Turkish foreign minister: EU shouldn’t ‘dare’ to impose sanctions over Turkey’s aggression toward Greece and Cyprus

Oct 6, 2020 9:00 am By Robert Spencer 23 Comments

Çavuşoğlu speaks to the European Union the way an irritated master speaks to a lazy servant. It is clear who he thinks is the boss in their relationship. Also note this: “Thanks to our efforts, irregular migratory flows to Europe have been reduced by 92 percent.” Think about that in light of Erdogan’s repeated threats to flood Europe with migrants if the EU doesn’t give him what he wants, and in light of this as well: “the EU promised the allocation of €3 billion in aid to Turkey to help migrants.” Get the picture? The EU pays off the Turks to reduce migrant flows. It’s a cash cow for Erdogan.

“The EU should not ‘dare to’ sanction Turkey, says Turkish foreign minister,” Ahval News, October 3, 2020 (thanks to Henry):

The European Union should not  “dare to’’ impose sanctions on Turkey over tensions with Greece and Cyprus on hydrocarbon resources in the eastern Mediterranean,  Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu told Italian newspaper La Stampa.

Sanctions from the bloc “would have the opposite effect and would only strengthen our determination to protect our rights and those of the Turkish Cypriots,” Yeni Şafak newspaper cited Çavuşoğlu as telling the newspaper on the sidelines of an EU summit in Brussels.

On Friday, the EU’s political leaders vowed to decide on sanctions against Turkey by the end of the year should it persist with what it called provocations in the eastern Mediterranean, where Ankara is locked in a dispute with Athens and Nicosia over territorial waters.

Turkey has sent survey ships escorted by its navy into contested waters near Greek islands and Cyprus to explore for hydrocarbons, sparking military tensions with neighbouring Greece and reprimands from the EU and the United States.

The Turkish government maintains its actions are legal, saying the ships have not strayed from its continental shelf. But the EU has expressed full support for member states Greece and Cyprus in the dispute with Turkey over the contested waters….

“Thanks to our efforts, irregular migratory flows to Europe have been reduced by 92 percent,’’ Çavuşoğlu said, noting that the bloc had failed to keep its commitments to Ankara.

Turkey and EU in 2016 agreed on a deal that aimed to cut the influx of Syrian refugees arriving in Greece. According to the deal, the EU promised the allocation of €3 billion in aid to Turkey to help migrants. The deal also included the end of visa restrictions applied to Turkish citizens when travelling to Europe as of June 2016, but the visa restrictions still remain.

Erdogan has done nothing to make Turkey more respected or trusted. His regime is detrimental to the economy of his country.

Erdogan is a dangerous individual, one who is moving his country closer to a disastrous war that will have serious consequences for the Nation of Turkey and the Turkish people.

If you think Erdogan is the sole problem in Turkey, you’re sorely mistaken. He is just an extension of the majority of Turkish people and their aspirations to restore the Ottoman Empire and enslave all non-muslims and non-Turks. He would not be elected to power if that wasn’t the case.

Turks are the most genocidal people to ever exist in the history of the entire human civilization, and Turkey as today’s solemn state is the most evil and most supremacist entity on the face of the Earth. It’s existence is a spit in the face of HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS non-Turks dead, enslaved and brutalized throughout the centuries.

Erdogan wasn’t responsible for any of that. He is merely a product of his bloodthirsty ancestors, as are all his many supporters.

You are very correct and this is why I refuse to make a distinction between nazi Turkey and the so-called “turkish people”. After all it wasn’t Erdogan or the turkish politicians that were raping thousands of girls ages 9 to 90 during the Cyprus “peace operation” back in 1974, it was the turkish army i.e “the turkish people” in uniform. There’s a reason why this type of nazi regime can flourish in turkey. All turkish political parties ideologically subscribe to slightly different flavors of erdoganism and islamo-turkish supremacy, only exception to this is the (kurdish) HDP whose leaders are being persecuted (all HDP mayors in southeastern Turkey have arbitrarily been deposed by Erdogan and replaced by AKP loyalists with no protest from any other party… or the EU which otherwise likes to pretend to care about democracy in Eastern Europe)

Turkey should be Boycotted and sanctioned not just for aggression against Greece and Cyprus but also for sponsoring Azerbaijan to ethnicly Cleanse Armenians from there ancient homeland also what is he in about Turkish Cypriots right? Turkish Cypriots work in the South they get medical treatment in the South but it’s not enough for them the reality is there won’t be such a thing as a Turkish Cypriot soon as the illegal settlers from Turkey will outnumber the Turkish Cypriots they will eventually regret inviting Turkey to occupy Cyprus they are traitors in my opinion

“turkish cypriots” imo won’t be satisfied unless they’re able to dominate and rule over the christian greek majority like they used to do in the good ole days of the ottoman empire… at some point Cyprus ought to question its own stupidity for insisting in “negotiating” with the tuskish invader and his “turkish cypriot” helpers all this time because the only negotiated “solution” the turks would ever accept is a return to the ancien regime of supremacist muslim minority rule. Compared to that even a “two state solution” is preferable… that way at least you could stop paying for the healthcare of turkish “cypriot” traitors and end the cruel joke of having turkish and english as co-official languages… not that the Turks will ever stop trying to conquer or dominate the rest of Cyprus…

Impose them and then dare” turnkey to complain about them. If turkey whines, complains and/or threatens, impose harsher ones.

Remember the old days when a judge would fine someone for contempt of court, or put them in jail for x number of days and when the person whined about it, the judge ordered a longer sentence and a larger fine.
Rules are made for a reason. Laws are written for reasons and when laws are broken, the lawbreaker should face punishment. It’s the only way to stop one from continuing in that kind of illegal behavior.
Little kids that break the rules and get candy and treats when they throw fits of temper, become little brats and , grow up to be spoiled bullies. turkey is a moslim bully which has been allowed to keep breaking the rules, and gets pampered with bribes.

The EU hardly even existed back then, Greece was the one to “capitulate” instead of going to war (which I would argue they could have won) while the US, UK and Soviet Union all tacitly approved or “tolerated” the invasion for different reasons each. Also at the time many Muslim countries backed Turkey “diplomatically” from Pakistan to Gadaffi to “secular” Iran and even Israel (which at the time had very good relations with Turkey)… So I’d say there’s many culprits you could blame but not the EU (not “back then” at least)

I wish I was in a position (as EU) to tell them that if they allow any more migrants or cause any more problems, all Turks living in Europe will be snet back, even those who have lived there for 20 years or more

Turkey cannot survive without the foreign exchange they earn from their people in Europe.
