The deepest concern of the UN should be the threats from some Muslims because of the supposedly offensive cartoons. The UN long ago abandoned interest in the rights of free societies. Instead, it has increasingly collaborated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in promoting Islamic interests, including the “Islamophobia” canard.
Over a decade ago, after Muhammad cartoons were first published in Denmark’s Jyllands Posten, violence erupted across the Islamic world; in a joint statement, UN head Kofi Annan “along with the head of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the European Union’s senior representative for foreign and security policy,” stated:
We fully uphold the right of free speech. But we understand the deep hurt and widespread indignation felt in the Muslim World. We believe freedom of the press entails responsibility and discretion, and should respect the beliefs and tenets of all religions.
In 2006, there was UN and OIC disapproval of “offensive” free speech, but the drafters of the statement also felt the need to affirm their respect for the freedom of speech. So what has changed since 2006, such that now the UN and OIC to so blatantly disrespect the freedom of speech, even to the point of blaming the victim for acts of violence by jihadis in response to the exercise of the freedom of expression? The answer is that there was never any actual respect for the freedom of speech in the OIC, but it was not as emboldened as it is now, thanks to the Western Left. The OIC has watched attentively as Western countries — including France, Sweden, Germany and the UK — allowed in multitudes of Muslim migrants without vetting them, and permitted (even collaborated with) Islamic supremacist lobby groups to use “Islamophobia” ploys to destroy the freedom of speech. Western countries have been duped. They accepted the claim that it was “racist” and “Islamophobic” to criticize Islam and to offend Muslims. The stealth jihad succeeded in its goal, and with the passage of time, it was inevitable that Western countries would experience increasing aggression and violence.
Now:the U.N. High Representative is “voicing ‘deep concern’ about escalating tensions over the blasphemous sketches of Prophet Muhammad.” He has not expressed any concern about the erosion of the freedom of speech.
It is time that Western countries stop funding the UN and withdraw from it. It is no longer a body of united nations. It is instead a body that sides with Sharia-supporting countries, and installs the worst violators of human rights into its organs that are supposed to be dedicated to the defense of human rights.
“Top UN official voices ‘deep concern’ about tensions over insulting cartoons,” Daily Pakistan, October 29, 2020:
UNITED NATIONS – Voicing “deep concern” about escalating tensions over the blasphemous sketches of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the top official for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) has called for mutual respect of all religions and beliefs and for fostering a culture of fraternity and peace.
In a statement, the High Representative for the Alliance, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, said that insulting religions and sacred religious symbols provokes hatred and violent extremism, leading to the polarization and fragmentation of society.
He said he is following with deep concern the growing tensions and instances of intolerance triggered by French weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo’s publication of the satirical caricatures.
“The inflammatory caricatures have also provoked acts of violence against innocent civilians, who were attacked for their sheer religion, belief or ethnicity,” Moratinos noted.
Freedom of expression should be exercised in a way that fully respects the religious beliefs and tenets of all religions, he said.
“Acts of violence cannot and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group.”…
In the statement, the High Representative re-affirmed that acts of violence cannot and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group.
“At the same time,” he said, “violence can and should never be justifiable or acceptable response to acts of intolerance on the basis of religion or belief.”
The High-Representative strongly urged interfaith and intercultural dialogue and the debate of ideas at the local, national and international levels which could be a powerful tool against religious intolerance, prejudices and stereotyping.

The U.N. High Representative doesn’t hold Muslims responsible for acts of terrorism, just those who show cartoons.
The reason for showing Mohammed cartoons and for criticism of Mohammed is not to upset Muslims, but to USE and DEMONSTRATE our freedom to criticize religion … without that freedom, there is no freedom of speech. We would all live in THEOCRACIES with blasphemy laws if we could not express our freedom from someone else’s dogmas.
The Danish editor who published the cartoons, Flemming Rose, explained that if Muslims insist “that I, as a non-Muslim, should submit to their taboos … they’re asking for my submission.”
U.S. law values and permits the right to blaspheme.
-Justice Clark in 1952 wrote: “[I]t is enough to point out that the state has no legitimate interest in protecting any or all religions from views distasteful to them. … It is not the business of government in our nation to suppress real or imagined attacks upon a particular religious doctrine.”
-Justice Frankfurter noted that beliefs “ … dear to one may seem the rankest ‘sacrilege’ to another,” and added concerning “sacrilegious” speech: “[H]istory does not encourage reliance on the wisdom and moderation of the censor.”

