Greece ramps up border security in preparation for Turkey to unleash another wave of Muslim migrants

Sep 11, 2020 1:00 pm By Christine Douglass-Williams 33 Comments

Turkey has been an ongoing menace to Greece. Early in August, women on the Greek island of Lesvos protested the inundation of illegal Muslim migrants. “‘They took advantage of our humanity and tolerance,’ said a protester, remembering that the people of Lesvos were once nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for their role in assisting illegal immigrants since 2015.” In June, illegal Muslim migrants built a mosque on a woman’s property near a migrant camp, while officials and police did nothing. And in July, Turkey provoked Greece by accusing it of showing “enmity towards Islam” because of its opposition to the conversion of Hagia Sophia to a mosque.

Turkish President Erdogan flexed his muscles at Greece last month when Turkish spy planes violated Greece airspace 45 times; he is flexing it at the EU, too, as he threatens to “open the gates” to Europe and flood it with illegal migrants. Now, “Greece is preparing for the possibility of a repeat of the events that unfolded along the border in late February to March, when the country was inundated by tens of thousands of migrants. The Greek government had claimed to have stopped over 50,000 from entering the country.”

How Greece and the EU deal with Erdogan in the coming days and weeks — as his influence rises in the Middle East (and evidently beyond) — is crucial.

“Greece Strengthens Border as Minister Warns of New Migrant Surge,” by Chris Tomlinson, Breitbart, September 8, 2020:

Greek Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum Giorgos Koumoutsakos has warned that Turkey may unleash another wave of migrants into Greece.

Mr Koumoutsakos said that over the past 15 days, the land border with Turkey in the Evros region had seen a new wave of migratory pressure, warning that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan could open the gates for migrants, as he did earlier in the year.

He added that he suspected the Erdogan regime would threaten to open the gates to Europe if sanctions are considered at an EU summit scheduled for the 24th and 25th of September,  newspaper Proto Thema reports.

“If Erdogan flirts with the thought of exerting pressure through migration, he may not stop at Evros but move on to the islands,” Koumoutsakos said, referring to the Aegean islands, where migrant camps are already heavily overcrowded.

To help fortify the Evros border even further, Greece is expecting 400 new border guards, agents of the European Union border agency Frontex, and an expansion of the eight miles of fencing already in place by March 2021.

Michalis Chrysochoidis, Greek Minister for Citizen Protection, said the expansion would cost around €63 million (£57m/$74m) to complete, adding: “The mission and character of the fence are defensive. It will contribute to the defence and protection of our country.”

Greece is preparing for the possibility of a repeat of the events that unfolded along the border in late February to March, when the country was inundated by tens of thousands of migrants. The Greek government had claimed to have stopped over 50,000 from entering the country.

Question for you, I am not super knowledgeable with what goes on over there, but why is it that that the Turkish are seeking refugee elsewhere? Isn’t Turkey a country of progress? What is their need to leave? Thanks. Blessings

Turkey doesn’t have a welfare system that allows illegal migrants free food, schooling, housing, and medical care. Young Muslim male migrants know they can rape, steal and vandalize with impunity in Western nations. Why would they want to stay in a miserable country like turkey when they can reach paradise by crossing a couple borders.

There are also a lot of Muslim migrants coming through Turkey from Syria and even places like north Africa. Few of them are stopping in Turkey–they are continuing on to Europe, where they can collect generous welfare and often wage violent Jihad.

This is not at all a case of “poor muslim migrants” but a well thought out plan of muslim nations. KSA, UAE Indonesia, Malaysia when combined are multi trillionaires. Why the heck are they not offering their poor brethren shelter and food. They had spent billions to build thousands of mosques and madarsa but not for refugees. Spread migrants every where and create a mayhem, civil wars and blood bath. Migrants don’t follow the rules of their host nation. That’s a bad bad news

I firmly believe that Turkey seeks to re-create the Ottoman Empire. These “migrants” are actually the vanguard for the invasion. This vanguard will be behind the defensive lines wreaking havoc.

It really is time to use a more accurate word than “migrant”, who is a person who moves to another state as an immigrant with all the due permissions and papers after due process.

Persons leaving Turkey, a safe country, do not qualify as refugees or asylum seekers.
Persons crossing a border without permission are illegal entrants, criminals in most states.
Illegal entrants, particularly those who use force to enter, are invaders.

These mostly young men are invaders. Let them be called such.

When “of immigrant background” becomes a description of 51% of the population (as it certainly will in the future), Austria can say a permanent goodbye to its history and identity as part of European civilisation.

Illegal migrants to Greece should be taken to Cyprus and shoved across into the Turkish north part of the island.

That happened a few months ago where some illegal immagrants went to the North by the help of Turkey and then they tried to go to the south so the border had to be tightened. I wish they just wouldn’t come at all to Greece or Cyprus except if they are Christians from Middle East or Pakistan or apostates

I could agree with that statement but they might stay permanently in Cyprus which would make unifying the island nation much harder in the future.
The EU and NATO need to get their heads out of their asses and start treating turkey as a hostile enemy in that region of the Mediterranean. Void immediately their membership in nato

I agree what happened weeks ago was when Erdogan open the floodgates for the migrants to go to Greece Turkey also took them to North Cyprus and Encouraged them to go to the South so the border had to be tightened dispite Cyprus being illegally occupied and the Turks blaming us for everything they still cross to the South and look for jobs and get Health service there but they don’t want the island reunited

Greece should prepare GPS-guided boats that will take migrants to Turkish sandy beaches where a ramp will drop allowing the migrants to walk ashore in Turkey.

If and when this illegal surge happens, the objective of illegals will be to get to the countries rich enough and stupid enough to offer them free money and free housing, or free accommodation in hotels.

The quick sea-route from Greece to Brindisi in S.Italy will be available to them, and the current Government of the Left in Italy (with a con-man as Prime Minister) will welcome them, so problems for the invaders could be very quickly solved by this route.

It is usually forgotten that for all its history, its beauty and its art, Italy is a banana republic. Without the bananas.

“the objective of illegals will be to get to the countries rich enough and stupid enough to offer them free money and free housing…”

These “rich” Western countries will eventually become not so rich. Skyrocketing welfare costs for migrants who are very minimally working – but not nearly enough to support the needed increased tax base…

Rich countries of the West always act as a magnet to poor people. They all want a better life (this is human nature). There are tens of millions of Muslims and Africans in Europe. The fact that in one recent year Angela Merkel (the German Chancellor) allowed 1.1 million Muslims (99% were youngish men of fighting age) from Syria into Germany tells all asylum seekers that Europe is for everyone. Just get up and get there. And when you are there you get $$, free housing, immigration help, legal aid, medical. Also hundreds of thousands of your ethnic group (and bleeding hearts) are there to help you. Where would you rather live: in Afghanistan with the poverty and murderous Taliban? In Syria with war and bombed out cities? In Sudan with war and grinding poverty? Or in London, French Riviera, Rome, Brussels, Amsterdam or Stockholm? .

Some Muslims just want a better life–but many want to impose the horrors of Islam on us.
