Women are deemed inferior in Islamic law, and a draft law in Egypt reflects just how “unjust, regressive and demeaning” this can be:
An Egyptian woman is a legally incapacitated person who has no right to travel outside the country or manage her own children’s basic affairs without a man’s prior consent, according to a new personal status draft law that recently caused uproar across Egypt.
A woman is undermined, having no right to get her marriage ratified without a male guardian present regardless of her age or social status, according to the draft law.
Let’s see how long it takes for women’s rights groups everywhere to point this story out and scream foul. Warning: don’t hold your breath. After all, Islamic apologists stick to the lie that Islam recognizes women’s rights.
Note:
At the time when the world celebrates the International Women’s day, the Egyptian cabinet, surprisingly involving eight female ministers, recently approved what was described by women’s rights advocates as a rather regressive law that strips women of the rights they had seized over the past decades.
There is a widespread irony: many Muslim women (including Islamic State brides) perpetuate the inferiority of women and accept their own “place” of inferiority; they defend degrading Islamic tenets against women. They defend them with pride and advocate them with scorn against infidels who stand up for the equality of women. More on the status of women in Islam can be seen in the article HERE.
In addition, women are commanded to be fully covered:
(Quran 24:31) And tell the believing women to reduce of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons, their husbands’ sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
If a woman does not cover, she is guilty of bringing about her own “abuse”:
(Quran 33:59) O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves of their outer garments. That is more suitable that they will be known and not be abused.
“‘Unjust, regressive and demeaning’: New draft law deems Egyptian women legally incapacitated,” by Horriya Marzouk, The New Arab, March 8, 2021:
An Egyptian woman is a legally incapacitated person who has no right to travel outside the country or manage her own children’s basic affairs without a man’s prior consent, according to a new personal status draft law that recently caused uproar across Egypt.
At the time when the world celebrates the International Women’s day, the Egyptian cabinet, surprisingly involving eight female ministers, recently approved what was described by women’s rights advocates as a rather regressive law that strips women of the rights they had seized over the past decades.
The 45-page draft law, leaked on February 23 by local independent Youm 7 newspaper, known for being loyal to the government, has been referred to the lower-house of the parliament for approval.
For over a century now, Egyptian women have been subjected to legislative trial and error. In 1915, a committee of high-ranking Islamic scholars attempted to form a personal status law in accordance with the four schools of Islamic thought within ‘fiqh’ (jurisprudence), but failed to achieve a concrete result.
Five years later, the then-Azhar Grand Imam Mohamed Abduh proposed an enlightened law that regulated marriage and divorce among other family-related issues.
It was not until 1929 for an Egyptian personal status law to be enacted based on the four schools, with amendments coming up throughout the years. The current law has not been amended since 2000.
“We practically have no contemporary legislation. We are following an archaic law that has been introduced more than 100 years ago,” lawyer and women’s rights defender Azza Soliman told The New Arab.
The bill in question may appear at first to be pro-women’s rights. But after being analysed by legal experts, it could be interpreted otherwise.
A woman is undermined, having no right to get her marriage ratified without a male guardian present regardless of her age or social status, according to the draft law.
While some Islamic scholars issued a ‘fatwa’ (religious edict) that an adult woman above the age of 21 has the right to get married on her own, many others declined the idea, insisting that there must be a male guardian to approve the marriage.
Not only that, a male guardian has the right to file a lawsuit and has the woman’s marriage legally annulled within one year of its registration or his knowledge of it, either for reason of social inequality or because she got married against his will. The only conditions that prevent the annulment of matrimony are childbirth and pregnancy.
A mother has no authority to decide issues pertaining to the healthcare, education, travel and even the birth registry of her child in the absence the father.
Another article has to do with a divorced woman being unable to travel with her child outside Egypt without the former husband’s approval. Yet if he has custody of the child, he has all the right to travel with him or her without the mother’s consent….

Women here who constantly complain about their “rights” should realize how great they have it. I don’t get why women’s advocacy groups are not calling worldwide attention to this.

Some of us who believe in equal rights for women *do* condemn this barbarism–but that many are silent is just appalling.

Western so-called women’s rights group have always shown a disdain for women not living in the first world. It is a disdain that smacks of racism, as if these other women don’t deserve any attention.

No the real irony is that such women are held up as champions of their “culture” and defended by western “feminists” and social justice warriors.
The women who rebel against this culture of suppression and repression, at great personal cost are ignored and criticised by the people who should be defending them.

Very well stated!

