There have been reports that AP deleted its tweet of this article, but the article itself is still available. AP here reflects the common Western assumption that whenever Muslims behave violently, it is the fault of non-Muslims. In an odd manifestation of unconscious ethnocentrism and paternalism, “journalists” such as Angela Charlton assume that Muslims are passive beings who can do nothing but react to what non-Muslims do. The possibility that they might have reasons of their own to do what they do, reasons that have nothing to do with what non-Muslims are doing.
Those who have more respect for Muslims as human beings understand that a key reason for the recent jihad violence in France is not memories of French colonialism, but the fact that Islam mandates death for non-Muslim subjects of the Islamic state who mention “something impermissible about Allah, the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), or Islam” (‘Umdat al-Salik, o11.10), and such laws are based upon passages in the Hadith and Sira in which Muhammad orders the murders of people who have insulted him.
These include Abu Afak, who was over one hundred years old, and the poetess Asma bint Marwan. Abu Afak was killed in his sleep, in response to Muhammad’s question, “Who will avenge me on this scoundrel?” Similarly, Muhammad on another occasion cried out, “Will no one rid me of this daughter of Marwan?” One of his followers, Umayr ibn Adi, went to her house that night, where he found her sleeping next to her children. The youngest, a nursing babe, was in her arms. But that didn’t stop Umayr from murdering her and the baby as well. Muhammad commended him: “You have done a great service to Allah and His Messenger, Umayr!” (Ibn Ishaq, 674-676)
Then there was Ka’b bin Al-Ashraf. Muhammad asked: “Who is willing to kill Ka’b bin Al-Ashraf who has hurt Allah and His Apostle?” One of the Muslims, Muhammad bin Maslama answered, “O Allah’s Apostle! Would you like that I kill him?” When Muhammad said that he would, Muhammad bin Maslama said, “Then allow me to say a (false) thing (i.e. to deceive Kab).” Muhammad responded: “You may say it.” Muhammad bin Maslama duly lied to Ka’b, luring him into his trap, and murdered him. (Sahih Bukhari, volume 5, book 59, number 369)
Likewise the popular fatwa website Islam QA once called for death for blasphemers, but has now taken that page down. On it, it used both Qur’an and Hadith to make its argument. “The scholars are unanimously agreed,” the site explained, “that a Muslim who insults the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) becomes a kaafir [unbeliever] and an apostate who is to be executed. This consensus was narrated by more than one of the scholars, such as Imaam Ishaaq ibn Raahawayh, Ibn al-Mundhir, al-Qaadi ‘Iyaad, al-Khattaabi and others.”
“AP Explains: Why France sparks such anger in Muslim world,” by Angela Charlton, Associated Press, October 31, 2020:
PARIS (AP) — Many countries, especially in the democratic West, champion freedom of expression and allow publications that lampoon Islam’s prophet. So why is France singled out for protests and calls for boycotts across the Muslim world, and so often the target of deadly violence from the extremist margins?
Its brutal colonial past, staunch secular policies and tough-talking president who is seen as insensitive toward the Muslim faith all play a role….
Much of the current anger stems from the recent republication by French satirical newspaper weekly Charlie Hebdo of caricatures depicting the Prophet Muhammad. The cartoon images of Islam’s founder deeply offended many Muslims, who see them as sacrilegious. But the cartoons were originally published in Denmark in 2005, and similar images have been published in other countries that hold freedom of expression dear.
While French officials often say their country is targeted because of its reputation as the cradle of human rights and a rampart of global democracy, what distinguishes France most is its unusual attachment to secularism….
As the number of Muslim in France grew, the state imposed secular rules on their practices. A 2004 banning Muslim headscarves and other ostentatious religious symbols in schools remains divisive, if not shocking to many outside France. A 2011 law banning face veils made Muslims feel stigmatized anew….
Kesselman says
The Islamists have a cause of their own. One has only to consult their infamous holy book to be aware of their bad intends. Here are a few goodies:
“The Jews and Christians are perverts, fight them.” 9:30
“Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood.” 9:123
“Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water, melt their skin, and bellies.” 22:19
“Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them.” 47:4
Brando says
I know French culture and it has a lot to be proud of,despite a grim colonial past(but far less grim than that of the MUSLIMS).
THE MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE
Besides helping the 13 colonies become independent by convincing the French king to send soldiers and a navy to help the American revolution he:
1.Opposed SLAVERY
2.Wrote the DECLARATION OF THE RIGHTS OF MAN in 1789 ( Human Rights ).
I have said before,it was based on the GOLDEN RULE/LAW of RECIPROCITY that was the central ethic of Jesus of Nazareth.
The LEFT of today thinks HUMAN RIGHTS have Nothing to do with Jesus of Nazareth, but listen to this:
Lafayette was NOT a Deist,Agnostic, nor Theist,he was definitely a CATHOLIC:
SAMUEL LORENZO KNAPP(1783-1838) was an American writer who got to know Lafayette in 1824-1825 during Lafayette’s visit to the US and wrote:
“General Lafayette is of the Catholic religion, which has been long established, and is still generally professed, in France.
But he discovers nothing of that exclusive and intolerant spirit which has distinguished the church of Rome, more especially in ages past. He took an active part in favor of the proposition, in 1789, for securing the rights of conscience and the privileges of worship to the protestants of France, according to, their own particular belief.
It was not to be supposed that one of his enlightened views, and knowledge of human nature, would be a bigot in religion; or would attach undue importance to the external forms and the mere ceremonies of worship.
He is NOT, however, to be classed with
many learned men in Roman Catholic countries, in modern times,
who MERELY PROFESS the papal system because it is the religion of the state,
while they are REAL INFIDELS OR SKEPTICAL as to the ESSENTIAL DOCTRINES OF CHRISTIANITY”
Brando says
I forgot to add that the info appears in:
“Memoirs of General Lafayette: With an Account of His Present Visit to this Country and a Description of His Tour Through the United States”(1825) by SAMUEL LORENZO KNAPP
mgoldberg says
I would add that the Golden rule derives from the Torah- Leviticus and codified thru halachah(law) and famous commentaries- Rabbi Hillel, et al.
Brando says
Hello, that is true,by the way I had forgot to add that the citation is from the book by SAMUEL KNAPP of 1825 called:”Memoirs of General Lafayette: With an Account of His Visit to America”
1.The GOLDEN RULE is in LEV 19:8 ( love your neighbor like yourself ) and LEV 19:34 (love the foreigner like yourself ).
2.HILLEL: the Jewish teacher who lived a generation before Jesus,it is thought maybe he influenced him, said:
“What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow:
this is the WHOLE TORAAH; the REST is the EXPLANATION; go and learn.”
3.AKIVA,who lived 100 years after Jesus, the greatest Jewish teacher of his day, said:
” “Love your neighbor as yourself.” This is the MOST IMPORTANT RULE in the TORAH.”
Lavéritétriomphera says
@Brando,
Very true, the French secularism comes from (is derived from) Catholicism and from the philosophies of the enlightenment.
Only the dictators think they are above criticism.
From the Middle Ages we are a nation with a long tradition of skepticism and mockery, in my personal opinion these cartoons are not always in the best taste but that is another story.

