Here We Go: Swamp Rats Start Laying the Groundwork for Sending U.S. Troops Into Syria

Nov 18, 2020 10:00 pm By Robert Spencer 24 Comments

My latest in PJ Media:

If Donald Trump doesn’t take the Oath of Office on January 20, 2021, one principal but little-noted reason for this may be that he crossed one of the most powerful and least accountable forces in the nation: the military-industrial complex. As Trump said last September, “the top people in the Pentagon…want to do nothing but fight wars so that all of those wonderful companies that make the bombs and make the planes and make everything else stay happy. But we’re getting out of the endless wars, you know how we’re doing.” Now, however, that Joe Biden has been anointed “President-elect” by the establishment media, the propaganda is already starting to get us back into one of those endless wars, in Syria.

We learned just recently that we never really left Syria in the first place. As Victoria Taft noted at PJ Media Friday, President Trump’s former special envoy for Syria, Never-Trumper Jim Jeffrey, has boasted that he circumvented Trump’s orders to withdraw American troops from Syria by lying to the president. Jeffrey explained: “We were always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had there,” and “the actual number of troops in northeast Syria is ‘a lot more than’ the roughly two hundred troops Trump initially agreed to leave there in 2019.”

What the Masters of War have in mind, however, is a far greater commitment of American troops than even Jeffrey’s shell game allows for. After all, how else are they going to keep happy “all of those wonderful companies that make the bombs and make the planes”? There’s money to be made even in the devastated hellscape that is Syria after nearly a decade of civil war, and so our moral superiors are starting to beat the drums of war in Syria once again in order to ensure that President Biden, if such a nightmare comes true, commits enough American troops to keep that money flowing into the right pockets.

And so the Associated Press reminded us Sunday (in an article that was reprinted in the Huffington Post, which indicates an effort to make sure the far-Left will be on board) that “a half century after Hafez Assad launched a bloodless coup in Syria, his family still rules the country.” AP quoted English swamp creature Neil Quilliam of Chatham House’s Middle East and North Africa program: “There can be no doubt that 50 years of Assad family rule, which has been ruthless, cruel and self-defeating, has left the country what can only be described as broken, failed and almost forgotten.”

The obvious subtext here is that we must remember Assad’s oppression, and not just remember, but act. “As U.S. election results rolled in,” AP intoned, “showing Joe Biden the winner, memes by Syrian opposition trolls mocked how the Assads have now outlasted nine American presidents since Richard Nixon.”

Oh no! Mockery from trolls! AP is essentially saying, You’re not going to stand for that, are you, you racist, redneck yahoos? We have to go into Syria, and pronto, in a big way, to avenge America’s honor!

There is much more. Read the rest here.

Memo to every member of the Military Industrial Complex: “You’re thirsting for a project that will involve an endless flood of weaponry and pad your portfolios? Why not direct it all towards opposing China? You have 3 wealthy allies – Japan, India and Australia, who’d be more than happy to buy what they need to defend against a historically belligerent Beijing, as well as other potential clients – Taiwan, Vietnam, maybe even other neighbors of China. You won’t be able to make enough of them fast enough to send them. Take that project, and end your obsession w/ NATO and the Middle East”

Biden will achieve nothing by defeating Syria, just to avenge his evil heart, if he becomes President. (I hope to God he doesn’t) Leave them alone, they have known nothing but suffering for a decade. Infidel is right! by far the biggest threat to us and the world Is China. (Not forgetting radical Islam).

Islam is #2. It’s right up there, but the vector for Islamic threats is the Turkish led alliance – Turkey, Muslim Brotherhood affiliated groups, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Somalia, Yemen and Qatar. Most of the Arab states have largely cleaned up their act for 2 reasons:

        – The rich ones have run out of cash and are forced to, for the first time in history, contemplate introducing income taxes on their citizens. They’ve pretty much stopped financing foreign dawa and jihadist activities

        – The Arab countries see a big challenge to their leadership of Islam coming from a non-Arab coalition of countries like Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, et al. That’s a part of the reason they’re settling their differences w/ Israel and even being diplomatically supportive of Armenia

Yeah, the Muslim threat is still high in Europe, but that’s something that the EU can, but refuses to do anything about. But as far as the US goes, we need to destroy China’s attempts to become the world’s #1 superpower, since they’ve shown what they’d do w/ it. Also, China is the biggest backer of Islam outside its borders, even while it persecutes Muslims on a scale not seen since the third Reich. It’s a wonder that all those countries like Turkey and Pakistan, that have made combating ‘islamophobia’ their #1 mission, have not dared say a word against Beijing. Particularly Turkey, which revels in its celebration of Turkic history, but which has completely ceded Qashqar to the Chicoms

I’m glad we took out the Islamic State, but Syria itself has “quagmire” written all over it.

