Muslim writer Wajahat Ali claims in the New York Times that “If Amy Coney Barrett Were Muslim–It’s not hard to imagine how conservatives would smear her religious beliefs.”
Smearing someone else’s religious beliefs is different from calling out human rights abuses in the defense of free societies and human rights. It is difficult to imagine that Wajahat Ali himself is not fully aware of the obvious conflicts between Sharia and Western societies, including:
- Teachings on the supremacy of men over women, including the mandate to men to beat women “from whom you fear disodience” (Qur’an 4:34):
- Female genital mutilation (Umdat al-Salik e4.3), which due to mass migration has become a growing problem in Western countries, which ostensibly protect the rights of women as human beings equal to men;
- Child marriage, justified by the example of Muhammad’s marriage to Aisha. This is not only loathsome pedophilia, but abusive of children;
- The Qur’anic mandates to wage war against Christians (cf. 9:29), which is resulting today in the genocide of Christians that is taking place in Nigeria and elsewhere in Africa;
- The example of Muhammad allowing for slavery, resulting today in the ongoing enslavement of blacks in North Africa by Arabs.
There is much, much more that could be added to this list. Women are not deemed inferiors in Christian doctrine; and neither are “infidels.” Gays are not stoned to death or flogged.
Meanwhile, even as new confirmation comes daily that Sharia is grossly incompatible with the Western understanding of human rights, the West faces:
- The Muslim Brotherhood’s (and its associates) infiltration of Western society with the stated goal, according to a captured internal document, of advancing Sharia and leading to the collapse of Western civilization from within;
- The relentless attack on the freedom of speech by Islamic groups who are acting in accord with anti-free speech initiatives of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation;
- The consequent general acceptance of Islamic blasphemy restrictions, such that anyone who risks criticizing (much less “smearing“) Muhammad risks his or her life and is subjected to vilification and ostracism;
- The spread of the jihad ideology in mosques and madrassas throughout the West;
- The global ambitions of Sharia-supporting nations such as Iran and now Turkey.
Wajahat Ali ignores all this. (It is no surprise that he was seen on stage at the CAIR-Sacramento Valley Annual Banquet.) He levies an accusation against Ben Carson in attempting to support his claim:
Earlier, in 2015, Mr. Carson wrote in a Facebook post, “I could never support a candidate for president of the United States that was Muslim and had not renounced the central tenant [sic] of Islam: Shariah law.”
But Carson is absolutely correct, and his caution is for good reason. Those who manipulate identity politics and victimhood should ponder the fact that this caution does not exist for Hindus or in fact for adherents of any other mainstream religion. There are cogent reasons for that.
Ali goes on:
That happens to be the same year Judge Barrett signed an open letter to Catholic bishops saying, “We give witness that the church’s teachings — on the dignity of the human person and the value of human life from conception to natural death; on the meaning of human sexuality, the significance of sexual difference and the complementarity of men and women; on openness to life and the gift of motherhood; and on marriage and family founded on the indissoluble commitment of a man and a woman — provide a sure guide to the Christian life, promote women’s flourishing, and serve to protect the poor and most vulnerable among us.”
Ali dismantles his own arguments via the contrast effect. Normative Islam has no respect for “the dignity of the human person and the value of human life.” As for the open letter’s declaration of differences between men and women, biological science proves it. The open letter poses no threat to human rights, nor to the rule of law.
It is ridiculous to compare Christian principles to Sharia, but Ali does just that, demonstrating that the woke crowd has succumbed not only to cowardice and dhimmitude, but to idiocy as well. America’s freedoms are built on principles of human rights and the equality between all people before the law. These principles are rooted in Judeo-Christian ethics, and are not found in Sharia.
The biggest threat in America now is from within: that the red-green axis has become the mainstream.
“If Amy Coney Barrett Were Muslim: It’s not hard to imagine how conservatives would smear her religious beliefs,” by Wajahat Ali, The New York Times, October 13, 2020:
Amy Coney Barrett, President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, has faced immense scrutiny of her religious beliefs, and we need to be vigilant against any religious bias or discrimination.
