

The explosion has threatened to reignite anti-government protests in Lebanon that have been ongoing since last year amid allegations of entrenched incompetence and corruption.

Emmanuel Macron offered France’s support for the Lebanese people as he visited Beirut on Thursday, but warned the country would ‘continue to sink’ unless its leaders carry out reforms.

The comments from Mr Hariri today echoed warnings given to the UN by the Israeli ambassador Danny Danon last year. At the time, the ambassador said: ‘Israel found that Iran and the Quds Force have begun to advance the exploitation of civilian maritime channels, and specifically the Port of Beirut.’

Speaking to the 15-member Security Council, he added: ‘The Port of Beirut is now the Port of Hezbollah.’…

Lebanese people need to move away from Islam (my suggestion is return to Christianity) if they want to be prosperous ever again.

They were a Christian-majority nation until the “civil war” of the 1970s–this was more an invasion of “Palestinian” Muslims than anything else.

The fact is that Lebanon, out of Christian kindness and charity, allowed in Palestinian Muslims – and then foolishly allowed them to take over.

I disagree with Rbt Porter. Muslims will take over wherever their numbers are more than 20% of the population.

10 million Lebanese Christians have emigrated to Brazil to get away from the troubles. If stability is restored and Hezbollah is banned, some may return.

It should be a priority to ban Hezbollah. They are a Shi’ite Nazi party.

Hard for me to believe someone would store that much nitrate in one place and then forget about it for six years. I think that stuff was going to become a bomb eventually – whether one big one or numerous small ones, I don’t know. Something certainly went wrong with whatever the plan was though. Why blow up that part of Beirut intentionally?

    • gravenimage says

      Aug 8, 2020 at 6:16 pm

Agreed, CogitoErgoSum–I imagine it was earmarked for use against Israel.

      • CogitoErgoSum says

        Aug 9, 2020 at 12:43 am

I think Hezbola (and the Iranians) have more of these warehouses filled with explosives elsewhere and were planning to use that nitrate to set off even larger explosions at ports in Israel. Since they don’t have nuclear bombs they may have even been trying to figure out a way to create one or more “dirty” bombs. Maybe they were inept … and maybe this “accidental” explosion was the lesser of two evils.

I had the same thought process as CES and GI. Glad to see it confirmed. Good information by that link to that awesome article of the beautiful Katie Pavlich, whom I regularly see on Fox.

My questions are about; How did the original fire start? In the video’s we see for a short while only one building on fire and people are recording that and then get surprised (and I think in one video case blown away) by the huge blast, with the huge white cloud). Was this a “double accident” in that first a fire started accidentally or otherwise in one building and that led to the huge blast in the other building? Or other part of the same building?

And, ….. were there FIREWORKS stored in the first building that caught fire?! Are fireworks a normal stockpile? Naaaaa, that probably was a cache of Hezbollah weapons, ammunition.

When I thought that someone targeted those weapons I thoughT of Israel, with Israel not knowing about the ammonium nitrate. Israel I believe has a hand in pestering Iranians and Hezbollah with mysterious explosions, but I do not believe Israel consciously blows up such devastating targets.

So I go with the “Accident through gross negligence” theory for now.

CogitoErgoSum – The bigger question is why the U.S. continues to be so sloppy about Muslims it allows into the U.S. One after another they prove an enemy to the U.S. and yet still Muslim are allowed into the U.S. – no matter how many crimes they commit and no matter how many times many reveal their hostile intent. Whatever happened to the U.S. that made so valiant an effort to help win WWII?

R.P., I see one explanation that could make a very small amount of sense: By bringing them here, they are far easier to deal with than they are there. It is a hard to support argument; but the only one I see that does not involve treason or total incompetence. “Keep your friends close but your enemies closer?”

      2. you do realize that by it’s self the stuff although is highly corrosive is basically inert.
      3. someone needed to add oh lets say quite a number of gallons of some flammable liquid to the stuff, wait for about an hour and then a detonator was needed.

And Yohanan is right. At any given moment in a crowded city there are lots of people with cell phones.

Hezbollah would no doubt have had some evil intention when they stored this explosive material and it would most probably be aimed at Israel. It probably blew up out of slackness. I want to mention something off this topic. It is Sunday in Australia and I watch a TV progam “Outsiders” on Sky TV News. The presenters mentioned something about how some clergyman in the Vatican had praised China for its commitment to social justice. I was stunned. I know we have this present Pope seeming to support Islam, but to hear that some person in the Vatican could possibly praise atheistic, Communist China for its level of social justice amazed me. I googled “Has the Vatican praised China for its commitment to social justice” but the articles about a Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo praising China for its social justice were from February, 2018. “Outsiders” seems to usually be talking about recent events, so it seems a bit weird. I thought people here at Jihad Watch might be interested because of the way this present Pope seems so left wing and politically correct. One of the presenters on “Outsiders”, James Morrow, called this Pope the “woke Pope” today, which I thought was clever. For a Vatican Bishop to praise the Chinese regime, persecutor of Christians, amazed me. It seems they definitely have some strange people in the Vatican. I hadn’t heard about it previously. Of course, this Pope’s support for Islam is also really “off”.

Thanks for the comments, mortimer and James. The only reason I mentioned this information about someone from the Vatican praising the Chinese regime for its commitment to social justice was because I hadn’t heard anything about it at all. There’s plenty of news I don’t hear about. It was odd that the presenters on “Outsiders” seemed to be talking about old news. They usually discuss current news. I find both the leaders of the Catholic Church defending islam and telling us that it is peaceful and saying anything good about the vicious, totalitarian regime in China pretty disgusting. I ignore the views of such people. I was brought up as a Catholic and am still a Christian believer though belonging to no particular church, but if I find the views of leaders in any church foolish, I ignore them. I suppose there’s a wide diversity of opinions among the church leaders. I am certainly not a fan of this present Pope, who seems to be a very wishy washy, politically correct type of person.

And no–Muslims are not responsible for every ill in the world, They are not, for instance, responsible for the popularity of the Kardashians. But to pretend that Hezb’allah–the “Party of Allah”–has nothing to do with Islam is just ludicrous.

Wurmser, David (August 7, 2020). “Lebanon — what happened?”. Foundation for American Security and Freedom. https://www.fasfreedom.com/2020/08/lebanon-what-happened/

David Wurmser wrote there an informed background in contrast to current mainstream view:

The MV Rhosus made good its last shipment to its original destination of Beirut. The Mozambique mining order was cover story for high grade explosive nitrate for the Hezbollah from the get go.

There were three explosions (before the pressure wave Wilson condensation cloud) not two explosions – a.) small munitions or fireworks; b.) high explosive or “even rocket fuel”, and; c.) the large ammonium nitrate store (that belonged to Hezbollah).

Hangers 9 and 12 were under Hezbollah control, reportedly called by them “Fatima Gate”, and used for clandestine smuggling and importing and exporting terror materials. (Hezbollah also reportedly situates a missile factory under a stadium in Beirut and stores missiles in close proximity to civilians.)

There are disinformation campaigns by Hezbollah and the Lebanon government to deflect attention from their complicity in the disaster.

Parts of Lebanon’s population reportedly hold Hezbollah responsible for the catastrophe

More sources required for wiki consensus? See in Wurmser, report of an August 6 MTV interview with a retired inspector of Beirut port.
