On the issue of the Uyghurs, Frank Gaffney understated the third issue: it’s that in Asia, almost every muslim country is a member of the belt/road initiative, not just Turkey and Qatar. The Gulf countries have it better in that they don’t have outstanding debts to China, but they’re still actively courting the Chinese for technological investment in their countries. However, the rest of them are very much addicted to Chinese loans
Aside from having a common cause w/ China against India, Pakistan is an extended province of China under CPEC, which is now the favorite looting ground for their generals, whom Imran Khan is happy to give a carte blanche. Iran’s biggest illicit customer is China, who recently won the Chabahar project, since Indian companies weren’t willing to risk US sanctions by participating there. For Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, China is both a major customer as well as one of their only routes to the Pacific. China also has Tajikistan so much in their debt that they’ve even occupied some Tajik territory. Essentially, Central Asia’s only exits to the outside world are via China, Caspian/Caucasus or Iran (since Afghanistan remains a security basketcase)
Another thing about the Uyghurs is that as a part of their agreements w/ almost all muslim countries, if any Uyghur seeks refuge in one of those countries, they are deported back to China, who then gets to re-educate and enslave them or do whatever else they do to Uyghurs. As a result, Uyghurs, who’d probably fit in best in Kyrgyzstan or the more spacious Kazakhstan, have to look for refuge in non-muslim countries where they could be a potential security risk. What should be done about them is that the non-muslim world, should in one voice, directly tell muslim countries and entities not to lecture them about ‘islamophobia’ unless and until it calls out Beijing for everything they do in Xinjiang, which is far worse than anything other muslim countries have even been accused of doing by those muslim entities

Frank Gaffney is one of BEST-INFORMED (on the matter of jihadism) of all American political figures. He ‘gets it’.
Gaffney sees that Pres. al-Sisi is telling Egyptian sheikhs to de-emphasize jihad.
Al-Sisi told the sheikhs, ‘We cannot continue to threaten the world.’
