The most notorious illustration of the fact that deradicalization programs do not work is the Vienna jihad murderer Kujtim Fejzulai. But there is more:
Gitmo prisoner reveals: Saudi “deradicalization program” is really a jihad training program
11 ex-Gitmo prisoners flee the Saudi “rehabilitation program” and join up with terrorist groups
Jaw-dropper: 25 former Gitmo detainees “return to militancy” despite Saudi rehab program!
Flight 253 jihadist wasn’t cured by Saudi anti-jihad art therapy
Former Guantanamo detainee now top al-Qaeda ideologue — “He was transferred to Saudi Arabia in 2006 where he was placed in a national rehabilitation project.”
Indonesian government admits that its jihadist rehab program is a failure
Malaysia: Muslim cleric active in deradicalization program promotes hatred of non-Muslims
France’s only jihadi “deradicalization” center is closing — it was voluntary, and it was empty
The whole premise of “deradicalization” is that Islam is a religion of peace that jihadis misunderstand, twist, and hijack. Since that is a false premise, and warfare against unbelievers is actually taught in the Qur’an and Sunnah, “deradicalization” focuses on other issues, such as “anger issues” that the jihadi may have, his feelings of “alienation,” and the like.
But since none of that changes what the Qur’an and Sunnah say about warfare against unbelievers, it doesn’t “deradicalize” the jihadi at all. A British psychologist behind a “deradicalization” scheme has admitted that there’s no guarantee that jihadis can ever be “cured.”
“Sadiya Anwar Shaikh, who was arrested for links with ISIS, was de-radicalised twice in the past: NIA charge-sheet,” OpIndia, October 31, 2020 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
In a sensational disclosure, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) said that a 20-year-old Muslim woman from Pune, who wanted to be a suicide bomber, was de-radicalised twice in the last few years by Indian intelligence agencies. However, in spite of de-radicalisation, she returned to join the ranks of Islamic terrorists, reports Hindustan Times. According to a charge sheet filed by NIA, Sadiya Anwar Shaikh, a 20-year-old youth from Pune, was first de-radicalised in 2015 after she had put up radical content on her Facebook account.
Sadiya had come under the radar of intelligence agencies in 2015, who then had de-radicalised her and let her go. Shockingly, Sadiya had revealed to intelligence officials in 2015 that she was inspired by radical Islamic terror sympathiser Zakir Naik.
A few years later, the Muslim woman again created multiple fake accounts on Facebook and other social media platforms to spread such contents. In January 2018, she went to Kashmir and where she was caught again by the Jammu and Kashmir police. The NIA in its charge-sheet said that Sadiya was again de-radicalised and was handed over to her mother as she was a minor….
Sadiya was arrested in July in a conspiracy case linked to the Islamic State (IS) after the second de-radicalisation effort failed. Along with Sadiya, the NIA had nabbed 36-year-old Jahanzaib Sami, a resident of Srinagar, Hina Bashir, Abdullah Basith and Nabeel Siddick Khatri….

One can try to deradicalize islamists as many time as one wants, but as long as they remain Muslim there is an enormous risk of relapse. The general law is that it is easier to learn than to unlearn.

Lion heart, I think you meant “cannot be trusted”.

or maybe Lh actually *did* mean trusted, GI; a muslim can indeed be trusted to “hurt nonmuslims.”

Yes–happens all the time. Deeply foolish on the part of Infidels.
Fred van de Bunt says
“But deradicalization is not confined to ideological rehabilitation only. In addition to the ideological element, deradicalization policies generally experimented with a wide range of other components. These ranged from providing psychological support to vocational training and education, family rehabilitation, physical and sports programmes, art, and a post-release scheme to facilitate reintegration of released prisoners back into society. The latter also includes an additional battery of incentives, such as financial support, health insurance, assisting released individuals (graduates) finding jobs or return to education. Some even go as far as assisting the graduates in getting married.”

So, if I understand well, if one pays for their education, job with a high salary, a villa on the beach and a couple of exquisite cars, 4 holidays a year, membership of the golf course and yachts club and a ravishing partner, it will give the best results, next to the ideological component.

The jihadists should be removed from their families and even sent to live in another country where they will not be in contact with other Muslims.
Keith O says
Yeah, right, as if that will work.
How about sending them somewhere that there is no mosque, no special books, no Halal food and they can’t harm anyone in the civilized world. Lets send them to Antarctica!
gravenimage says
Mortimer, with all respect, your saying that Jihadists should be sent to Infidel nations with few Muslims is madness. This will just spread Jihad to places that don’t have much of a Jihad terror problem now.
I know you have said previousy that Muslims should be allowed to flood into the West so that they can be “deprogrammed”, but really, this is just suicidal. We were safe from Jihad when Islam was mostly kept isolated from the civilized world.

