The NYPD is adjusting its focus to fit the Left’s narrative, not reality. Remember: It wasn’t “far-right extremists” who rioted all summer in Portland, Seattle, Kenosha, Wisconsin, New York, Atlanta, Washington, DC, and numerous other cities that I have already forgotten. It was Leftists: Antifa and Black Lives Matter, who have also been found to have been among those storming the Capitol that is being used as a Reichstag Fire pretext to shut down dissent from the Leftist agenda. When the NYPD talks about “far-right and extremist hate groups,” it likely really means ordinary citizens who oppose the dominant political philosophy, including those who have already been defamed by the Southern Poverty Law Center as “hate groups.” Lies such as what the NYPD is spreading here are in service of solidifying the hegemony of that philosophy.
“NYPD’s focus on terror shifts to local extremist groups,” by Rocco Parascandola, New York Daily News, January 30, 2021:
The NYPD has spent the past 20 years adapting to the ever-changing landscape of terrorism, focused first on large jihadist groups, then lone wolves who emerge out of nowhere, and now far-right and extremist hate groups.
In late 2019, the nation’s largest police department created a new unit within the Intelligence Bureau called REME, which stands for Racially and Ethnically Motivated Extremism. It was formed a year after a brawl on the Upper East Side between anti-fascists believed to be connected to Antifa and members of the Proud Boys, one of the more prominent far-right groups.
REME works similarly to its’ umbrella unit, with two dozen investigators and analysts applying the same intelligence gathering techniques used to build cases against members of ISIS and al Qaeda.
But there are differences, notably the laws that make it easier to charge someone linked to a designated foreign terrorist organization….
Infidel says
Haven’t they- the NYPD – been defunded enough? How do they have any resources to look at ‘far right extremists’ – one would think they’re swamped simply enforcing the lockdown for people who’re not burning down the place in the name of BLM and Antifa
b.a. freeman says
Infidel, think about it: there aren’t really very many “far right extremists,” so they won’t be spending much money on it. once they identify a non-leftist group, they can send in uniformed officers, because the non-leftists aren’t extremists. of course, they *will* be abused as extremists, but a smart NYPD commissioner would be able to figure out that he won’t need SWAT teams to arrest his victims. of course, there will be the odd arranged raid with CNN tagging along, but those will be minimal, and won’t break the budget.

This is little more than a taxpayer funded witch hunt to take out an enemy of the state that isn’t a real threat.
Oh, also to remove any opposition to the mudslime takeover of New York.

When I read Bratton, the former nypd chief go on about domestic terrorists I was indeed depressed to see how easy it is for these Chiefs to be moved into that direction or ….. leave. Thats what I think is going on here. This nation is being driven into this politically corrected, watered down version of common sense, and dollars and cents reality, until it is no longer sensible, nor even accurate, and without even a veneer of common sense. The writer A Widburg wrote in an article last week, a portion of W B Yeats poem ‘The Second Coming’ describing the Biden presidency.
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Prophetic words by the great W.B. Yeats!
“The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.”
That is the result of constant and relentless demoralizing propaganda by the worst elements in society. The real enemies, both external (ISIS et al) and the internal ones (BLM, Antifa).
The Proud Boys are patriotic people disgusted by the destruction, burning and looting of those degenerates.
And as Kamala Harris said “don’t stop…”
With “leaders” like that, the US doesn’t need external enemies to ruin the nation the internal enemies will do it and the external ones will cheerfully and gleefully will celebrate the destruction of a once proud nation. A beacon to all freedom loving people all over the world.

Response to mgoldberg: The globalist-leftist mob is hysterical. They are demonizing the opposition and indeed, they are declaring that even having an opposition is HARMFUL, therefore, there should be none.
Long live the Party, sole repository of virtue and truth! The Party is infallible … all others are ‘heretics’ … burn them. (sarc/off)
The Southern Poverty Law Center and Bratton want to be the new Holy Inquisition … but they don’t even know what that is because they didn’t study history.

Zackery, they’ve got their version of state media under control, how long will it be before there are as many surveillance cameras as there are in China?
The left are introducing some alternative version of history they dreamed up here in the bureaucracy and the education institutions, I think that’s why they pull down statues, it’s because they don’t actually know any real history.

It’s not too difficult to “demonize” the Proud Boys and Qanon — they give plenty of reasons and opportunity.