Islamic Stockholm syndrome: Muslim women who grow up as virtual hostages, develop positive feelings toward their captors; they concurrently develop negative feelings toward the very people who want to liberate them from the oppression and misogyn of jihad; finally, the Muslim male captors develop positive feelings toward their hostages in a confusing complicity and conspiracy against the demonized kafir seen as the Muslims’ common enemies. Liberation from Islam is seen as a trick by the women and so they resist all attempts to liberate them.

This reminds me of a seminar I had to attend in my Human Resources Management course in 2019. Professor was a super feminist super progressive woman, so yeah we had to slog through a lot of social justice warrior canard about representation and gender pay gap and what have you. But what pissed me off was that seminar, on Islamo-feminism. Literally no other religion gets the treatment, the religion that deserves progressive brownie points the least gets it the most. Cucked academics acting like Islam is gonna make us all feminist or whatever. That was the same year as the Christchurch shooting (yeah… I live in NZ) so I guess they felt some obligatory virtue signalling was overdue. FFS a prestigious, secular, western university shouldn’t be an Islamic conversion centre. Not even the fucking chancellor realises that, apparently.
That should validate all conspiracy theories about covert Islamic takeover, covert Islamic overlords now, right?
Richard says
What no one knows about is that just a year before the Christchurch mosque attack, carried out by a white supremacist, a Muslim teenage convert, “radicalised” online, planned mass killing in Christchurch ‘for Allah’.
Inspired by the vehicular Jihad attack in Nice, he planned to steal a truck, drive it through a crowd of people and then stab as many as he could. I remember reading at the time that he stole a ute but then could not get into the music venue where the crowd was gathered. He then drove around looking for other victims but eventually fell asleep in the truck and was arrested next morning by the police still asleep in his stolen truck.
This incident has been erased from the public memory.
There were some differences between this planned attack and the mosque shootings.
1. The mosque shootings were successful whereas the vehicular Jihad attack was unsuccessful.
2. The mosque shootings was carried out by a white supremacist, the planned Jihad attack by a Muslim who had ” hostility towards non-Muslims.”
3. The mosque attacker has been imprisoned for life in solitary confinement, for the Muslim Jihadist the court adopted a “rehabilitative approach” to the teen’s sentencing. He did not spend a day in jail. Apparently, Jihadi’s with murderous intent can be “rehabilitated” whereas white supremacists cannot.
4. The whole world condemned the mosque attack, no one remembers the failed Jihad attack,

One of the most ludicrous claims is that the “Prophet” Muhammed–a pedophile, polygamist, wife beater, rapist, and sex slaver–was a “feminist”.
LB says
This should come as no surprise. After all, muslim women are the ones who commit most (if not all) FGM’s to other muslim young girls. The older women are also responsible for “educating” (i.e. indoctrinating) young girls in what’s “proper” (according to islam) and what isn’t. Muslim men tend to stay out of “women’s business” so long as the women properly adhere to islamic teachings. If the women happen to “stray” from it, then the men will step in to “correct” them.
Infidel says
And we were getting lectured by ‘conservatives’ like Ted Cruz on how Gen Sisi showed that a country could be islamic w/o being so retrograde
Problem w/ countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt ain’t their leaders, be it Gen Sisi or MbS: it’s their people, and that can’t be altered
theanimalthatthereforeiam3 says
Well said!
mortimer says
‘Infidel’ is right up to a point. It isn’t the ‘people’ who can’t be altered at all … It’s the ideology of Islam which is ‘perfect, eternal and complete’ that cannot be altered. However, Muslims may learn about the incoherencies within Islam and its incompatibility with modernity and may decide to leave it. At least 25% of Muslim young people are said to be no longer Muslim with more defectors on the way every day.
Only by convincing Muslims that the Koran is of human origin will they find the courage to leave Islam.

I absolutely disagree. And I’ve been to and researched those countries. The problem is absolutely the leaders and the corrupt governments and clerics (propped up by the governments). Were the people to actually have a say, there would be a plurality of religious paths and each person would choose the level of observance that suits them best.
gravenimage says
iconoclast, Egypt is 90% Muslim, and the Copts are a persecuted minority. I don’t see any clamoring in this country for a “plurality of religious paths”.
In Egypt over three-quarters of the Muslim population say that brutal Shari’ah law is the “revealed word of God”. That same number want to see things like amputation for petty theft.
95% say that Shari’ah judges should settle family disputes (most women’s issues come under this designation in Islam).
81% think that women should be *stoned to death* if suspected of adultery, and 86% think that anyone leaving Islam should be murdered. Two thirds think that Egypt does not impose Shari’ah law strictly enough.