But I marvel at the hypocrisy of Republicans who are expressing shock and outrage over this, after the way the right has treated Muslims….
I can’t help wondering: How would Republicans behave if Judge Barrett were a Democrat whose strongly held religious beliefs came from Islam instead of Catholicism?
We all know how it would go.
Republicans would demand she prove that she was not “working with our enemies.” That’s what Glenn Beck, the conservative radio host and conspiracy theorist, called for when Keith Ellison was elected as the first Muslim to Congress.
They’d probably use her faith to accuse her of hoping to create a “Shariah state” through judicial activism. That what conservative bloggers did in 2011 when Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey nominated Sohail Mohammed, a Muslim originally from India, for a seat on the Superior Court of Passaic County.
If Judge Barrett wore a hijab, Jeanine Pirro, the Fox News host, would question whether her religious beliefs were in opposition to the Constitution. That’s the ugly accusation Ms. Pirro levied against Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota in 2019….
Judge Barrett co-wrote a 1998 law review article about the moral and legal “bind” that death penalty cases might present Catholic judges. What if she had been Muslim and had written about Muslim judges instead? Would Ben Carson call her “schizophrenic?” In 2016, that’s how he described Muslims who embrace American values like democracy and the separation of church and state.
Earlier, in 2015, Mr. Carson wrote in a Facebook post, “I could never support a candidate for president of the United States that was Muslim and had not renounced the central tenant [sic] of Islam: Shariah law.”
That happens to be the same year Judge Barrett signed an open letter to Catholic bishops saying, “We give witness that the church’s teachings — on the dignity of the human person and the value of human life from conception to natural death; on the meaning of human sexuality, the significance of sexual difference and the complementarity of men and women; on openness to life and the gift of motherhood; and on marriage and family founded on the indissoluble commitment of a man and a woman — provide a sure guide to the Christian life, promote women’s flourishing, and serve to protect the poor and most vulnerable among us.”…..
PRCS says
Cool heads would not ‘smear’ her for those ‘religious’ beliefs. Rather, as laid out: she should be politely, factually, and rigorously challenged to explain their applicability in U.S. jurisprudence.
Terry Gain says
Of course Islam is incompatible with the American Constitution and American values, but I think everyone, with the possible exception of Ted Cruz, would chicken out and avoid the issue like the plague.
And if anyone did try to question a Muslim concerning her beliefs that person would be shouted down for violating the nominee’s freedom of “religion” and for attempting to impose a religious test.
Is it yet clear to anyone else where conceding that Islam is a religion inevitably leads?
PRCS says
“with the possible exception of Ted Cruz”
A journey of a thousand miles begins with…
Of course, such queries SHOULD begin with lower level political candidates—members of congress, state legislators, etc.

There is a real problem that might open the gates of hell for our country. Religion and government must be separate. It must. Any religion has no right to subject their morals or belief systems on others. This lady may not be a real threat except to people who believe it is the woman & doctors choice for an abortion before 5 months or that Gays have some Choice in their sexual identity, which they do not. But if this lady goes in, THEN OF COURSE MUSLIMS WILL FOLLOW AND THEY CANNOT SEPARATE SLAM FROM GOVERNMENT. Islam is government. They will INSIST WE MUST FOLLOW THEIR ‘MORALS’ by Allah’s command which they firmly Believe. This opens the gates of hell. I cannot see how Christians do not see this. If we did like Samoa and legally made US a Christian country it would not be so bad but that can never happen with our Constitution. But we must not let people have power if their religion is so ingrained that they cannot separate. Muslims cannot. Some Christians, not all, also cannot separate and actually want to impose what they believe on others. That is unConstitutional. You can say you would never abort or you could never feel gay but you cannot lay that on any other person, who have their rights too. That is Basic USA. Religion is a personal thing. Not all people in power who have religion are so aligned that they think all others have to be their way, but some are. Religious law and National law must remain separate. Opening that door, which some Christians do want to do,set us up so in 50 years we could easily become Sharia because they are determined & relentless & going into Government and patiently planning for just this thing. How can people not see??!!