gravenimage,
Agree 100%.
mortimer has an encyclopedic knowledge of islam – way more than I – but he is absolutely wrong on the three points that you have pointed out.
1. Jihadists, after fulfilling all requirements of law enforcement / judicial system should be permanently deported back to only muslim countries.
2. There is no factual evidence-based peer-reviewed studies that can clearly document that mass deprogramming muslims out of islam is successful.
3. muslims need to be completely kept out of the West – period.
gravenimage says
Agree, James.
MykeJohn says
Deradicalization programs for Mohammedans have no part in normative Islam. In Islam what matter most is to kill to get Allah’s approval for 72 virgins which is an incentive enough rather than to become Ghandi. I don’t know if Muslima would get 36 husbands each as a reward for a good work done. You know in lslam the women receive one-halve of what the men get. When taqiyya in the form of red banner is unfurled before our blind leaders they (the leaders) see it as white flag of peace or surrender. Time will tell
mortimer says
The only way to ‘deradicalize’ or ‘deprogram’ Muslims that is effective is to convince them the Koran is of human origin.
Jay Smith PhD of Speakers’ Corner has concluded that Muslims are losing their faith at Speakers’ Corner (London) when they hear the latest research about the 37 different Arabic versions of the Koran … there is supposed to be only one version of the Koran. That is not the case.
gravenimage says
Muslims certainly aren’t losing their faith fast enough to prevent mushrooming Jihad terror all over the West.
James Lincoln says
mortimer,
I’ve heard about Jay Smith PhD of Speakers’ Corner.
A relatively small number of muslims have apparently left islam because of him – a good thing but hardly makes a dent…
Walter Sieruk says
So it needs to be asked again “When will they ever learn ? “For such a “deradicalization program” will not work.Nor will any “deradicalization program”work. The reason this because the devolt Muslim who is totally committed to the practice of all parts of his or her religion including the violent jihad will sooner or later engage in the jihad violence for his religion, The only way which is not included in the”programs is for to loses all faith in Islam which is highly unlikely
In addition ,,a better term than a “deradicalization” would be a “de-mind programming therapy system” or simply a “deprograming system” Still it’s best to be realistic and not to really feel that violent jihadist can be straightened out into being peaceful man or woman.
This is because a Muslim who are jihadist are so thoroughly ingrained infected into Qu ‘ran based theology that is the foundation for jihad ideology that the charges of changing for the better is slim to done.
This shows the terrible harm that non-watered down ,hard core Islam can to. It make man and women literally become dangerous to self and others.
To sum this up, it’s unrealistic to think that any “deradicalization program’ would be effective in strengthening out a violent jihad-minded Muslim into becoming non violent peaceful Muslim .
It might be a good idea to remember the wisdom written by the philosopher Immanuel Kant ,who wrote “Out of the crooked timber of humanity no straight thing can ever be made.”
LIkewise ,the ancient Greek playwright ,Aristophanes ,wrote “Even the wisest of the wise can never make a crab walk straight.’
James Lincoln says
Walter Sieruk,
You are correct.
And the term “de-radicalize” is problematic in and of itself. It assumes that there is a regular “plain-vanilla” islam – as well as a radical version…
somehistory says
The only way to “deradialize”…such a word one never heard a few years ago…a moslim is to do an islamectomy. islam has to be totally and permanently removed. And the “doctor” has to be at least part of the “patient.”
With the help of Jesus and His Father, it is much easier to get through the islamectomy alive and well.
In any case, those charged with defending the innocent need to know a complete islamectomy has to be or there will be no “deradicalization” of these moslim terrorists. And the “authorities” and experts can’t remove the malignancy. The “patient” has to do that.
Andrew says
Unless a muslim leaves the islamic faith 100%, converts to Christianity for instance, there is no way they will be de-radicalized as all they have to do is start reading the hate filled book that started it all off in the first place, so burn every quran, is that a solution, of course not, but if any muslim tells you he is now not a jihadi anymore then be careful, be very careful, because he now knows he has fooled you at least once already.

Aussie Infidel says
It may well be that “feelings of alienation and the like” provide the final tipping point for wannabe jihadis to carry out their murderous intentions. But their motivation stems initially from indoctrination with Islam’s supernatural beliefs which sanctify the hatred, subjugation and killing of infidels as a ‘holy duty’. (Quran 2:191, 4:89, 9:5, 9:29).
As well as continually denigrating non-Muslims, Islam also prescribes cruel and unusual punishments – which appeal to the psychopaths in Muslim communities, who are the ones most likely to become jihadis.
“Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment,” (Quran 5:33). NB: To Muslims, “waging war against Allah’ and “causing corruption” means rejecting Islam.
“O Prophet, urge the believers to battle … [to overcome the unbelievers] because they are a people who do not understand.” (Quran 8:65).
But perhaps the most powerful influence on young Muslim men who are “feeling alienated”, or seeking to redeem themselves, is that Allah guarantees martyrs a place in Paradise (with all those virgins). Muhammad was a ruthless warlord, and knew how to incite young devout, sex-starved Muslim men to fight his enemies.
“Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the cause of Allah , so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur’an. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah ? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment.” (Quran 9:111).
Deradicalization programs to turn people away from Islam will never succeed without effectively countering its fundamental tenets – both religious and political – and also destroying the emotional grip it has on its followers.