Their race is not so important, but what is important is the fact that under their regime, Syria has been the only Arab and Muslim country where Christians are relatively free, and not persecuted. While it’s a problem that they’ve been a stooge of Iran since the 80s and therefore a thorn on Israel’s side, they’ve also been a bulwark against jihad. We saw what happened when their regime was threatened: ISIS was the #1 opposition in Syria, not that FSA or any of those. That’s the reason Assad should be left alone, but every effort should be made to decouple Syria from Iran. The Israelis pretty much achieved that, and so now Syria is fine, and doesn’t need US troops

In the meantime, Turkey has been trying to horn in on Syria, which the Arabs have not been thrilled by. In this case, ethnicity trumps sect: the fact that the Turks are sunnis matters less to the Arabs than the fact that the Syrians, even if led by an Alawite regime, are Arabs. The Arabs don’t wanna see a resurgence of the Ottoman empire, which is why they’ve been supportive of even non-Muslim opposition to Turkey, be it the Syrians or the Armenians

If anything, after January 20th, the US needs to totally reevaluate our relations w/ Turkey, just like we did w/ China a few months ago

This has nothing to do with race. Assad has, certainly, been somewhat less murderous and oppressive to Christians and other Infidels, which is generally the best one can hope for in the Muslim world.

“We will ensure that our military has no peer.”
“Democrats know it’s time to bring nearly two decades of unceasing conflict to an end….”
“Democrats will deliver…bringing our troops home.”
“Democrats believe the United States military should be the best-trained, best-equipped, and most effective fighting force in the world.”
“We will invest in technology and forces that meet the threats of the future…”
    https://democrats.org/where-we-stand/party-platform/renewing-american-leadership/

So they are going to spend loads of money on the military complex, to keep these (military) bureaucrats happy. And maybe that is the pay-off to prevent Pentagon advisors and generals from “building democracies” far away in many nowhere lands, and ending useless wars in other nowhere lands?

I thought the main democratic talking point was how the US military is being OVERFUNDED thanks to those eeeeevil warmongering republicans, and that cutting its funds would be enough to provide free medicare for all? And now this lol. Such boldfaced hypocrisy is only possible for the Dems because they know their supporters (leftsits) are a bunch of braindead hive-minded non-individuals who would do and believe literally anything they tell them to.

The history of the Dems on foreign wars has been a combination of

      – Defund the military
      – However, expand the scope of their missions abroad

The record of this president has been to

      – Restore the military to previous levels, and modernize it, including Autonomous weapons and Space Force
      – Reduce the scope of foreign missions

The US has troops in 150 out of 190 countries, so there is a lot of countries that we have no business being in. We need to prioritize our presence. Good pick would be the Americas – from Canada to Argentina/Chile, as well as the Indo-Pacific rim to contain China

James, I just wish that the withdrawals that he’s ordering now – from Afghanistan, Somalia, Germany – that those had happened over the last 4 years. If his challenges are upheld and he prevails, I hope that he more aggressively pulls our troops out of everywhere but Latin America and the Indo-Pacific: that should still be enough to keep our military-industrial complex preoccupied

          Infidel,

Agree, more troop withdrawals are necessary.

And all NATO countries need to pay their fair share to the military alliance…

        • Infidel says

          Nov 19, 2020 at 2:29 pm

James, imho, we need to withdraw from NATO. Period! It’s been 30 years since they knew what their mission was, and today, they wanna combat climate change. In the meantime, one of its members – Turkey – is busy trying to expand its influence outside NATO and doing things like terrorizing Armenia, violating Greek and Cypriot maritime territory, actively involved in civil wars in Syria and Libya, and sponsoring ISIS outside the Middle East. None of these things are in NATO’s interests, but there is no mechanism to expel them

Here’s a suggestion: let the US withdraw from NATO, and let NATO then focus on Europe and Africa in terms of keeping out Chinese influence. That will be a more meaningful mission statement for them than combating climate change

Whatever they do, we shouldn’t be part of it. We have our hands full w/ China and the Americas

Hope y’all are up to date with every last detail of the demofraud. This might not happen when team TRUMP gets the legal count he deserves. I estimated 75 million votes for Trump this time around and it’s getting close.

I accurately called Trump’s victory in 2016 with 309 electoral votes that post should still be here on JW. He got 303 of the 306 he won the minus 3 was from a traitorous district Electorate in TX. Everyone knows Trump has this in a landslide now it’s time to prove it. I’ve been donating $25 every week to the legal team please consider it if you’re able.

Sydney Powell doesn’t take cases and submit evidence without proof! She effectively defended Mike Flynn’s case regardless of what Judge Sullivan tries. Lin Wood is in beast mode to and so many others.
This should be settled without SCOTUS ruling. We can’t allow a handful of cheaters to beat 75 million of us!
    Godspeed!

Common Sense, I don’t see this being resolved w/o involving SCOTUS any more. The elections in several blue states have been rigged by corrupt secretaries of state, and no decision will satisfy both parties. If illegal/questionable votes are removed, the Dems will scream bloody murder, if those flash drives w/ Trump votes in Georgia are not counted, the GOP will cry foul! This is an unresolvable mess that’s been mucked up by Dem governors contriving to steal the election

The cleanest solution this time is SCOTUS handing it over to Congress, and letting them elect the president and VP. Going forward, main-in ballots should be banned, and there should be a moratorium on using Dominion systems until they’ve been thoroughly audited. Also, all federal elections should be run by the feds going forward, so that corrupt battleground states don’t get to flip the outcome

Please lets not send our young men into fights that have nothing to do with a threat to Americans. If BIG BUSINESS wants to do business in these back woods countries then let them work it out, not use our military as their private police. If it’s profit that drives the foreign policies of this country we will always be at war with someone.