‘I know French culture and it has a lot to be proud of,despite a grim colonial past(but far less grim than that of the MUSLIMS)…..’
Understatement of the year! I’m not sure exactly how ‘grim’ France’s colonialism was, but it has certainly left elements of a positive legacy that islamic colonialism has never even pretended to do, and whereas the French colonial period had a limited lifespan of a few centuries agt most, islamic colonialism started 1,400 years ago and still continues, destructive and brutal as ever.
Jay says
Mass immigration without any acclimation to the host country, NEVER works! This is a perfect example of the barbaric behavior of Muslims who incite violence at every opportunity. It doesn’t matter if countries like France, Germany, England, Greece, Spain, etc etc, give Muslim immigrants welfare, medical care, housing, etc etc., they NEVER acclimate. Countries like Poland and Hungary fight to keep their borders closed. These three horrible killings in France certainly prove the point – immigration without acclimation never works! Viva la France ??!
Ray Jarman says
Jay,
The French should have learned from their experience from the Algerians that migrated to Marseille when from the beginning after De Gaulle permitted large numbers of Muslims after the French left the North African crap hole. At the time the term, “no go zone” had not been used but it was one where the Muslims created their own enclaves ruled by Sharia. Tourist were permitted but woe to any Jew who ventured there. Now the Marseilles experience has been duplicated in the other once beautiful cities of France.

