Oh give thanks unto the Floyd, for he is good, for his mercy endures forever. My latest in PJ Media:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Smirnoff) has been getting a lot of heat, as Matt Margolis detailed, for thanking George Floyd for being good enough to die “for justice.” But amid all the scorn and ridicule Pelosi is justly receiving, a key point is being overlooked: While her words may have sounded mawkish, maudlin, and incomparably tone-deaf to outsiders, to true believers in the left’s new secular religion, everything she said was entirely appropriate. In her capacity as high priestess of this religion, Pelosi was performing a hieratic role and giving thanks to the new savior.
The priestess began by giving thanks to the deity for his salvific sacrifice: “Thank you, George Floyd, for sacrificing your life for justice.” Then she recounted a bit of sacred history for the edification of the believers: “For being there to call out to your mom — how heartbreaking was that — to call out for your mom, ‘I can’t breathe.’” She concluded by explaining to the faithful how much they owed to the savior: “Because of you and because of thousands, millions of people around the world who came out for justice, your name will always be synonymous with justice.”
Pelosi is ostensibly a Catholic, and this statement closely follows the pattern of the Catholic Mass, which contains texts giving thanks to the Lord, recounting the institution of the Holy Eucharist, and explaining how Jesus gave his life for the salvation of the world.
In the left’s new religion, racism, or whiteness, is the original sin. This sin manifests itself in all sorts of “systemic” ways, most notably in the alleged police double standard for blacks and whites. George Floyd, in Pelosi’s clouded vision, sacrificed himself just as Jesus did. In Christian thought, Jesus submitted to death in order to destroy it and enable human beings to enjoy eternal life; now George Floyd submitted to racism and police brutality in order to destroy them and enable Americans to enjoy racial justice.
Pelosi’s statement thanking Floyd is thus not only a religious one, but it’s a Christian heresy, a twisting of Christian doctrine for nefarious ends, in this case substituting Floyd for Christ in an effort to sanctify the left’s race-baiting and dangerously irresponsible ratcheting-up of societal tensions by means of hysterical false charges.
There is more. Read the rest here.

Floyd did not sacrifice himself in any way. Given a chance he would have been off like rabbit. Jesus, it is alleged, suffered in silence apart from allegedly saying ‘God why hast though forsaken me’. JC also was not a criminal with a very lengthy rap sheet. If Floyd had not wasted his health with drugs he might have survived.
Rob Porter says
william – Well said. Floyd did not sacrifice himself, he got caught in yet another criminal act, but if you are rotten to the core, irresponsible at least a little ‘mental’, you’ll make of a criminal a hero.
The facts are these: ‘…the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office on Tuesday reveal that a medical examiner, Dr. Baker, who analyzed samples of George Floyd’s blood taken shortly after his death, revealed that Floyd’s blood tested positive for the presence of 4ANPP, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and norfentayl. He described the level of fentanyl found in George Floyd’s bloodstream as a “fatal level under normal circumstances.”
Jim says
In Christianity and Judaism the sacrificial deaths are usually voluntary and of innocent persons. Floyd was hardly innocent and hardly voluntary. So what is the point in doing this conflation of an ordinary criminal with a Messiah. The criminals who were crucified next to Christ were not portrayed in Christian faith as saviors, they were saved by Christ. As far as I know, at least. So why this attempt to distort the Christian message to make the trial the equivalent of Jesus before Pilate? The case really does not seem to have universal significance. Are there churches where Floyd will be conflated with Jesus on the Cross? I surely hope not.
mortimer says
George Floyd sacrificed NOTHING, including every smidgeon of drugs on his person to prevent the cops from finding them.
The massive and sudden ingestion of drugs are what killed him.
He sacrificed his life, rather than go back to jail. That’s hardly a noble sacrifice.
THX 1138 says
A sacrifice is never noble. A “noble sacrifice” is a contradiction in terms. If a person abstains from pursuing a lesser value for a higher value that is not a noble sacrifice but a noble gain or profit. If a man dies to save his precious loved one(s) that is not a sacrifice if losing them would make his life worthless and unbearable, if he were to let his loved ones die, then he would be committing sacrifice.
If the super-natural, other-worldly, mystical claims of Jesus Christ are false then Christ died for nothing, he threw away his precious life for the worthlessness of a meaningless death, that’s sacrifice.
“Sacrifice” does not mean the rejection of the worthless, but of the precious. “Sacrifice” does not mean the rejection of the evil for the sake of the good, but of the good for the sake of the evil. “Sacrifice” is the surrender of that which you value in favor of that which you don’t…. “Sacrifice” is the surrender of a greater value for the sake of a lesser one or of a nonvalue.
Now there is one word—a single word—which can blast the morality of altruism out of existence and which it cannot withstand—the word: “Why?” Why must man live for the sake of others? Why must he be a sacrificial animal? Why is that the good? There is no earthly reason for it—and, ladies and gentlemen, in the whole history of philosophy no earthly reason has ever been given.
It is only mysticism that can permit moralists to get away with it. It was mysticism, the unearthly, the supernatural, the irrational that has always been called upon to justify it—or, to be exact, to escape the necessity of justification. One does not justify the irrational, one just takes it on faith. What most moralists—and few of their victims—realize is that reason and altruism are incompatible.” – Ayn Rand

It’s a call not to live on earth by the rational requirements of rational love and life on earth, it’s a call to abandon life on earth and seek death.

