More evidence of Turkey’s growing regional adventurism, which accords with Erdogan’s increasingly obvious desire to restore the Ottoman caliphate, and its embrace of jihadis and jihad activity.
“Turkey Deployed 27,000 Syrian Militants, Jihadists In Libya: Monitoring Group,” Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, August 1, 2020 (thanks to Henry):
Turkey has been deploying Syrian militants and jihadists of different nationalities in Libya to support the Government of National Accord (GNA), the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) revealed in a report on August 1.
According to the London-based monitoring group, a new batch of Syrian militants and jihadist arrived in Libya in the last few days.
The SOHR estimates that Turkey has deployed more than 17,000 Syrian militants, including 350 children, in Libya so far. At least 6,000 of them returned to Syria in the recent few months after receiving the full payment.
“Turkey continues to bring more factions’ fighters, mercenaries, to its camps and train them,” the SOHR’s report reads.
Besides deploying its Syrian proxies, Turkey also transported around 10,000 Jihadists of different nationalities to fight for the GNA in Libya. At least 2,500 of them are Tunisian.
Turkey began sending Syrian militants and jihadists to Libya last year. This step boosted the offensive capabilities of the GNA and allowed its forces to repel the Libyan National Army attack on the capital, Tripoli….

It’s like with the South China Sea. Oil matters. Turks are as prone to human greed as the Arabs.
J Morgan says
When is Turkey going to be thrown out of NATO?!
The Political Oracle says
Cliché question but one of relevance for sure. If you are a U.S. citizen, start with your congressional leaders. Write, write and then write some more. Never give up! Be a hairshirt on the backs of tyrants!
J Morgan says
Great advice!
Vladimir says
Never. Turkey is the West’s new enforcer in the Middle East region, as the West itself becomes more Islamic. I’m convinced that some of the West’s elites are more than willing to see Islam triumph, as I think they see Islam as a perfect form of social and political control over the masses that would enable their continued rule.
J Morgan says
Sick arrangement.
Vladimir says
Yes, but one I think where the deal has been already made. But that doesn’t mean they will win.
J Morgan says
Indeed. We shall see. Erdogan has far reaching ambitions and is really stretching his power these days. Though he would aspire to it, Islam is not going to take over large parts of Europe. People are going to have to protest the Islamisation of the EU (and America!) because the elites don’t care about the native citizens. Too bad that stupid word, “Racist,” carries so much weight and strikes fear and real threat of people losing their jobs. People at JW know that Islam is not a race, but Muslims so cunningly claim race victimhood to advance their self-serving goals.
SAFI says
Nah. There were probably some people in the US ‘deep state’ 15 years ago who were toying with the idea of letting Turkey be the “new enforcer” in MENA (as they started to prepare for the “pivot to Asia”) but I think most of them have since then realized that Turkey has its own agenda and is way too ambitious to be trusted with that role. But yes, it’s still very hard to imagine NATO showing Turkey the door…
Vladimir says
We’ll see. Certainly, Turkey is hard for them to ignore.
gravenimage says
Pretending that Erdogan is acting on behalf of the West here is absurd.
Jake says
Their ultimate goal is Egypt. That gets them next to Israel. Either Egypt hits back hard now, or it will find itself under assault from radicals financed and armed from next door.
Vladimir says
For Geostrategic reasons, anyone wanting to secure rule over the Middle East and North Africa must first subdue Egypt because of it’s location. That’s why Napoleon tried to take Egypt himself near the beginning of his career.

A return to the use of Ghazis and Bashi-Bazouks by a Neo-Ottoman regime.

……………….
More Jihad from Turkey. When are we going to realize Erdogan is not our ally, and finally kick Turkey out of NATO.
Reziac says
So, Turkey, with Erdogan’s desire to become the New Ottoman Empire, has already attacked the two weakest countries in the region (Syria and Libya). Now taking bets on Somalia, Chad, Mali, and Sudan…
SAFI says
You forgot Iraq. Turkey has also invaded and established military outposts deep into iraqi territory without Iraqi consent.

Good point. Erdog can only attack the weak. He would never stand up to Israel or the United States. I hate his kind. One day, Erdog will hit on a madman and find himself in trouble.

Erdogan is just pissed off at Egypt:

A simplistic form of logic is actually quite revealing about this bizarre situation:
Turkey is NATO, so
NATO has invaded Iraq and Syria
NATO had deployed 27000 jihadis to Libya
NATO wants to invade Greece
NATO wants to grab Cyprus
NATO is eyeing the destruction of Egypt
NATO wants the destruction of Israel
NATO buys Russian weapons
NATO converts churches to mosques
NATO quietly approves all of the above.
gravenimage says
NATO is indeed grotesquely remiss in doing nothing about Turkey–but claiming that it is NATO that is behind this resurgence of brutal Islam is ludicrous.