I blame mass Muslim immigration into France for its ridiculous terrorist problem, what else can you expect with a country where 10 million Muslims have successfully invaded?
Sylvia Drummond says
If mohamedans are so unhappy in Europe they should leave. They don’t belong here and never will.
PRCS says
As they’re on a mission, they’re not going to leave.
tim gallagher says
Nope. It’s Islam that causes all this endless violence and terrorism. AP should make its staff read the vile Koran. Then they might see that it is really a lot simpler and more straightforward. Islam, so full of hate for non-believers and so full of calls for jihad violence, is the cause,( and has been for 1400 years) and there’s no need to go and invent other causes, such as this bullshit that those poor, basically peaceful Muslims are being picked on.
PRCS says
Well said, Tim.
Wellington says
Seconded.
Penelope nr says
Yes right on.hms
tim gallagher says
Thanks for the comments, PRCS and Wellington. I think it is pretty straightforward. You read the Koran (though I must say i found it too boring to get far with it – what a turgid piece of crap) and you see obsessive hatred for the non-believers and plenty of calls for violence. You look at islam from the word go and you see noting but Muslims slaughtering and bullying people. This garbage from AP just seems to be trying to muddy the waters and make things more complicated than they really are. And the worst thing is that such bullshit lets Muslims off the hook and gives them an excuse for all the evil murdering they do and have always done.
Rufolino says
That horrible book should be banned as hate-speech.
“Wherever that book exists, there will be blood.” .(William Glsdstone.)
tim gallagher says
That’s and excellent and very accurate quote from William Gladstone. I agree that the Koran is nothing but hate from beginning to end. I think of it as being like Hitler’s “Mein Kampf”, both books being nothing but obsessive hatred.
gravenimage says
Spot on, Tim.
tim gallagher says
Maybe I oversimplify things, gravenimage, but it seems very straightforward to me. Islam has never been anything but a blood thirsty, vicious ideology. There’s no need to try to find excuses for these blood thirsty Muslims. I get so sick of thee idiots who try to find reasons to excuse Muslims for all their murderous crap.
gravenimage says
Agreed, Tim.

A: “That insults my beliefs. Now I must attack you even more.”
C: “Say, B, seems allowing A to move into your home wasn’t such a hot idea. Maybe you should require A to leave?”
B: “And break up a beautiful relationship? Hell no!”
C: “???”

I live in France.Integrated to society Muslims see in Macron knee fall the assumption, that Muslims are genetically programmed to behead people as an instinctive fight it flight reaction.Wich is quite insulting. The very multicultural ones, which address me with the title Shaitan (I’m jewish) argue that France insulting Mohammed is much worse than China. So apparently for those screaming angry, a Service-Situation would be a better reaction than drawing a picture.Maybe this is because as soon as we do the china method (arresting and executing Muslims, without mentioning any theoligical disagreement), that would be adopting the method of argumentation the Islamic state does, and we had already adopted exactly that what we oppose.I prefer the Trump method, to be open verbally hostile towards a bully. From school I remember that bullies, that had be stopped, from thereon started to have as a result of more normal behavior better reactions of their comrades and a better life.Maybe financial and moral support for the motivations if a bully – short why he does bully), doesn’t help.

Islam is an ideology–it is not genetic.
Wellington says
OK. Among AP non-Muslim reporters, just reflect for a moment what their collective knowledge of Mo’s creed is.
I rest my case.

I suspected all along that Muslim atrocities are a result of French colonialism. Then I remembered it was Muslims who invaded Christian Egypt and mostly-Christian North Africa. I had forgotten that before France occupied North Africa in the 19th century it was ruled by the Barbary Coast pirates who enslaved/killed countless Christians until France, UK, and the U.S toppled them from power. The Barbary Coast pirates were in the employ of the Turkish sultan who was the head of Islam–the job Erdogan is vying for these days.