“a lot of damn time wasted on this societal “floater”. let’s spend our time acting and fighting to remove all this socailist shit from America.”
I have no idea what you mean by a “societal floater”. How do you expect to fight socialism, an ideological, political-economic system, who’s moral foundation and justification is the moral code of altruism? Simply with bombs and bullets?
If bombs and bullets could create a free society how come we lost Cuba, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan? The only way to defeat evil ideas is to unmask them, demonstrate why they are evil ideas, and introduce good ideas, and explain to people why they are good ideas. It’s called education and philosophy.
“The philosophy of the schoolroom in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.” – Abraham Lincoln
“The men who are not interested in philosophy need it most urgently: they are most helplessly in its power.
The men who are not interested in philosophy absorb its principles from the cultural atmosphere around them—from schools, colleges, books, magazines, newspapers, movies, television, etc. Who sets the tone of a culture? A small handful of men: the philosophers. Others follow their lead, either by conviction or by default….
Just as a man’s actions are preceded and determined by some form of idea in his mind, so a society’s existential conditions are preceded and determined by the ascendancy of a certain philosophy among those whose job is to deal with ideas. The events of any given period of history are the result of the thinking of the preceding period….
The power that determines the establishment, the changes, the evolution, and the destruction of social systems is philosophy. The role of chance, accident, or tradition, in this context, is the same as their role in the life of an individual: their power stands in inverse ratio to the power of a culture’s (or an individual’s) philosophical equipment, and grows as philosophy collapses. It is, therefore, by reference to philosophy that the character of a social system has to be defined and evaluated….
The present state of the world is not the proof of philosophy’s impotence, but the proof of philosophy’s power. It is philosophy that has brought men to this state—it is only philosophy that can lead them out.” – Ayn Rand
THX 1138 says
“You are wrong, THX. Many of us honor the soldiers who nobly offered their lives for our freedom.”
I don’t demand, expect, or accept the evil of sacrifice from anyone, Mortimer, no honorable, moral, rational person ever should.
“If a man dies fighting for his own freedom, it is not a sacrifice: he is not willing to live as a slave; but it is a sacrifice to the kind of man who’s willing. If a man refuses to sell his convictions, it is not a sacrifice, unless he is the sort of man who has no convictions.
Sacrifice could be proper only for those who have nothing to sacrifice—no values, no standards, no judgment—those whose desires are irrational whims, blindly conceived and lightly surrendered. For a man of moral stature, whose desires are born of rational values, sacrifice is the surrender of the right to the wrong, of the good to the evil.
The creed of sacrifice is a morality for the immoral—a morality that declares its own bankruptcy by confessing that it can’t impart to men any personal stake in virtues or values, and that their souls are sewers of depravity, which they must be taught to sacrifice. By its own confession, it is impotent to teach men to be good and can only subject them to constant punishment….
You have chosen to risk your lives for the defense of this country. I will not insult you by saying that you are dedicated to selfless service — it is not a virtue in my philosophy. In my morality, the defense of one’s country means that a man is personally unwilling to live as the conquered slave of any enemy, foreign or domestic. This is an enormous [selfish] virtue. Some of you may not be consciously aware of it. I want to help you realize it.
The army of a free country has a great responsibility: the right to use force, but not as an instrument of compulsion and brute conquest — as the armies of other countries have done in their histories — only as an instrument of a free nation’s self-defense, which means: the defense of a man’s [selfish] individual rights. The principle of using force only in retaliation against those who initiate its use, is the principle of subordinating might to right. The highest [selfish] integrity and [selfish] sense of honor are required for such a task. No other army in the world has achieved it. You have.
West Point has given America a long line of [selfish] heroes, known and unknown. You, this year’s graduates, have a glorious [selfish] tradition to carry on — which I admire profoundly, not because it is a tradition, but because it is [selfishly] glorious.
Since I came from a country guilty of the worst [selfless, altruistic] tyranny on earth, I am particularly able to appreciate the [selfish] meaning, the [selfish] greatness, and the [selfish] supreme value of that which you are [selfishly] defending. So, in my own name and in the name of many people who think as I do, I want to say, to all the men at West Point, past, present and future: Thank you [for your heroic rational selfishness].” – Ayn Rand 1974

