We Haven’t Seen Political Violence Like This in America Since… the Civil War

Sep 3, 2020 6:00 pm By Robert Spencer

My latest in the American Thinker:

The murder of Trump supporter Jay Bishop by Black Lives Matter rioter Michael Reinoehl in Portland Saturday night was a watershed moment, an introduction of the political violence that has been common in many other countries but has seldom been seen in America. However, it does have antecedents: the heated runup to the Civil War is the most exact analogy, which is not all that surprising given that we may now be careening toward a second one.

The political violence broke out in the Kansas Territory. Senator Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois was the main architect of the principle of popular sovereignty, the idea that slavery would be approved or outlawed in the new territories by popular vote. Douglas, who had presidential aspirations, drafted the Kansas-Nebraska Act to establish new territories by those names in part of the land that had been acquired in the Louisiana Purchase and was still unorganized. The act stipulated that Kansas and Nebraska would decide by popular sovereignty whether to allow slavery or not. Since both territories lay north of the 36°30′ parallel, slavery should have been outlawed in both of them, according to the Missouri Compromise.

That should have been the end of the matter, with popular sovereignty definitively ruled out for Kansas and Nebraska. Instead, Douglas and his allies were determined to repeal the Missouri Compromise and won President Franklin Pierce over to the idea that doing so would be the best way to bring peace to the nation once and for all over the slavery question. Slavery would be voted up or down in various states and territories, and all would be well.

Congress approved the Kansas-Nebraska Act, Pierce signed it, and all was not well. As Rating America’s Presidents: An America-First Look at Who Is Best, Who Is Overrated, and Who Was An Absolute Disaster explains, the fatal weakness of the principle of popular sovereignty immediately became obvious: proponents and foes of slavery rushed into Kansas and Nebraska in order to tip the vote in their direction. Armed conflict ensued and persisted throughout Pierce’s presidency; “Bleeding Kansas” became a symbol of the intractability of the slavery issue and the absolute ineffectiveness of President Pierce.

There is much more. Read the rest here.

That’s bound to happen when there’s so much corruption and division in a society. Either civil war or total submission to tyranny. At least the USA is fighting back, unlike the rest of the West.

Black unemployment hit its historical low in the history of our nation under Trump.

He also rolled back Joe Biden’s brainchild – The 1994 Crime Bill – which devastated black communities and black families with unfair, widespread prosecutions of blacks, incarcerating millions disproportionately to whites, with cruel and unusual prison sentences, creating even more black children growing up without a father. Destroying lives over simple drug offenses. That was JOE BIDEN, and he’s still proud of it.

If we’re going to assign blame to just one man for “racism” in the criminal justice system over the last 26 years, no one has earned that responsibility more than Joe Biden.

This article is incorrect. For the U.S. Fascist (Democratic) Party has long used assassinations and violence to obtain and keep governmental control for its own profiteering purposes. One only has to look back to the founding of the U.S. Democratic Party and all across The Republic U.S. Democrats (particularly in big cities) used assassination/riots/violence to gain and keep political control Fact. One can also surmise the assassinations/attempted assassinations of Abraham Lincoln, James A. Garfield, William McKinley, John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan and others too… were all perpetrated by the U.S. Democratic Party and/or its paid henchmen.

Those assassinated are all Republicans save for two devoted socialists John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. All the others have been Republicans. Facts matter. Spencer is not revealing the true evil nature of the U.S. Democratic (Fascist) Party? Ask yourselves… why is that? U.S. history is awash with U.S. Democrats using violence and murder against their political opponents or witnesses who could put them in prison for high crimes. Kennedy Crime Family… Clinton Crime Family… it goes back much further than even them. Guess why law and order/patriots/nationalists are being arrested under false pretenses, silenced/banned online, deleted off social media platforms and otherwise victimized/harassed/rendered unemployed in their lives? Because Fascism is here… and it is as evil as Communism.

You are, Seeking Deliverance, at best, deeply confused, and I state this as one who has no respect for the modern Democratic Party.

But first things first, you yourself brought up the founding of the Democratic Party and so I will address this.

It began as a feud between two of President Washington’s cabinet members, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton, over the issue of how much—or little—federal power extended (the immediate cause was the matter of a National Bank).

No way at this point was the founding of the Democratic Party, originally called Jeffersonian, then (yes) Republican, then Democratic-Republican, then finally Democrat by the late 1820’s, something inimical to the fledgling American Republic. But also no way, per your words, the party of Jefferson (which personally I admire because it has as its basic premise that government should be kept to a minimum—which is why I and a far greater man than I, one Ronald Reagan, could describe ourselves as liberals {meant in the Jeffersonian sense of limited government}, was a political party which had the nefarious and iniquitous intentions you have ascribed to it.

Much more could I say—much— but I will leave it at this until you respond to me. And to assert that JFK and his brother, RFK, Malcolm X and MLK were “all perpetrated by the “U.S. Democratic Party…” not only discredits you personally but all those who agree with you.

Your turn. Give it a shot.

Wellington, are you that uneducated on U.S. history? There was never a “party switch” as you herein claim and regurgitate from your Marxist mass media no doubt. U.S. Democratic Party has been racist and white supremacist from its start by Andrew Jackson and others. I wish people would educate themselves on U.S. history in totality prior to passing comment/opinion as if factual. You’re wrong on several levels. Fascism is here and it is the U.S. Democratic Party, Canada’s Liberal Party and I’m sure their parallel parties within the U.K./European Union. Fascism (socialism) is as evil as Marxism (communism). Fact.

        • Wellington says

          Sep 3, 2020 at 8:12 pm

Complete positional switch, you ignoramus, Seeking Deliverance.

Some two hundred years ago or so, the liberals wanted less government (e.g., Jefferson) and the conservatives (e.g., Hamilton) wanted more government.

I could write much more but to what effect? You are probably beyond reclamation. You don’t even realize that the conservatism of Hamilton wanted more government and the liberalism of Jefferson wanted less government.

A la Hamlet, God, where to begin with you? That is the question.

Interesting to know we have a couple leftwing readers/users in here…

Which U.S. political party established the K.K.K.?
Which U.S. political party established the Fascist “New Deal”?
Which U.S. political party uses murder and violence/threats to gain and maintain government control?

While you’re busy educating yourself on the entirety of U.S. history over the span of the upcoming week or two… spend your last couple hours wondering why U.S. T.W.A. flight #800 was shot out of the sky off the east coast of the United States. You demonstrate, Seeking Deliverance, the fact that a little knowledge is a bad thing.

And, by the way, the New Deal was not fascist, it was just mostly ineffective, contra Schlesinger historiography, and contra too to rugged individualism, not that you could detect the difference here, lumping, as you do, a lot of nonsense, true rot and bad economic policies together as some part of a much greater conspiracy, like that which, as you have alleged, killed JFK, RFK, MLK, et al.

Seek help sooner than later, SD. And run by me again your evidence, per your 6:58 P.M. post above the evidence you have that the Democratic Party or, per your words, “its henchmen,” was responsible for the assassination of JFK. Missed it the first time.

Yes, Robert Spencer is eminently correct. President Franklin Pierce was a disastrous Chief Executive, as would be his successor, James Buchanan. Both were brilliant lawyers but horribly failed as leaders of the American Republic. They were both called “doughboys,” meaning that though they were from the North (New Hampshire and Pennsylvania respectively, which just happen to be my two favorite states, but I digress) they made excuse after excuse for the slave-holding South.

Pierce’s greatest error was endorsing the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 and Buchanan’s greatest error was endorsing the sham document which was the Lecompton Constitution. But each, good men in their own right and who both experienced much personal tragedy, which will break your heart if you read about it, especially that of Pierce, were bad for the greatest nation on earth.

And then Abraham Lincoln came along. And he saved America. And by doing so he did as great a deed as ever has been performed by any representative of the human species, as another truly great man, one Winston Churchill, understood quite well—and understood in detail as was his wont, as it was Lincoln’s.

Two greater human being in all of history would be deuce difficult to find than Lincoln and Churchill. Both saved their nation—and very great nations at that.

Note that Seeking Deliverance here has *nothing* critical to say about the vicious Fascists–why does this not surprise?

Then, he does not back up his claim that Churchill was somehow beholden to Jews in defending Britain against the Nazis, nor that these Jews–somehow–forced poor old Adolf to conquer his neighbors and commit genocide.

          More:

It seems that Seeking Deliverance hates the idea of Jews being able to live free of the Muslim heel. Why does *this* not surprise?

Then, the claim that Britain declared war against Germany in 1933 is *quite* false. Britain declared war on the Axis after the Nazis invaded Poland in 1939, because they had a mutual defense pact with them. Why does Seeking Deliverance have to lie about this? Moreover, this is well known.

Does Seeking Deliverance believe that the Fascists had the right to march into Austria, and to invade Czechoslovakia and Poland? How about the Netherlands, France, Denmark, and the attempted invasion of Britain? Waiting…

          More:

          …………………………..

How is the Nazis invading other sovereign nations law and order? How is their crushing dissent and freedom of speech law and order? How is attacking people in the streets law and order? How is genocide against their own citizens–Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses–law and order?