Is this news? I mean, it’s to be expected, and truly justified, just as the rage, riots and slaughter done by Christians when, you know, against the “artist” who did the upside down crucifix in a jar of urine, right?
Oh, wait…

The Muslims go and desecrate Christian Churches all the time. They murder Christians in Africa everyday they be head non Muslims all the time. These are acts that have nothing to do with showing pictures about Muhammad, they do theses acts for just talking about him.
So when did the riots and slaughter happen. This is an every day occurrence with them.

Even when Charlie-Hebdo did a front-page cartoon of the Triune Christian God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) having a menage-a-trois orgy, French Catholics and other Christians did not commit terrorist acts or murders against the Charlie-Hebdo staff, though I understand that the French Catholic Church attempted to sue C-H on several occasions.
I’m sure that many Mormons are offended by the comedy musical “The Book of Mormon” (by Trey Parker and Matt Stone of “South Park” and “Team America” fame), but very few (if any) Mormons would want to kill Parker or Stone, or anyone else involved in that play.

This is not a statement of tolerance, it is advocacy of Islamic supremacism. A religion that prescribes the death penalty for blasphemy and apostacy. Where is the room for tolerance, compromise and diversity in that? No, this is an all or nothing issue. What the UN is saying is that France either has to accept Sharia limitations or accept that the lives of its citizens can be taken in the name of Islam. I don’t see how any western liberal democracy can adapt to that ultimatum. It is an existential threat.

“Acts of violence cannot and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group.”…….OK, so that rather puts Mohammed & friends seriously on spot from Day 1 of islam’s existence for a start.
“At the same time, violence can and should never be justifiable or acceptable response to acts of intolerance on the basis of religion or belief”……….. Which would rather point the finger at the goings on anywhere in the muslim world past, and present, if we include any intolerance on the basis of ‘unbelief’.
In any case, these cartoons are no more than legitimate satirical criticism rather than ‘intolerance’; but if it’s just satirical cartoons under the spotlight today, what’s going to count as ‘intolerance’ tomorrow?
It seems like the ‘UN Alliance of Civilizations’ may have just hoisted itself by its own petard.

When theocracies police freedom of expression by MURDER and ASSASSINATION it is time to have MORE CRITICISM of that religion, rather than less.
Freedom of speech in the West was won primarily for the purpose of questioning and criticizing religious authority. That is what Voltaire thought.
Regarding freedom to blaspheme: ” … when offenses are policed by murder, that’s when we need more of them, not less, because the murderers cannot be allowed for a single moment to think that their strategy can succeed.” – Ross Douthat, NYT, January 7, 2015
“The right to blaspheme religion is one of the most elemental exercises of political liberalism. One cannot defend the right without defending the practice.”
– Jonathan Chait, Daily Intelligencer, January 7, 2015
Without the freedom to criticize supremacism and the religions that promote it, ALL OTHER FREEDOMS will be dealt with as religious matters subject to religious law. Those freedoms will be lost. This is the state of affairs in Muslim countries.
To criticize religion, and even to ridicule it, is not just a freedom, then, but a profound obligation.

