Turkey’s Erdogan government is antithetical to democratic values. It is hostile to the EU and aims to re-establish the Ottoman Empire, with dreams of conquering the EU.
The EU considers Turkey to be an important “partner,” when Turkey is really its enemy. The global economy has traditionally included trade with states that are enemies of freedom, such as China, Iran, and Turkey. Iran also is subject to EU restrictions. On the one hand, the caution of the EU regarding Turkish trade is promising. Also, the EU and Turkey agreed in late February “on the need to renew the March 18 migration deal, which is aimed at reducing the influx of irregular migrants heading toward Europe.” That deal was made in 2016. On the other hand, Islamic supremacists and Marxists continue to manipulate the discourse for their own purposes, attempting to gain the upper hand with globalist leaders. Then there is the upward trend of Muslim population numbers that will overwhelm Western states via open-door immigration.
“EU should deepen trade with Turkey but ready sanctions, internal report says,” by Robin Emmott, Reuters, March 23, 2021:
BRUSSELS — The European Union should start negotiations on deeper trade ties with Turkey, an EU candidate, but should be ready to impose economic sanctions if Ankara moves against the bloc’s interests, according to an internal report sent to member states.
The report, seen by Reuters and dated March 20, said Turkey had disregarded almost all EU foreign policy decisions in 2020, but said that it remained an important partner and should have a broader customs union with the 27-nation bloc.
“Strengthening our already substantial economic ties is another win-win situation for both sides …. At the heart of this would be the modernisation and expansion of the scope of the current EU-Turkey Customs Union,” said the report by EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell and the European Commission.
A sliding scale of economic sanctions, to be used only as leverage, could include punitive measures on individuals, moving up towards important sectors such as energy and tourism, said the report, prepared for an EU summit on Thursday and Friday.
“Should Turkey not move forward constructively in developing a genuine partnership with the EU, it should be made clear that this would bear political and economic consequences,” it said.
“We should foresee smart, scalable yet reversible restrictive measures…..

erdogan with his suposed eu friendly policy ten years ago tricked many european banks to giving loans and many other companies to invest in turkey and so many countries economies in europe depend even dramatically on turkey moving forward as an economy… the banks… and so these countries now oppose imposing sanctions to turkey… of course this was a grand islamic plan of erdogan and it will cause economies in europe a lot when turkey goes down…. if then again turkish economy is sanctioned… namely germany italy and spain… spain is now finishing the new turkish aircraft carrier… so there is opposing countries whithin europe

we see europe imposing sanctions briefly to russia to belarus for human rights abuses but with turkey where there is ethnic cleansing within the country they are not eager to impose sanctions at all despite illegal researches drilling within foreign exclusive zones violations, turning Hagia Sofia into a mosque and many many other islamic practises, modern and traditional…. european leaders would also maybe not want to follow the french example and have so many people in their country murdered for imposing sanctions… this is what terrorism does… particularly since erdogan publicly called for the most recent terrorist attacks in france everyone must be worried about that too….

Saying that they should deepen trade ties but be ready for sanctions is like a woman deciding that she should get ready to conceive a child from her husband while preparing to divorce him

The EU Governments, with the exception of those of Hungary and Poland, behave as a bunch of cowards when dealing with Turkey, the sworn historic foe of Christian Europe.
Infidel says
Just Poland. Hungary, while being good on immigration, has been allied w/ both Turkey and China. It’s an associate member of the Turkic council, and recently supported Azerbaijan politically against Armenia