This does not actually sound very moderate to me. Al Sisi himself is probably somewhat less bad than this.

Back in the mid-90s, I was staying in a resort in Hurghada, Egypt on the Red Sea awaiting SH-60 Sea Hawk transportation to a U.S. Navy destroyer.
The resort was heavily used by Western Europeans. No hijabs on the waitresses – and alcohol was served. Popular Western music was piped in. At the beach, Western-style bathing suits for both men and women.
Not sure what it’s like now…
gravenimage says
Thanks for that background, James. Many parts of Dar-al-Islam have become more Islamic.
Fred van de Bunt says
I do not see the problem.
The OIC (organization for Islamic Countries) has their declaration of human rights, that strives for human rights according to sharia law.
It is the “human right” for a woman to have a “legal guardian” in Islam.
Western human right warriors that strive for “diversity within equality” or “equality through diversity” just avoid the incompatibility between Islamic sharia law and present day Western law.
This is because western human rights warriors are either ignorant of Islamic reality, or they get too well paid for their ignorant blabber to care about facts of Islamic reality anyway.

That photo, what a disgusting image to have in the 21st century. Virtually everything about islam, this barbaric and primitive ideology, to my mind, is like some kind of throwback to mankind’s far distant, very primitive history. Islam is such a backward load of rubbish and that photo of the Muslim man and his truly bizarre looking female freaks (I guess they are his collection of wives) all stylishly done up in their tents, is a stark image of what Islam is all about, and how out of date its views of human life are. The women look like a bunch of aliens from some other planet. Islam needs to disappear – it does not belong in the 21st century. Of course, it has never brought anything but murder and misery at any time in mankind’s history, but, seriously, its vile crap definitely does not belong in this century..

tim gallagher says
Thanks for the +1, gravenimage. That photo is a pretty striking image. There’s the man allowed to dress like a normal human being does in the modern world and then the women are dressed like grotesque alien creatures in their tents. I keep thinking that islam is this horrendous, primitive and way out of date load of garbage and it needs to go. Islam’s attitudes to all aspects of human life are totally unenlightened and they need to become extinct. And. of course, Muslims want to impose this garbage on everybody. The main thing is to keep this primitive garbage out of all non-Muslim countries.

So true.

1. For many centuries Egypt was an advanced, prosperous, and iconic civilization. But then Islam took over…
2. The fact that women have been discriminated against and seen as inferior throughout history, and still are discriminated against and seen as inferior in many cultures, religions, etc. (heck, being female in any Islamic country is practically a death sentence), is why it makes absolutely no sense for any man to wish he was a woman, let alone actually attempt to become one.

Egypt: New draft law deems women ‘legally incapacitated’
………….
So much for the idea that Egypt under Al Sisi is “moderate”…
But this is indeed ofthodox Islam.
Infidel says
Al Sisi himself may be moderate, but the same is not at all true about his countrymen. Same goes for Mohammed bin Salman: he probably is moderate and looking to create a post oil based economy in his country, but his countrymen are still the islamic savages that they always have been
ronyvo says
There is no such thing ad ‘moderate’ Muslims. Either you are Muslim or not at all. A Muslim is a believer of the Koran. The Koran is the law of Islam. Al Sisi is a politician who is learning from the Western politics, well, one can see how helpful that would be!!!!
One thing is for sure Islam=extreme hate.
Old Guy says
Islamophobia is nothing but an attempt to hide the truth and facts about the inhumanity and brutality of Islam’s treatment of women. Why do other countries want to expose their female populations to this through open borders?
Walter Sieruk says
This photograph of this Muslim husband with his three wives is enough to lead to the important reiteration of the message that polygamy is not sanctioned by God. For example God gave Adam one wife. Furthermore, in the New Testament Jesus taught “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife…” Jesus said “wife.” Not “wives” Mathew 19:5. [K.J.V.] Likewise, in First Timothy 3:2. In instructs “A bishop the must be blameless, the husband on one wife.” Here again it’s “one wife”
Nevertheless, there are some people who will act as apologists for polygamy by say the king David of Israel and then later his son ,who became King Solomon of Israel did practice polygamy. Such people aren’t taking into account both the time and place. For the only reason that God did tolerate this tradition was not because it was right or that He approved of it. It was because this practice of having many wives was such an entrenched custom in the ancient Middle East that God allowed it for the above mentioned Kings of Israel. This does not mean that this custom, of polygamy, was to keep on going in other times and places.