The UN High Commissioner said, “We fully uphold the right of free speech. But we understand the deep hurt and widespread indignation felt in the Muslim World. We believe freedom of the press entails responsibility and discretion, and should respect the beliefs and tenets of all religions.” (so … he doesn’t ‘fully’ uphold’ free speech, then)
I personally do NOT give ‘respect’ to a religion that demands HUMAN SACRIFICE as part of its official LAW CODE.
Sharia permits any person to kill those who verbally oppose Islam, since they are verbally at war with Islam:
“There is no indemnity obligatory for killing a non-Muslim (harbi) at war with Muslims.” -Reliance of the Traveller, o4.17, p.593
“We have already discussed killing the person who, with intent, curses the Prophet, belittles him or slights him in any way. The judgement in this case is clear.” (i.e. death) – Qadhi Iyaadh in ash-Shifa, Volume No.2, Page No. 27

Man lynched in Bangladesh for alleged Quran desecration: Police
Man beaten to death and his body torched in northern Bangladesh after villagers accuse him of desecrating holy books kept in a mosque.
Hundreds of people in a Bangladeshi town have beaten and lynched a man who had allegedly desecrated the Muslim holy book, police said.
The crowd on Thursday seized two men who had been in official custody after they were accused of stepping on a Quran in the main mosque of Burimari in Lalmonirhat district, more than 300 kilometres (186 miles) northwest of the capital, Dhaka.
“They beat one man to death and then burnt the body,” district police chief Abida Sultana told the AFP news agency.
Sultana said the two men told the imam at the mosque that hardline fighters might have stored illegal arms inside the building, the DPA news agency reported.
The two men then tried to search for the weapons on a shelf where the Quran and Hadith (sayings of Prophet Muhammad) were kept, in a way the imam found disrespectful to the holy books.
An altercation followed and the locals initially confined the two men to a room.
Several hundred people then rushed to the scene in the night and took away one of the men to a nearby area where they beat him and set his body on fire, said the officer.
Police recovered the charred body of the man, local government official Abu Newaz Nishat said.
The footage of the attack went viral on social media shortly after the incident.
The 35-year-old victim was reportedly struggling with psychological problems after he recently lost his job as a librarian at a college in neighbouring Rangpur district, Nishat said.
Police did not find any weapons at the mosque and the second man was taken into protective custody by the police.

“escalating tensions.” moslims have been “escalating” violence for a multitude of years now….after a forced lull with intermittent attacks…and people are tired of the “bloodshed” that has already been happening; tired of the continued lies; tired of the demands made by moslims in every country to be elevated above all other citizens; tired, tired, tired of islam and the attempts to take=over and make-over the entire earth for the fake ‘prophet’ and his false god.
Cartoons are drawn about living people…politicians in high office, in low office, “stars” in Hollywood, preachers and teachers; and everyone laughs or ignores. Cartoons are drawn about the fake prophet…the slimy, dirty, lying son of satan who raped children and bragged about it, murdered people and bragged about it, stole and lied and bragged about it…and moslims use the cartoons as an ***excuse*** to murder others..
moslims would be murdering, raping, thieving, lying, boasting, demanding, whining and bragging…if there had never been a cartoon drawn of their fake prophet. It’s just an excuse to behave as they want to and then cry foul when they are condemned for their terrorism.
The whole of islam is disgusting and demonic and those who defend the actions by moslims are going to be judged along with the rapists, liars and murderers.
Kesselman says
If still in doubt where Islam leads to, here’s a small sampling of directives from the one and only Quran, which Muslims believe was verbally revealed by Allah to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel, gradually for approximately 23 years, beginning in AD 609, when Muhammad was 40, and concluding in 632, the year of his death:
“Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them.” 2:191
“Muslims must not take the infidels as friends.” 3:28
“Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable.” 3:85.

In recent times it’s become a sport to blame countries and governments for failure to integrate Migrants specifically moslems. Everyone else manages.
How is this possible. Countries don’t intergrate you, you intergrate you. If first generation chose thirty or more years ago to go to eg. France and were not inspired by the beautiful and opportunities to progress then they had a choice within that time as does everyone else, pack the Hommous and go.
In Germany the same there were plenty of guest workers and support structures, so one can assume it’s all about a different kettle of fish!