PRCS says
“How can people not see??!!”
Even today, President Trump regurgitated that nonsensical term ‘radical Islamic terrorism’.
So long as our friends and neighbors hear that–from the top–many will continue to believe there’s a ‘moderate’ Islam.
P.S.
Yes, “some Christians do want to” also. One primary difference: to a much greater degree than Christians, Muslims are far more likely to kill ‘unbelievers’ to achieve that.
mgoldberg says
“Smearing someone else’s religious beliefs is different from calling out human rights abuses in the defense of free societies and human rights.”
Indeed… this is the fulcrum of the problem; actual drilling down and detailing these issues is disallowed under Sharia law. For a muslim to proclaim that they would be forced to adhere to the priniciples of the Constitution of the US, and abandon Sharia Law since it contravenes US law would be necessary.
juleonly says
Exactly, and a religious law interpretation by a Devout Catholic or any Christian opens the door wide for Islam. Some forms of Christianity don’t get it. One can command morals on Self & maybe family when they are young (unless they are born with the slip up of nature which happens often in this world) but not Other people in all cases. Without meaning to, some of these Old Testament ideas of any religion will open the gates of hell for us in the near future. Religious Law must be separate from Government. It must. If she does it, it only sets things up for Sharia as a sure thing.
John says
……………because Muslim beliefs and the US Constitution are like oil and vinegar.
Terry Gain says
That’s one way of putting it, but vinegar is useful. I think poop and soap is more apt.
Dave from San Antonio says
The United States was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs and values. Islam is founded on hate, murder and pedophilia. Of course she would be questioned…on how islamic beliefs, ideology and principles would be compatible with our Constitution…because, simply put, islam is not compatible.
juleonly says
But even Christian morals cannot be made Law based on Religious Law, (especially if its parts of the Old Testament.) It is imperative that Church and State remain Separate!
Walter Sieruk says
Concerning human rights abuses because of Islam is the aspect of this ,above, article brought up was female genital mutilation.
This cruel, brutal and vicious Islamic tradition of female butchery which some Muslims so inappropriately call “female circumcision’ has spread like an infectious disease , or a plague , even to Western nations This heinous Islamic custom of misogyny has been exposed in the book by Brigitte Gabriel which is entitled THEY MUST BE STOPPED. For on page 178 it reveals to the reader that “One of the most devastating practices to young girls of the Islamic world is female genital mutilation. Young girls have their clitoris removed without anesthesia…”
gravenimage says
Yes–horrible.
juleonly says
Yes, this is the problem of putting Religion of any kind in the Law or interpretation of. Religion is personal & not to be ordered of others. This is the BIG mistake Some kinds of Christians are making and opening the door for Islam allowed. Because Islam is Government. Catholics are great people but Catholic Law is not to be Law in USA. Some Catholics & other kinds of Christianity are insisting others follow what they believe. This lady seems like someone I would so like for a friend because of her upbringing is ingrained but NOT A LAW MAKER/ INTERPRETER because she cannot separate. Not all Catholics are so ingrained. What do you think it would be like to have the Pope as a Judge? Keep Church and State separate. Some Christians are opening the door of hell for our future because Islam WILL demand the same positions. They already ARE as you point out.
Steve says
And of course the dhimmi stooge writing the article has no idea that in Islam there is no separation of mosque and state, in fact, they are one in the same.
PRCS says
Democracy and theocracy. Two forms of governance, each of which is antithetical to and incompatible with the other.
We are governed as a representative democracy.
Islam, a theocracy, has no place in our governance.
gravenimage says
Steve, writer Wajahat Ali is a Muslim, not a dhimmi. This is Taqiyya, not ignorance.
And this isn’t the first time he has flogged his pro-Islam bs.