Churchill had to make many difficult decisions while leading the UK against the massive tyrant who was Hitler. Respecting the UK decision to bomb the French African fleet because it vacillated on whether it would go with the Nazis or the UK, this is in the same league with Churchill not evacuating Coventry even though he knew it would b bombed and thus alert the Nazis that the Brits (and Poles) had broken their code.

Wise up, Seeking Deliverance. You so far have demonstrated to all of reason and those who prize facts (and what again, I might ask, if your evidence for a conspiracy to kill JFK?) that you are a joke.

An estimated 25,000 French civilians died during the Allied artillery and aerial bombardment operations to soften coastal German defenses just prior to the invasion. Very sad, but it was unavoidable. Jamie Glazov’s guest, Roy Barzali (hope I spelled their names correctly), has some interesting information on this very thing, about what is happening in this country. And Why it’s happening.

Wellington and Graven and their quislings herein conveniently ignore the facts so as to portend they know the truth. In fact, they do not. If they did, they wouldn’t be in here repeatedly hurling personal insults in lieu of providing facts counter to mine.

They won’t even research T.W.A. Flight #800’s downing off the East coast mere months after the murderous Clintons (President and First Lady) had their personal financial records subpoenaed by U.S. investigators who were looking into Rose Law Firm (Little Rock, Arkansas) criminal misconduct. Guess who was avoided Flight #800? An financial investment officer from… Little Rock, Arkansas? How about the 700+ eyewitnesses who identified missile entrails being seen leading into Flight #800 just before it exploded in mid-air? His about the fact a “short circuit” cannot occur within a commercial airline fuel tank? Or how about the 700+ witnesses not being accounted for in the FBI’s “official account”? Or the fact the U.S. CIA immediately involved itself in a commercial airline disaster when this never occurred beforehand and is not within the jurisdiction of the C.I.A.? So much evidence against the Clintons but all of it routinely covered up or witnesses killed off.

GravenImage and Wellington know little to nothing about the true history of the United States. More the pity. Gold ahead, keep acting like school children hurling petty insults I care not. Au revoir et bonne chance amis.

P.S. Why did a shekel man purchase the twin towers only to take out a full insurance policy on said towers a mere week or two prior to their being downed?

Don’t believe a word Graven or Wellington has to say… they’re merely “towing the line” in here. With that, adieu.

It is unfair to enter into a battle of wits with an unarmed man so I won’t try. But (there’s always a “but”) your flagrant anti-Semitism and gullibility to numerous and ridiculous conspiracy theories demand simply that you be labelled a “nut case” — a dangerous “nut case” but a “nut case” all the same.

      …………………..

When has Robert Spencer *ever* supported violence of any kind? Citations, please.

And what Trump supporter killed a person for writing about the President’s record? I have heard of no such case.

Then, the claim that most violence in America is perpetrated by the “Parsal Party”–what is the “Parsal Party”? I can usually guess what this semi-literate actually meant to say, but in this instance I have no idea.

I’ve never seen Robert Spencer support (rightwg – sic) Right wing violence.

The people doing the “protesting”, rioting, arson, looting, and vandalism aren’t conservatives. They are Joe Biden voters.

When did a Trump supporter murder a lawful protester who Trump doesn’t like? Didn’t hear of that one. But I did hear about the Antifa thug in Portland last week who murdered a Trump supporter wearing MAGA attire. Did you hear of that one? Probably not, since the DNC MSM doesn’t cover such events because that doesn’t fit their narrative.

When a neo-Nazi ran over a BLM supporter in Charlottesville in 2017, the DNC MSM made a big deal about it for years, labeling Trump and all Republicans as “racists” simply because the perp was a neo-Nazi. But when an Antifa Democrat murders a Trump supporter, it’s deafening silence, and has nothing at all to do with the Left and Democrat party ideals. It’s gross hypocrisy.

  12. OLD GUY says

    Sep 4, 2020 at 11:45 am

The question on this political violence is who is really behind it.
Is it the Republicans, is it the Democrats or could it be the New World Order, how about Russia we seem to blame them allot, then again the Chinese are kind of pissed at Trump for cutting into there gravy train. Take it a step further and it could be the Drugs, or Global Warming over heating peoples brains.
The truth of it is that there is a hell of allot of things that are contributing to what is going on, and a major lack of common sense. People stop and think of what you are doing to your neighbors and fellow human beings in the name of politics and a handful of bad police officers.
If you are a rioter/looter/killer you are committing a crime and you definitely are not improving this country through destroying it. Peaceful demonstrations, YES. Take part in your community and country and work to make changes that benefit all members of society, clean up your neighborhood and community, help improve your children’s lives and education system. Promote love thy neighbor and consider joining a service club.

Once again, it is the submarine Islamists who are actually behind this murder. BLM is just something they are using for the present.