The doctrine of altruism and sacrifice, in any context, be it Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Socialism, Nazism, Communism, Aztec, or Inca, has always been, and always will be, by it’s very nature, nefarious and evil.
Suicidal, murderous, altruism/sacrifice is always evil.
There is no need for sacrifices among rational men who’s goal and purpose is to live on earth in peace and prosperity.
“Now there is one word—a single word—which can blast the morality of altruism out of existence and which it cannot withstand—the word: “Why?” Why must man live for the sake of others? Collectivism does not preach sacrifice as a temporary means to some desirable end. Sacrifice is its end—sacrifice as a way of life. It is man’s independence, success, prosperity, and happiness that collectivists wish to destroy.
Observe the snarling, hysterical hatred with which they greet any suggestion that sacrifice is not necessary, that a non-sacrificial society is possible to men, that it is the only society able to achieve man’s well-being.” – Ayn Rand
“You are probably wondering here: “What about Communism? Isn’t it a logical, scientific, atheistic philosophy, and yet doesn’t it lead straight to totalitarianism?” The short answer to this is: Communism is not an expression of logic or science, but the exact opposite. Despite all its anti-religious posturings, Communism is nothing but a modern derivative of religion: it agrees with the essence of religion on every key issue, then merely gives that essence a new outward veneer or cover-up.
The Communists reject Aristotelian logic and Western science in favor of a “dialectic” process; reality, they claim, is a stream of contradictions which is beyond the power of “bourgeois” reason to understand. They deny the very existence of man’s mind, claiming that human words and actions reflect nothing but the alogical predetermined churnings of blind matter. They do reject God, but they replace him with a secular stand-in, Society or the State, which they treat not as an aggregate of individuals, but as an unperceivable, omnipotent, supernatural organism, a “higher unseen power” transcending and dwarfing all individuals. Man, they say, is a mere social cog or atom, whose duty is to revere this power and to sacrifice every thing in its behalf. Above all, they say, no such cog has the right to think for himself; every man must accept the decrees of Society’s leaders, he must because this is the voice of Society, whether he understands it or not. Fully as much as Tertullian, Communism demands faith from its followers and subjects, “faith” in the literal, religious sense of the term. On every account, the conclusion is the same: Communism is not a new, rational philosophy; it is a tired, slavishly imitative heir of religion.” – Objectivist philosopher Leonard Peikoff

In the 19th century, ordinary white, middle Americans made Jesse James into a folk hero–when he once shot a black man just for looking at him and left a string of bank robberies and grieving people in his wake. Glorifying criminals is as American as apple pie (even if I’m humbly grateful to be an American and thought myself blessed to give a few years in service to this country, albeit as a diplomat rather than as a warrior).
We also have a media that excels in myth-making when it suits the purposes of the poitical interests it represents. Hence, Che Guevara, who enjoyed watching people get shot, who shot himself in the foot and peed himself when he heard of the Bay of Pigs invasion, had become an icon–especially in NYC, which, had Guevara had his way, would’ve been turned into radioactive ash in a minute. Now, our media has turned the likes of Michael Beat-up-some-poor-convenience-store-clerk Brown andGeorge Counterfeit-passer-drug-addict Floyd into paragons of the American spirit and icons of the struggle for rights. It’s also why we never hear our major media talking of Harvey Milk’s predation on teenage runaways in San Fran back in the day, or Obama donor Terry Bean exploiting a wayward teen.
We live in a country badly in need of repentance and renewal.

I just re-watched the bystander video. The optics are horrific. Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin used a “knee to the side of the neck” restraint maneuver which was an option given to the Minneapolis police. The problem was, he should’ve used that technique only long enough to switch to a less constraining technique – and the other officers should have assisted. In any event, it should have been stopped completely when George Floyd stopped moving.
At the beginning of Tucker’s video, it’s clear that Floyd was very agitated – likely due to the combination of amphetamines and fentanyl. One critical piece of information that Tucker emphasized was that Floyd denied that he was on drugs. If Floyd had been honest, the Minneapolis police could have administered Narcan – which they have been carrying for several years now. This would have reversed the effects of the fentanyl. And as you know, fentanyl kills by causing severe respiratory depression. Interestingly, the amphetamines can initially mask this respiratory depression until the amphetamines wear off.
The autopsy revealed a very sick man: cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, Covid positive, high on amphetamines, and a lethal level of fentanyl. Had the police never been called, it is likely that George Floyd would have died from an overdose of fentanyl while sitting in his car.
Bottom line: the reality is, had George Floyd been otherwise healthy – and not on illicit drugs – the “knee to the side of the neck maneuver” would not have been fatal. Alan Dershowitz noted that this technique had been used by Minneapolis police officers a number of times in the past with no fatalities. Due to Floyd’s very compromised medical state, the maneuver likely hastened his death – but it was only one of several causes.
Being a non-attorney, I believe in reality the verdict should have been – at the most – involuntary manslaughter. And I have read nothing objective to suggest that Chauvin’s actions were racially motivated.
Not surprisingly, however…
The “scared and woke” jury convicted Chauvin of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter…

In her sacrilege, which she committed,
she should have just asked him, “How hot is it? Should I be wearing a scarf when I kick that bucket for my sins, for they are many and unforgiven?”
And the devil giggled.

Some of the first Christians were former slaves. Not a coincidence.

This is so true, Roger. So different from Islam, where its “Prophet” and other revered figures enslaved their victims.

I guess Pelosi now thinks George Floyd was an exemplary individual fighting for justice and morality when in reality he was a down and out drug addict who fathered 5 children out of wedlock and is depicted as a loving father. If people such as George Floyd are honored as he has been by the Democratic leadership it is no wonder the the U.S. is in such moral decay.