Here are another couple of his articles for the NYT:
“The Muslims Are Coming”
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/30/opinion/election-muslim-candidates-politics.html
There he says: “it’s the hate directed toward Islam that has motivated so many to enter the political arena”–of course! It’s not as though a desire for Muslim power has anything do with it…
“What a Muslim Could Teach Trump Supporters About Jesus”
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/22/opinion/muslim-christian-trump-supporters.html
“In Catholic school, I learned about compassion. Some Christians must have missed that part”…
Note that he does not say that Muslims consider the main of Jesus (“prophet Isa”) to be murdering Christians in the last days. No mention of how “compassionate” that is…
There are others.
Walter Sieruk says
One of the many evil fruits of Islam that this main essay makes mentions of is the following. “Child marriage, justified by the example of Muhammad’s marriage to Aisha. This is not only loathsome pedophilia, but abusive of children.”
As as earlier jihadwatch.org article explains it well where it reads Islamic tradition records that Muhammad consummated his marriage with (i.e., raped) Aisha when she was nine, and the resultant fact that child marriage is accepted in wide swaths of the Islamic world. Child marriage has abundant attestation in Islamic tradition and law.”.
Male Muslim marriage of an adult man to a young girl who is really only a child of common in the world of Islam. One of the “reasons” for this female child abuse in Islam is because of the corrupt and perverse wickedness in the hearts of men. This is seen and described in the Bible with reads “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked; who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9. [N.K.J.V.]
Furthermore, another “reason” girl/child marriages occur with middle aged and even old men is because the founder and prophet of Islam Muhammad married a child. Muslims throughout history as well as in current times actually view Muhammad as a “perfect man” and a “great example for them to follow.”
This well might prove the old saying to be true .The saying is that “Evil is always looking for an excuse.”
It’s also wise to remember prophet Muhammad did likewise engaged in brutal, ruthless murderous warfare. As do Muslims today such as the jihadist Muslim of ISIS, al Qaeda, Hezbollah Hamas and so forth. Many that old saying, just sited above, also explains the excuse for Muslim terrorism in the world today.
Jesus Himself Taught “By their fruits you will know them.” Matthew 7:20. Which might explain the vile child “marriage” of Muhammad and his violent and deadly behavior .Likewise also explains the twenty- first century Muslims who in child marriages and blood and murderous violence of Islam .As they see the prophet Muhammad d as their example of who to follow.
With all this about the fruits of Islam along with fruits history reveals about the life of the prophet of Islam, Muhammad .It thus further appropriate to make known that it might be in keeping with teaching of Jesus that Muhammad could well have been an actual prophet . Nevertheless the very most important thing to understand is the Muhammad was not a prophet send by God . Instead Muhammad was a lying deceptive false prophet send by Satan to start a false religion to lead many people astray.
For Jesus taught “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” Matthew 7:15.
To add to all of this above, the obvious might still might need to be posted, which is that the Islamic practice of an adult male Muslim having a marriage with a little girl who is only a child is clearly seen by most Westerners as a blatant action of child abuse of the vilest sort.
Nevertheless this heinous Islam tradition is accepted as “normal “in most of the Islamic world. Therefore, this may serve as an example of how the influence of Islam is able to warp the cogitation of the human mind to the extent that a person who is a Muslim might not be able to understand the obvious difference between right and wrong.
Such an awful thing as not having the discerning mental power to seethe clear difference is described in the Bible. For in Isaiah 5:20. “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil…”
RANDALL ANDERSON says
The first question I would ask a Muslim candidate would be: Do you consider yourself a ‘devout Muslim’? He would surely say ‘yes’. Then I would ask him: Then do you believe it is your duty, as a ‘good Muslim’, to ‘fight the Jihad until the World bows down to Allah’, as the Quran commands? Do you believe Jews are descendants of monkeys and pigs? Do you believe it is acceptable to take 6 yr old girls as wife, even though you wait til she was 9 to take her virginity? Do you believe the Sun revolves around the Earth and sets in a pool of mud, on the other side of the FLAT EARTH? Many more similar questions I would ask, to the SCREAMS OF PROTEST FROM THE DEMO-RATS in the Senate. No Muslim is qualified as a Judge at any level. Why: because Islam recognizes the sovereignty of NO NATION…there is NO SEPARATION OF CHURCH/MOSQUE AND STATE and SHARIA law is antithetical to the CONSTITUTION and BILL OF RIGHTS, and to World Standards of Human Rights.
