Odense Mayor: ‘We will send a clear societal signal to imams who practise Sharia that it is punishable in Denmark’

Sep 28, 2020 9:00 am By Robert Spencer 23 Comments

Odense’s mayor, Peter Rahbæk Juel, said: “It is psychological violence, carried out by means of Sharia Law. It’s unacceptable, and it hurts my stomach to read these things….We will send a clear societal signal to imams and preachers who practise Sharia Law that it is punishable in Denmark.”

Ultimately every Western nation, and every non-Muslim nation all over the world, is going to have to decide whether it is going to preserve its freedoms or submit to Sharia. Those who claim that Sharia is completely compatible with Western secular societal norms are either ignorant of the nature of Sharia or flagrantly dishonest. Abu Bashar, a well-known imam in Odense, is applying Sharia as it is codified, and is clearly acting against the principle of the equality of rights of women. This conflict cannot be avoided forever.

“Odense authorities report ‘crazy’ imam over Sharia Law document,” by Luke Roberts, CPH Post, September 25, 2020:

Remarry? Lose your kids. Move further than 130km? Lose your kids. These are just some of the requirements and limitations in place if a woman decides she wishes to get a divorce through the well-known imam Abu Bashar.

The document, which Berlingske came into possession of, is the first time such practices have been certified, and in contravening Danish law it has unsurprisingly caused alarm amongst local authorities.

Divorce of this kind is in accordance with Sharia Law, but not Danish divorce law. The document seen by the media outlet had been signed by both the woman involved and imam Abu Bashar.

Well known in the area, the imam operates in Odense, and this contract in particular relates to a couple living in Vallmose. Amongst other things, it states that if the woman behaves in such a way that her or her family’s honour is violated, she loses the right to the children.

Odense’s mayor, Peter Rahbæk Juel, was naturally shocked and distressed by the news.

“It is psychological violence, carried out by means of Sharia Law. It’s unacceptable, and it hurts my stomach to read these things,” he said….

Juel states that he hopes through such strong action “we will send a clear societal signal to imams and preachers who practise Sharia Law that it is punishable in Denmark”.

the vast majority of politicians anywhere know nothing about islam and sharia. They do more harm than those who actively push it. But Robert Spencer is patient and calm and reaches more and more people. Once a critical mass is achieved things will move fast.

I think you’re right about that, Spencer does have an air of calm about him. And I suggest it’s because he has the truth on his side. He has the confidence of knowing he’s right, his arguments against islam are typically unassailable in their veracity. I suppose that’s why so many on the left hate him, he’s so darn good at what he does.

“It is psychological violence, carried out by means of Sharia Law.

See, this is how muslims are undermining our laws and societies. They are like a den of vipers that traverse our backyard in a mass of tunnels, and periodically poke their heads up to attack. I’ve got a hardcore leftist relative that thinks I’m just paranoid, or worse, that I’m a racist who exaggerates the threat to hide my own racism. She has never stated that view bluntly, but in her own roundabout way she let’s me know. But unsurprisingly, she has never even heard of Robert Spencer, or Pam Geller, or Geert Wilders, and the good work they do; she knows nothing about muslims and islam outside the honey dew view of the mainstream media. She has never even sampled the koran–I’ve read it all–and knows virtually nothing about the violence islamic doctrines contain. So naturally from her point of view I’m just paranoid and bigoted because she knows nothing of the murderous bigotry and hate of islam. And I think this is a common problem among many on the left, they still buy the old it’s a “religion of peace” lie despite the 1400 year history that proves them wrong. Last time she visited I was told of a co-worker of hers who is a muslim, a real nice guy! Frankly, I doubt it’s true, but conjuring such a person is her equivalent of a tour de force argument against me. And of course I had to concede that, of course, that totally makes up for all the terror, wars, and oppression that islam has caused in the last 1400 years. My sarcasm incensed her. This is how these people think, her entire world view of islam is based on that one guy she knows, or allegedly knows. She can’t see beyond her own 6 foot domain, it’s all about her and what’s in arm’s reach. Ignorant buffoons, that’s what they are; dangerous too, because their indifference is hurting the freedoms and security of the west. If too many people are stupid they won’t do what needs to be done to stop islam, like vote out the traitors and staying vigilant against those vipers in our yard.

How about offering the relative a Quran, and $50 to read 5 carefully chosen verses in the Quran? The only requirement being that she tells you what she thinks each one means – and you will make no effort to correct or add anything. That’s $10 a lookup and short read – easy money. If she won’t accept the offer then there is no doubt about who is prejudiced and you can always point out that her opinion of Islam is based on complete ignorance of its source beliefs. There is also the possibility that she has doubts about Islam but is afraid to voice them for fear of losing, “popularity”.

Once the Quran has implanted in her mind that “Allah” intends harm to her, the infidel, even though she continues to claim that Islam is peaceful, there will be a mental prick that forever jabs her conscience until she learns enough to know for certain..

I agree with your approach, sometimes you can plant a seed in their brains. That’s how it was for me not long after 9/11, I was still calling islam a religion of peace cuz I didn’t know better. And when another relative of mine expressed fear and disgust about islam I was shocked, how dare you say that about the religion of peace! Are you nuts? I thought. But her words were the mental prick that keep me alert for any information that might confirm her view. Not long after I discovered Geert Wilders and Spencer and Geller, and then I knew this relative was justified in her fears and anger. So who knows, maybe expressing my views will do some good in the long run. All we can do as stay strong for the truth, I guess, and hope for the best. Thanks. 🙂

It seems incredible that so many people have observed Islam in the news, with Muslims justifying terrorism in the name of Allah, yet stay quiet about their suspicions. The media is large factor in trying to spread the CAIR illusion that there are just a “few” bad characters(ISIS, just a few?) who don’t understand the Quran correctly. Strangely, they are the men who read the Quran most diligently. It seems the herd believes that if they ignore danger, it might go away.

In the theme song of tv series “Monk” is a lyric that fits this intentional ignorance: “You better pay attention or this world we love so much, might just kill you.”

That is not uncommon. A typical Leftist’s “knowledge” of islam is gained from the Leftist mainstream media, clueless politicians on both sides of the fence – and whitewashed propaganda from the local imams. They don’t fact check or read the primary islamic texts, but somehow feel that they know what is in them. Literally unbelievable.

And you are correct, they are ignorant buffoons – but dangerous because they still vote…

    ……………….

In English common law in order for a contract to be made the terms must be certain, as in clearly understood. Unless this contract specifies the meaning of honour and violated, this “contract” would not be enforcible under the common-law. I would be curious in the opinion of a Swedish lawyer as to whether it would be enforcible in Sweden.

I would also like to see the text of the Swedish law which makes the practice of sharia law unlawful. I am sceptical that there is such a law. A Muslim who does not practice sharia law is either an ex-Muslim or a Muslim in name only. I do not understand why otherwise intelligent people in Western countries expect Muslims to leave their religion at the border.

The evidence that Islam is incompatible with western values Is overwhelming. Further Muslim immigration is madness.

I think above 5% Muslim, the burdens and problems put on a society become significant. This is so even though many Muslims are innocent, uninformed, and misinformed by their imams about what the core texts of Islam say and about the life of Muhammad detailed in the earliest Muslim biography. Muslims are supposed to pray the Qur’an in the original Arabic, but four-fifths of Muslims around the globe do not speak Arabic, so they don’t know much about what they are praying. They pray the Arabic words without understanding them. Even those who do speak Arabic find the archaic Arabic of the Qur’an often hard to understand. On top of that, even if you read the Qur’an in your own language, it is very hard to understand without the context provided by the hadith and the tafsir, which provide the context that is missing from the Qur’an. In other words, many Muslims don’t know much about Islam’s teachings, except what is picked up by osmosis from the society around them. Understanding the core texts is not one of Islam’s five pillars.

Nevertheless, above 5% of the population, and you start to get large numbers of death threats against any public figure who criticizes Islam or runs afoul of its ethos. Backing up those widespread death threats, the number of jihadists becomes a burdensome security problem. The atmosphere of intimidation furthermore causes many public figures, journalists, comedians, artists, etc., to self-censor about Islam, and leaves the field of public discourse to those who either knowingly or ignorantly espouse the false view that Islam is a religion of peace and that it is fully compatible with liberal democracy. In fact, the horrendous human rights record in the Islamic world (even the least bad Islamic nation, Indonesia, is not up to the standards of full liberal democracy, while the other Islamic nations are to varying degrees human rights disaster areas) shows that Islam is, well, not absolutely incompatible, but largely incompatible with liberal democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, etc. Muhammad united religion and state in his own person, and he is the prime exemplar for Muslims. Thus mainstream Islam has always tended toward totalitarian theocracy such as we find in Iran and Saudi Arabia.

I believe Robert Spencer once pointed out a cycle in Islamic nations. At one phase of the cycle, Muslims look around and, finding circumstances not good in various ways, and start saying that the reason things are bad is that Muslims are not being good enough Muslims. Accordingly, many Muslims start to demand that Islamic law be imposed more thoroughly. Thus over time, the nation becomes more thoroughly sharia governed. But then Muslims start to suffer under sharia, which is a barbaric totalitarian system. The suffering goes on for a while, until people start to long for and seek to bring about reduction of sharia’s influence. Thus, over time, the sharia ethos and sharia law recede to some degree. But then as time goes by, people again start to attribute any problems in society to insufficient reliance on sharia, and so the sharia ethos again grows, and this leads again to the more thorough imposition of sharia. So the whole cycle starts over. But there is never a complete escape from Sharia. It just waxes and wanes, ebbs and flows like a tide.

The only escape from the ever waxing and waning influence of Sharia is the abandonment of Islam. By some accounts, Iran has been suffering so long under sharia that a quite large part of the population has abandoned Islam.

“I think above 5% Muslim, the burdens and problems put on a society become significant.”

That sounds about right, their influence at 5% is way more than what would be expected.

At 10%, a tipping point is reached. If the host country does not take extreme measures to counteract, a significant degree of sharia law will take hold…

Hello, Westman. Got a recommendation for what those five Quran verses should be?

By the way, Jihad Watch usually quotes an excerpt of a source text; in this case the source text is
    http://cphpost.dk/?p=118716 .
But here the source text is quoted in its entirety and leaves out crucial information: What is “The document”, and what or who is Berlingske? Let’s see the document (in Danish? in Arabic? in English?).