mgoldberg – well said. Common sense, good intelligent judgement and decency has indeed departed the world in which we live. I’ve never before considered myself anti-police, but more and more it strikes me that on a personal level police officers stand for little or nothing of value. Like moronic robots, devoid of independent thought, they will mindlessly ‘follow instructions’ just as did Hitler’s Brown Shirts and Gestapo, and Cheka and the KGB in Soviet Russia. Thus even in Western countries during Covid-19 we’ve seen police degenerate into power-tripping horse’s arses, taking pleasure in their new-found authority to push around citizens and hand out fines for utterly unfair and idiotic reasons. And they do this as if mindless robots, enemies ‘of the people’ -who through taxes pay their over-inflated salaries. How my disgust toward police has risen! Thus like mindless imbeciles they switch from one ideologically-driven thinking to another with the ease of summer lightning. An individual has to essentially believe in nothing to do this. To anyone with a brain – which, evidently, most police officers don’t possess – the Marxist Black Lives Matter and Antifa criminals who murdered 30 and caused billions of dollars of damage all over last summer, even, according to one idiot, ISIS, are not as dangerous as pro-lifers and libertarians. This happens to be also the thinking of former CIA director, John Brennan, a glowering, scowling, dumb as a rock fool who once voted for the Communist Party and then while based in the Middle East converted (from what?) to Islam. And then when Obama was president he became CIA Director. Doesn’t that tell you volumes? – not least what a ‘shit-hole’ organization the CIA has become and has been for a very long time! – and much about Obama.

Rob, the cops on the beat don’t determine laws or their enforcement. Bad as things are now, I don’t think you’d actually want a situation where every individual officer determines on their own what to enforce or not.
Rob Porter says
gravenimage – Yes, cops on the beat don’t determine laws, but in the case of Covid-19 penalties I don’t believe that there are specific laws. Increasingly in Canada heavy fines are handed out on a arbitrary basis, like one of handing the pastor a church, who’d not broken any law, a fine of $2,300.00 – and this without any explanation. Further, it increasingly looks as though individual officers are determining on their own what in their flawed judgement deserves punishment. We’ve seen this time and again in Toronto with street preachers.
However, what I was mainly referring to earlier, is the way in which police officers change from representing a set of rules representing a law and order position to one that is radical left and soft on perpetrators of crime like those of the BLM mob.
gravenimage says
Sometimes this is the case, Rob–but even then, police officers must be getting the orders from above, or else they would be told to knock it off, or even be disciplined or fired.
My grandfather was a police superintendant in England during saner days.

The lone wolves are very scary (both sides have them) because it’s very hard to get advance knowledge and, consequently, there is little chance of stopping them.

Rarely, I’m not saying that McVeigh and Nichols were not scary–I’m saying there are few like them. Moreover, they didn’t really have a “side”, because few people share their idiology, such as it was. Would that we could say the same re Jihad.

It’s terrible to discover that the NYPD is no longer keeping its “eye of the ball” .Meaning the threat of the violent and murderous jihad of Muslim terrorism. The reasons why this is sadly so are many, it may be in part, that awful mayor NYC has along with the Muslim stealth jihad infiltration of State and City government
They couldn’t have forgotten’ .about the Muslim terrorists attacks at and on the WTC which occurred on September 11,2001,.and all the mass murders and much destruction to public and private property because of those jihad affronts.
Later it was the NYC Halloween truck driver jihadist who deberlibatry run people in his vicious Islamic terrorist quest of malicious and murderous intentions.
There was also that Times Square jihad van bomb that failed to go off .
There are many other of other jihadist incidents and well all may be sure that other Muslim terrorist are still scheming to inflect more violent and deadly evils in NYC and other American cities.
The NYPD as well as all Americans need to keep aware and vigilant .
As Thomas Jefferson ,so wisely, had had written ” Let the eye of vigilance never be closed.”
Eleanor says
If any of the Capitol rioters were actually pro Trump rightwingers, then unfortunately they have played right into the hands of the pro Left, and given them reason to go after what they call rightwing extremists. On the other hand, the left probably would anyway, nothwithstanding the Capitol incident.

Henry Mansfield says
On the unfortunate occasions when I’m near a TV set to CNN or MSNBC I marvel at the ease with which liberals toss out accusations of right-wing extremism. Instead of being challenged on facts the person sees heads nodding in agreement.
This has been going on for decades and it’s gotten to the point where mere repetition becomes proof, and as it’s been a proven method of shutting down debate and moving society to the political Left it would take hefty settlements in slander/libel cases to begin dis-incentivizing the tactic.
Now after a highly questionable election and a Reichstag moment with Antifa fingerprints all over it we see terms like treason and sedition tossed out with equal ease, and governments announcing some vague group they call ‘right-wing extremist’ as their main target.
Sane moderates and conservatives need to begin with those nearest to them, letting people know that the social contract they benefit greatly from can be rendered null and void at any time. Long before we reach the railcars and concentration camps stage the trains will stop running and the lights will go out.

Go ahead and waste resources I wont complain. Like a dog chasing its tail so goes the establishment. The establishment always mentions that they are fighting jihad terror so I guess they believe islam is right about women and homosexuals and other things. I may have to reconsider some of the tenets of islam, not the terror of course, but other things. Perhaps I have been too harsh on some of those and it looks like that is what the establishment prefers that I do. I’m trying to determine who is number one and who is number two, jihad terror or establishment terror. Jihadists have a larger body count but the establishment is in a better position to terrorize us than jihadists are. If you find yourself in one of these areas and you see something I think it might be prudent not to say anything. Let them descend in to a madhouse as they are already half way there anyway.