PRCS says
Islam, so antithetical to the International Declaration of Human Rights that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation created the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam—which limits human rights to those permitted by Islamic law.
Terry Gain says
Randall Anderson
Exactly so.

Mark Spahn (West Seneca, NY) says
According to the New York Times (which has fired or reassigned most of its copy editors), Ben Carson refers to “the central tenant of Islam”. Who is this tenant, and in what apartment building does he reside?
gravenimage says
Yes–it is troubling how illiterate and typo-strewn so many newspapers are today.
Kepha says
I think you mean “tenet”. A tenet is something to which you hold; a tenant is someone who rents building space from you.

Kepha, Mark Spahn is citing the grammatical error made by Ben Carson–he is *not* making this error himself.

The NEW YORK TIMES is a LEFTIST journal who would Never use the METHOD of COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS because it would destroy their ideology. Muslim civilization has shown itself Incapable of Going Above a Certain Level. But in the case of European civilization: yes.
THE CASE OF ABBE GREGOIRE (politician and Catholic priest )
1.One of the major ( and good ) figures of the FRENCH REVOLUTION, he is famous in France for being the one Most Responsible for the ABOLITION of SLAVERY in French territories in 1794.
Later NAPOLEON restored slavery,in 1802.
2.He was also for Granting Full Rights to the JEWS in France.
3.And for the ABOLITION of the ARISTOCRATIC and CLERICAL PRIVILEGES there
4.And for UNIVERSAL SUFFRAGE ( the right to vote by all,WOMEN and MEN ).
French philosopher CONDORCET and the later horrible, bloodthirsty ROBESPIERRE ( responsible for the death of maybe as many as 40,000 innocent people during the period called THE TERROR) were also in favor.
There was a vote in the French Assembly and universal suffrage LOST.
HIS REMAINS ARE IN THE PANTHEON OF PARIS
It is a sort of SECULAR TEMPLE which has the remains of famous French personages, like:
Beside the Abbé Gregoire there is:
1.MARIE CURIE
2.EMILE ZOLA
3.VOLATIRE
4.ROUSSEAU
5.VICTOR HUGO
6.ALEXANDRE DUMAS
7.BRAILLE (inventor of an alphabet for the BLIND),etc
Vladimir says
Abbe Henri Gregoire is one of my favorite heroes from history, Bp. Gregoire being a ”Jansenist” (a true follower of St. Augustine on Grace, really) like Blaise Pascal who was persecuted as all Jansenists were by the Roman Catholic Church.

If Amy Coney Barrett was a Muslim I would want her to be asked the following questions, among others.
1. Would she object to Jesse having another wife, or two or three?
2. How does she feel about the fact that her “god” describes women in his “holy book” as inferior to men.
3. What does she make of Mohammed’s claim that the majority of the inhabitants of hell are female?
4. Would she permit any of her daughters to marry at age 6, or 9, or 14?
5. What would she do if a man told her how to dress?
6. What does she think of the following statements in the Koran?
4:11 A male shall inherit twice as much as a female.
4:12 And you shall inherit the half of your wives’ estate if they die childless….
Your wives shall inherit one-quarter of your estate if you die childless.
4:24 You are forbidden also to marry two sisters at one and the same time: …. Also married women, except those whom you own as slaves.
4:34 Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them, and forsake them in beds apart, and beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further action against them. Surely God is high, supreme.
7. What do you think of the fact that all of these instructions, allegedly from God, are addressed to men only?
There are of course hundreds of other questions I would like to see asked of every Muslim politician or judicial nominee.
James Lincoln says
Definitely off to a good start, Terry…

Qur’an 9:29 states:
