Islamic Republic of Iran: Convert from Islam to Christianity gets 80 lashes for drinking communion wine

Nov 23, 2020 9:00 am By Robert Spencer 18 Comments

Zaman Fadaei could have been executed, as he is a convert from Islam, and the death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law. It’s based on the Qur’an: “They wish you would disbelieve as they disbelieved so you would be alike. So do not take from among them allies until they emigrate for the cause of Allah. But if they turn away, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them and take not from among them any ally or helper.” (Qur’an 4:89)

A hadith depicts Muhammad saying: “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him” (Bukhari 9.84.57). The death penalty for apostasy is part of Islamic law according to all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence.

This is still the position of all the schools of Islamic jurisprudence, both Sunni and Shi’ite. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the most renowned and prominent Muslim cleric in the world, has stated: “The Muslim jurists are unanimous that apostates must be punished, yet they differ as to determining the kind of punishment to be inflicted upon them. The majority of them, including the four main schools of jurisprudence (Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi’i, and Hanbali) as well as the other four schools of jurisprudence (the four Shiite schools of Az-Zaidiyyah, Al-Ithna-‘ashriyyah, Al-Ja’fariyyah, and Az-Zaheriyyah) agree that apostates must be executed.”

Qaradawi also once famously said: “If they had gotten rid of the apostasy punishment, Islam wouldn’t exist today.”

But the Iranian authorities has just imprisoned and lashed Zaman Fadaei, not executed him. At last, moderate Islam!

Note also the criminalization of the practice of Christianity, in punishing him for engaging in a core Christian observance.

“Christian Convert Zaman Fadaei Receives 80 Lashes for Drinking Communion Wine,” Iran Human Rights Monitor, November 17, 2020 (thanks to Elizabeth):

A month after an Iranian Christian convert was lashed for drinking communion wine, another convert, Zaman (Saheb) Fadaei, was lashed 80 times on Sunday for the same reason.

The sentence was carried out on Sunday, November 15, 2020, at Shahid Moghadas Court next to Evin Prison.

Zaman Fadaei has been serving six years in prison recently reduced from ten years followed by two years in internal exile for organizing house churches and promoting ‘Zionist’ Christianity”.

He was sentenced to 80 lashes for drinking communion wine. He has curently [sic] been serving his sentence in Tehran’s Evin Prison….

Zaman Fadaei, along with Yousef Nadarkhani, Youhan Omidi, and two other members of “Church of Iran” were arrested in May 2016 and were tried in June 2017 on charges of “acting against the national security through propagating house churches and promoting Zionist Christianity,” for which the four men were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

An initial appeal in May 2018 upheld the sentences, but a further review took place in May 2020 reduced the sentences against Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani and Zaman Fadaie to six years.

Last month, the clerical regime lashed Iranian Christian convert Mohammad Reza Omidi 80 times for drinking communion wine….

Many Iranian Christians are in prison in Iran for practicing their faith. Heavy bail bonds and exile sentences are additional pressures that the Iranian regime imposes on Christians….

The Iranian regime criminalizes conversion to Christianity, and severely restricts the faith practiced by Armenian and Assyrian Christians.

Why would these muslims be so fearful of the Gospels? One would be inclined to think that maybe they worship some false god.
80 lashes, the cruelty of islam is without end. But it does have purpose.

The only power in the Gospel is its ability to ingrain love in you and to turn you around to good works irrespective of who you were. And that is a no, no region of our fallen nature which others are afraid of.

To receive the holy communion is an ‘essential’ teaching of Christianity. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights upholds that right, as well as the right to change one’s religion or to have no religion.

The Iranian constitution declares modern human rights and then removes them all by appealing to Sharia law.

The Iranian fundamental law or constitution calls for equal rights among races, ethnic groups (article 19). It calls for gender equality (article 20), and protection of the rights of women (article 21); freedom of expression (article 23); freedom of press and communication (article 24) and freedom of association (article 27). Three recognized religious minorities “are free to perform their religious rites and ceremonies.”

However, along with these guarantees the constitution includes what one scholar calls “ominous Catch-22s”, such as “All laws and regulations must conform to the principles of Islam.”

rights of women, of expression, of communication and association, of the press[81] – are followed by modifiers such as “within the limits of the law”, “within the precepts of Islam”, “unless they attack the principles of Islam”, “unless the Law states otherwise”, “as long as it does not interfere with the precepts of Islam.”

Any human rights in Iran may be annulled by appealing to Sharia law.

The Iran-sympathizers in the U.S. will naturally only read the constitution which supposedly upholds these fundamental human rights…and ignore the “patch” of Islamic law-Sharia which has been coded into the “program” and will prevail in reality.

I wonder if they are thinking public whipping is more disincentive than execution? As it lasts a long time comparatively, and there may well be more trauma involved in the spectators (particularly since Iranians are forced out under threat to witness these events, as well as funerals of dictators, etc.).

The Iranian regime can try to wipe out Christianity among the Iranian people, however it’s one of the fastest growing Christian churches in the world right now, the Iranian Underground Christian movement…at least 1 million strong and spreading like wildfire under fierce persecution. These are my brothers and sisters in Christ and I pray for them every day. They are willing to sacrifice their very lives rather than recant and submit to Islam. I pray every disciple of the Lord be so bold, so brave and stand up for what we believe.

I also pray for the Muslims, as Jesus said pray for your enemies. I didn’t make them my enemy, but they made me their enemy. Jesus died for us while we were yet sinners and is willing to forgive and work with anyone who is willing to repent and turn away from sin. The muslims were born into it, and suffer the consequences of that oppressive regime known as Islam. I pray for FREEDOM from this demonic religion. Particularly my heart bleeds for the innocent children who come into the world under Islam, and have their minds polluted from the very start.

Makes a mockery of Quran Chapter 2; Verse 256 = “There is no compulsion in Religion.” Seems like Muhammed,, the Iranians make up dogma as they go along.

It’s so evil, but even more evil are the so called “politically correct” politicians and corporations who want to ban us from criticizing Islam. But I’m not surprised, Satan has a short time and the Bible warns us about times like these. May God protect those Iranian converts.

moslims hate everything that is fine, upright and beautiful.

Just look at his photo. What a fine face he has. Compare his face to that of any moslim on any of the articles or threads. A world of difference Holy Spirit from the True God of the Bible makes in an individual.

satan the devil…and his children…hate this beauty of soul and conscience that comes forth through the eyes, and satan hates the “good works” that a Christian does toward others.

satan is at war with God’s people and he inspires and incites that hatred in his human children so that these are cruel, heartless, demonic in their treatment of those who refuse to bow to their false god and his false prophet..

Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, said it would be like this. His disciples are hated, persecuted and murdered “on account of my (His) Name.’

Praise the Lord! Yes I noticed the same thing. Freedom! From the inside! Whoever the Son sets free is free indeed, no matter what the external circumstances.

You notice also he was charged with “practicing Zionist Christianity.” This is because the Iranians who receive the Holy Spirit and start reading the Bible suddenly see that Jesus is a Jew, the early church were all Jews, and they believe in the second coming, and that Israel will be redeemed.

They are prepared to hide Jews and believe they have a mission to protect the “chosen people” if given the opportunity. Many converts have said that they see now their former hatred against Israel and Jews was something pushed on them, and they reject it, as the Bible does not support it, but the opposite. As Jesus said, “salvation is of the Jews.” It is a miracle how the Lord transforms hate into love!! I love it.

It brings to mind the verse where we are told that “God works in mysterious ways,” or that “His work is a strange work,” or that “His works are mysterious.”
King David wrote, “His works are wonderful as my soul is very well aware.”

And also, Jesus said, “My sheep know me and listen to my voice.” When Jesus calls people, they hear, recognize His voice and no one can take that away from them. Not with prison, nor lashes, nor even death.

Regarding the fact that Jesus and His Apostles were all Jews, the Scripture, in Zephaniah I believe, says, “Ten people out of all the nations will take hold of the skirt of a man who is a Jew, and say, “”I will go with you people for I have heard that God is with you people.”” Two “folds,’ as “one flock with one Shepherd.”
And the Apostle Peter declared that the Christian Congregation would constitute a “new Israel,” It all ties together so very nicely.

Jesus and the disciples at passover would have drunk alcoholic wine, however non alcoholic grape juice might be better next time. Many Iranians are becoming Christians. the Iranian government must be getting scared.

Absolutely true! And I don’t think the Iranian Christians are about to start bowing to Islam. They are ready to be beaten, to die, and to bear witness to the power of Christ. Put it this way, Iranians suffer and die for much less under this Islamic regime on steroids.

The followers of Jesus will gladly suffer as they believe in life after this life ends. It’s a powerful witness to see someone willing to put everything on the line like that. I pray they receive strength, also for their protection. I pray everyone wake up to the reality of what Islam really is, and that our nations stop bowing and scraping to demonic Islam.

    ………………..

Just appalling–and it could be even worse. And it probably *will* get worse for Zaman Fadaei if he is not able to flee Iran.