Yes–and France first entered Algeria to stop Muslims from pirating and enslaving shipping on the Mediterranean.

………..
Yeah, right. It’s not as though it has anyting to do with Islam’s direct calls for violence against unbelievers and 1400 year history of Jihd violence. sarc/off
Note that this also doesn’t explain why there is violence from Muslims against every other nation in the West.
Trouble says
Oh yeah, we need to be reminded of that darstardly French colonialism in Lebanon decades ago.
Lebanon originally a Christian country was known as the French Riviera ( in similarity) christian, jew, moslem lived side by side and prospered, it was a beautiful place, loads of tourism, and then……
The French left, and then consequently turned into a shithole after the civil war. The Christians amongst the first to seek REAL refugee status elsewhere!
The mess it’s in now is thanks to the Arab spring and ruling terrorist parties competing for power.
somehistory says
How can so many be so lamebrain? The people who claim this should listen to those who know islam best…such as Raymond Ibrahim, whose recent interview regarding the attacks in France, makes clear that the attacks would be happeninng no matter what “past” there was. moslims don’t attack because of some percieved “wrong” on the part of infidels. moslims attack because their book of filth commands them to attack.
No matter how kind, nice, helpful, patient, condescending, bend-over-backward a person is with a moslim, it will not be appreciated and the moslim will still attack that person. As they have all over….Germany has many examples of that: the burning down of the building they were given as a “refuge,’ the rape and murder of a young woman who was working to help them begin a life in their new “home.” and so many others, I can’t recall all of the details.
Those two girls that were murdered and beheaded on their camping trip had done nothing to “incite” the moslims to rape and murder and the moslims would have had no way to know beforehand from where the girls came…from what country with what “past” that involved other moslims.
Even if a country does have a “past” that used brutality against people…moslims included…moslims are not free of the charge of being brutal in their past….and still going strong in the brutality department today, November, 2020. If they were acting on what was done to moslims in the past, then the French people have the same “right” to act on what has been done by moslims just in the “past” few years…the murders, rapes, destruction of property including churches, cars, shops, etc.
It isn’t about the past. It’s about the book of islam that demands moslims carry out demonic commands.
These “reporters” are so very stupid…and they cause so much damage to the efforts to get the Truth out to people. How many ignorant…about islam…will believe this garbage and blame the French people for the murder of the young man?
This is just so sickening.

Mr Spencer, Ive noticed that each time you write the name Muhammad, that you put peace be upon him after this, like you are a muslim, rather than writing may piss be upon him. why do you do this I wonder.
Ecosse1314 says
Whilst your definition is not only infinitely accurate and truthful. I believe Mr Spencer writes “pbuh” when quoting directly from an article. If he does not do that he would be accused of not quoting accurately.
jirtu says
Re Muslims inserting “pbuh” after the name of the man who married his boss (a women much-older than him) to advance his career and then married a nine-year-old and then married his daughter-in-law because she was good-looking:…who advocated genocide and who originated a hateful cult and who was a racist.., and who misguided billions of people… why does Moe need “peace be upon him”? Is it because he was a sinful man? Who is being addressed when a Moe follower inserts the words? Is Allah is being asked to intercede and allow rest for the jumped up merchant? Why don’t Christ, Moses, and Abraham receive the wish? Do the child molester’s followers know of the man’s many sins and are wishing forgiveness for him?

Fred van de Bunt says
The article breathes the general opinion among pre-programmed intellectuals in Western Europe.
It is the fault of those conservative neo colonial establishments, that are not progressive enough.
It is based on zero knowledge of Islam teachings, which is not a determining variable at all in their equation to explain the phenomenon of societal separation and the growing frequency of outbursts of violence.
Giacomo Latta says
”Its brutal colonial past, staunch secular policies and tough-talking president who is seen as insensitive toward the Muslim faith all play a role”
If France has such a brutal colonial past then why do citizens of its brutal past insist in migrating to France? Either this brutal past has changed into a non-brutal present or these immigrants are only interested in disrupting France’s way of life. No other explanation is logical. Witness the use of ”us” and ”them” by the muslims preparing an article on Samuel Paty before he was decapitated.
